  1. Yes, it's definitely a welcome sign. They had the mesh data for Shiraz already there from Persian Gulf. But most of the most relevant bases for the 1980s-present are within the map's scope to the north and west of Shiraz. Thanks to the "12 Day War" these are now even relevant to the F-35. The only serious conflict it has fought in. Surely that must be a huge selling point?? (Also, speaking personally, if we can get Dezful, I'm getting the MiG-29A!)
  2. By the way, if I can make a suggestion, for realism you could use the screen overlay/ GUI design elements from the open source ArduPilot, which is what is used in Ukraine. Not sure if this is possible without API access though. https://ardupilot.org/
  3. Thanks. Very relevant given the way Ukraine is going.
  4. +1 This along with proper conifers would get me to buy Kola! At present it just seems to have little atmosphere that Caucuses doesn't.
  5. Can't wait for this, I was already having way more fun in the IceHummer Ka-52 than in the actual Ka-50.
  6. An Il-76 would be absolutely incredible, and they're already pretty well documented as the existence of pretty good modules for XPlane shows. An An-24/26 would be more comparable to a Hercules as a theatre-level transport as well. But I think we all want the Il-76
  7. Being charitable, the best reason to think so is that while the F-35 represents a huge potential cash cow, without these things it is just a flying iPad with AMRAAMs. It should be noted that "cool kid" War Thunder players (yes, let's go in for invidious generational stereotyping since it seems to be becoming common), who seem to be the notional market for the F-35, are used to a reasonably good level of battlefield simulation.
  8. I too, had a bad version Flanker on the Atari ST, but the thing is people's expectations for fidelity have increased a bit since 1995, and that isn't the same thing as being cranky. The comparisons to Microprose F-19 Stealth Fighter (a completely made up Skunkworks plane of course) or the F-22 game from back in the day suggest regression not progress. It was fine for flight sims in the 90s to be fantasy games because home systems were incapable of simulating anything anyway.
  9. Exactly. The realistic peer adversary to the F-35 isn't a Redfor jet anyway, it's an IADS plus 3rd and 4th gen jets in somewhere like Iran. There is no current way to truly simulate that in DCS without rigging up a number mods for the IADS, ELINT and modern redfor SAMS, and even then the RCS and EW modelling would probably leave you with a fairly meaningless contest.
  10. Whatever the maths is here, as someone running a low end system that's fine with modules like the F-14 and definitely intent on getting the MiG-29 I really hope they don't tank the performance for the sake of screenshots.
  11. If the F-35 comes with core game improvements (AI, EW, RCS) that mean there can be a meaningful simulation of it in its tactical environment, then I think there can be a useful niche between the other sims on the market that focus more on civilian and "arcade" style combat gameplay. The trouble is that hasn't really been the pattern with previous modules, as far as I have seen. We get excellence, but excepting graphics, that excellence stops at the boundary of the module and the world.
  12. @DD_Friar That was it, thanks a lot. Working perfectly now.
  13. First of all CFrag, thanks for this "construction kit" it is actually making DCS mission creation fun. I am trying to use the aswSubs drop-in and have configured it as-per the docs, however, the submarine just stays on the surface and doesn't attack, nor can it be attacked. Seems it is not being recognized by aswSubs. I have my Kilo class inside the asw zone and have the aswSubsConfig zone designating a target group. Is there something I'm missing? I definitely have all the dependencies loaded; the rest of the ASW stuff is running fine (loading and dropping the ordinance.)
  14. I noticed flying the Huey today that it already has something like this; just press a button and copilot flies on current alt and heading. That would be a gamechanger for the Hip.
  15. There's a mod for the dolphin nose out there by some Russian guys who were making a Su-24. It's purely cosmetic though.
  16. I would really like to see a Petrovich for the Mi-8 similar to the Mi-24's pilot AI. Basically just a pie menu with voice feedback that you tell to do things like, "hey fly this in a straight line while I fiddle with the instruments" or "hey, hold this hover," or "hey, configure the weapons", "hey, tune the ADF" etc. etc. That would reflect real world usage and be very useful (necessary, really) when flying in IFR conditions.
  17. I agree I do not expect anything not in the "deliverables" and I will definitely not be buying Early Access on the assumption of getting more. Although I don't know why there would be performance issues when there are already mammoth maps like Kola. The whole detail area/low detail area paradigm is rather weird when you think about it. Areas that are not intended to be used for anything but make the maps look bigger than they are. It would be nice if the community could add better satellite textures or new airbases to the "low detail areas" and bring them up to a BMS level of usability. Otherwise what are they doing there?
  18. I agree formation lights are way too dim. But having the setting would be a step in the right direction and as for not even having the setting yet long after the issue has been noted, I can't understand how this is possible.
  19. According to Google and my searches of this forum, there has never been a function in the Mission Editor or in LUA to force AI aircraft to turn on their formation lights at night. If I'm not mistaken this makes normal night escort missions sort of impossible. In all my experiments the AI aircraft go dark shortly after taking off. Am I wrong or should this be part of the "Wishlist"?
  20. Been playing since 2014 but only just made an account here to add my voice to requests for Iranian bases. Look here at the ORBAT for the IRIAF (scramble.nl). Most of the classic late Cold War modules in DCS are still being operated by the IRIAF/IRIAA including the MiG-29A, F-14A, MiG-21, F-1, F-4E, F-5, Huey (Twin Huey), forthcoming AH-1 mod, CH-47 (H). We could have in the Iraq map the MiG-29A base at Dezful, the Tomcat base at Isfahan and the historical Tomcat base at Bushehr. You've also got the whole Turkish border which could be used to recreate one of the most famous raids in history, on H-3.At the moment, in the Persian Gulf map, the only really interesting Iranian base is Bandar Abbas for the F-4. That was a huge missed opportunity and it would be good were that not to happen again.
