I also think that NATO forces are more prone to the public scrutiny so their weapons must be precise and great emphasis is placed on reducing collateral damage. Also the public opinion places great pressure on the military if there is casualties between allied forces creating the necessity to design weapons that reduce the exposure to enemy fire; in other words; public pressure forces de military to come up with safer ways to deliver weapons precisely and safer. I don't see the same level of concern in Russia for example the recent Ossetia conflict; loses like the ones suffered by russia would have been unacceptable here in the States. Rockets and su-25s do the job and very cheap; an old school approach to war; but again the su-25 become more susceptible of getting shoot down than if they were using guided weapons. Maybe there is also a psychological factor; it must be very scary to suddenly see an airplane coming at you at 700 km/h and firing rockets at you! also it also inspire the troops to fight harder once they see that su-25 dropping bombs and rockets over the enemy nearby.

I tend to believe that the Rafale is more agile than the Eurofighter.

Virging Galactic and Scaled composites have a suborbital craft; but it is like touching space; it can't stay out there. Capsules may be cheaper but there is a big difference from landing like an airplane than landing like a pice of rock slowed with retro rockets and a parachute. I repeat my question; was the Buran affected by the same issues as the space shuttle? was the Energia booster covered with foam like the space shuttle main tank? if not that by itself reduces some of the risks for external damage. Also the Buran engines could be turn off; unlike the space shuttle solid rockets; Why NASA didn't considered that arrangement to improve safety on the space shuttle? I still can't understand why the space shuttle program had to be scrapped; to me it is a big downgrade going from a space shuttle to a capsule. I wonder why they don't build a rocket like the Energia; that way you can carry heavier loads for space exploration like going to the moon and stuff; and if you need to carry 7 people to space you could just attach an engineless Endeavor. ohh and there is a video of the f-117 flying this year; so it is not completely out of service; they may be using it for black ops; anyway we still don't know anything about the helicopters used to kill Osama soooo... there my be more secret craft than we know.

I wonder if the Buran had the same draw backs as the space shuttle. Still a shame that there is no replacement ready and that United States ends up practically without space program.

why is so hard to believe?

My favorite america airplane!

now it is my country's turn; flight on the kfir
-
oh ok! yeah kind suck if the airplane is parked there.

That is why if the cockpit is closed and you need to get out fast (emergency situation) you just punch out the airplane with the ejection seat. at least that is what I seen from other documentaries and journalist who have flown the russian birds. Yeah the journalist on the video where a bit funny one keep asking the other what he though about the speed and altitude; the other was like oh shit!

Venezuelan su-30mk going stratospheric Here is a small documentary of the Venezuelan su-30mks; It is on spanish so I'm going to put some of the info so you guys can understand what is going on. The two funny looking and guys are reporters who got the chance to fly on the back seats. For this flight they went up to 56000 feet at mach 1.7 and at -98 degrees(I think F) to test one of the mks after its scheduled maintenance performed by russian and venezuelan technicians. The pilot talked about the suit used for this flight which is a high altitude version; used to prevent death in the event of a decompression in the cockpit. At the end they talk about all the records the su-30 broke in south america: more than 50000 pounds of thrust engine(in south america) speed record 2500KM/H; altitude record 22000 mts. Hey they didn't do the climb in burners like we do in lomac :megalol:

Provably earlier; they got migs and flankers (provably on 1999 or 2000) way before that civilian su-27. also if you look at the videos of the aim'9x testing you can speculate that the f-4 used there had russian flare dispensers installed; if not why would the bother to block the image. They even tested the russian ejection seats after the spectacular mig-29 ejections at air shows; there is a video of a mig-25 testing that. At least one mig-23 came from Egypt; provably an earlier model; they concluded that it was not a dogfighter like the mig-21 and a higher ranking pilot died on a mig-23 when he pushed the limits to much.

an Mi-8 crashed there; on top of the reactor; I wonder if they recovered the remains and the pilots?

They crashed a mig-23 so it vis not unlikely

Tips for F-15 vs Su-27 online guns only
mikoyan replied to flyICE's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
here is the whole comversation to make my point: comment before your statement: Su-27 - a good turn F-15 - a good climb F-15 might lead to the Su-27 high altitude and try to attack through the benefits of climb. But it can end a frontal attack, and defeat the one who shoots more accurately. Do it on F-15 will only experienced pilot. F-15 lose to bend the Su-27 Modern fighter aircraft designed for combat in the light of short-range missiles. In this battle, better turn such aircraft as the Su-27 and F-16. If real fights were just on guns, the Su-27 would remove all the equipment you need not, and it would be an excellent rate of climb Sorry for my English, it Google translator and you said: Originally Posted by GGTharos And it would still have half the rate of climb of F-15 above 6000m. so again isn't the p-42 a stripped down su-27; so in other words you state that the p-42 would had less climb performance than the f-15? -

No I didn't the previous statement said something about tripping the su-27 of unnecessary wight and you said that it would still have less climb performance than the f-15; wasn't the p-42 a tripped down aircraft? seriously you never loose; I guess even the su-35 is going to loose in climb performance to the f-15c even though I have yet to see the real numbers of both. -
if you don't have the money for pedals get the x-52; it is not the best but it is very versatile and has a decent price; it has a good programmability and it has good precision. My x-52 has 5 years and only now is showing symptoms of wear; the rotaries do spike; specially in positions in the middle of the band; and the sticks tent to turn a bit to the right tanks to wear on the stick itself; but you can cured by using death bands or by trim. considering that it is 5 years old and a refurnish product i can say that the stick has been a great buy for me. I guess none of the new sticks are perfect; the ideal stick would be something like the a-10 hotas with the force feedback of the a Microsoft sidewinder. Unfortunately you would have to build your own. Some people had done it with the f-16 sticks but cost a ton of money to get the parts.

The mig has better power than the su-27 but it has smaller sweet spots for turn rates; so you really need to be good if you want to beat a light su-27 or a f-15. I guess that on the mig you want to start the turn from 800km/h to 700 to get the best turn rates; and make the flanker loose energy; around +-550-480km/h your turn rate gets better but below that; the mig start to loose energy like crazy so you become like a flying brick. The real deal can go to higher aoas but as the pilot reaches them; a stick kicker push the stick to reduce the alpha by 5 degrees; there is a video on youtube on which you can see the kicker (looks very clucnky) , maybe the flanker can also reach more than 30 degrees of aoa; also there is in flight video of the eagle doing like 35; but that is units not degrees so I'm not sure what is the maximum aoa on the eagle. one thing to look out agains flanker pilots is their speed; lock them to se how fast they are going; most of then go low at exactly 600km/h so right there you can tell that they want to play on their territory and use the maximum turn rate doing either a tight loop or a tight turn to get you while you turn into him; instead of playing their game you what to keep your energy going higher and faster. You can tell that most su-27 pilots use that tactic of turning like crazy from 600km; but if you play right they don't have enything else to play other than bleeding speed to out turn you. The good flanker sticks know when to use the maximum turn performance and the tight turn radios only when necessary. For example there is a guy (forgot his sig) that instead of trying to get me on a single turn he would decend below me and do a loop arround 800km keeping more energy than me without getting killed by my tighter turn; after that he would repeat the loop but this time he had the advantage because he had better energy and angle to get me while I was slower. This stuff is like kung fu; you have to flow like water and adapt to the situation to hit with the force of a wave:weight_lift_2: -

so the p-42 had half the climb performance of the eagle? -
Multiplayer is a bit more challenging because the unpredictability factor of the mission planners and the bad guys flying CAP. But it is very rewarding; I'm not an expert but when I fly the frog on-line I try to avoid using a straight path to the targets specially when there is fighters around. When I get close to the target; maybe around 27km from targets (if cap fighters are not close) I go up to 3000m that way I'm harder to get to iglas and other infrared missiles; then I start scanning around looking for targets; it is not easy though; but that is the cool part! Also you need to prioritize targets; sometimes it is better to kill the SAMs with anti-radiation missiles and then go after shorter range SAMs. Also play close attention to urban areas and roads; most of the times that is where nasty SAMs hide; avoid overflying this areas if you are close to the target; READ the briefing; most of us don't read it; that is why we get killed more often; Do you think that real pilots just jump in the cockpit ala Iron eagle and start banging and blowing stuff? Also try to cooperate with more experienced players.

104th Server R-77 For Su-27 & MiG-29G NATO Mod!
mikoyan replied to 104th_Crunch's topic in Multiplayer
Yoda; I'm takIng my first steps on leaning code; but I'm a bit better on 3dmax (I'm actually a graphic designer); maybe I can start working on the 3d Instruments; oh... and what would be the poly and texture parameters required? I did a 3d wood plank for a design company using paparvision 3d pluging for 3dmax; maybe your idea works the same? I didn't do the coding though. Let me know if we can start working on something.... now that I think about it we would need some reference about how the russian displays work!; I got a su-27 on a word document on Engrish with some illustrations; we could use that. One last thing; since I'm going to be working on a new website for myself; maybe we could mount a blog about the project. Let me know what do I need to learn or what can I do to help.
