Yep! I have zero real life flying experience. I have not done Black Shark, yet. I bet that helicopter sim is tougher than Warthog. And 99% of the guys replying are respectful of the new guys. Take it in bite size chunks. You don't have to pay for your mistakes and you get more lives than a cat. Best to join an active squad with a few members to lean on for help. :pilotfly:

I downloaded DRAGONs "The_Dam" mission and was playing in Multiplayer on my own LAN. (I get more random failures flying this mission solo online than with a bunch of guys on another or their server. I am figuring still random failures occur but spread out over the various pilots flying so it is less likely to happen to me.) I took two SAM targets out from 20,000 feet or so. Full airbrakes about 250 mph to 8,000 feet, retracted air brakes looking for the convoy attacking the FARP flying too low. I took no hits, no damage---lost my HUD. CPU was at 19% on my 4 core system. RAM was at about 75% of 6 GB. My GTX 260 has just about 1 Gig of video memory. I do not know how much video ram I was using. I hit F2 and looked all over the aircraft, I saw no damage. I kind of did a quick browse search through the online manual but did not even find this failure. It might be in the manual, though. All I want to know is... Can I fix this HUD failure in flight? And if so, how? The analog flight instruments got me home OK. But it is rather hard to target ground targets without the HUD. So RTB. In another mission I totally lost all avionics from battle damage and still landed OK. Other posts I found here, but no solution: =========================== http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=60125&highlight=Lost+HUD http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59144&highlight=HUD+Failure Advanced Search: "HUD Failure" (without the quotation marks) ========================================= http://forums.eagle.ru/search.php?searchid=3490885 :pilotfly:

I have been playing "The_Dam" mission online in MultiPlayer mode hit and miss for a couple of weeks. I was wondering how to find this mission. Asked around and found your mission pack in the MISSIONS folder in ED forums, under advanced search, I input DRAGONs. I found your training pack and also the missions pack. I downloaded "The_Dam" .miz module into my Warthog single player Missions folder through the C:\Program Files\ path , in My Computer. Then as instructed as to your post, created the mission in Multiplayer LAN as my own entity and good to go. Thank you.

Hi, (I imagine ED has a specific folder for hardware issues. Please move this post there if it is not allowed to the GENERAL forum.) ACTUALLY, WOULD LIKE THIS POST MOVED TO THE PC HARDWARE Forum [Erich] EDIT: ==== Posted this a few days ago, I meant to say GTX 580 GPU instead of the GTX 280, in case anybody is reading this. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have been running my home-built PC with Asus P6T Deluxe V2 since last summer on one GTX 260 on a 700 watt CoolerMaster Silent Pro PSU. It requires 500 watts minimum, so I went a little bigger. I have two identical GTX 260 cards I want to try in SLI. I think the 700 watt PSU will be underpowered. I may later venture to the GTX 580 and I see Cibit runs his at 1.1 KW PSU. I guess this is sufficient to run the GTX 580? Is it sufficient to run two GTX 260's in SLI? =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= ALSO: ===== If you guys in similar setup, what do you guys use for a battery backup unit? My Silent Pro PSU is pure sine wave and APC wanted a lot of money for a battery backup unit to support my setup and not like their ES series units. I chose to just get the biggest joule surge protector I could find and phooey with the battery back up. =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= Anyway, the issue is sometimes stutters? And sometimes major lag in multi-ATI or team-mates around me, bullets, clouds, rain, snow. I 95% maxed out my 6GB of memory, so I just purchased and will soon add 6GB more tri-channel Corsair XMS DDR3 for Core i7 to 12 GB should be sufficient for awhile, as to a few years longevity as to my motherboard. Also going to add a Cooler Master : V8 cooler. And try overclocking Intel i7-920 @ 2.66GHz to about 3.2 Ghz. 3.2 Ghz is probably a safe start. Overclocking I do not know how to do, yet. I know it can be done in BIOS and the Asus Turbo utility and Intel is supposed to have a utility for this purpose also. Thanks for any positive help or advice. :pilotfly:

Hi, I consider me somewhere near idiot sometimes, especially this Warthog sim. Using the English terminology of idiot-proof and fool-proof terms are dependent upon the fact they (whoever THEY are) keep making better idiots or tend to evolve as we age. I have the Logitech G15 with 18 keys that can be setup in macro, 6 G-keys in 3 different modes. But I have not figured out how to do that, yet. I have wanted to use the G-keys as ways to add shortcuts similar to my CH gear mappings. Of which would be nice to have a way to setup Right Shift + Right Control + either 4, 6, 8, or 2 as a single button click (push) for interior cockpit view. I do like the LCD little output screen that keeps me informed in several various pages, including CPU and memory being used at the time and who is on, on TeamSpeak. I hope your tutorial helps me. If not, I bet your idea will be embellished more as hopefully this thread grows. Thank you for the effort. :pilotfly:

A-10 HOTAS keyboard diagram & memorization
ErichVon replied to apd1004's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hi, Anything anybody does is usually worthwhile here. Thank you. B_U_T ever play the Microprose sims? Boxed editions, whatever game, and there were a few, had a keyboard cut out overlay that made it very easy with my Commodore 64. Cannot remember if they had them for my IBM 386. LOL :pilotfly: -
Me too, I do not remember my setup exactly, but my nosewheel setup fine tunings are both within CH Control Manager and then also in Warthogs Options Controls as to curvature and dead zones not being default. As well as I did a little fine tuning to my Fighterstick's X and Y settings. I setup both engines to one throttle and not split separately. I found separating them difficult in various applications. I read a lot to forums and various squad forums for ideas and ask stupid questions. :pilotfly:
-
I concentrate 100% this game only. The Flaming Cliffs control mappings are not the same and I tend to get mentally mixed up as it is, as to various proper sequences within A-10C. For me it is just repetition until it is learned, like disassembling and reassembling a M-16 rifle blindfolded. I don't touch the steering (CH Pro Pedals) and pinkie switch on my (CH Pro Throttle) until the very last thing I do before I taxi. I have noticed, especially at night, the taxi light moves from sideways to front centerline when I engage the pinkie switch and the dashboard light comes on. It actually, usually, takes a lot of initial engine thrust just to move it, to start it rolling. I use KonKuSSioN's CH (.map) profile. I also use his cold, ramp start checklist. And I only fly in SIM mode. I fly online a lot, the no password servers and two password-ed servers. And offline. I do need to practice weapons offline to perfection more. I have a lot of hours invested but combat ops and its how-to I do not know much, yet. But I will, in time. I am really good at ejecting! Of course, it seems, each new patch changes things, so advice on the 2nd patch may not necessarily benefit the 3rd patch that is coming out soon. And not all PC systems are the same as to identical outcomes. I think it matters as to what gear you have and online, what Internet connection you have. :pilotfly:

Having a hard time landing without blowing tires
ErichVon replied to reschke's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I agree. And combat conditions where nme (enemy) is flying about on final may need a more drastic approach as to a high speed, curving descent from up high, full speed brakes and straighten out the last couple of seconds. I have seen some guys do this here, including me. :pilotfly: -
Having a hard time landing without blowing tires
ErichVon replied to reschke's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
F4U has a really tough undercarriage as to CV landings. In Aces High the Spits were the worst for me to land correctly. You have to come in low angle and S_L_O_W! Go back to Aces High and get Spitfire landings down pat. Then come back here and excell at landings anyway. Few sim pilots in Aces High land very well; just sit back and watch them. This simulator, I land just a hair above stall speed, shallow angle, full flaps, toe brakes are on when I touch the concrete, air brakes are full on depending where but always over runway threshold. I do not blow tires. Not talking about a real plane in real life. Go out to a runway in F4/F2 and watch guys land. Interesting how most are not very good at it. :pilotfly: -
My Dilema- How do you Handle Your Time to DCS?
ErichVon replied to dne48's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
RETIREMENT!! LOL! I have lots of time. Yes, 100% A-10C, currently. I sleep once in awhile, usually right here in my chair. I try to get a two mile walk in daily. I eat once in awhile. Wife ack is the worst of it. At least I am home, she knows where I am. I'm not bowling on Wednesday nights, I'm not to the gun club target shooting, I'm not out in my boat fishing, I don't bar hop anymore (but I do suffer the consequences of doing so, but hey---no hangover), AND I am not doing Navy Reserve weekends and 2 week ACDUTRAs anymore. She has her girlfriend activities. I do miss my Navy buddies. Too much to remember as to doing any other sim currently. I played Flaming Cliffs about a week but I do not do so currently as the controls mappings are not the same as to DCS: Warthog. I miss the other game I played for 4 years. I still get mixed up doing the other game's keyboard key presses as old habits never die. Playing online in here is easy. At least I never get bounced from high above by an enemy plane---friendlies will do it, though. Playing online here is much the same as playing offline except when somebody decides to reset their server. You guys need a cumulative scoring system to compete against, though. Once I get rid of my DSL and get RoadRunner cable I may very well go back to Aces High---I miss it. This game is just not the same thing, not dynamic enough for me with an ever changing enemy both on the ground and especially in the air. I have not met anyone to DCS that used to do Aces High and quit Aces High cold turkey. Though one guy in my old squad there, is what got me interested here. This DCS: Warthog sim is way superior to FSX. I did hospital once for 8 days. I think I had withdrawal symptoms not doing the PC that long. LOL! :pilotfly: -
Hi, I usually do not have this problem on the ramp on a cold-dead start. My CH gear are mapped through Control Manager, then mapped again through the OPTIONS in CONTROLS. I use differential toe braking. I also fine tune within both after the initial mapping, especially the steering. Sometimes I may creep. I just hit and hold the "W" key without the quotation marks. Since it does not always happen, I wonder if it is an anomaly as to one or two specific maps in the game. For me, getting properly setup with my controls took about a month before ever doing anything with this sim game. You might consider using KonKuSSion's CH (.map) setup for CH gear. I modified his basic concept. I do not ever play in GAME mode. The (.map) will not allow that. I would venture a guess that you are doing something wrong. Happens a lot to me in every aspect of this game. Compared to all other sims since 1985 combined, DCS: Warthog is a tough go for me, the learning curve. Practice every available waking moment. At the moment this is the only game I am doing currently. [What I do miss is the big company owned (four) servers of over 200 players at once to Aces High (http://www.hitechcreations.com/) What you guys have and use as MULTIPLAYER online servers are a joke venturing as to ridiculous as to Air Warrior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Warrior), War Birds, Aces High, and others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game I like to fly online often. The current servers rarely allow that including the =Iron= never password'ed server. If one acts very badly on such a server, one will be banned for life as to the guys here to Warthog servers killing team mates. But Aces High sets their main board that all that gets killed is you and you end up back on the roster board or as in Aces High---back in the tower. "You" being defined as a team-killer, in this case.] :pilotfly:

How long did it take you to learn the A10?
ErichVon replied to Flacracker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Landing a plane, be it a PC simulator plane, once on the runway after landing, full speed brakes, I use right and left toe brakes the instant I hit the runway. Point I want to make, landing on a short runway, like the A-10C, X - weapons training area runways: employ up elevator at about 80 knots or so, additionally acts like a drag chute, will stop you plenty on a short runway without ending up in the grass. -

ErichVon replied to Flacracker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
There is the possibility, if you want to, Multiplayer, if the server is setup for it, to fight RED team against BLUE team. I do not know, but why not dogfight? Same plane fighting against same plane type. I know an air to air missle got me in Flaming Cliffs while I was concentrating on ground targets in an A-10. Only played FC about a week before coming to DCS. Having adequate air cover over the target area from team mates is essential if this sim gets fighter jets. I would like to see me having the capability of getting into any ground vehicle and be able to use SAMS or whatever weapon against enemy aerial threats. That would make this game even more fun. But I think the programmers already have a full plate. -

ErichVon replied to Flacracker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Mastered? Maybe a year, maybe. I want to do Black Shark some day... LOL (maybe in 5 years...) I had a squad leader watch me land my jet and said, "that was a good landing". From day one to that landing was probably two months of training and PC setup necessities. The other flight sim/game I used to play "Aces High" (hitechcreations.com) (I think that is the url) I could actually sit in a guy's lap, watching him fly the plane. This sim and F4/F2 a guy can crtique me if he wishes to. Mastery? I landed like a WWII aircraft the other day. I had zero avionics. No MFCDs, no HUD, no speed indicator, no altitude indicator. It was clear with a crosswind. I did have hydraulics. I did have the upper left landing speed indicator of too fast or too slow or just about right circle was functioning. I landed it perfectly. Taxied over to ramp, got fixed, I landed with full ordnance load, refuelled. You guys need a scoring system. Dropping ords are demerits. Landing with unspent arms is points earned. Aces High we were scored on every move we made. Then Ace of the Base is published that month. Scoring gives incentive to do better. Ask the real Navy pilots about scored carrier landings or aerial refuelling. Mastery to me is given a mission, complete the given task successfully. If you get damaged, too bad, complete the mission. If you have to die in the process doing so, so be it. Most of the guys my wife's uncle trained with, Marines, taking Sugar-Loaf on Okinawa died, just a a few survived it. He told me about it. I do not learn like most you guys learn. I have to see the whole thing before I can start putting it all together, be it piece by piece. I do know, flying too low, too close in this game is just plain stupidity, though fun to do finding targets for my team mates. LOL With my CH gear stick profile I can only play in full sim mode. Mastery in GAME mode is not mastery of much of anything to me. When something goes wrong, either as a in game planned mishap that just happens to occur or battle damage and like I lose my left MFCD. I want to know how to get my left MFCD to function on my right MFCD. If it is not in the manual as to a fix, I want to know how to fix it, preferably in flight and go back into battle. I now know the fix. So much to learn beyond the training tutorials and the manual. This A-10C thing is fun. -

You an English teacher? Different areas of USA use English terms differently as to meaning as well as the jargon variations of one specific trade (work) compared to other trades. Kinda beating a dead horse I think. Louisiana Cajun French English and Down East Mainers are good examples as to variations to USA English. Now compare to the various dialects of England, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, and Australia. Same word may have different meanings. Why I quit posting to the forums, mostly, is the mean-ness and trival crap as to your reply. Though 99% of the guys are usually cool. Since I posted start of the thread, I have done a couple gear up landings on purpose on concrete and in the grass. The jet performs quite well. On concrete, shut down, wait 3 minutes, all fixed up and taxi over to get refueled and rearmed. In the grass or on a beach, too bad they got it setup so the plane usually cannot move, once fixed. Would be nice if the game allowed the damaged jet to land on a roadway, shut down, wait 3 minutes and if enough fuel, takeoff to nearest airport.

Clear out your Joystick folder, clear out your OPTIONS CONTROLS pre-sets, re-map your stick is what I had to do to fix my problem. Your mileage may vary. I use CH gear. Erich :pilotfly:

Last night, around 10 PM New York time zone I was getting ping rates over 200. I went over and was booted off the 74th's server. That has never happened to me before in 5 years playing online games. Came in later, same server, about 3 AM my time I was running about 170. England / EU community there. The game in Texas I never exceeded 125 ping rate and 70 was typical for 4 years. Why the higher than my normal ping rates? I'm on DSL, 4 wire modular phone cable, Ethernet cable via DSL router Windows 7, 64 bit; i7-920 cpu, GTX260 on a 700 watt power pack, Asus P6T V2 motherboard, 6 gigs of 1600 ram I did make some changes to my Norton 360 Premium firewall, since. Not sure if this will help, but this is what I did to mine. I fine tuned my CH Pro Pedals in the CH Control Manager widget (sorry, don't remember its name) but it is like a modified sine wave curve; then I also fine tuned in the games OPTIONS, then CONTROLS area---you can fine tune it there, too in A-10C's game. It seems to compliment each other and not negate it. I find with rudder pedals, especially steering with them, bare feet is best, socks next best and no sudden moves. I velcroed my pedals to the linoleum floor with velcro sticky tape. If a rug, I'd get plastic sheet like to an office supply store. Or screw the velcro mating tape into the floor. I hit the steering button to off when I hit 80 knots, then if necessary, I use rudders to stay straight until nosewheel is off runway. I do not pull my stick back until I'm doing 160 knots or so. I do miss my old twisty stick for rudder control. Transitioning to pedals is not so easy. You should try Aces High's F-4U WWII era prop plane, taking off on the aircraft carrier while it is turning!! Are There Downloadable Missions To Add to Wathog ?

General Custer was the bottom of his class! I take that as a personal flame and I thought you guys here were better than that. I would expect same to Usenet, not here. -
FAA Health Exam for Civilan Pilot's License ?

Thank you. Erich :pilotfly: -
I am also just learning the weapons systems. Last night on somebody's server online, using the Maverick seeker's head, it was locking on false positives and I know this as I watched it fly to the locked on target in F6 missile view. I think TGP is the way to go. Erich :pilotfly:

I am interested in adding missions, either training or combat created by members, as down-loadable add-ons into the program folders as offline missions. Where would I find them for the DCS: A-10C Warthog ? (Figures I cannot edit the misspelled thread title!) Erich :pilotfly:

I read couple years ago, Afghanistan was/is about an oil pipeline from the Black Sea to the Indian Ocean is why we are there. Never will happen. Erich
