Sounds like Windows is powering off your USB devices based on a power setting in the OS. Take a look at this article: https://www.howtogeek.com/296918/how-to-stop-windows-from-powering-off-your-usb-devices/

Are you creating the folders for each aircraft in the Saved Games/DCS/Kneeboards folder?

Command and Option Tooltips For F-16 Controls
mkel2010 replied to mkel2010's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I will give that a try (but it shouldn't take repetition of a command 50 TIMES to do this!) Is it possible to create a script that can be called in a single line instead of having to input this command 50 times? -
Command and Option Tooltips For F-16 Controls
mkel2010 replied to mkel2010's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
For starters, the Comm 1 and Comm 2 knobs on the left console - to off. I've read through other posts that say you just need to repeat the Clickable Cockpit commands multiple times and I've tried that. I get zero movement when trying it this way. Whereas the Clickable Cockpit option has a field for the cockpit ID, the Command and a value, the X:SetCommand only has fields for the command and value. The command from Clickable cockpit alone (without the cockpit ID) doesn't work for turning knobs, at least for me. It stands to reason that if you can set switch positions through ME, you should be able to also set cockpit knobs. -
Export Cougar MFD's/gauges to a 2nd/3rd monitor like Falcon BMS?
mkel2010 replied to Cali's topic in Thrustmaster
Here's two ways to export the video: IMO, using the first method is easier as you don't need to modify lua files - Helios does it for you. -
Command and Option Tooltips For F-16 Controls
mkel2010 replied to mkel2010's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I think what you're referring to is creating an Autoexec file to show the Command and Option Tooltips. I've already done that. I can see the commands for Clickable Cockpit items for switches, but they don't work for knobs that need to be turned. For that, there needs to be a numeric command that "should" populate in the tooltips for the far left column of the Controls page (the descriptive name of each control.) The information doesn't show for me. -
Command and Option Tooltips For F-16 Controls

@Lord Vader Would you by chance be able to answer my question, posted above? -
This video might help: Make sure to check out his other tutorials as well.

For some reason, Gmail sends the forum post notification emails directly to spam - even though I have the return address in my contacts list. This is the message that I get from Gmail about each message: "The sender hasn't authenticated this message so Gmail can't verify that it actually came from them" Gmail suggests the following to avoid the issue: Best practices for email authentication We recommend you always set up these email authentication methods for your domain: SPF lets servers verify that messages appearing to come from a particular domain are sent from servers authorized by the domain owner. DKIM adds a digital signature to every message. This lets receiving servers verify that messages aren't forged, and weren't changed during transit. DMARC enforces SPF and DKIM authentication, and lets admins get reports about message authentication and delivery.

A strange selector on TM F-16 TQS mission pack.
mkel2010 replied to Semtexx's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
The Mode(M) button's keyboard bind is RShift - 7 (confirm this for your setup.) You'll need to bind all four positions of the switch to that keyboard bind but I'm not sure if it will then work as intended in the game as it relates to the position of the switch. -
Does anyone know if the Commands part of the Command and Option Tooltips feature is supposed to work for the F-16? According to the DCS user manual, I should see the associated command (for using X:SetCommand in Mission Editor triggers) by hovering over the command description in the Controls section. When I do this, all I get is a repeat of the named description but no associated command number; I can see the Clickable Cockpit commands when hovering over the Keyboard bind for an command so I'm pretty sure I have everything configured correctly.

I've been trying to figure out a way to pre-set F-16 cockpit knobs through the Mission Editor. The clickable cockpit command works well for switches, not so much for knobs that need to turn. I've researched using setCommand but cannot see the required commands for the knobs in the Controls settings. According to what I've read in the DCS manual, hovering over the name in the far left column of the Controls page should provide the command numbers for setCommand, but all I get is a name. Specifically, I'm trying to turn off the Comm 1 and Comm 2 power knobs at start up. Edit to add: I've set the Options and Commands tooltips to true.

I don't know if the plugin you're using is from ED or a user called Tobi. I found that Tobi's EDM plugin would not work with anything above Blender 2.X. Downloaded an earlier version of Blender and it worked fine. You might try that.

Years ago this may have been the case, but not any more, particularly if you're not running a full security suite and are using just an anti-virus. This is one of the many articles out there that debunk the old premise that anti-virus causes latency on gaming machines: https://www.kaspersky.com/blog/tests-gamers-antiviruses/47576/

I think it really depends on the horsepower of the computer and the AV itself. Bitdefender, running in the background for me, takes virtually no CPU cycles and uses under 1.5 GB of RAM. I get no changes in the resource usage by Bitdefender when starting DCS (monitoring with Process Explorer.) There is little point in running an AV if you're excluding large chunks of data on a system.
-
Another AV option (better than either McAfee or Windows Defender, IMO) is Bitdefender. I get ZERO false positives with DCS files.

For some reason it didn't work for me the first few times, but does now. Thank you. Do the created kneeboards get pins assigned to them based on the groups in game?
-
@AlaskanGrizzly After watching the video on your website about changing and modifying groups, I find that there is no option to deselect individual files like you showed in the video (No checkbox next to each page.) Is there a different method to use for this process?

Try excluding your DCS World and Saved Games folders from your Anti-Virus. Once you get them excluded, I'd suggest running a full repair before you try DCS again.

Marianas Universal Proving Grounds
mkel2010 replied to cfrag's topic in User Created Missions General
@cfrag: I get the idea behind the ATC traffic recordings in the mission. Is there any way to move them to a frequency other than the Anderson AFB tower frequency? On the Cold Start mission I could not get a response from the tower for anything (with the exception of after landing I did get the taxi to parking blurb.) It seems like the recording playback has stopped the game's ATC responses on that frequency. -
ATC Not Responding to Voice With Easy Comms Off
mkel2010 replied to mkel2010's topic in General Bugs
I've got the issue figured out. I'm using the JanJan plugin for VA and discovered that the comms menu needs to be open for the game to respond to the ATC voice commands. -
ATC Not Responding to Voice With Easy Comms Off

@Lord Vader Did you read my last post? I AM NOT USING VAICOM!!!! This is not a VAICOM issue; VAICOM is not installed in my system!!! -
ATC Not Responding to Voice With Easy Comms Off
mkel2010 replied to mkel2010's topic in General Bugs
No, I'm not using VAICOM, just Voice Attack by itself. -
I have Easy Comms turned off. Whenever I use voice commands to contact ATC, i.e., to request startup, taxi and take off, I get the repeats of my command by the game but no response to the request from ATC. I end up needing to use the F-Key commands on the Comms menu and the response from ATC is almost immediate. I have the radios tuned to the correct frequency. Any way around this issue or is there something else I need to be doing? Another issue I've noticed is that after ATC issues the take-off clearance and I start to taxi onto the runway, ATC tells me they are unable to clear the take-off, followed shortly by a repeat of the take-off clearance. Any ideas on that?

Installing the Latest Update From The Launcher Causes Windows to Reboot
mkel2010 replied to mkel2010's topic in General Bugs
So I've been having a back and forth email conversation with ED regarding my bug report. The last two messages I received are pasted below. Bottom line: this is the first time a DCS update has required a reboot and the programmers are aware of the issue and are looking for a fix. "Programmers are already aware of the problem and may be able to find a way to prevent the game from restarting the system without user permission in future updates. I once again apologize on behalf of the ED management for what happened. Sincerely yours Alexander Maximov" AND "Mark, this is the first update that requires a system reboot. I sincerely hope that such updates will not become the norm for DCS. Good luck! Sincerely yours Alexander Maximov"
