  1. I am not really a hard core gamer. And I am self taught, I am not college educated as to the computers. So, there is a lot I still do not know. The motherboard I got from Newegg was the same batch a guy bought 30 to build and resell, whatever the term is called as a guy builds machines to sell. I read this in their forum like question/answer about this cpu. He was overclocking his boards and burning them up. Soooooooooooooo I am a bit leery about overclocking it. I have run this machine for 11 months, now as is, without hardware issues. But I have never even come close to running it near capacity until this sim/game. I am not much of a fan for the single shooter games out there, just flight sims and the Yahoo! machine shop groups. I actually got an "out of memory" Windows warning I never have gotten until running specifically Warthog A-10C. I have Ed Botts big book, "Windows 7 Inside Out". I used what he recommended to set the paging file to 9GB and that error has not occurred again. Thanks for the reply. Erich :pilotfly:
  2. Me, too! Is it possible to get it back up flying to target zone? Nice thing about flying a sim like Aces High, those planes are basic WWII aircraft, therefore no 2011 avionics, just basic fly by the seat of your pants in usually a no turbulence environment, so getting home to land it, is the F10 map, and compass and is all I need in full sim mode. The big hassle is: how to fire the weapons without the MFCDs? I give up and RTB. After landing, I counted a hundred little bullet holes from AAA and panels were missing. Best tactic to a good mission is do not get too close to SAMS and AAA. In real life I bet a real fighter pilot has a backup radio he could use to get home in his survival vest. That guy that landed the jet in the Hudson River used to be Top Gun type of guy instructor at the company's simulator. Those real life sims and the failures they practice that rarely happen, do pay off, when they do occur. I used to know a guy that flew the 747 and the sim time was mandatory to re-qualify for his license. Well, my take on this sim game, is, it is still in beta working out the bugs and the programming typos. LOL! Erich :pilotfly:
  3. I am not a real life pilot, just a sim one. Years ago, to Hershey Park's gardens (Pennsylvania) I was watching real pilots land on the airport runway not very far away. That day it was very windy. I watched them land for an hour while wife was having fun with the flowers. Every propeller plane coming into land, came in really fast, into the wind, faster than a typical "nice day" landing. Erich :pilotfly:
  4. (This question is specific to DCS Warthog A-10C.) I am getting major off-line game stutters in MISSIONS with lots of AI running. My i7-920 runs less than 20% and RAM runs 50 to 90%. I set my paging file for 9GB. i7-920 @ 2.66GHz; 6GB 1600 DD3 RAM; power pack is 700 watts Cooler Master's Silent Pro; PNY nVidia GTX 260; Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit; Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard (not overclocked). Machine was about $2000 in parts from http://www.Newegg.com I have been running the video card in its PREVIEW function in Control Manager. I tried both the Performance and separately, the Quality settings. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What do I need to set up the MANAGE 3D SETTINGS function to get maybe better performance? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How? There are a mess of settings. SEARCH (ED Forums): "nVIDIA Control Panel" ================================ http://forums.eagle.ru/search.php?searchid=3396811 I also have an ATI Radeon HD 5770 card not installed. I also have an identical GTX 260 card, also not installed, because 2 cards at 700 watts are insufficient according to PNY. ---my 1st scratch built build---I did my best... Might do it: Think I will build another, but better gaming machine and use this one to replace my Pentium 4 Dell. Or get that company in Richmond, Virginia to build me one. Advice? Erich :pilotfly:
  5. Ah, that is why the electrical diagram is included in the big manual, to figure out the circuit breaker pathways. I used to buy the big repair manual for any car until they went CD and upped the price from $30 for the book compared to $125 for the CD, when I got my 2003 Grand Am new. Everything is in those car tech books. Erich :pilotfly:
  6. Hi, Yes, I found those, last night, him replying to a different post, I saw them in his signature. They now reside in my Documents stash. Thank you, and thanks for the DCS Wiki link. Been wondering where to find the airport elevations for the altimeter. Erich :pilotfly:
  7. Page 586 in the big flight manual explains a single engine landing and around those pages, a belly-wop landing also. I can assume an engine fire means no relighting engine is possible? Never assume. I will experiment. Erich :pilotfly:
  8. Commodore Pet, 32 and 64 used cassette tape player before they developed a hard drive. Well, your statement dates you... LOL Just think of the days when any program I used was typed in! Erich :pilotfly:
  9. Yes. Last night on one of the Multiplayer servers I bailed almost on top of the SAM site support vehicles. I walked over, safe distance and watched them fire off stuff and also get destroyed. In FC pilot can run using the Ctrl+Z key or might have been in this original game here before the patches. I use my joystick and various F keys and View keys to look around. Pilot needs a .45 with bullets and a radio to call for the Jolly Greens. Also, if pilot had a LASER designator, he could light up the enemy vehicles for laser guided bombs. LOL Erich :pilotfly:
  10. Not quite to topic, but related. For what ever reason, I find myself in the grass just shy off the runway, usually tires are shredded, (Firestone tires I bet). I have found (in full sim mode): ===================== Shut off engines completely, as to a reverse start-up procedure. Get in F2 and watch. In about 5 minutes the gear comes back to all wheels on in a smokey, white cloud. Usually any damage gets repaired. Do not know if this is true on all scenarios or airfields. I do a ramp-startup, rev up engines, I can taxi back onto concrete, go to the tarmac area to rearm and refuel. But I cannnot move it, even with 100% full throttle UNTIL the TAD map comes up! Once up, taxi to ramp and rearm. Bug? Saw a guy do this last night on one of the servers. But he did not know how to do a ramp startup. He landed missing a right side wheel, went into the grass. In 5 minutes all was good. Erich :pilotfly:
  11. Belly-wop = gear up because busted undercarriage. Landing with just one wheel down, not too smart. Busted should be broken for the English teachers in here. Me racist? In here on a public forum? Are you nuts? Instant ban for life on most any forum I have ever used. No. I learned the term belly-wop doing improper dives in a New York swimming pool out on Long Island. Smarts like heck from a 15 foot diving board. Erich :pilotfly:
  12. I'm not going into specifics. It is not a big issue for me. They are there, like learning how to use cannons. The Start-Up procedures could be better, but it works. I start out with the tutorials, read the manual and experiment on tarmac or in the air or ask questions to A-10C Forums. Eventually, I figure it out. I make the best of it, and get out of the tutes what I need as a noob. The game/sim is pretty good. Erich :pilotfly:
  13. Go to where you purchased it online. They have a support section to ask for help. Write it up, send it. A guy named Tev answered me several times on issues not answered here to forums. It will take a couple days for a response either or both to your user name here or to your e-mail address. I'm not real good on short term memory as to exactly what I did, but that is the process. I must have tossed the reply to get into Forums. I could not write to Forums. Tev unlocked it on his side, instead of sending me another one. He allowed me in. Like that. I would also say make sure you have your game controllers profile saved before taking an upgrade or risk doing it all over again. In C: , I have the address where they are located Erich :pilotfly:
  14. Can the altimeter, at start-up, be set for the altitude of the airbase one starts out from? Important question if doing ILS landing. If so, How? Erich :pilotfly:
  15. This is a, "why don't you try it and see what happens question". Are belly landings on an airstrip survivable? Do you still get scored for your sortie if you do? Can you land dead-stick on a flat grassy area? Thanks. Erich :pilotfly:
  16. Any chance of getting inside a tank or whatever to drive it and use it to fight with, like to Aces High? I didn't think so... Erich :pilotfly:
  17. What is the process to fly back to base on just one engine? I put the fire out in the left engine and headed towards the closest friendly airbase. I started the APU Generators back up, but eventually decided they were not needed. Went to the Emergency Control Panel and unlocked some stuff off hydraulics. Got just about back and somebody took their server down---pissed me off! What is the procedure? Page number? Links? Etc. ? I'm still a newb, figure I will be 4 to 6 months. All I did was go checkout a railroad or pedestrian truss bridge in the war zone. I heard a thud like a bird strike. I went to F2 and saw I was on fire. I realize I went in too close. I prefer playing on a realistic, online sim, like to S77th Kon's. Where everything one does is total sim and no GAME shortcuts. But I do both, using the same Kon A-10C profile. Wish you guys had a 100 player online server, total battle. Checked out FC servers last night. Everybody is over there. But the A10 in FC is not mapped the same. I got the ramp start up down to about 5 to 10 minutes. I can do basic navigation. Landing is easy enough. Not sure if I'm doing Countermeasures correctly but did the tute and read about it. I just learned how to setup the cannon. Now starting the Maverick. I watch guys use the Maverick to kill machine gun nests. Don't think I'd do that in real life---CO might get pissed. You guys need a scoring system to compete against---I want the Battle E award. LOL Erich :pilotfly:
  18. Hi, In real life, of course as you say. In game, kind of silly, if one cannot fix system failures. I did research all the .pdf manuals yesterday, doing searches. I did not find much in the way of explanation of the breaker panel other than it is there. I would think, though I may be mixing up between this game and FC, upon takeoff, I have lost an engine due to a bird strike. So, it is plausable for the sake of realism, that any component could fail at any time. I'm too new with this A-10C game to have much experience with it, yet. Erich :pilotfly:
  19. 3rd or 4th step in the start-up sequence. AUXILIARY LIGHTING PANEL Lamp Test Button on Left Console to test if cockpit caution lights all function. I noticed the huge panel of circuit breakers in front of the flight stick, on the floor (probably they are non-functional in the game). What to do if there is a light out somewhere? There are other such tests in the sequence. What to do to correct them? Seems to me, these steps are unnecessary unless there is a way to a solution to fix the problem. Might want to add a crew chief to fix stuff. (Just to fly around, all those steps are not necessary, even in full sim mode.) Erich :pilotfly:
  20. WWII USA pilots had them sewn into their flight jackets, in case they bailed behind the front lines. (For once, I type a TOO SHORT message and the editor complains?) LOL Erich
  21. I went to the page that said, I DID BUY THE BOXED VERSION. I bought the boxed version and if I wanted to push the issue from a legal standpoint, I should still get the boxed version. I paid for it already. The down-loadable modules are good enough. But I was expecting at least a CD mailed to me from England to my address here in NY State, USA. But as long as the download module files work with solvable solutions, I will not make an issue of it. I still want to do Blackshark DCS at some point in time, save my money for that. Erich
  22. Go to any working real life airport with a 2 wing bi-plane and watch how he or she does it. Kobelt Airport is just outside Walden, NY over near the village of Wallkill. Better yet, go talk to 'em. I keep pluggin' the flight sim Aces High---that's how its done on the 2 wheel tail draggers. Erich
  23. Does this mean I will be called a MAGGOT (again) as to the bottom rung of basic training? Steam? I'm going to have to do a Google. LOL Erich
  24. THANK YOU for the effort. A lot of good stuff within! Erich
