A long wait, a long time downloading but was it worth it ???
ATAG_Bliss replied to Mizzy's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Gryphon.. are your speeds better now? I just switched the server over to greg's torrent about 10 minutes ago. It's on a 10gig connection. -

Need 2.0 Help with Terrain and Modules!
ATAG_Bliss replied to Mad Dog 7.62's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Hey Mad Dog, If you use greg's torrent you should be able to download those files within a few hours. See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=153824 As far as the modules, I would assume once you login to the game under the account you bought them, you could then download/activate them. But I don't know how that works having 2 accounts though. -

I ran into something similar. Log into the eagle dynamics store and click on the buy button for Nevada. It then should show a link on the same page that says something like "show registration key" or similar. But hitting the buy button made it show up, at least for me. Edit: If I remember right, it also asks if you want to download it from there to (after hitting the buy button). -
No. The only reason I brought up the A10 Beta (see here: http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_460a.html) is because during that time the devs announced they were working on dedicated server files. That was close to 5 years ago, and we still don't have them. :(
-
Richard - Thanks! That's what I feared, but I wanted to make sure before any effort was put forth in making it happen. I sure hope they give us some way of doing this with the next update / EDGE. Having a dedicated server is one of the most quintessential things of flight simming! Bliss

Hey Folks, I initially bought the A10 Beta after reading the developers state they were working on dedicated server files. Of course, I've bought about every module there is since then :P My question is, can you run a DCS MP server with a dedicated server (IE - no video card) machine yet? Does anyone have any information on this? I've scoured over the forums and I've seen some talk about this, but not really a definitive answer. Essentially, we have a dual hex core machine with a 10 gigabyte per second upload/download connection connected to one of the main fiber trunk lines of the internet itself, up in Chicago. We currently use it to host IL2COD, which even when full, leaves 99% of the machine left doing nothing. Obviously, there will be no adding a graphics card to this machine. So there in lies the question. Can that machine run a dedicated server for DCS yet? If not, any news on when it can? The reason I started this thread talking about the A10 Beta was because that was like 5 years ago. So I would hope there would be solution by now. Sorry for the thread if this is easily solved and I just couldn't find the solution on my own. Thanks in advance for any help in answering my questions :book: Can't wait for EDGE!

DCS WWII: 1944 FAQ Discussion
ATAG_Bliss replied to LostOblivion's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I can understand both sides of argument here, but at the end of the day, without someone else stepping in and taking the reigns, this project would have been lost. Personally, I've bought every single DCS module that I know of just in the rare chance that someday the WWII front might get some loving. I've hardly played any of it tbh. But after the few hours I have flown in a P51 and an A10, just the fact that we get to have all that cockpit goodness, real procedures for everything, basically just flat out 1000% immersion for the 1st time in a WWII prop sim, is a dream come true. So I pledged a bunch. I gave away a set of pedals to encourage others to do the same. If this would have been cancelled, I probably would have put all the gear in the closet for a while. So while my heart about stopped when I heard RRG was gone, the fact that someone else took charge and picked up the pieces, gave me a HUGE sigh of relief. So unless I'm living in another planet (I may be :D), just knowing this is going to come, I would have given a whole bunch more money just to make it happen. Because if ED can get the core stuff right (MP, SP, Netcode, mission editor, sandbox for 3rd party and mission makers to create in, etc.,etc.,etc.,), topple on the most immersive cockpits and WWII combat flying you can do, the most accurate flight modelling, and then keep working on a plethora of other WWII goodies, not only will this project and DCS explode, people will be throwing their wallets at you for what's next. So DX11, Quad SLI, some maps that are 100's of gigs in size, all in what appears to be an environment that actually appears to have LIFE and detail; just some of the goodies I've been hearing about EDGE. How can any other WWII aviation enthusiast not be drooling at the opportunity? :joystick: Well, that's just my take. I appreciate the further update Sith and those at ED who kept this going. :pilotfly: -
The 1st mention I saw about the map SDK came from Ilya and DCSWWII. If that's been discussed elsewhere please direct me to it. I understand about the DS integration into the DSCW, but just want someone to give us a little inside scoop on both. Those are very important IMO to the success and future of the product.

I'm happy this is still being developed. My main concern(s) are about the map making SDK and a real dedicated server for MP. The map SDK was supposed to come with release of DCSWWII and the dedicated server software has been talked about since the early A10 beta days. MP will struggle terribly (like it has been for years) until they can get some reasonable netcode and stability to 70+ (hoping 100) planes on a server with all the statics/objects/objectives to go with it. Any more news on those 2?

Any recent updates on Edge integration for DCS?

Ah yes. 2 jugs for the price of one. Thank you :D -

All I know is after seeing some of the shots that Wags posted with regards to EDGE, I think it will be well worth the wait. I just wish these guys would tease us a bit more. I'm having some serious jug deprivation at the moment :D -
Hi Lenny - You really need to try MP out. Lots of friendly folks to help you get going, and with 100 players all in the same server, it can get a little crazy. Have a watch and look at some of the shenanigans :) And here's a little teaser from MP: http://vimeo.com/91091447

I just wanted to say how much I'm looking forward to the level of complexity that DCS offers coupled in a WWII sim. I'm excited as hell for this project and really hope this is the beginning of making every single WWII plane and theater of operations spanning the entire war. Just wanted to give my appreciation to the devs and fellow backers. Here's hoping for dedicated server software as well  And @ Ilya, please please (pretty please!) realize you have a huge talented fan base willing to help you FOR FREE!! If you need it, by all means ASK for it. There are many folks dropping over themselves looking to get involved with a project like this. Just don't forget that please! Thanks again. The waiting will be the hardest part. :joystick:

Combined Development Update - November 1, 2013
ATAG_Bliss replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Fantastic update. Those P47 gauges are the best I've ever seen. Just makes you want to reach out and touch them. :D Just imagine all this in DX11 with all the lighting and reflections on!! :shocking:  -
What are you talking about? Not only did I back this game with $500, I wi be giving away a set of pedals for the drawing. I also started the SYN server for ROF, was a beta tester for ROF. And I'm a premium backer for BoS. So I can't talk on those forums now? Are you 10 years old or something? What have you done for the flight sim community? The only troll I see are those incapable of rational discussion without resorting to insults. Good show.
-
All I know is that Ilya and Co. have made the best 2 flight sims I've ever played (IL2 / IL2COD). I'll gladly wait to add the 3rd one to my list.

Hi guys. Long story short. I got a huge promotion and they moved me immediately (IE - all my stuff is with the movers and am in the middle of house hunting again, not to mention trying to do the new job) Between all the traveling I've done (literally have both driven and flown around 6000 miles combined in the past 2 weeks) I'm finally in my home duty station looking for a house. I'm doing the hotel thing at the moment, but should be able to do the drawing sooner than later. It's just been a really busy last few weeks. Imagine being told you have 20 days to move 2500 miles. Now picture being around 1500 miles from your real home, and you having 4 vehicles and a 32ft enclosed trailer that far away (2 of which are race cars) and trying to move all that stuff, get ready to move, clean the house etc., etc.. I need a break :D But, seriously, someone is going to be getting those things soon. (Lucky SOB :) )

Normandy Development Update - October 16, 2013
ATAG_Bliss replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Hey mazex, It can most definitely look cloudy etc, but I would have loved to see what the top of that water looked like from a bright and sunny day with blue skies. I'm betting it would be a lot different. As you probably well know, a large percentage of what the water will look like from above also has to do with reflections. Just look at the water at the beach when it's overcast compared to bright blue skies and sun. The ocean doesn't have much blue when the sky is overcast, raining etc. Looks like your son was perfectly ready to get his picture taken ;).
