Could you please look at your windows error logs right after you try running Kneeboard Builder and e-mail them to me. To view the error logs in windows 7: click on the start menu -> control panel -> system and security -> administrative tools -> event viewer-> expand 'windows logs' -> click on application. For windows 8 / 10: right click on the start menu -> computer management -> expand 'event viewer' -> expand 'windows logs' -> click on application To save your all events: right click on application -> save all events as -> enter a name and save as an Event File (.evtx) To save a single event: right click on the event(s) you want to save -> save selected event -> enter a name and save as an Event File (.evtx) E-mail the logs to me at s13solutions@gmail.com. Thanks.

Probably since it is an untrusted .exe (it doesn't have a certificate). You may have to disable your windows defender or anti-virus temporarily. I promise there isn't anything nefarious coded into it.

Hotfix for MiG-21 and AJS37 Crash This hotfix should stop the crash on startup that many of you are experiencing while I continue on working towards a permanent fix. It disables the MiG-21 and AJS37 custom kneeboard sizing and color scheme features. Adding custom images to the MiG-21 and AJS37 will still work though. This is a beta version of Kneeboard Builder that I haven't been able to thoroughly test. It has several other changes included as well, so please let me know if you run into any problems. (crossing my fingers you don't) Installation: Open the attached .zip file and copy the KneeboardBuilder.exe file to your Kneeboard Builder directory and overwrite the existing .exe file. When you start Kneeboard Builder be sure you select 'no' when it asks if you want to update. Turn off auto-updates in the Options-> Preferences menu to keep the program from asking you to update every time you start it. KneeboardBuilder 1.6.9.9 Hotfix.zip

I apologize for the very long delay. I believe the issue is related to my work around code to get Kneeboard Builder to work with the MiG-21 and Viggen since their kneeboard logic is non-standard compared to the other modules. I've been getting hammered with mandatory overtime at work and I just haven't found the motivation lately to dig back through my code to fix it yet. (That and VR flying has kept me distracted too) It is on my to-do list though...

flyco, Can you PM me your sptifire and uh-1h device_init.lua files (or e-mail them to s13solutions@gmail.com). Thanks.
-
That seems to happen when you have an old or corrupt version of the device_init.lua. Try this: 1) Put Kneeboard Builder into Lite Mode (Options -> Preferences -> Use Lite Mode). 2) Verify the 'device_init_original.lua' has been deleted in the "/mods/aircrafts/(name of aircraft)/cockpit/scripts/ 3) Run 'Repair DCS World' 4) Take Kneeboard Builder out of Lite Mode and try customizing the kneeboard again.

Neon and Recon Stewart thanks for the logs. The good news is it looks like you both are showing the same problem and it is a bug in the software, not your systems. It looks like it is related to the work around I have for the MiG-21 and AJS37 since they handle the kneeboard differently than the other modules. I am pretty busy this week, but I will try to get to the bottom of it soon. Thanks again for your help.

I personally prefer the way you are using it with different installations for each version.
-
Is DCS still crashing for you when viewing images added to the kneeboard? Is it still just the Beta version or are others affected too? Sorry for the delay.
-
Did you you point the DCS install directory in Kneeboard Builder to the DCS openAlpha? (Options -> Preferences)
-
Select 'Use lite mode' under Options -> Preferences. or To do it manually, for each aircraft locate the 'device_init_original.lua' and rename it to 'device_init.lua' (Usually located in ...\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\aircraftname\Cockpit\Scripts)

Sorry for the absence. My wife was in an accident and I have been busy with real life for the last several weeks. Kneeboard Builder is a free utility that will help you with that. However, if you want to do it manually: Go to '...\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21bis\Cockpit\KNEEBOARD\indicator\init.lua' and comment out or delete these lines: is_left = true is_top = false --true zoom_value = 0.5 default_width = 0.25 * LockOn_Options.screen.height update_screenspace_diplacement(2/3,is_left,zoom_value) Just be aware that this method will violate multiplayer integrity checks and you will be kicked from any server enforcing integrity checks. There is a way that passes integrity checks but it is much more involved to get setup and would be easiest just to let Kneeboard Builder do it for you. If you plan on flying multiplayer I would highly recommend using Kneeboard Builder as its modifications will pass integrity checks.

You can select your DCS installation using Options->Preferences.
-
Kneeboard Settings is greyed out if Kneeboard Builder can't access your saved games folder and/or the DCS installation folder. In the Options -> Preferences window make sure the DCS path is pointing to your OpenBeta installation and the Saved Games path is pointing only to your saved games directory (not to /Saved Games/DCS.openalpha). You may need to run Kneeboard Builder as an administrator as well.
-
Let me know if Kneeboard Builder doesn't work for you, I just put out a new version yesterday. I can tell you how to do it manually as well. It will require a little lua editing.
-
Kneeboard Builder does just that and it passes multiplayer integrity checks. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129341 www.dcskneeboardbuilder.com

Version 1.6.9.8 Released Version 1.6.9.8 is now available. - Fixed some FC3 aircraft kneeboards not customizing - All FC3 aircraft can now have individually customized kneeboards - Fixed taskbar icon kneeboard profiles not removing profile after deletion - Fixed create profile advisory not appearing when there are no existing profiles in 'All' category IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are having problems with custom kneeboards not appearing correctly, kneeboard pages not cycling or aircraft cockpits disappearing please complete the following steps: 1) Put Kneeboard Builder in 'lite mode' (Options -> Preferences -> Use Lite Mode) This will remove all of the old backup files. 2) Repair DCS World 3) Take Kneeboard Builder out of 'lite mode'. This will create new backup files using the correct newly updated files. It is best practice to put Kneeboard Builder in 'lite mode' prior to updating DCS World to make sure all the necessary files are updated correctly.

I hadn't noticed that before, but I just checked and my system was doing the same thing. Good news is I think I found the problem and the fix for it. Long story short, Kneeboard Builder makes a copy of each aircrafts device_init.lua to use as a backup. However, when DCS World gets updated Kneeboard Builder doesn't know to replace the backup with the new updated device_init.lua, so it kept using the old file, which had been changed for the a-10c a few patches ago. The fix for that right now is: 1) Put Kneeboard Builder in 'lite mode' (Options -> Preferences -> Use Lite Mode) This will remove all of the old backup files. 2) Repair DCS World 3) Take Kneeboard Builder out of 'lite mode'. This will create new backup files using the correct newly updated files. Everything should work normally after that. I will try to improve the Kneeboard Builder logic to prevent these problems in the future, but until then it appears it will be best practice to put Kneeboard Builder in 'lite mode' before running a DCS update.

Version 1.6.9.7 Released Version 1.6.9.7 is now available. - Fixed kneeboard pages not cycling in DCS
-
I updated but did not have the same problem. I am wondering if your viewport.lua or device_init.lua for each module is out of date or corrupted somehow. Did you try the fixes I mentioned in the post above? If your default kneeboard works normally after trying those fixes then you can try taking Kneeboard Builder out of lite mode and try moving your kneeboards around.
-
Try running Kneeboard Builder in 'Lite Mode' (Options -> Preferences -> Use Lite Mode). That will reset the kneeboards to their default settings. Then try DCS again. If that doesn't work, keep Kneeboard Builder in Lite Mode and run a repair on DCS World and try DCS again without running Kneeboard Builder first. If it still crashes, please send me your DCS log (/Saved Games/DCS/Logs/dcs.log) after the crash. My e-mail is s13solutions@gmail.com. Hopefully I will be able to find out if it is a Kneeboard Builder problem or a DCS bug. Thanks.

I'll update my DCS and see if I have the same problem.
