  1. Agreed, at least with faster ATI cards. My 9800XT ran faster at 1280x1024 than 1024x768. As for the OP, I would say get ATI. I went from 9800XT to 6800GT OC and though the card is plenty fast, and I love the Digital Vibrance feature, I don't think I will ever get used to the crappy AA; at least crappy compared to my ATI card.
  2. Are you using an Nvidia 6xxx card? If they get too hot (and Lockon can make your card reach it's highest temps), the card throttles and the effect is about a 7-10 second pause/freeze, and then it resumes normally. Most anti-cheat server code will kick you when that happens. A quick test would be to see if it happens if you run with your case open.
  3. I have WInXP installed on two different partitions. My older install got hosed somehow with my Audigy2 and I only get sound in the front speakers with that install when playing LockOn. For the longest, I thought LockOn only supported two speaker sound, but on my good WinXP install I hear directional 3D sound and all 4 speakers are playing.
  4. This place is great! Instead of kicking the dog when I'm pissed, I can always come here for a good fight! Awesome!
  5. Play balance. I don't feel 1.1 has any serious inbalance so far, but I'm still checking it all out for myself. Not that I'd know better as far as how things really work.
  6. I just tried a couple more 1.1 servers. Though I can still see the pingperiod delay, when looking for it, the effect is so minimal that most would not notice it. The fps hit=2 at most. At this point, I am thinking my dual P3 1Ghz box is too small to host 1.1. I am also leaning towards the thought that it will take a seriously FAST machine to both host and play from at the same time.
  7. I think the F-15 is less deadly in this sim as it is in RL. I cannot accept that this plane is so inept as depicted here, but I also do love a challenge. Play balance is an issue, and I'm not convinced play balance has been compromised at this point. Still, would be good to model things as exact as reasonable.
  8. I guess we need to get out more. The dreyou_SERVER on HL does not have this stutter problem. I assume he is running the server in dedicated mode and that this server has quite a bit more horsepower than mine. Granted, I can still see the pingperiod stutter, but the effect is minimal, like only a 1 or 2 fps hit as opposed to the 6fps hit I see from my server. dreyou_SERVER was perfectly playable in all aspects for me. Gonna do some more testing to see if this is a resource issue now.
  9. And I'm just the opposite. I leave CCP flat and use in-game settings for stick curves. Great to have options though!
  10. No need for 'what if's' at this point. You guys have identified the problem, pointedly specified when/where it exists and have made those that can address it aware. Speculating and tossing in new/unobserved variables into the mix does no good.

This thread is about a specific, and identified issue at this point, and through the work and testing of more a than a few (that already have 1.1, mind you), have narrowed down the problem I think, and the fact that the prob has an ACK from above, means we should sit and wait for a bit for resolution. Please do not attempt to hijack this thread at this point. And sorry if I offended you in this thread. This thead caught my attention and I was very impressed with the detail, the effort, and the presentation of the people participating. Let's let this one roll on. Again, sorry, But let the dice roll here man. ANd also, be happy I got beer, otherwise I would be telling you a story or two! :-)
  12. Huh? Please, I've really had enough of the whole SF thingy. And, what do you mean about what happens to the dload version (hypothetical question btw)? What dload version are you talking about? The one I have, or the one that may, or may not, soon become available? Really, let's take GG's advice and think, and then post, positive and constructively on this particular issue, and let's keep it separate from the previous (SF) issue, please. We've done a lot of work to narrow it down and I think we have given the DEVS something to zoom in on. If the water is too deep, go back to the shallow end. This area is for experienced swimmers only! :P
  13. Well, I have to say that I never noticed the stutter until I actually knew what to look for. I would have probably noticed it sooner if I were a big formation flyer, but I spend most of my LockOn time down in the dirt.
  14. Why would SF interfere with online but not offline? Me thinks SF has nothing to do with it. Definitely netcode/pingperiod and probably something running at higher priority than need be is my guess.
  15. Not only normal, but pretty good for any Prescott. That chip is designed to thermal throttle at 70c and you are nowhere near that. I wouldn't be concerned at anything below 60c load temp.
  16. bflagg, That would mean two people are then able to run the game from the single copy that was purchased. SF invalidating a SN does not make the game suddenly stop working on a machine, it only stops the user of that machine from activating again if he changes too much. I would proceed very cautiously concerning buying used SF protected downloaded software. If my mom was selling LockOn download version, I'd buy it, but not from anyone else. :-)
  17. Let's see. Trade. swap, or sell my dload. Hmm, the thought never crossed my mind with my Steam aquired Half Life, though I've only played HL a few times. Granted, I got HL free with a video card purchase. Man, this stuff is weird!

  19. But since SF does not 'phone home', up to 15 different machines can run FC from one single legit copy. Or did I miss something?

  21. Slap me if it's none of my business, but I'm just curious. How did you burn through all of your activations so fast?
  22. So far, and I've tried a few combinations, nothing seems to stop the pingperiod stutter. I have a few more things to test though.
