  1. :megalol: Reminds me of a good English football song, that goes something like this: "If I had the wings of a sparrow, if I had the arse of a crow. I'd fly over <insert location>, and sh@te on the b@stards below." ...there's more but saying so would invite trouble from our superb and glorious moderators on this most excellent forum for rule infractions. :smilewink:
  2. Do the hotkeys for FaceTrackNoIR work in game for anyone?
  3. Personally I think your arrangement of eyefinity i.e. the 3 large screens is the best option atm, but seriously you must need to dedicate a whole room for that kind of setup :joystick:
  4. Totally agree with you there. I'm suprised we havent seen a viable* solution to this yet? *something that costs the same as buying the individual monitors.
  5. I'm no expert but I believe the source of the problem is how DCS A10c handles the HeadtrackingAPI.dll as opposed to any fault with FacetrackNoir. If this is the case then its a question of asking ED nicely to investigate.
  6. Yes you can remove an axis detection, personally I still find it too sensitive which I am hoping to iron out with the settings. Also I would like to be able to use a HOTAS button to enable/disable the head tracking. Overall though its pretty damn good.
  7. I am sure I read somewhere on these forums that using a secondary low spec GPU caused a massive performance hit overall, but you don't seem to have any issues with that....
  8. Do you miss the cockpit and do you bother with head tracking with your setup (which is very nice btw)?
  9. Do you drive these 8" displays off your primary GPU with 3 ports, or install a secondary GPU with dual ports and leave the primary to do the main display?
  10. I thought you would find that funny. I use the official Microsoft SDK beta for Win7 (x64): http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/kinectsdk/download.aspx ....and a custom DirectShow filter released by a very helpful chap on MSDN: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/kinectsdk/thread/4ee6e7ca-123d-4838-82b6-e5816bf6529c Although the RGB cam in the MS Kinect isn't mega quality it does seem to keep a consistent 30fps (where other cams do not) and the result is that it does feel quite responsive. I also have no issues with the distance of the Kinect to my face I think its about 40cm presumably because its not using the depth cam atm.
  11. As long as I can take off and land on an aircraft carrier I'll be happy. Does the Space Shuttle count as a fixed winged aircraft? That would be a seriously cool SIM. :)
  12. I don't know how feasible this would be but it occured to me the other day that many of the head tracking movements are repetative i.e. looking side to side horizontally or focusing on specific panels. To that end would it be a good idea to weight the motion by learning from the user input to make it more predictable for the software and deliver a smoother experience. In essence to trade a little freedom for a more polished result.
  13. What happens if you remove the headtracking DLL and ini files you copied to the DCS program files bin folder? I have issues holding still too, I was thinking of using the ON/OFF hotkey feature mapped to a HOTAS button so it only headtracks when I want it to.
  14. IMHO if you have access to a webcam or Xbox Kinect experiment with FaceTrackNoIR first before forking out on TrackIR5. If you are unhappy with the results you have lost nothing. I live in the UK and a TrackIR5 with pro clip will cost you upwards of $225 minimum! I know when I started using the TM HOTAS Warthog I knew very soon afterwards that I also needed pedals for the experience I was after. I would advise that you factor this cost in with the TM Warthog. Personally I went HOTAS first then pedals, then headtracking with FaceTrackNoIR.
  15. I use Win7 x64 and can confirm that it is working though I haven't spent much time using it. What I would really like to control is the tracking not reacting to small head movements better. I am assuming that the NeutralZone and tracking curves are the key here but I am also a little confused as to the effects of the EWMA filter/settings. I think its good in that you have a wide variety of options, to the newbie its almost like there are too many. If I get into it more I may have a go at writing a guide to help others which you can use and change (no strings attached) as you see fit.
  16. I was having a problem with the z-axis but restarting the applications seemed to help and it does work. It maybe of interest to you that I'm using an Xbox Kinect as the video hardware, though obviously not the depth or IR cam just the RGB cam. So you can add that to your list of compatible cameras ;-) I'd be interested to see how others have used the settings and curves, I still get an awful lot of movement in game for small head movements.
  17. Its kind of working though I must admit I havent spent anytime tweaking the settings atm its far too sensative. Which options are best to play with, and can I ALT+TAB out of DCS A10 to do them on the fly? btw I can't seem to get any zoom control? (though I think I read an earlier post stating about this being down to the ED API)
  18. Many people (including myself) find that after aquiring a TM Hotas Warthog that you need pedals. Whilst you can map brakes and rudder control elsewhere it just feels wrong in practice. In answer to your OP basically Trim, trim trim trim and more trim and also a decent joystick which doesn't drift.
  19. I have also set them as an axis in the controller configuration inside DCS-A10c, I also had to reverse the axis to get the press to brake type setup I wanted. When you get it working you'll love it, much more satisfying than a mapped HOTAS button or keyboard key IMHO.
  20. The purpose of the SDK is to allow people to write non-comercial applications which support the Kinect hardware. This includes the PC and you should be able to recognise the Kinect in Windows 7 without using opensource and hacked drivers anymore. To connect the Kinect to a PC you need a special power adapter which supplies the Kinect with more juice and also gives you a standard USB interface to plug it into the PC (or one of the older xbox360 units). Initially they were a bit pricey but now they are very cheap I got one the other day for about £10. If memory serves ED very kindly released a headtracking API recently which in theory could be used in conjunction with the Kinect SDK. If anyone is working on such a project and wants a tester PM me, I can hook up my Kinect to my Win7(x64) PC.
  21. Microsoft released the beta Kinect SDK today, I know a fair few DCS fans have been waiting for progress on this and thought it worth sharing. You need Windows 7 to run it and they have released a 32 & 64bit installer. I hope this pushes NaturalPoint into somekind of action they have been keeping quiet for sometime now.
  22. Maybe you'll get a V.3. unit this time ;-) That's seriously unlucky though dude, but consider this for a moment in your hour of need... ThankFk you bought it from Amazon.
  23. The TM Hotas Warthog is the best off the shelf input system you can currently buy, it isn't cheap or even good value its simply the best it has raised the bar and it will likely stay there until there is competition. Like any mass produced product its not without its reported problems and examples of weak customer service, but there are also examples of very happy owners. As a consumer make sure you buy one from a retailer with a good track record of customer service and one recognisible by the TM warranty and you should be fine long term.
  24. I purchased the power adapter for £10 the other day to allow me to plug the Xbox Kinect (which I already own) into my PC. No sign of the official drivers and SDK-beta yet though but I am willing to give it a go. I think TrackIR5 was a brilliant solution in 2009, but I am struggling to come to terms with the fact its now 2011 and not much has happened with game support and or product updates/price. Maybe it is the best option for flight sims for a long time yet but my gut feel says no, especially having used Kinect on Xbox360. Natural Point isn't helping matters either by keeping quiet.....
