  1. I do have TrackIR, both sensors---1 with their black hat; the other with the clip to the headset and the latest version. I am still getting used to it. In Warthog, TrackIR slowed me down quite a bit, but maybe with FC being 32 bit maybe I will do better. I built this machine with an i7-920 chip and it is pretty fast, but not fast enough for DCS. Well, I am going to build a faster one pretty soon. This machine can replace my Pentium 4 Dell. I will still keep the Dell as standby, but not hooked up. It is nice to have another PC to use when building a new one. I like books. I find it hard to change. In machine shop I really had no problem accepting NC tape and later CNC and DRO on the mills (digital read outs), but all these new digital gadgets---I just can't keep up. I hate looking up machine shop supply items to purchase using an online catalog---I like hardcopy catalog.
  2. Hi, Yep, the air-brake warning light is right where you said it was. Heck of a way to find a good view of that warning lights panel, but I bet there is some key combination as to a better view of it. I will get me the book manual if I can find it somewhere, preferably a USA supplier. I really do not like the on-line manuals except I do like their search capabilities. Thank you.
  3. Some flight sim I flew years ago, I could launch 4 long range missiles, up to 4 independent targets, all done by radar and no visual reference and the missles were fire and forget. Maybe it was the F-14 Tomcat or F-117A; IBM 386, Microprose, DOS sims. I don't know if it is my age, I'll be 60 in November, or the brain hemorrhage I did about 10 years ago, but it all seemed simpler when I was learning and doing flight sims when I was younger. Now, it is such an effort, the learning process, but granted, the sims today are more complicated. I'm not complaining. I think it is good for the brain to always be learning new stuff and not too much TV watching.
  4. Hi, Better at: ========= Russian aircraft firing missiles on an F-15 undetectable, as to one of the previous posts mentioned this characteric about their stealth weapons' ability, within this thread.
  5. Well, with your superior knowledge of flight stuff, I bet you are correct! You have have helped me more than any other 10 guys in these forums. Are you ever wrong? LOL! (just kidding) Some of the WWII era planes had some kind of lead computer built into the aiming recticles, but I think it was done with optics. I have Chuck Yeager's 2 books, autobiographies. There was an unprecidented loss of many aircraft---and pilots, I think they were F-86. He and his superiors went to the factory where the jets were built. One of the bolts was to be installed upside down as part of the installation directions and design. The worker installing them told them, "heck everybody knows when you install a bolt, the threaded end goes into the hole and the head goes on top!" I think they fired that guy. Erich
  6. re: "It’s very well known that many Sim heads want Sweet Flight Models, Kickass weapon systems, RADAR systems so real that the IAEA’s Mohamed ElBaradei may show up at your door wondering “what the heck are you doing Nuke Boy!!?” Not me! I would love to see Korean War F-86 and the comparable Mig of that era in a combat sim as good quality as FC2 or DCS and no missiles. Basically what you got is just faster planes, firing all cannons, like the WWII prop planes. I read McConnel's biography in high school 40 years ago, before he got killed. His account of basic training, being an air crew medic in B-17's (I think B-17's), then eventually getting his dream of flight school after WWII and then jets was why I wanted to enlist, but I went Navy construction battalion. I have read many accounts about combat jets in action in Korea. Erich :pilotfly:
  7. Hi, Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I kind of got the idea the Russian aircraft might be better at it. I see few guys flying the F-15. When I'm fooling around with the Black Shark and watch guys take off in the Russian jets. I figure the idea flying towards an IR missle is maybe less chance it will home in on my engine? Or maybe lessen the distance hoping to get to it before it is armed? Thanks.
  8. Map source is this STICKY: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=55011
  9. Hi, (I realize this post subject is old news, but maybe I can be useful to you.) I used to do a lot of hiking in the Northeastern United States mountain areas on trails and bushwhacking. 1970's I only used the paper USGS topographic quadrangles, pencil and eraser. Maps were cheap enough to purchase another one if necessary. Map was put inside a waterproof plastic case, ziplock, with neck strap. The best maps currently for hiking are made out of a waterproof material. All map trails and topo contours are GPS and other sources, but very accurate. The outfit is called "The New York / New Jersey Trail Conference" . http://www.nynjtc.org Contact them and pick brains with the cartographers as to how to write on maps and the material they use.
  10. I have the LockOn Platinum boxed, 2- CDs set. I have the latest patches. 104th Phoenix server likes to play the sim on their multplayer server in full, realistic simulation mode. The only F-key that functions, is the F11 key. Is there an in-cockpit idiot-light to let me know the air brake is deployed up? I can hear the air turbulence when it is up. Map? How do you know where you are? What do you guys do, buy a map of the Baltic States through the ED e-store with co-ordinants on the map. I deliberately flew into hostile territory to get a feel of how the incoming SAM missiles work. I was looking right at the area they would be coming from according to the in-cockpit radar. I saw nothing, no missile smoke, or any indication before I got hit. I got an in-cockpit Betty warning of losing an engine and I punched out. Waiting too long trying to work-around the problems and too late---I am dead. Does the Flaming Cliffs 2 servers have only the full realistic mode in Multiplayer? More questions later as I progress. I started with DCS: A-10C and do that pretty good. Have been messing with the DCS: Black Shark, this will take awhile to even fly it. I just setup my own CH Products profile for Flaming Cliffs 2 and am learning it, started with the F-15. F-15 looks like there are no clickable by mouse switches or MFCD push-buttons in-cockpit. Thanks for any help.
  11. Hi, Yesterday, I was in Multiplayer, FC2, the 104th Phoenix server, flying the Black Shark with some Australian buddies. My 1st initial sortie on everything spoke English. I was on a UK squad and my Options (as always) were set to English. But, on repeat sorties, everything, my pilot, tower and Betty was back to Russian. I still crash a fair amount, just flying. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I did ask awhile ago and somebody suggested this: ===================================== http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=55383 I, eventually, went to the Users mods, to Home, to ED, to download the larger of the two English speaking "Betty" files. File Name: DTWDcns_Basic_zrMake_my_god-damn_game_speak_Englishxc_MOD_-_Russian_Accents_+_Betty.rar So what do I do with this file to get it to work properly? Is it strictly for Multiplayer mode in Flaming Cliffs 2? I know nothing of using ModMan except playing with it the last couple of days. And doing it wrong! Message #3 here: ============== http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=54725&highlight=English+speaking+Betty I suppose I will figure it out eventually, trial and error. I did a Google search. This popped up: ============================= http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3012506/Got_my_English_betty_back.html which led to this: ============== http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=903477#post903477 Found this post, Message #107 and #109 : ================================ http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36690&page=11 (I did put version 1.0.1c onto a separate, multiboot, hard drive to have access to the tutorials, but it is still the same operating system of Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. That is in English.) Thanks for any help.
  12. Obviously all good choices, but not the one I used to play. I hear there is a new tanking game that I believe may still be in beta that is supposed to be very good. Lost a few guys to the older game to this newbie. But I came here. I am such a hermit and behind the times I did not know these other games existed except WWII Online, which I did like the infantry part of it. Flying it wasn't that great. DCS: between the Warthog and the Black Shark, totally takes all my free gaming time. It would be nice to be able to hop into the ground vehicles here to shoot back at the enemy incoming. Since the guys in England recreate flyable museum pieces; there are guys on The Discovery Channel (cable TV) that rebuild old tanks---maybe hire them... :P Cheers.
  13. NOPE! WRONG! Take another guess....
  14. I play another tank killing game, tank to tank. In that game, it depends exactly where you hit them. WWII, German tanks are softer on top and in their butt and just above their tracks, under the mud flap, mid-section. Don't know how the tanks are modeled in DCS.
  15. Hi, Initially came on-board with the purchase of LockOn Platinum edition in January 2011. So, I have LockON installed; separately Flaming Cliffs installed; almost immediately purchased DCS: A-10C Warthog, installed separately and played with it until July; then purchased separately DCS: Black Shark. All products are Windows-7, 64 bit. I may be wrong, but thought the Black Shark in Flaming Cliffs was not the same intense Black Shark found in the DCS series. And hence, my original question: ====================== How do I know which server I am on? Thanks for any help and insight.
  16. Hi, I have gone to BS 1.0.2 in Multiplayer. I have seen many servers and tried a couple. How do I know whether I am in Flaming Cliffs or Black Shark? I am assuming if I am in Flaming Cliffs, there will be more options to fly various aircraft? I am only setup with my controllers in Black Shark Single Player. I do fly around on the servers I have tried with multiple aircraft offerings on the servers I have tried: 51st.org and 104th Phoenix. Thanks for any help.
  17. Hi, Well I am up and flying from a cold, ramp start and taxi to the runway. Definitely I need fine tuning. I have a couple different profiles I modified, others gave me. Plus will try to create one or two of my own. Was going to do the Game sim, 1st, but opted for the Real simulation as a start. I practice with the "Death Valley" mission, off line, in Single Player. Oh, this Black Shark is much better and more realistic than the 1980's Microprose Gunship title for the Apache, Viet Nam era, helicopter; and that was pretty good.
  18. I just completed my 2nd modification of a .map profile Capt_Crunch gave me for my CH Products controllers. Disregard what I said above. Making a profile in DCS: Black Shark is not the same process it is when I created my DCS: A-10C profile. The path from C:\ (whatever your program name for Black Shark) leads to Config\Input\Aircrafts\ka-50\joystick ; then the default.lua file . That default.lua file needs to stay put. His .map was written one or two updates ago and what he had, did not gel with version 1.0.2 . I had to re-map everything. But at least I had his experience to create something that works. But as what I said above, there are presets that need to be cleared in the Options' Controls that will interfere with anything you create. Well, for me, anyway. He said to run in Mapped Mode, but I find if I do that I only get one controller and a mouse. I get the 3 controllers in Direct Mode. Those 2 modes relate to the CH Control Manager. What I have currently, works good enough. But it still needs revision and modification. In both aircraft I fly in full REAL simulation mode and that is no picnic. At some point I will also make a profile for the GUI gaming mode. Have fun with yours, too.
  19. Hi, That is what I wanted to know. I still do not understand the Trimmer checkbox. I have researched it here to forums and within the manuals. I suppose within time, and experimentation, I will get it. This post does not link, concerning the 2nd post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=44322&highlight=Central+Position+Trimmer+Mode But now I have a new term to play with to search for: "new trimmer implementation" Looked up what the acronym RTFM means. I don't think "F" means "fine" as to the Google definition. LOL I started with the Internet and a Dell Intel Pentium 4 machine in XP in 2004. I started immediately to see what made the thing tick, under the covers within the Windows software and inside the case as to mods I created for it. I got me a big thick book on how the XP Registry works. I'm still a dummy. I know a heck of a lot more now than I did in 2004. I got into online gaming in the flight sims in 2007. And I scratch built my current machine last year. I think I am in the 1% bracket or maybe it is even less than that of the total owners worldwide that have ever taken their machines apart. In 7 years of doing my PC stuff, I've never had it to a repair shop. I always figure it out, usually by using the various forums, or a couple real IT type guys I know to pick brains. But, I am still a dummy compared to most of you guys that are on these forums acting as gurus or are gurus. Some of you guys date back to the mainframes, punched cards, and time-share, I bet. I don't think I even qualify as a typical computer nerd! Though I now do have a computer boneyard of various PC hardware of leftovers and I sit in an office like environment with hardly elbow room to move as to all the PC peripherals acquired over the years. My Dell still works and is Internet friendly, but ever so slowly as it ages, but it is my backup when I'm doing mods or fixup. Thank you. :pilotfly:
  20. Hi guys, re: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=52781&highlight=Central+Position+Trimmer+Mode and http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=52781&highlight=Central+Position+Trimmer+Mode&page=2 Top links as reference. =================================== Question #1: If not putting the Ka-50 files in Computer\C:\Programs(X86)\Eagle Dynamics\ where do the gurus here suggest to stash the Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50 files tree? Off that same Eagle Dynamics tree is also my LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2 folder from the LockOn Platinum, 2 disk set, I purchased to Best Buy for $20 in February 2011 that started this (enter appropriate cuss word of choice) addiction. If not in C:\ but in Games, how do you do it? I have an extra hard drive installed, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit that is my (G) drive . {That is funny, (G, colon gets a smily face (G:)} I have been running DCS: A-10C out of the Computer\C:\Programs\Eagle Dynamics folder since February. It works in 64 bit mode. Maybe it would work better if I moved it, too? =================================== Question #2: So, in Black Shark version 1.0.2 , full simulation Real mode, in OPTIONS, within GAMEPLAY, do I put a check in the box (or not) in the Central Position Trimmer Mode? -+- I have no desire to play with code and change things, unless absolutely necessary, and directed to do so, exactly, by the gurus, instructing me how to do it. Thanks :pilotfly:
  21. I have not done Falcon 4 or IL-2, yet! LOL!
  22. Hi, I do not know about DCS: Black Shark, yet. But I do know going through the set-up process creating a .map profile for my CH Control Manager to DCS: A-10C, there are pre-sets in the Saved Games folder that have to be cleared out, 1st. I just took the folder for the REAL full simulator and stashed it away in a My Documents separate folder in case I might need them; I never did need them. I forget, maybe I did a restart then. The sim recreates the REAL folder, minus the pre-sets. Then start eliminating identical commands in Options manually to just the one controller you need for that button and build your .map profile. I am currently right where you are in Black Shark, then I remembered earlier today, what I stated above. Yeah, I just purchased online here to Home, DCS: Black Shark, last week. Now they are offering both, here, on sale. That figures! Cheers :pilotfly:
  23. Thank you for the reply. I think I have enough info to get this thing flying. Thanks guys.
  24. Hi, In order for me to create a .map CH Products, profile I had to remove a portion of the SAVED GAMES folder in A-10C as to the folder the presets were in in the Realisitic Simulation. I just removed them out to a separate MY DOCUMENTS folder for safe keeping. The Black Shark equivalent is not in my Saved Games folder under my user-name. Where is it hiding? When I either create my own or use somebody else's Profile it keeps jumping back to just one controller and the mouse; in OPTIONS in CONTROLS, even though I deliberately set it up for having the 3 separate controllers. I am fine in DCS: Warthog and separately to Aces High Thanks for any help.
  25. I never went to get lessons. Learning to drive my car and eventually passing the road test was enough for me. Driving a car is dangerous enough. I bet as to percentages flying is much safer. But a stupid mistake in the air usually is rather unforgiving. Is on my wish list, just to go out with an instructor. 10 years ago I did cerebral brain hemorrhage, I doubt FAA would allow me to fly solo. I drive my car OK and my neurologists never made a stink about it after doing rehab. Anyway, out to our local, little airport. I watched an old fart, at least age 70, step in to his little, aerobatic, red bi-plane; start up the propeller; and just like that off he went. Just a few feet off the ground he does quick snap rolls and stuff and was having a ball---stick and rudder. When I was in Cuba to Gitmo about 1977 I saw a pilot show off his aerobatic stuff in his Sky Raider (I think), Viet 'Nam era carrier based aircraft with the long gear struts, delta wings, showing off to the Cubans no doubt. He left the runway and shot up like a dart doing rolls and really fast. I'm sure he did his checklists. But the old guy in the red bi-plane, I don't think so.
