  1. No it doesn't, what it does mean is that you need a game engine to fully utilise the hardware resources of a modern PC and be honest about the recommended spec. The issue is not everyone has decent PC hardware and development costs are expensive, hence the commercial desicion to compromise. I'm not taking a cheap shot at ED here, I'm just saying and making an observation that's the way it is. My PC could handle it probably yours too, but there will be 1000's that cannot OR the development expense is too high for the return. :smartass:
  2. I think you would want something more like this where the counter weight has adjustable and at a raise angle so the support bar doesn't collide with the base during forward movement: I think the bend in the real stick is fairly low, lower than these diagrams suggest. Again it depends on your situation one size doen't fit all because people are different height, have their seats at different heights and have different designs of seat.
  3. The bend design (within the limits/dimensions I used as a compromise) copes fine recentering forwards and backwards from full deflection. :joystick: It is I would say close to its limit from my subjective tests, the Warthog handle as you know has a fair bit of weight and if say you attempted 50mm off center I think you may start to see a problem. I guess you could counter-weight it somehow like telescopes and equatorial mounts. The long stick extension designs require a different solution it will be interesting to see how the cockpit builders solve that issue I don't think we have seen a 'long stick with bend' yet. Perhaps something building on agrasyuk's solution with adjustable spring tenstion...
  4. Thanks guys Im a fan of your respective works too. The extension measures 95mm height with the bend moving the stick 40mm off center. The stick does spring back to center but I wouldn't want to push it much further I think it was more luck than good judgement to not over do it. In my case I intend to build a pedestal to center mount the base with the extra 40mm afforded by the bend allowing me to mount it further away from my legs/body. Thats the plan anyway... The copper section is a 22mm cross-over pipe section that has been machined down, then silver soldered to a copper reducer. These bits are easy to get hold of from a plumbing store. The nut and thread comes from a hydraulic fitting P/N 739-326 from a UK company called Radio Spares, the manufacturer is Parker and their P/N is GE28LREDCF. The tricky bit is to machine the thread off the hydraulic fitting then silver solder it to the copper. The nut at the other end is is prevented from coming away by a brass insert soldered to the copper reducer.
  5. Your solution inspired me to create my own extenstion with an awful lot of help of an engineer. I really wanted to introduce a bend in the extension to bring the handle closer as I use a regular office chair that can't have the cut out for the central mounting. Im not offering to make these for others btw, but happy to share info on the parts and construction.
  6. If you have a webcam already then go for it with FTNoIR, but I'll tell you now the difference is quite substantial compared to a TRIR5. If you want a cheap solution to headtracking that you can actually use in game (as opposed to just playing about on the ground) then you are probably better off with FreeTrack and buying a 2nd hand PS3Eye cam off ebay. You don't need headtracking to start off but it is something that adds a whole new dimension to the sim and understandibly players that do have it wouldn't go back. Personally I went the Hotas > Pedals > Headtracking route. Now I'm working on custom mounting options for the joystick....
  7. If you break your clip early on send it back for a replacement.... The only reason I dare say NP haven't updated the design is because people put up with it.
  8. And don't forget to vote this week.
  9. As I recall the pre-release beta cost $50 or $60 for A-10C, with I suspect a fair % now owning BS(2) and highly likely to pony up for the next DCS project as well at beta stage with the Nevada engine powered update. I would say ED are simply looking after their core customer base which is a good move all round.
  10. Hell with the canopy open you could drop your speed to 120kts and take a pee on them, then as they rofl unable to operate their weapons come around for the kill shot. <note do not try this in your simpit, due to potential electrical hazzards>
  11. One assumes ED banks more money if purchased directly? Which might be a consideration to fans/supporters of the DCS series vs. more casual gamers... Either way its a good thing and I hope A-10C picks up some awards for 2011.
  12. I have used an MS Kinect (xbox version obviously) and a PS3Eye with FaceTrackNoIR and let me tell you there is a huge difference in accuracy with these and a TIR5_Pro. Don't get me wrong I love what Kinect promises, but I'll believe it when I see it and as for integration with DCS well that not a trivial task I can only see that happening if it really proves popular with the SIM community.
  13. Amazon in the UK sells them for £64 or $100! Does anyone know of a more sensibly priced source?
  14. I would really like to fly the AH-64, but we all know another group is looking at that and we'll have to wait to see how it compares to DCS BS2 I guess... So I voted for the Mi-35 that is one mean dude of a heli.
  15. Other than the startup and shutdown procedure does the dual throttle function serve much of a purpose in A-10C?
  16. I have had a Logitech G9 mouse for 5yrs, best mouse I have ever owned.
  17. Thank you ED for clearing this up, I look forward to seeing your upgrade packages and new products.
  18. omg you could sell that back to the US armed forces I reckon
  19. Gents is this thread still relevent to BS2? I just wanted to ask quickly b4 embarking on 74pages of education...
  20. <I don't believe this has been mentioned yet, at least not here> Pre-purchase beta users of A10-C likely paid in the region of $60 at the time, where as now you can buy A10-C for $40 so if the update was to be charged at $20 for 'others' that would not be unreasonable.
  21. Yes credit where credit is due, all things being as they are bottom line I am pleased to see BS2 and happily purchased the full version.
  22. Is the cold start mission a good place to start for rookie pilots given the absence of an interactive tutorial on BS2, or should we be looking elsewhere?
  23. I think that is what people expect, but its far from clear that it is going to happen that way or indeed if we will end up with a 2-tier version of A-10C. The point is though if you are buying BS2 it is reasonable to ask up front what the plan is here, even if the answer is 'no Nevada update for DCS will be an exclusive to A-10C when its released', regardless of cost. I would like to see the KA-50 to be invited for a training exercise next year ;), but if thats not going to happen please don't tell me on the day its released.
  24. we seem to have three key issues here: 1. DCS Nevada update may or may not be free to people that bought the A-10C beta, which is probably best clarified in the A-10C forum and isn't really relevent to BS2. 2. DCS Nevada update which we know is applicable to A-10C logically could also apply to BS2 (with compatibility patch), but may not or worse still could be a seperate DCS BS2 Nevada update. 3. ED is being accused of poor information handling by some members of the community with respect to BS2. Personally I have no issue with paying for BS2 and paying for the Nevada update to DCS. I would however have an issue with having paid for the BS2 update and compatibility with A-10C, to then be faced with A-10C branching off again and being incompatible in Nevada scenarios or having to pay twice for the Nevada upate i.e. once for A-10C then again for BS2. The Nevada update is not likely to be too far away so I think its a fair question for BS2 owners and prospective owners, could we please have some clarity on this ED?
  25. Do we know, or can I ask please how the forth coming Nevada update to A10C might effect BS2?
