Hey guys, Having no operational experience in the military, I'm always intrigued about this; What are the reason for choosing a specific armament over another for a mission? Cost is obviously a factor. Risk? What kind of Risk? What makes a mission briefer choose a certain type of weapon over another for a specific mission? Why are there pilots flying the F18 with MK82s instead of Mavericks? (example) Are there flights where every plane has different weapons to be ready for "anything" ? Who chooses those armament? Do pilots have something to say about it? Is there a sheet with risk asssement used as a guide for weapon deployment? In time of war, is it possible a carrier would run out of ordnance (a type of)?

Would you care to share an example setup .miz? I'm very interested to see how you set all this up.
-
The sad part of this is; i was very excited to finally get a NATO plane that performs SEAD duty. If the current accuracy rating of the 122 is good indication, that's not a very effective SEAD platform :( So we'll have to wait for the F18.... sigh

Ok that is interesting (i didn't know). An interesting way for Razbam to do this would be to shut off the SAM radar then (which is not the case at the moment). In any case, i understand why they were not renewed and rather discarded. At the moment, i'm trying to do missions with SEAD in mind (and the Harrier, of course) and its pretty much useless.

Ok, interesting. I figured something like that would happen. Strange that DCS didn't plan for this (yet)... I'll try to script-fake this with a hidden AWACs plane linked to the life of an unarmed SH-60.

I should mention that i've tested this with AIs (various skill levels) and as a player in a Multiplayer server (client).

Greets everyone, Question regarding the effectiveness/Accuracy of the Sidearm. I'm trying various simple scenarios with a few Anti-Air vehicles. Right now, i'm using the Tunguska SA-19 as targets. The issue is; the accuracy rating of a AGM-122 against those, with a straight line of sight, is of 1 out of 4 missiles. They -very often- over-shoot the target by about 50 meters. I've tried shooting from 4,000 to 8,000 feet and it seems to do about nothing. Thoughts?

I also learned that the TARAWA-CLASS was decommissioned late 2000s. Replaced by the AMERICA-CLASS. I presume that its what the British use as well nowadays. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America-class_amphibious_assault_ship

Interesting. I'll add to the wishlist forum. As a more academic inquiry, what was available in real life?

Hey guys, I'm having a lot of fun planning Navy-oriented missions for the Harrier in a "1980s" scenario. Lots of stuff to do and many good options, including Caucassus. But i'm a bit bugged out about AWACS options. Are there any options of this that can operate off a TARAWA-Class Navy Carrier? Helicopter, or plane? Also, do we have something for Refuel that can takeoff from the TARAWA-Class?
-
Great content! Again! Thank you!
-
I dare ask; Starway, will you tinker with 2.5 and its super tree tech for a Starway Vietnam Redux? Cheers,
-
Confirmed on 2.5 Caucassus, Nevada and Normandy Experienced in Aerobatics multiplayer servers and private multiplayer servers. Repro steps: New Harrier Add "Empty Fuel tanks" on tarmac Take off Met with KC-130 for refuel. Connect and fill up. External Empty Tanks never fill. They remain empty. Not tested in Single. Not tested with other Tankers Not tested with Full External Tanks that are emptied by normal means (consuming fuel).

Man you are thinking about this wayyy too much.

Oh good to see there's a large landmass in the northern section. That's a lot more room for Ops that are not full urban. Thanks for the update Wags!
-
OK that makes it more visible. Strange however that, essentially there's been lots of conflicts all around this area. But not that much in that area.
-
Ok, Abu Dhabi has been confirmed at the center of the map then!? Interesting. That makes it look about like this then...

Although a few months old now, can you guys provide clarification about where this information comes from? Also, Iran is about 50 times bigger than Kuwait... Perhaps you meant Iran be a different map? See here

Hey guys, Any chance this is no longer working? it seems i can't make this happen on my system since i reinstalled the whole thing (fresh hd, no backup).
-
Thank you for the reply.
-
Agreed. Which also explains why on loaded multiplayer servers we don't get that dive in FPS (not as much anyways). I've noticed that pretty much all the planes on the tarmac of the mission(s) are active and not static objects. That would probably help as well.

Hey Sabre, Thanks for your reply! I am very confident with my computer hardware and have had no issues as of yet. DCS being the most demanding game i've ever run on my system. That being said, i did a test concerning Pixel Density and my results counter your suggestion. Density is a factor yes, but not that much for a 1080. I made a video here, using Fraps' FPS display to monitor. Shadowplay reflected the same data while i was recording. Video example uploaded here: ${1} The biggest different between PD 2.0 and 1.0 is the fact that i can see my mouse cursor, which, granted, helps a lot to start the mission. Unfortunately, the FPS is the same in both tests. My guess goes back to AI; too much load, too many planes and activities happening at the same time.

Just purchased both BFM and ACM campaigns. I'm here for the same purpose. Mission 2 (dogfight with F5s), i can't even turn on the jet, the FPS is so low i don't even see my cursor and can't click anything. I haven't found a way around this. First guess; there is so much stuff going on with AIs that it's draining a lot of power out of the engine. Would there be a way to remove all unnecessary traffic by any chance?

Greets, I've been using the very easy and efficient method of Axis Tuning for Racing Pedals (instead of Rudder pedals) for a few years now. Since the last update to 2.0, i can no longer setup the race pedals accordingly anymore. Anyone using this configuration can help me understand what's happening? The setup i'm used to running for DCS is as followed: Map both Gas and Clutch pedals to the Rudder Axis (RX and RZ). Set RX to Y=50% + Invert Set RZ to Y=50% Both pedals now share the same Yaw movement, but split the load. The invert makes one pedal start from the middle of the input instead of the bottom. This has worked great for a long time. Now however, whatever i do, i cannot revert the fonction and pedals always start with their Input to the maximum. So in essense, i always have to press both pedals fully to balance them out, else they go only one way. Furthermore, as soon as i press one pedal even by 1%, it fully engages even if my foot is off, until i press again or another one. Help?

My G25/27 Racing Pedals as Rudder Input Issues with DCS.

Writing here (and bumping this post at the same time). Up until the updates to 2.0 this trick worked perfectly. However, right now, i cannot use this setup anymore. Whatever i do, Rudders always max out. The best i can do is to fully press one pedal to average out the rudders. Anyone has trouble with this trick right now?
