Hi, Once I get a profile made up and get the basics down, how do I transition to Flaming Cliffs? I have LockOn Platinum and both are installed, including Flaming Cliffs. What is the process to fly to Flaming Cliffs? Will my profile here, function seamlessly there or will I have to recreate a profile there to? I have maybe 2 hours total flying a Su-33 in Flaming Cliffs. That is all I know about Flaming Cliffs. Thanks.

Hi, Somebody else wrongly tagged it. Thanks for the info and links. And thanks for letting me know the manual is OK. That manual I got from Amazon by way of somewhere out in Missouri, USA. Can't wait for the one you guys will create for Warthog. Nice job!

Hi, I have CH Products: Fighterstick; Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals. Know of a CH Products Profile I could use? I have Capt_Crunch's I got off of CH Hangar. If I use it I will modify it. I modified the profile Kon gave me for Warthog. I figure I will tough it out and create my own. I had to create one for Aces High now that I have CH Control Manager setup for Warthog. All the CH profiles were too dated to be practical to use at Aces High, their latest upgrades. I will experiment with your idea. <edit> Crap! your profile is right there. I am brain dead this morning. Thanks :pilotfly:

It comes down to this: just how bad do you want it? Learning Warthog was no picnic. I expect learning Black Shark to be at least as challenging. More fun than watching TV. I was on my SeaBee base in Gulfport, Mississippi in 1974. I was walking around the base over by the utility, support area. I saw this weird machine and later I learned it was an engine lathe for metalworking. I said to myself I want to learn how this thing works. Within a couple years of doing my 6 year hitch I was training with a tool maker, not just learning how a lathe works, but everything in the tool room. Just depends how bad you want it. You will find a way, to that end.

As of this past week of July 31, 2011, today, I have no problem installing 1.0.0; then 1.0.1c; then 1.0.2. Except for a few annoyances, I may go learn the Russian language. And to use the training tutorials, 1.0.2 has to be uninstalled. But the training tutorials function OK in 1.0.1c . I wonder if Babel-Fish will work within the cockpit? I also can go back to MY DOCUMENTS stash to retrieve the 1.0.2 patch again, the .exe setup file and it reloads just fine. Use Administrator privileges in Compatibility when right clicking Properties.

Hi, That will be some challenge for the programmers, I bet. I do not know the programming and testing of the how-to, but your plate must be to overflow what is done by such a limited staff of guys as to overseeing FC, redoing Black Shark to mesh with Warthog, working out the bugs to Warthog, and developing a new, next aircraft for the DCS engine. I wonder how many people appreciate your effort? Thanks

Hi, (I am a total noob here with this Black Shark sim.) As to the metal spiral bound book: Page 12-10 gets to the actual start-up procedures to prep the aircraft for Left engine start-up. Pages 12-2 through 12-8 include, I am assuming, are the pre-flight setup. Is this true as to a cold, ramp start-up on the tarmac to preset 10 pages of procedure before starting the engines? LOL, or is their a shorter way to the end of the yellow-brick-road? As with Warthog, 60 miles in transit to the target area, some stuff can be done in flight. Are there pre-made lists of procedures available to prep the aircraft for flight? Now off to read the Sticky's. Thanks.

I had to uninstall Patch 1.0.2 (temporarily for now), back to the Patch 1.0.1c to get access to the simulation's training tutorials. A pop-up message within the simulation popped-up telling me this. Seems an odd thing to do. I will be playing offline for awhile before ready for Multi-Player, anyway.

Special Hardware Considerations for Controlling a Helicopter Hi, I need to create a working profile .map for my CH gear using the CH Control Manager. I have a couple guys have donated, what they use, but it suits them, but they do not hold true to what I have read, so far. I was reading in the metal, spiral bound book today, Ka-50 Black Shark, published in 2009, the trim technique you describe is specific to the simulation, but not in real life, in the real aircraft. See page 13-10. If you have a Force Feedback joystick, supposedly one can mimic "the real aircraft, the cyclic remains in a trimmed position" . My question to the book is, it was published in 2009, probably written ready for print out in 2008. Has the game changed much since the book was written? Yes, I know, the latest patch, in their online manual should reflect any new changes. On page 13-11 it says, "It is highly recommended that you use some sort of rudder input device for controlling the helicopter direction. Three possible ways include: Rudder Pedals or A twisty grip joystick (in so many words) or Assigning the X-axis of a throttle mini-stick as the rudder control " (end of quoted book material) . I want to create a .map profile to mimic closely my Warthog setup but stay true to the helicopter sim. I am just absorbing information and currently experimenting. Thanks to all for critiquing me and offering advice. Thank you for your training video. BTW, I went to YouTube to find the rest of the series. :pilotfly:

Hi, I agree. My Warthog CH Control Manager .map profile I got as a freebie from KonKuSSion. He was most gracious to lend me the results of his hard efforts, back about March this year. But, his profile, is full sim and no game shortcuts at all. I learned Warthog the hard way. I am still learning and will be doing so for some time to come. So, when out looking for targets, it is pretty much realistic and no use of the GUI manual's target shortcuts. I kind of miss that. Eventually, with Black Shark that is my goal, but the GUI shortcuts are nice to play with in the beginning and less intense, starting at page 30. I play 3 sims currently online. My biggest fear at age 59 is work overload, memorizing each planes different set of instructions. But I am finding it is not as much a brick wall as I had anticipated. Each .map profile is different using my CH Products trilogy. But it is just repetition. I fly a Warthog mission sortie daily. Aces High and Warthog, I map my trim buttons the same using the Fighterstick's HAT. I play Aces High out of Texas about 4 years; DCS: Warthog since February; and now DCS: Black Shark. I still wish to learn some aircraft in Flaming Cliffs. I am actually working backwards as most you guys came up using Lock On and the betas. I have not. I am so deaf, driving car, I once turned the radio volume control to turn up my wife's voice volume, not thinking, just did it. That got a good laugh. The radio was off. Where did that action come from? Thanks for the advice.

What is a Cheksum Utility and What are md5-hashes?
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, So I am assuming programmers deliberately put these items into modules of code. What do you guys use to read them to check the integrity of your work? -
I received the spiral bound manual today. I will do the game tutorials and go from there how to map my gear. I figure to learn in Game mode 1st, then somewhat relearn in Realistic mode later. I took out an in flight, Game mode mission and managed to kill a mess of moving gvs and anti-aircraft units from a distance in hover, while I had wingman kill the area bandits. Man, some difference from the DCS Warthog, but fun I bet. My Betty is an Izzy and speaking Russian, but I will do the suggested mod to get my English speaking lady friend. Thanks. :pilotfly:

I see the keyboard key, letter "T" trims the helicopter in some way, named, "Trimmers" . Is it possible to setup my CH Products, "Fighterstick" as to the HAT button to setup trim like I do with the A-10C Warthog as a 4-position HAT, left, right, up, down trim ? Thanks for any help or critique. :pilotfly:

Hi, (This topic came up in the DCS Black Shark forum, my Message #9 to this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=77444 I ask it again here for maybe better coverage by educated people, including EtherealN.) I am totally ignorant of this subject. Would you mind elaborating or enlightening me as to what a checksum is and what the program does? Do not go nuts as to too much detail, just enough basics so I may proceed with the utility. http://www.fastsum.com/press/md5-hash.php I cannot be the only one that has encountered this situation with the 1.0.2 Patch in English, a Russian guy speaking comments and English written subtitles. If I do not run this patch in, "Run as Administrator" a whole mess of errors are reported starting up and I cannot even open the OPTIONS menu. Thanks for any help. :pilotfly:

Best Way To Acquire New Purchase and Manual ?

Hi, With this patch 1.0.2, the English download, in cockpit I get a guy speaking Russian, but with upper left corner English translation in words/sentences. I find it very annoying. With the original patch 1.00 and the 2nd patch 1.0.1c I get somebody speaking in English. This is playing single player, not online and in GAME mode. Am I doing something incorrectly? Everything is "Run as Administrator" . Ideas? Thanks :pilotfly:

Best Way To Acquire New Purchase and Manual ?
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi, I did not deliberately install into Program Files. When I ran the setup.exe program, that is where I found it. But I did have the option to move it. Since writing this earlier, I went to my Firefox, went to DCS HOME where the 1.0.1c patch is, entered my user-name and password and downloaded that patch. That works OK. <edit> I just did the same for the 1.0.2 patch and same missing files and problem occurred. I changed to Run as Administrator under Compatability and good to go, now. All that extra work for a stupid forgetful omission. I used to play the Microprose sim, "Gunship" which was realistic enough in the 1980's, on my Commodore-64. That was fairly realistic given the computer technology then. Thanks so much for the advice. I will look at what you have suggested. A lot I do not know concerning computers and separately, the gaming world as to the utilities available. I know all about "Run as Administrator" and still forget to do it. Now to figure out how to build a CH Controls profile. Thanks. Erich :pilotfly: -
Best Way To Acquire New Purchase and Manual ?
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi, I tried to purchase the sim on the DCS "HOME" site here to the e-Sales or whatever they named it, using Firefox. I could not get it to work to purchase it, so I downloaded it anyway. Under the false assumption, I thought maybe because I purchased Warthog in February, maybe that serial number would suffice. Not! I downloaded it to Windows 7 Ultimate-64 bit. It placed itself in C:\Progams (x86) for 32-bit programs. Got thinking about it the next day, so I went to Windows Internet Explorer version 9 and did the process and purchased it through DCS using IE9 and purchased it with credit card online, no problem at all. Then with serial number in hand, immediately downloaded the game, version 1.00 . I put everything I had already downloaded temporarily in the Recycle Bin. The operator's manual I purchased through Amazon.com several days before, should be here July 29, 2011. The Black Shark version 1.00 works just fine offline. I saved the two files to a folder in MY DOCUMENTS. Downloading the multiplayer version 1.0.2 I encounter both in the offline and also the multiplayer desktop shortcuts, many errors, missing .lua modules (files) and I cannot get into OPTIONS. So, I went into Windows Control Panel to uninstall the version 1.0.2 (which I also have a separate MY DOCUMENTS folder, uninstalled that, too). And reinstalled Black Shark 1.0.0 version. The original version works just fine, so far, as I am extremely a noob at Black Shark. One thing I have noticed is: a lot of the same Warthog keyboard commands are identical in Black Shark. My CH controls work in GAME mode. I did not try REAL mode, yet. (I fly Warthog in full REAL simulation mode due to the limitations of the CH profile I use.) And I have the CH Products trilogy which I need to setup, yet and hopefully find a good profile pre-made. I know the CH Control Manager process of creating my own map as I did it for Aces High. But, I am still learning the CH setup process. I still play Aces High as I like their big azz server and hundreds of players to fight. As to Black Shark version 1.0.2 , I will keep experimenting. I have a few ideas. As I was initially downloading it in IE9, I was off doing something else in Firefox. Maybe that caused some kind of conflict. So, I will reload it 1st through IE9. If that doesn't work properly, then I will uninstall it and try through Firefox. Also, I wonder if version 1.0.1 needs to be downloaded 1st before 1.0.2 . I read one of the Stickys that downloading version 1.0.1 first was not necessary to do. I know I can go to the online servers in version 1.0.2; I got that far, but for some reason the server moderator bounced me out. I just went to Multiplayer mode to look around. I had no intention to fly, just yet and cause no deliberate mischief or any mischief. As to Warthog, I think some of the moderators know who their team-mates are and are setup for their squad. In Warthog I have only found two squads to fly with that are genuinely friendly for noobs. Warthog I do pretty good. I just wanted a change. Thanks for help already and any future help and advice. I have been doing DCS: Warthog since its 1st new purchase around March 2011. Now, I would like to try the helicopter, preferably in English. I want a good quality purchase of the game and its spiral bound operator manual. I live in New York State, USA Also, I have 3 hard drives on my i7-920 machine: one is Windows 7 Ultimate-64 bit; one is Windows 7 Home-32 bit; and one will soon be partially Windows XP Professional version. What would be the best way to install the game? Time is of no real importance, so I figure a direct purchase from DCS. A CD would be nice, but the English version is an online download it looks to be. Does this include the latest patch update? Does the operators' manual mail from England? Or is their a better source for USA purchasers? Thanks for any help. :pilotfly:

Hi, It is a good idea to follow http://www.AskWoody.com/ before doing Windows Update. At the very least, before accepting any update, create a restore point so at least you have a recourse to hopefully get back to where you were before allowing the update. This assumes you have Restore turned on. There is a blog out there called, "Windows Secrets" that may have answers for you concerning bad updates.

I know who took a point away from me. I thought it was unfair and childish. I asked a fair request, fair as to any other forum I have ever attended. But then again, I don't care. I avoid the guy and his server. I quit posting so much, and rethought the friendly community I thought I had encountered here. A few guys have been very helpful to me here at DCS, both on the the forums and the staff programmers.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
ErichVon replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Any plane, carrier (CV) based, and a good CV with approach lights and cables to land on. Modeling the CV to DCS standards would be enough of an effort all by itself. -
I do not know what this is. Please explain. Thank you. Erich
