Version 1.7.1.0 Released Version 1.7.1.0 is now available. -Added support for aircraft mods like the A-4E installed in the Saved Games/DCS/Mods directory. -Added 'Custom' option to the DCS Install Directory drop down in Preferences to allow for using saved games folders that don't match up with DCS installs. When using the 'Custom' option the saved games folder must point directly to the subfolder for DCS, ie ...Saved Games/DCS.openbeta. -Changed the 'Kneeboard Settings' option to 'Kneeboard Profiles' with 'Modify' and 'Reset Default' submenu options. -Added F/A-18C and A-4E images to Kneeboard Profiles page. A few notes: 1) I originally coded the DCS Install Directory paths to automatically locate the correct paths when 'Standard', 'OpenBeta' etc were selected to make it easy for people to setup. This also automatically linked the DCS installation with the correct DCS saved games folder for default installations. However, it hasn't playing well with some folks' setups so I have added the 'Custom' option. When you select the custom option you can manually select a saved games subfolder that doesn't have to match with the Standard or OpenBeta schema. So technically you should be able to have an OpenBeta install but use the Standard install's saved games folder for example. It should also fix problems that arise when you move DCS installs to different drives. Hopefully that makes sense and solves some issues a few of you have been running into. 2) Whenever you select a Kneeboard Profile to change the kneeboard size or position for an aircraft, Kneeboard Builder modifies a single line in that aircraft's 'device_init.lua' file (generally located in .../Mods/aircraft/aircraftname/cockpit/scripts) to point to the custom kneeboard settings in your saved games directory. This allows for the custom settings to pass integrity checks. I added the 'Reset Default' submenu to the 'Kneeboard Profiles' (formerly Kneeboard Settings') menu. This will restore those files that were modified and revert to the default kneeboard for all aircraft. This has no effect on your custom kneeboard images or groups and will not delete or modify any of your saved kneeboard profiles. It is an easy way to revert to back to the default kneeboard sizing and positioning. Feel free to contact me with any problems or concerns.

It is possible to create a kneeboard page using static data on mission load like I did with the dynamic kneeboards included with Kneeboard Builder. Take a look at my dynamic mission briefings in Kneeboard Builder if you want to try that method. I included comments in those files to try to explain what is going on. I had to learn how to do it by trial and error as there is no guide or tutorial. Interactive kneeboards like in the Mi-8 aren't possible (as far as I know) since the kneeboard redraw function is hard coded into the aircraft modules and can't seem to be accessed via lua only. If there is a way it to do it using it is beyond my expertise as I have never figured out how.

They are located here: "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Nevada\Kneeboard" "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Caucasus\Kneeboard" "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Normandy\Kneeboard" "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\PersianGulf\Kneeboard"

Sounds like you are referring to the charts located in these locations: "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Nevada\Kneeboard" "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Caucasus\Kneeboard" "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Normandy\Kneeboard" "...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\PersianGulf\Kneeboard"

Thank you for the detailed explanation and some numbers to shoot for RhinoDrvr. I'll give it a shot.

It is basically just an overlay that always sits on top of your screen. So just run that program when you are replaying your track and go to your alt-f9 view.
-
Using your advice I am much more consistent in my lineup and AOA on my final rollout. Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know the numbers to hit during the Triple Nickel approach other than the break starting at 500 knots and 500 feet over the ramp and ending in the Groove at .5 miles from the carrier? I tried to get as much I can from this video posted by Wingnut: For my attempt I hit the ramp at around 500 feet and 500 knots, pulled a hard 5.5 to 6 Gs left turn with full speedbrake to get to the 180 as soon as possible while trying to maintiain 500 feet. At the 180 I let off on the turn to about 2 Gs, continuing variable speedbraking to get to gear, flaps and hook down by the 90. Post 90 I used power management and increased turn rate to try to get to the start of the Groove on speed at around 370 feet. I let off of the turn a bit too much and ended up to the right of the Groove and a bit further than .5 miles from the carrier. Despite my power management being a bit sloppy I still managed to hit the 3 wire relatively lined up and a bit low. I flew it in VR and recorded the track, so the recording FOV is a bit too close and the camera shaky. I am getting more consistent hitting the Groove, but it is still hit or miss. Any knowledgeable tips would be appreciated.

Try running Kneeboard Builder as an administrator.
-
Don't use the Height and Width offsets. That is mainly for HELIOS users who need to restrict the screen area the kneeboard can display on.

How to setup throttle detent?
AlaskanGrizzly replied to jasonstory44's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
For my X-65 I am not yet sure how how to set it up for the idle detent, but as far as the afterburner detent I am using the following custom curves for each throttle axis: Slider User Curve 0, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 For me that puts full mil power just before the AB detent. EDIT: I just figured out a way to get the idle detent to work using bands and advanced commands in the profiler software. I put the bands on mode 4 so I don't accidentally kill the engines mid-flight. 1) Using the profiler software add three bands to both throttles. The first (top) band should be 93% and the 2nd and 3rd bands should split the difference (3-4% each). 2) Assign an advanced command to the 2nd bands for the Engine Starts. Use only the 'Press' command and set the press intervals for both keys to 0 and the release interval for both keys to .1 3) Assign an advanced command to the 3rd bands for the Engine Shutoffs. Use only the 'Press' command and set the press intervals for both keys to 0 and the release interval for both keys to .1 4) Test the profile to make sure the start commands fire only once when the throttle is moved into the idle detent and the shutoff commands fire only once when the throttle is moved to the off position. I'm attaching my x-65 profile for reference. DCS FA-18C.zip -
how do I change kneeboard file for each theatre I'm flying
AlaskanGrizzly replied to fitness88's topic in DCS Modding
The default kneeboard locations for each terrain are located at: ...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Nevada\Kneeboard ...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Caucasus\Kneeboard ...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\Normandy\Kneeboard ...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains\PersianGulf\Kneeboard Just modify the content in each of those to your liking. Kneeboard Builder is a free program that makes managing your kneeboards a little easier: http://www.dcskneeboardbuilder.com/ -
If you 'alt-tab' when it hangs does an error pop-up?
-
Did my recent update fix the hanging problem you were experiencing?

If you are using Kneeboard Builder I just put out an update that will allow you to move the Viggen kneeboard.

Extract the attached file to your Kneeboard Builder folder. Open the file with a text editor like Notepad++ and change the 'DCSpath' and 'SavedGamesPath' to match your system. KneeboardBuilder.exe.Config.zip

I am working on an update for Kneeboard Builder that will bring back support for positioning the Viggen kneeboard and maybe the Mig-21 kneeboard.
-
Which aircraft are you trying to set the profile for?
-
Try the attached .zip file. Extract everything to the '...\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\AJS37\Cockpit\scripts\KNEEBOARD\pages' folder and replace all the .lua files. All I did was modify the font size modifier from .06 to .95 in each file. You can continue to tweak the font size to your liking by changing the red numbers in line 89 (sometimes 90) in each of the .lua files. Try small increments (.01 or .05) until it looks good for you. You will have to reload the mission to see your changes (Shift - R). txt.stringdefs = {default_char_height*0.95, default_char_width*0.95,0,0} Viggen Kneeboard Fix.zip

It may be having difficulty distinguishing between the stable versions now that there are two of them. I'll have to take a look at it.

Sometimes the error popup gets stuck behind the splash screen so you can't see it. If you alt-tab it should eventually show up. Can you send me your windows error logs right after you try running Kneeboard Builder? They will give me a good idea of what the problem is. For windows 10: Right click on the start menu -> computer management -> expand 'event viewer' -> expand 'windows logs' -> click on application To save your all events: right click on application -> save all events as -> enter a name and save as an Event File (.evtx) To save a single event: right click on the event(s) you want to save -> save selected event -> enter a name and save as an Event File (.evtx) E-mail the logs to me at s13solutions@gmail.com.
