Game crashing/unplayable. Worth waiting for patches?
Marmusman replied to Obiwan's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have same problem in a-10c. I use xp also. Running with low settings helps. I also try not to fly with other planes (I realize that it is stupid, but at this point I am just trying to learn the game. So when I get a new computer I will be somewhat well versed.)...my video card is my problem. Not sure if it helps or just offers some comradery. [edit] Too add a little bit more info.....fires and smoke and explosions seem to always be the cause of my crashes. The more planes in game, then the more explosions...they do not even have to be occurring within my field of view or area of operation.....if another wing starts attacking somewhere else on the map, I get a crash. I wonder if there is a .lua or config file that can be tweaked to lower these explosion graphics??? Just a thought. -
I see in earlier replies to this post that some people were having issues finding a program to view the DXF files. If anybody needs PDF's of the drawings, I'd have no issue making them from AutoCAD and posting them for download. The PDFs could then be easily viewed and also taken to a Kinko's or other print stores that handle architectural drawings for plotting on a large format printer.

.dwg should be an AutoCAD drawing. If you need the file as a PDF, I have AutoCAD and can make it into a PDF. Did it come with a .ctb file also? The .ctb file has the lineweight settings. [edit] I noticed that you added the acad file link at the end of your original post. I made PDFs of the drawings. There are (4) drawings. Whoever made the original file numbered the pieces for (2) different sets that same, so I added "Set A" and "Set B" to the drawings to help keep it straight. They are 1:1 scale to be printed on 36" x 48" paper, also known as "Arch E" paper size (a standard architectural paper size). Kinkos or Staples should have a large format plotter to print these. Make sure to tell them that you need no scale factor adjustment. The first drawing has a very large piece and hopefully it will not get cut off by the printer's margins. I checked and it will print properly on my large format plotter, but they are all different. I added some dimensions to the pieces for you to check the scale after printing. (millimieter do not convert to inches very evenly, so there are lots of 1/16" dimensions.) The pdfs can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?br5stbqmmw6dre4 Also, I found this link that describes the build a little better: http://www.simpits.org/design/HowTo_AceIIseat/HowTo_Ace2.html Good luck with your project.

Freetrack stops working in 1.1.0,7
Marmusman replied to redneck fox3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I haven't installed the latest patch, but did the patch overwrite the newinput.dll file? -
You can find a patch needed for FreeTrack in this thread: http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=2683 It works for 32-bit only. There may be newer posts on the FreeTrack Website dealing with 64-bit, but I didn't need 64-bit. Copy the download file to your "DCS A-10C\bin" folder and run. It will backup your original "NewInput.dll" and replace it with one that allows FreeTrack to work. As a double backup, I made a copy of the original NewInput.dll just in case.

I run it on my laptop, thought is is a Dell workstation level laptop. The Satelite is typically a consumer level laptop.....the graphics card may not be up to the task. But I am no expert. The game runs on my laptop, but it is not optimal.....I do it more to learn the game and eventually plan to get a high end desktop for it. Frame rates tend to stutter slightly and mostly low in-game graphics settings. For your info and comparison, here is some of my DxDiag info. I am not sure if that helps or not. Paul, I just checked out your checklist. Great! Has quick list and also the control panel references on the back. Thanks. Now I don't have to learn italian.

Just purchased this morning...impressed (yet, overwhelmed)
Marmusman replied to robnpat's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
regarding TrackIR....there is a EBay Store that sells New TrackIR 5 for $139.99 with free shipping. I have not bought from them (I am cheap and use FreeTrack), but a friend did. It was the best price he could find. (before you ask, I am not the one selling them.) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140370917149&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT -
I agree, but as a newb it is overwhelming....too many buttons!!! LOL. One day, probably by the time a translate the Italian, I will know the short checklist!! I think the original post was referring to the longer list.

The second download on the page is the short checklist and yes, it is in English. But the first download in the list, which is an in depth 20 page ramp startup explanation with images of where the switches are located....THAT is in Italian. Would be nice to have the in-depth procedure in English. I can use adobe to read the characters and then paste the text into Babelfish to translate, but Babelfish does a terrible job. It would take some time to re-write....but I guess I would know the startup procedure by the end! LOL

This is a great post....and some great responses. I am also a newb (I bought at Beta 4 release but didn't play much until final) and am still overwhelmed. I have yet to get all the way through the startup tutorial!! LOL. There is some good info in this thread for newbs. I was almost afraid to ask simple questions, since so many of you guys seem 'hardcore.' :pilotfly: Cheers! -
I think it is worth $60. I bought it knowing it wouldn't work very well on my computer.....but I know it will be around for years to come....and I am sure i will get a new computer eventually!! The full immersion of the simulation is well worth it. Heck, check out all the people building those complex simpits! The $60 is a drop in the bucket to those guys.

FreeTrack in Final Release
Marmusman replied to Marmusman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Le0kong, As I was writing up a response to explain my errors, I realized that they didn't make much sense. I had an error while trying to get into the tutorial. then I could get into the cockpit to fly "instant action" but the screen was looking down to the right in the cockpit. The errors may not have been related to the newinput.dll file. So I went and reinstalled the fix and FreeTrack now works. Or at least worked. I was able to get into the "instant action" game and freetrack worked. But then went into the tutorial for aircraft startup and got errors. So who knows if it was the game or freetrack or what. I seem to get bazaar errors every once in a while even before the freetrack patch. Though the tutorial thing happened two or three times. In general the game has been buggy on my computer....maybe because the game is pushing the limits of my computer. Thanks for your input. So to all....I'd say that the latest FreeTrack fix for 32-bit A-10C works. -

I did not need ppjoy for beta 4. Anybody else have issues with the freetrack fix on a 32 bit install? -
FreeTrack in Final Release
Marmusman replied to Marmusman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, that is the one I have. It worked for Beta 4. But does not work with final release of A-10C ( at least, it doesn't work on my machine. Yes, my machine/game is 32 bit) -
I got FreeTrack to work in Beta 4 via a little fix found on the FreeTrack website. This fix does not appear to work on the Final Release version of A-10C. Has anybody else tried this? Thanks.

First Impressions: The design team did a great job improving the graphics frame rate during play! My computer is not really the best to handle this game, I was getting 20 to 5 FPS with Beta 4...pretty much unplayable. With the final release, I am getting 20 to 30 FPS...which means I can at least enjoy playing it and learning all the controls and in-flight technical simulations. I probably will not be able to fly online or really complex missions, but the simulation is half the fun. EtherealN - Thanks for the explaination! Damn this new fangled technology! My first computer had a 2400 baud, external modem, and that was twice as fast as all my friends! (For you youngin's, we used to have to use the phone lines and turn off some new feature called "call waiting" by dialing *70 first.)
