You do this everytime; pit YOU against all logic, and always against the odds. Entertaining, though.

I think it's really good. Especially when you enable the advanced FM mode.

Depends on if you are talking dual core or single core Opterons. The dual core have 2M L2 cache (1 meg per core). Some of the dual core X2 Athlons have 2M L2 cache as well (4400X2 and 4800X2). As for baseline Athlon 64's, some have 512M L2 cache and some have 1M L2 cache.

The Nxt2 mod Ian makes is nothing less than genious. Really, if you can't afford a Cougar and the mod, you probably will be better off going CH. And the only reason I say that is because a stock Cougar is no fun with anything other than flight sims. You can forget about using it for something like Mech Warrior or any kind of fast action space sim unless you get the mod. There is nothing better available than a modded Cougar. Period.

Sheeze. If I say I'm gonna leave, I want at least 9 pages of SPAM too! If you guys can guarantee that, I will go! -
You mean the trainer mode switch?

I can't imagine the heat of 4 7800GTX's in there. You would have to break out a chainsaw and cut some big holes in your case!

"The X2 4800 dual-core, in a full multi-threaded environment, will provide the same performance as a single core FX 55/57 in the same environment." Is only one of the most profound statements you make, but then to go on and on, even to speculate what you think you know about overclocking and heat... Really, who do you think is your audience here? Not going to go beating my chest and list all of my qualifications, and for me to even speak of overclocking in this forum is probably out of line on my part. Not like I'm some expert, but I do know a thing or two about the subject. What I will say is that until Intel came out with HyperThreading, every system I've built for years before were all dual cpu systems. I was certain I would never buy another single cpu system, but HT changed that. Now, with dual core, I can say with a lot of certaintly that I will not buy another non-dual core machine :-) So, guess all you want. Talk about heat issues you have no clue on, all you want. By the way, have you ever removed a heat spreader from an AMD X2 3800? I have. Have you ever water cooled a cpu? I have - several. So again, I'm probably wrong to say what I do, but I think saying what you 'think', challenging what I do, is being a little more than just too presumptious.

Actually, my XFX's are GTX's @490/1300. Sorry for the typo. Obviously, we are no longer GPU limited and I suspect the biggest difference between what you get vs what I get is cpu. Set your ram to 2.5-3-2-6 and pump your fsb up to 250 (I consider that a modest oc) and see for yourself.

Lotta speculation and guessing going on here. Well, for comparison, if there is any at all, my old rig = P4 3.0E@ 4.1 water cooled 1gb G.Skill LE Nec 22" monitor BFG 6800GT OC LockON avg fps down low @1280x1024 = 27fps New system: 3800X2@2800 water cooled 1gb G.Skill LE Dell 2405 LCD 2x XFX7800GT LockOn avg fps down low @1900x1200 = 48fps And no, an FX-57 will not keep up with a dual core cpu when dealing with multi threaded apps. That's just crazy! And yes, Falcon4, Doom3 and a few other titles will take advantage of duallies, as well as many current applications. And the price of the FX-57 vs this 3800X2 is quite huge, and just about all the X2's are getting 600+ overclocks on air lately, so to me it was a no brainer. I have not had to fiddle with any of my current games to get them to work. What I am seeing though is that AMD is not as plug-n-play as Intel is. You have to load cpu drivers as well as chipset and weird stuff like that with AMD. Nothing hard, but just different.
-
Just because something isn't written to take advantage of dual core/multi cpu's does not automatically mean it won't run on it. I just built my new system based on a 3800X2 and LockOn runs great on it! I see absolutely zero reason to buy a single core cpu over a dual core right now.

Anyone knows a place online to buy Hall effect sensors?

Ernie probably won't reveal his source though :P -
New nVidia Forceware drivers 77.13
Slammin replied to Dutch60's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
This driver must have been created just for us because it really does take care of the dust/smoke stutter! -
Sure! Two weeks!

What a silly, and pointless thread.

LOL! Man, that was a crazy movie! Wasn't there two of them? Btw, your pilot was too slow!

I agree. Folks act like they are speaking to 'some Entity' called ED, when in reality, they are talking to hard working people whom, just like the rest of us, prefer to be talked to with some level of respect, I'm sure. Hat's off to ED and the beta testers! I'm having great fun with the addon and though I look forward to any future patch, I will not be going back to 1.02.

If you've adjusted your Precache with Loman to a larger value to reduce video stutter, not only do missions/maps take longer to load, the game takes longer to exit, and you still get swap freeing up for quite awhile after exiting the game.

Noob question..what is Suncom?

Noob question..what is Suncom?
Slammin replied to Omega Oska's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I have a Suncom Talon here but I haven't used it for years. Never really cared for it though so it's in great shape. I doubt you'd need any drivers for it and it is programmed via the keyboard, so it would probably work as long as you have a game port and a non-USB keyboard. Maybe I'll ebay this dinosaur. -
No doubt man. This sim just 'click's with me for some reason. Really strange too because though I have been through the entire Flanker series, somewhat, and as much as I'd tried, I never could really 'get into' Flanker. I still cannot exactly put my finger on why LockOn hooked me, but I do think the variety of planes might be it, and probably the A-10 foremost. Still strange though how this sim just makes you anticipate what is in the future for it.

I thought the question was silly too. Too bad anyone would think a question like this need be asked. I mean, it's not like this is Donkey Kong 2 circa 2005. Or maybe someone thinks ED took all the cash they got from the online sales and retired?

My card IS an Audigy2 ZS. I use the Cdrom drivers and then use CL's live update to bring everything up to date and I get full sound. On my partition that I do not get rear speaker sound, I used some bootleg drivers and I do not get 4 speaker sound in LockOn no matter what I do, and CL's live update stuff don't work on it either. You probably should just reinstall windows at this point if you want your sound to work properly and unless you are a musician and use your box to create music, just stick with CL's stuff and forego the beta drivers out there.

Stuttering 1.1 problems What is going on at ED??
Slammin replied to SilentEagle's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Set it to a fixed value. When you let windows manage it, you get a performance hit. -

Good info! I wonder if your pauses are related to swap file access?
