Get a Logitech G15 keyboard or similar or a programmable whatever-you-call-it (CH Products has one) and use the Ka-50's Options' Snapview that incorporates Left Windows button + Keypad numeral 5 will put the HUD right in your face, but you cannot zoom in or out. Man I love the Snapview features. I am not using TrackIR5 currently, though I do have it, just too much to learn. My older, slower PC, TrackIR5 took quite a frame-rate hit. I don't think this will be an issue with my new Alienware PC. Another game I sometimes play me using TrackIR5, there is a way to temporarily disable the TrackIR5 if you have an empty button on your controller and use the game's HAT view keys as it is easier at times using the HAT views. I do not know if that can also be done in the two DCS aircraft, I have not tried it, yet. The Warthog also has these 10 Snapviews features, though they are different views. I put the MFCDs right in my face, also. Realize I am just getting into combat weapon systems on the Ka-50. I do not know yet if I can aim my weapons using the Snapview HUD. Also, within the last 24 hours since I posted this, there are other views similar to the Snapviews that can be programmed using just one button. These views use Right Control button and the number-pad's numerals and these can be zoomed in and out prior to their use. I use both views as I have 18 programmable keys. And I figured out how to do a Macro as a one button Eject! on one of them, though this does not concern the HUD views. I play only in Ka-50 Sim mode; all the key possibilities are in Options/Controls. As an aside, the BS2 1.1.1.1 version's NVG "H" key can still be nicely adjusted using the appropriate 4 keys combination and put on a single controller button per each. There is adjustment for high gain and separately for low gain, but it does not adjust as good as the versions before. I do believe ED is aware of this issue.

I think it is pretty cool a tank I am firing on with cannons, and I miss it, knows enough to get out of the way and make it harder for this noob---me, to reacquire it.

I'll give it a go. Thanks.

The typical use of an optical gunner's sight in a USA helicopter is to be able to target the enemy as the pilot/gunner rotates his head about. Has anybody had any luck getting the TrackIR to function in this way with using the keyboard command, letter H or some kind of mod getting it to function in this way? Found this: ========

Black Shark: Ready Made Profiles for CH Products?
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi Capn_Crunch, I have been using your CH profile. It is quite well thought out. Took me awhile to get yours setup but it works great for the Black Shark 2, so far. There is lots to learn. I wanted you to know, thank you for the effort. Do you still fly the Black Shark? If so, what squad are you with? I suspect it is the 104th Phoenix group. I am in NY State. Where is the Phoenix server? I like low ping rates. Thanks. -
Hi, I am a bit behind the curve learning this thing since February 2012, BS2 . I can cold start her and fly her and rudimentary navigate with her. I just do searches and find stuff. Thanks for your keyboard map. Nice effort.

You will love this A-10C. It has everything FSX has in an aircraft, plus combat, except the extensive scenery. There is not much dogfighting, though, but FSX has none. I tried PM'ing you, but not sure you got it; so... I was on those pages, I just did not see it. I played this sim last year for a little while, but my PC was not up to it. About a month ago I came back to both the Warthog and the Black Shark to try again with a better PC. I forgot just about everything. I find if cold starting these things, I need to be doing it daily or pretty close to it and doing a sortie. Thank you, guys.

How do I switch the left MFCD to the right side and switch right MFCD to the left? Also if one is out, how do I get the other MFCD info to the one MFCD that is working? Yeah, I am reading the manual, have not found this, yet. I used to know how, but have forgotten.

What really messed me up was eventually realizing that the game comes with presets already mapped. I had to find the folder that was causing the conflict, set it aside and remap it, but 1st, I cleared all the presets in Options/Controls and in my case, full sim mode. It took me a month that and setting up my controllers. Make sure your joystick throttle or separate throttle(s) controller(s) are all the way back. That sure got me scratching my head once. I have CH Products gear. I first calibrate in Windows, then load up the CH_Manager and then calibrate my setup within that. Just getting setup is rather intense. There is a proper sequence of plugging in the controllers, which off hand I have forgotten, but it is in my notes. The cheat offline is Right Windows key + the Home key will start the process to completion, sit back, and watch. If that is not working I would say something is wrong in your setup.

I found the problem creating the new profile for the A-10C Warthog using the Logitech G15 G-keys keyboard. Creating a new profile, click the "Profile" drop-down, then "New", I used "Browse" which I used my desktop shortcut for both profiles. This same setup box has a box to check to "Lock profile while game is running" . Well, uncheck it before creating a new profile. That was the problem. I was playing around with the G15's little LCD screen utility and I unlocked the padlock it had there. The G15 is limited to 3 modes of 6 G-keys of 18 possible presets. I can program them with any of the DCS' keyboard keystroke combination of commands. In Warthog I can put the MFCD's right in my face, zoomed in, and ditto the similar screens in Black Shark. Nice! I have to look into the ability to create more shortcut keys. I know CH_Products has gear to that end. I know nothing about how to program it, yet.

Is This Trim Thread Still Relevant in BS2?
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yes, I unchecked the box concerning the newer trim controller in BS2: Options\Misc. I have been using the older method of trimming, releasing the button and centering the stick within .5 seconds. I do have my CH Fighterstick too high. I need to figure out a way to place it on a pedestal between my legs, then I would have better control of the trimmer button. Hovering is still hard. I can fly it and navigate waypoints. And land it, but not land it on a designated pad, yet. It is coming slowly, step by step. Thanks for your reply. -
I play in full sim mode, both DCS sims. The A-10C I can fly, navigate to target area, blow stuff up with missiles, and usually RTB, even re-arm/ re-gas and go out again. I can now start-up the BS2 in about 10 minutes and taxi to the runway. Hovering, flying, etc. ? Ha, Ha, Ha! :megalol: If I start in the air, I last a little bit longer. Like I said, I am getting faster starting this sucker up and maybe ejecting out alive. Is this thread still relevant to BS2 as to trimming? It is rather dated. Thanks http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35444

In BS2, ED created SnapViews in Options\Controls. Further down the list, here, your questions have been answered. My message post here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86348 I do not know if this feature was available before the BS2 or A-10C 1.1.1.1 Upgrades. And I only play full sim mode so that is all I know. Even if using TrackIR 5, the Snapviews come in handy. In the other game I play, not DCS or LockOn, I can turn TrackIR On/Off with a button. Have not tried that here, yet. :pilotfly:

I have had this Logitech G15 keyboard since I built my 2nd PC two years ago. I purchased it at my local Best Buy for about $100 USA. I did not know how to program the G-Keys or anything about it, but it has other nice features I use. I got into Internet side, gaming / sims in 2007. So, I do everything solo, learning and fixing and doing, but I am a bit behind the curve compared to most of you guys. I was playing around randomly doing various key-presses and combinations and accidentally came across the SnapView features of the number keypad, recently in DCS: Warthog. But, my 1st attempt programming the G-Keys successfully was with the Ka-50 Black_Shark 2 on this past Sunday. It took about 3 hours farting around until I figured it out. Macros did not work out well, but entering the keyboard multiple key presses works fine for me on my new, 3rd PC. Realize, I know squat about this stuff. Macros, scripts, etc, is all stuff I do not know about. So I created a separate profile for the A-10C. I did it the same way and kaput---doesn't work! YET! I will figure it out, eventually. I wanted to let you guys know the G15 is doable in DCS. And most likely, all the newer Logitech keyboards of a similar nature will also work. I found 3 old threads here in this forum doing a search, concerning same. I will look around some more and do a Google search also and hit the Logitech forum. (I figured out how to do a one button Eject! Eject! Eject! using a Macro. Just do put that single button in a place not often used, or oops! LOL! ) :pilotfly:

Hi, I am referring to the Message #1, original top of thread message with the "Beginner" and "Pro" .pdf checklists: Very nicely done. Yes, it is dated, but it works for me starting out with the Black Shark 2. I have never really gotten the hang of this helicopter in full sim mode. I used the newer training videos and customized the lists. The spreadsheet type layout is just what I have been looking for. I found the thread doing a search within the forums. Thank you for your extensive effort.

Black Shark 2.0 Training Videos and Text Question
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi, That works nicely. So far, it loads into the Training folder. Thank you. -
I only play in full sim mode either A-10C or Ka-50. I think the helicopter is much more of a challenge than the A-10C Warthog. The only other helicopter sim I have played was the Microprose "Gunship" (Apachie) for my Commodore 64 back in the 1980's; and learning that was a challenge at the time, fun, though. The DCS: Black Shark is at least 10 times more difficult to learn than Gunship was and by a factor of 10 is probably an under-rating. But me at age 60, I am sure has something to do with my slow learning progress. Enjoy your youth, it gets worse! A-10C is a slow learning curve and I am still playing with that, too. I just bought a much faster PC, Alienware, around Christmas, 2nd generation i7 CPU, dual SLI mode, a dual RAID Array0, and overclocked at 3.9GHz. I came back to DCS in February 2012. I have not played since September last year and it took a few days to remember the manual startup process and I have the Maverick down. I use TGP to locate my target, then switch to the Maverick. I managed 3 Mavericks to 3 different rolling targets before I turned around. I still need to learn the other weapon systems. I use Konkussion's .map for my CH gear trio. I did a Google search and he was top of the list. He was very helpful and friendly. What makes Black Shark really difficult is I have CH Products gear. I use the CH Control Manager. I found to CH Hanger, Capn_Crunch's .map which just setting the Controls up in Options is quite a task. If I ever can leave the ground for 5 seconds into a hover will be quite an accomplishment. I like Dragon's MissionPack using the A-10C Warthog, but it only runs in Multiplayer. I play it in my own LAN in Multiplayer because the other Internet servers keep bouncing me off whether they reset their setup or whatever. It really ticks me off, I play in sim mode so on the server it usually is setup with no shortcuts. I get myself to the target area and then just like that somebody resets the program. I setup my LAN, solo, just for me, in Multplayer; I can play all day without anybody pestering me. Yesterday my ping rate in LAN was 16. My ping rate in an Internet server is usually around a 100 to 150 ping rate using somebody else's server. Any higher ping rate is just to slow for me and my DSL only runs at less than 4 Mega Bytes per second download speed broadband. Come September 2012 I will be able to switch to cable Internet that runs at around 30 mega bytes per second download that should make life a bit easier in Multiplayer mode. USA, FCC, I think limits the USA broadband output. I know one guy in Europe here runs at around 100 mega bytes per second download speed broadband. I love DCS. Just keep making new planes or helicopters to buy. I would like to see the Apache Gunship. :pilotfly:

KA-50 Black Shark 2 Training missions
ErichVon replied to BigfootMSR's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I have them all downloaded into my Missions listing in 2.0 . I am currently doing the cold start-up for the Black Shark. Thank you sir for these tutorials. -
I downloaded the .miz Training files into my MISSIONS folder in C: , all that looked interesting. I am currently working on start up using the file titled, KA-50 Black shark2 cold start up training mission Thank you BigfootMSR for creating this very helpful utility. I have the 2009 copyright, "Ka-50 Black Shark" book, ISBN: 978-0-9561836-0-6 . I found it on Amazon.com last summer. This utility tutorial and this book's Chapter 12 Checklists are a nice marriage. Is there some way to put the training videos into the Training folder? http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/video/bs2-training/ Probably not except the material guys like Bigfoot create. I noticed within the Training folder under the Missions folder there are 22 lessons listed as .trk files, all dated, various dates in 2009, but I do not see how to access them. Since I put the 2.0 upgrade, over the 1.0.2 upgrade, over the 1.0.1 upgrade maybe these files are empty shells from the 1.0.1 version, but they do show they contain info kilobytes of various sizes. I do not see how to access these tracks. Any plans to eventually resurrect these training lessons into the sim?

Want to Purchase New BS2, but Which Version?
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi, That worked very well. I did exactly as you stated to do. I did it backwards, though. I downloaded #3 .bin. then #2 .bin, then #1 .bin; each were 90 minute downloads. Then I downloaded the .exe setup program. I did it this way so the files werre stacked .exe, 1, 2, 3 and all put in a dedicated folder for the 2.0 (1.1.1.1) upgrade. Once I knew the program worked out ok, I then purchased the $19.95 key. Afterwhich the purchase took me directly to the proper download page. I have dedicated folders for each upgrade in MY DOCUMENTS, Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, stash. I back them all up, one by one, in order, on a big capacity thumb drive. I printout all the document receipt pages and put them in dedicated folders in my filing cabinet. All is good, unless my house burns down. Thank you. Also to the others that offered advice, thanks. <S> -
I have Ka-50 Black_Shark, the initial purchase 1.00 last July and the two patches to 1.0.2 currently. It looks like since the new version 2.0, there is a patch to 1.1.1.1 All I need is the $20 Upgrade. Is the item top of this page what I need to purchase? http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=1322&scr=shop&lang=en - OR - On the Download page it says 4 different installers: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=135&scr=products&lang=en Which one to purchase? I am a bit confused... Thanks for any help.

You could use a Mustang in the current map. Weapons it could use are bombs and rockets and 6-.50 caliber machine guns. The other sim I play is Aces High http://hitechcreations.com/ to get an idea of its use. During Viet Nam, USA used a propeller, fighter/attack aircraft as forward air observer and support for air rescue. I think it was CV, Navy aircraft carrier based. It was bigger than the Mustang. ED should find a German plane it could dogfight with 109 or 190. I'd like to see the F4U Corsair modeled here if you guys continue WWII era. F-86 Sabre and a Mig of that era too, Korea, would be fun.
