TDC down "SLEW DOWN" not working.
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING's topic in AV-8B N/A
Works. thanks guys. 63 -
Hello, Im able to slew no problem but not down? TDC down "action" is mapped to one of my hats. i should be able to slew down but nothing is happening. Ive gone through the manual and some videos. Any help would be great. Thanks. 63

Yurgon, Im not gonna lie. Now you have me thinking. I believe you are correct. MSL is a standard. My understanding is as you create this imaginary line around the world and create an "average". Error is induced because some areas sea level rises higher in some areas then others. So 0 elevation in some places would not be "true" and again induce error? I could be wrong here and Im really glad where this discussion is going. If that MSL was in fact accurate wouldnt aircraft then no longer have to pull their best grids by flying over the target? 63

JDAM precicion Bombing in Bad Weather
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Delareon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks for that follow up Frederf. I never got a clear picture regarding those releases from a host of pilots. I suspect as JDAM keeps evolving and CLOSE AIR SUPPORT this is an early development issue for lack of better words. Its not long ago GBU-39 were doing loops in the sky before deciding its time to go hit their target. Best. 63 -
JDAM precicion Bombing in Bad Weather
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Delareon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
DCS does not have this capability. I dont even understand how pilots do it in real life. When using JDAM in the remarks of the CAS 9 line you can give an aircraft a final attack wedge i.e. Final attach heading betwee 220 and 250. With JDAM there are practices of i.e. Weapon attack heading 235 for example. The aircraft can be on a different axis when releasing the weapon but after speaking with B-1 and F-15E pilots at length I have gotten wildly different answers. AC-130W will pretty much release a GBU39 on its heading but I suspect its because it flies at the speed of sadness. I think when a B1 or Eagle release these weapons at speed and altitude the weapon follows the axis "roughly". I understand what your requesting with regards to the bridge. I think its a sound decision and I would request a Weapon attack heading the bridge is on. Remember the JDAM could just land off the bridge. Laser guided will most likely land short or on its designation and dumb bombs In my opinion fall to pilot proficiency. 63 -
Well said Kang. Its a very well known issue to those that study this for a living. And even the pros make mistakes. On an educational note and not to get off topic. What you are now mentioning is the increased errors pilots, jtacs, planners and ground force commanders have to take into effect. If your dropping on a beach where the elevation is close to 0 youll have a really close hit with JDAM. BUT! The bomb has its own errors right. And! Most of todays aircraft generate a CAT2 or maybe a CAT1 grid. Cat 1 is an error of 0-6 meters. Cat 2 is 6-12 meters if I remember correctly etc. So now the error increases when you add up all these factors. This is all using MSL. BUT! There is error in MSL because as the moon dances around our planet the "sea level" goes up and down. ERROR! Some people use HAE or Height above elipsoid. Cause the sea goes up and down and the planet isnt really round. MOre like chewed up bubble gum HAE attempts to create 1 line with a shared elevation. Problem is if the JTAC doesnt have that system, or the predator, the A-10, the Aussie super hornet. You get the picture. Everyone has to be on the same page. Thus we know we can chuck a bomb in the ballpark and I am really happy to see with the AV-8B I think the GBU-54. Chuck it on GPS coordinates and at the end of its ballistic flight it is further refined to its target via a laser IF one is available. Best of both worlds in one. Let me tell you. It really is long and painful when a B-1 flies over the tgt to get his best grid then reposition to finally attack the target. They dont show you that in hollywood. XOXEN. I dont understand your last post about using the GBU12 and still having to fly over the tgt? 63

Kang, The laser assists the aircraft in pointing at the ground to generate the grid. If your pointing your TGP at the top of a tank or better yet a high rise building from a offset slant angle the location you are looking at is not a grid. The system doesnt understand the elevation of the building or the turret.

WOW! Ive been using the A-10C since 2010 and Im always improving TTPs. Maybe some ideas to stir the pot of yours you could try out. JDAM loft delivery. Depends on the target and terrain in some cases but even on the line if I can get coordinates into the bomb, hit the deck at speed at around 1.5nm (if terrain and cover permits) I pull up and pickle when the jet allows me to and the bomb goes UP, acquires GPS and eventually the coordinates. I feel this gives me very little exposure to threats and is really fantastic if the enemy is being engaged from a different avenue. Again what blew my mind was seeing A-10s loft deliver rockets on a ZSU area thus "suppressing" the target and going straight in for guns on a different target. So what you are achieving here is moving the zsu so he is trying to hide himself buying you time to get some trigger time on a target and then egress. Not done in a while but I had a poor Mig-21 again on the line pop up infront of me while I was in the weeds, he was coming out of a canyon. I used a AGM-65D on the Mig once I got the nose of my aircraft on him. I dont train that but its cool to use it as a tool once in a blue moon. Hope that creates some stimulation there. 63

HI XOXEN, Im curious as to your standoff when you generate your target coordinates? The people on here are not wrong about CEP or circular error of probability and the ERROR paper says it has. My angle on this is the "angle" your grabbing the coordinates from. If your 5nm's away and your crosshairs are right in the middle of a tank the targeting pod does not know that the tank is there. What it does know if everything is properly aligned is the elevation of planet earth. So the laser is actually detecting the ground BEHIND the target. I suspect that is where the bomb is actually falling. In a threat environment I grab the grid from the base or bottom of the target. In this instance, the tracks of the vehicle. IRL at all possible an aircraft would fly right over the target and only then produce the target coordinates to get the best coordinate possible. thats because like the bomb the aircraft induces its own errors. Grab the grid from right over the tgt. The bomb will go there. Movie quote. "60% of the time, it works all the time" 63

I see what your saying before. People here understand the 10 second laser on call. Im not going to beat that to death. The bomb WILL land short on a continuous laser. If it doesnt in game then its a flaw in the game. With what you said, continuous laser from the Aircraft drops short. This is correct. But if it hits its target during a ground based laser designation. Then that shouldnt happen IRL. I think thats what you were looking for? 63

JDAM precicion Bombing in Bad Weather
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to Delareon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Dont forget your elevation data. Whether your using 2,4,6,8 or 10 figure grids to drop GPS/INS guided weapons if you dont input the true elevation of your target the hits will not be accurate and will drop at where the grid meets 0 MSL. 63 -
Sorry about the delay. The weapon is dropped balistically as you know in ccrp. You are dropping in a laser basket. 10 seconds prior to impact the PILOT calls "10 seconds, laser on". The JTAC would then designate the tgt with the laser and reply "lasing, 1688" for example. The reason the laser is not activated sooner is because the weapon could make so many corrections in the air it would loose velocity and land short of the tgt. This tactic works well in BOC or bomb on coordinate especially with a low ceilling of no less than 5 or 6k feet to acquire the laser enegry and not have to pass a talk on to the air craft. Merci 63

Thanks for sharing. really surprised to see some of that data against the armour. Appreciate that. 63 -
Carrier operations assistance.
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING's topic in Chit-Chat
I hear you and agree. Minus some unplanned events, i.e. a strike force is approaching the carrier what I have learned from NATOPS is the Carrier employs "events" 1 through x and then recovers the events one at a time in a fashion where they do not interfere with each other. Thanks for reminding me Wags was apart of the Janes F18 sim. Its comforting but at the same time the learning curve as individuals in a community will be interesting to say the least. 63 -

RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING's topic in Chit-Chat
It is my concern for when I jump on in MP just for a boot but also when we are a few squadrons having a mission together but I dont want to have a flotilla of seven nimitz class carriers you know. In the latest video this week Wags stayed away from any carrier information but If Im correct what I gathered was it was easy to improve the carrier from where it is now. Maybe Ill put together a 3rd party ouija board!!! 63 -
F/A-18C Paint Schemes Wishlist / Requests Thread
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING replied to frixon28's topic in F/A-18C
I would love to have a Canadian paint scheme. I understand why it wont happen and its no big deal. our in house skinner will take care of that! But operations side of things man am I happy to see that the target pod will be able to be set up on the center line! When you get one of the Canadian jets and they are holding 3 bags of gas the pilot calls blind every ten seconds. Its been a personal issue for me and Im glad its being addressed by ED. Sad Cold lake couldnt take care of this before Iraq! Getting stuff in Canada changed on air frames requires an act of God after the debates. Thanks ED 63 -

Thanks all. I got my answers through some of the NATOPS manuals. They are strict on planning and "events" as they call them to understand when all aircraft take off. 12-20 in one event and then the understanding of recovering all those aircraft post mission. Spotting the aircraft was the purpose of my original question. How will ED spot aircraft on board the carrier? Will AI move us to a location in an effort to maximize space or will the MP arena create traffic jams on carrier while people try to spawn on carrier or land on carrier? I see quite the gong show ahead of us. 63 -
Ghostrider made two great highlights. Working in a TOC. And out in the field. To answer your question I am not familiar with the medical 9 line. In fact i dont like the fact its called a 9 line cause the two can get mixed in the fog of wat and it sucks! I have called 4 medivac birds and I just spone english on the radio. Some questions were asked and I gave them the answer. It wasnt a time and place where you can take out your pen and start filling out a cheet sheet. I want to stress that authorizations as you put it are for fools. For example in Afghanistan you HAVE to give a 9 line. Let me tell you when hawg is ovrehead and has been visual frindlies that he and jtac feel comfortable with the sa he is tipping the wing and bringing in 30mm If you all train with the same medical 9 line it meets the intent of streemlining the battle. 63

I really hope the AI will be able to park our planes in effort to save carried deck space if the intent is to rearm and refuel for the next launch. -
LeVince. C'est mon plaisir des vous assister! Please keep in mind this is a guide and a great way to teach beginners to get the basics engrained into your brain. However when you become proficient with this you can become significantly more flexible. However this flexibility comes at the cost of greater risk and also depends on how comfortable the aircraft and pilot you are working with is! you can be a fantastic JTAC but if you get a Aussie F-18 or a dutch F16 the experience will be different. Have fun with that! 63

Curious why the thread moved to chit chat of all places. I am quite confident this has everything to do with how the F18 will conduct business on the carrier safely and proficiently. 63 -

Thanks Vampyre. That helps a lot and I am very curious how online play will generate spots on the carrier vs players going to the carrier to land, refuel and rearm. I forecast a flurry of nightmares. Within my squadron its more a question of planning accordingly. Cheers 63 -
Hi all, On behalf of the 5th EVC I can't say how excited we are to migrate to the F-18C and continue our training and operations. In an effort to prepare for the module we have little to no understanding of the flight deck operations. We do understand Case I.II. and III, and understand large force exercises usually launch and then recover with that process rotating. My question. Is there any detailed information as to how the deck operations happen so we dont loose aircraft over the side or more realistically launch and recover at the same time and then we develop a bottleneck somehow. Is there a ouija board PDF out there? Air boss type stuff? Any assistance and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Best. 63

I understand the CF-188 wont be done but there are great skinners out there. And so what if we dont have a spot light off the left side of the nose. But yeah. If your invading... You need invasion stripes. 63
