any one got the new thrustmaster A10. HOTAS
Slammin replied to con3para's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Would you recommend that they instead hold off releasing it until they had the $$$ to disperse enough units to guarantee an even worldwide distribution? Would you do that if it were your company and product? Really, from what I see, half the folks complaining about not being able to get a WH are also saying they are going to wait and see how the reviews come in. Pre-whining..... Hey, anybody seen PapaDoc? Wonder where he went? -
I remember all the griping when the Cougar was first released years ago and was available in EU a few days before USA. Instead of complain, I just ordered it from that company in Belgium. Spoiled Americans! :-)

Hi, James! Glad you chimed in on this train-wreck thread but I doubt it will change the tone from those that simply won't admit that they cannot justify spending $$$ for what they essentially view as a toy. The Cougar wasn't a toy and the WH isn't either, but of course a spousal unit may beg to differ :-) I cannot wait to get mine even though I already have two modified Cougars and a RCS. Flight simming is one of my most enjoyable hobbies and really, compared to my music hobby, a whole lot cheaper overall. I've already heard enough about the WH from folks whose opinion I trust that I'm not sure how much it would have to cost before I would complain about it.

Going from a TM Cougar to Logitch G940
Slammin replied to Tangolima600's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have a U2nxt modded Cougar and Thrustmaster RCS. I bought the g940 and hated it. I sent it back. The Cougar has many more buttons on the stick compared to the g940 and I missed them too much. As for FFB in DCS, I never felt any with the g940. You can mod your Cougar for less than it would cost to purchase the g940 and I think you'll be much happier going that route. The g940 really does not compare IMHO. -
I bought this a couple of days ago. I'm currently out of town and only have my laptop with me. No Cougar, no TIR, nothing. I can't wait to get home and try this on my main rig, so I've only been running the demos but wow! After setting affinity, I get extremely good performance on this laptop @ 1400x900 with high settings. I cannot wait to get this home and installed on my main rig, but that won't be for a few weeks, but I will contribute to this thread then. For now though, I am pleasantly suprised at the look, performance and detail that I can gleem already, and am sure I will get even more pleasant surprises once I actually take the controls.

Of course they are. I think what has been alluded to is the fact that if they say they are on beta 22, and three weeks go by, they probably don't want to have to tend to questions of the whereabouts of beta 23, especially if it only took a week to go from beta 21 to beta 22. I personally would rather not get a blow-by-blow at that level of detail, and know enough right now to have confidence that they are working as hard as possible, especially since I've not heard anything regarding this project being cancelled.

"american style STFU" LOL, I like that one a lot!

I think the 8800 is finally solid proof that LockOn is more GPU bottlenecked than CPU. Really, seems like a lot of negative posts about this card, but I'm getting one ASAP.

Check this out: NEw SIM based on Falcon 4 engine.
Slammin replied to Pilotasso's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I play F4AF probably more than LockOn so I'm very interested in this sim. -
Excellent post and I agree 100%! I have a Dell 2405WS and absolutely love it but to get the best PQ, I have to run everything at 1920x1200. I'm running two 7800GTX's in SLi and they barely keep up.

ruggbutt, You have outdone yourself. The F-15 profile is absolutely fantastic! Great work!

I just got my Lilliput 8.4" touchscreen from FedEx today and have been playing with touchbuff, f4glass and falconguages in server-client mode for the last few hours with an assortment of flight sims. I feel like taking avacation day tomorrow :-) All I can say is WOW! And can't wait for the F-15 profile! Thanks TB crew, you guys really did a great job with touchbuddy!

Go conroe. As was said, nothing on AMD's radar can even touch it. You should do some real research.

OT: FS X Beta Availiable soon @ Fileplanet.
Slammin replied to Sleek's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You've been hanging with the wrong crowd. Really, as much as I love Unix, I always have a box somewhere in the house with some flavor of Unix on it, for gaming and just plain ease of use, I love XP. Been playing with the Vista beta's lately too and I am very impressed with it as well. Windows is bloated? Sure it is! Vista is even more bloated? You bet! But really, after you get a handle on things, you can 'un-bloat' them. Heck, all the latest flavors of Linux are bloated compared to what they were just 2 years ago. And yes, a bloated linux can be just as unstable as a stale XP install. Make it a habit of formatting every now and then until you learn how to keep Windows clean, and you will see much more stability and performance from your system. Windows bashing, especially until you really know how to do it right, only makes you look uninformed :P -

That was hilarious! -
thinking about a cougar hotas, thoughts?
Slammin replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
There is just nothing better than U2NXT'd Cougar IMHO. Love mine and I really cannot think of anything negative to add. I can't speak for build quality of new vs old. My oldest one (Uber modded) has a serial number 2829 and my 'new' one that is U2NxT modded is #6005 and I couldn't tell any difference between the two. If you do not mod them, I can think of quite a few negatives, but even an unmodded Cougar is pretty good for fast jet sims, but that's about it. -
Excellent! Nice work!

Are you running wine as root? That's the only thing I can think of for that. Also, TB does run, it just cannot connect to the server box. In the status box it displays "ERROR: Unable to open connection to host 192.168.0.2:12000" edit: I created a file called predef-patch.dat file and it no longer complains about not finding that file, but it still cannot communicate with the server. I've also noticed that server mode doesn't work under wine with the newer version either. If it helps, what I see when I lauch server mode is a box that pops up named 'Click' and the box says "Can't call method "autoflush" on an undefined value at (eval 15) line 614. In the TB status window I see "ERROR: Unable to open server socket!!" Hope this helps.
-
Yes, 1.0.0 worked/works great! This version does not though. The only thing that sticks out is a log message "unable to open predef-patch.dat file"
-
This latest version of TB no longer runs under Linux :-(

My Windows box is running WinXP SP2 so I configure wine to emulate XP. The two native DLL's you need to move are msvcp60.dll and msvcrt.dll and leave them at the default (native, builtin) setting. One thing that I do notice though is that I have to double-click the buttons, except for the Show FPS (works with single-click) - strange. This may be by design, a Windows thing, or the fact that right now I'm doing all this remotely since I do not currently have a mouse, keyboard or monitor connected to my Linux box. I'm using NX to remotely control the Linux box but will hook the monitor, keyboard and mouse up tonight if I have time.
-
Wow, this is just too cool! Thanks all that have contributed to this most excellent project! And for any that are curious, or have spare hardware around running Linux, I was able to get this running using Wine and it works perfectly! You just need to move two dll's from your Windows box over to your Linux box, and done. Now my mostly idle Linux server and that old 15" monitor I wasn't using have a new purpose :-) Again, many thanks for this software, and hats off for coming up with such an innovative idea!
