  1. Sea Harrier FA.3, Radar U/S... just need to get to grips with the required skin edits and I'll be happy with the FRS.1 and GR.7/9 as well. edit: ...and to replace the statics with an actual flight, unless I'm mistaken there's no other way to get the mods to show on parked birds?
  2. For what its worth the F-8 was considered, something based on the 2x seat TF-8. As already stated however, it wouldn't have held a candle to the F-4. All academic in any case as the F-8 was too long for the lifts on the UK's carriers, F-4 only worked because the nose could be folded. For Eagle, the version of events I''ve heard was that it was going to cost about £30m to "Phantomize" Ark Royal, but only around 35m for Eagle owing to her better material condition. Logic was that they did Ark first as it was thought that, in the event the bean counters got twitchy, it would be easier to justify the relatively small sum on Eagle later than it would be to argue for the £30m for Ark... as things panned out it wasn't all that easy to argue for the £5m afterall.
  3. Pretty sure an American F-4 landed on, needed to be craned off afterwards though.
  4. The marketing spin claimed so, "easily" yeah not so sure about that. You certainly could convert them to CTOL if you REALLY wanted to, but it wouldn't be particularly easy or cheap. What they're faffing about with just now with "Project Ark Royal" is a complete farce. No doubt they'll install an EMAL's system and arresting gear with just enough capacity to launch/recover current mid sized UAV's then after they've done it realise that the next generation of UCAV's are just as large as current manned platforms. So they either end up with yet another fudge that can't really do what they'd like or they go crawling back tot he treasury for funds to refit them again. Imagine if they had just been built as CATOBAR to begin with... I'd say hind sight is 20:20 but in this case it was pretty obvious from the beginning. If there is ever a way to make something take twice as long long, cost X times more than originally forecast AND deliver a mere half of what was originally promised then the UK MoD is guaranteed to find it.
  5. Don't suppose anyone knows if, or better yet where, the attached skin might be available? Stumbled across a couple of screenshots a few weeks back but have never been able to locate the skin itself or even a reference to who made it. Appears to represent 801 NAS in the early Buccaneer days.
  6. Surprising it hasn't been there the whole time seeing as AEW is Helo based on the Kuznetsov.
  7. I'm all for a CTOL CVF/QE class, however a (real) Typhoon is not capable of surviving an arrested carrier landing. It has a hook but this is for runway arrested recovery only, nowhere near as violent. There were plans drawn up for STOBAR and CATOBAR carrier based variant however the modifications were extensive, even then it was going to need the flight control logic re-written specifically to "hold the pilots hands" and come in particularly gently by naval standards. The idea was briefly revived when we tried to sell Typhoon to India, however after the Indian Air Force selected the Rafale B/C it was pretty obvious the Navy would eventually order the M... why take on the risk and expense of developing a "Sea-Typhoon" when Rafale M already exists? Had the UK decided to build a CTOL CVF then I suspect we would simply have ordered the F-35C, the Rafale M was politically impossible given it is the Typhoons direct competitor and the F/A-18C was too old. Maybe 18E/F's would have been considered but I doubt it.
  8. Yeah, not knocking it at all, just wanted to highlight that somethings not quite right.
  9. Using the updated EDM myself, Su-33 skinned to look like a J-15 and no weapons, handful of aircraft/objects on deck. Getting the following results, only difference between the two missions is the carrier itself and location of the Ka27 on deck: Type 002 = 9-45FPS constantly fluctuating: Kuznetsov = 140 FPS steady: Miz files attached, Alt = Kuznetsov version. ChineseCarQual - Alt.miz ChineseCarQual.miz
  10. Wanted to keep it simple so in my case the "J-15" was just a re-skinned Su-33, also had about 3-4 more as deck statics and a few deck crew/pieces of equipment scattered around.
  11. Really nice looking model but I'm having some FPS issues with the Type 002. Made a simple mission on the Marianas map and it fluctuates wildly from around 45 down to 8 FPS, swapped out the 002 for the ED Kuznetsov and I'm now getting 140 FPS with no other changes. Running on a Ryzen7 7800X3D, RTX4090 with 64GB of DDR5- don't think its my rig.
  12. Very interesting, been trying to find the S-2 since I first noticed it in Bungo's HMAS Melbourne in the downloads library, would be happy to have it even as a deck static had no idea it was actually functional. For the Gannet I only became aware of this mods existence last week, would make for great eye candy on both the Melbourne and Hermes.
  13. Hi Hawkeye, sorry to necro the thread, just installed the Gannet (V1.2) but I'm having a similar issue to that described by navyBtown above. Installed at : \Users\Saved Games\DCS\Mods, but can't launch unless I remove the Gannet from the mod folder. Would be a nice to have as as a deck static on the Melbourne and Hermes.
  14. So I busted the left main gear on a cat shot... this isn't operator error, it's definitely too fragile: I've also managed to break it taxiing on deck at walking pace, its always the left leg:
  15. Think there's something wrong to be honest.... I finally made it down in one piece then while taxing on deck I busted it again by crossing the wires at walking pace: null
