Looks to be somewhere in Australia according to Google. For me, wee hours in NY would be best for me. 4AM here is about 8PM the next day, eastern Australia, I think. I was playing with the guys in s77th last year from that area on their TS channel. I think they are tanking last I checked.

I have played another sim where dog-fighting is a 24/7 always on server done by hundreds of guys daily, fighting in all classes of mostly WWII era planes. A P-51 and other faster prop planes, if done correctly, can easily kill the Me-262, done by sim pilots better than me. A couple good books out there are, Kylander's, "In Pursuit" for the sim prop planes and Shaw's book, "Fighter Combat" for the real jets, era. Just keep your -E- high and don't slow down too much. I pull pretty hard G's in DCS in both aircraft. I have never encountered blackout or red-out like this other sim does. You can ride right on the edge of the tunnel vision. I may have it turned off in DCS, though, as learning the sim is more important than messing with the other stuff, I'll add that later, like random failures.

I wish in Multiplayer, as long as both parties on the same side or team agree to dogfight and shoot at each other with intent to down the plane, get rid of the teamkill aspect of the game/sim. Otherwise I would think the teamkill aspect of the sim is going to interfere with a guy's reputation. P-51 should easily be able to get within the turn radius of most jets. Anybody have any idea whether the guns' convergence distance will be adjustable? Has the prototype design gone to the testers, yet? Or did the testing guys swear an oath not to reveal anything until ED allows it? Variable pitch prop? Do you guys do Reno races?:D

How to Transition from 200 knots to Hover? I Need a Squad!
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi, Funnels I have seen guys do in Multiplayer and the offline Demo and the YouTube demo. I have read about how to do this, but I still have no clue actually doing it. I like it all, it is just going to take awhile getting this stuff into my brain and to my hands / feet  I popped a blood vessel in my head 10 years ago at age 50, I am sure that has some hindrances to my coordination ability. I know my response rate has slowed down quite a bit. I am surprised NY State allows me to drive my car. Thanks for taking the time to makeup the .trk file. -
I saw that a year or two ago. Yeah, sims are just fine with me. I might try flying a sail-plane, but with lessons. Used to be, a 14 year old kid could get his NY State license. Sky diving, maybe, when I know I am dying and my time is short anyway. Then kick myself for waiting so long to try it. Wonder that guy did not kill somebody with those escaped rotor blades. That guy ordering guys away, I wonder if the guy was dead, not to desecrate an accident scene or the FIRE potential?

How to Transition from 200 knots to Hover? I Need a Squad!
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
A reply to myself, Message #1: I am not big on squads. It is just learning this stuff solo, as I am doing, piece by piece, is very time consuming. But like learning tool and die work in my younger years, stupid mistakes, especially EXPENSIVE mistakes (though not here), I rarely ever repeated it, after getting chewed out by the guy training me. Learning the Ka-50, solo, slowly, I tend to remember it better. I'm currently learning the deeper aspects of the ABRIS and the combat stuff. One thing I find really hard to do, is landing on a FARP landing pad. That is going to take awhile, trial and error. I can get into a decent hover, fairly close, but getting down to an exact spot, is not easy. I have CH Products gear and I use its Control Manager. I'm thinking I need to fine tune my curves for my Fighterstick collective inputs. I do use the Auto Pilot Decent Mode and I get down OK. Seems odd the IFF switch is non-functional, yet I can get my wingman to do a Recon and identify the enemy for me. The video tutorial showed it, I am assuming that is in full sim mode. I learn some, I then play some both online and offline. I die a lot. LOL! What squad is very active always playing DCS? It seems most guys, learn the new game, get fairly good at it, then quit playing it and play another new sim instead. I played with the S77th, mostly the Australian crew as I am up wee hours in New York, for a few months last year with the A-10C but they would not let me join them. They said I was a "good friend" of their squad, I was just not up to their level of expertise. I can understand that. Now, I don't even see them on the DCS or FC2 servers. World of Tanks seems to be big right now. I did not like it. Aces High tanking is a lot more realistic and fun for me, but I do it solo. I learn a lot just reading the forums and of course the manuals, but I will still ask questions. Thanks for the replies, guys. -
How to Transition from 200 knots to Hover? I Need a Squad!
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yeah, I see what you are saying. Getting to 200 mph is no big deal. I have gone faster and over stressed the air frame. This sim needs search and rescue! In water, a mae-west vest and or rubber dingy would be nice, glub-glub-glub. Ejecting, the way the pilot hits the ground, he should be breaking his legs. I'd like to see an AI helicopter come and get me back to base. I have a 3 mode, 18 key Logitech G15 keyboard. I programmed a single key for ejecting, but kept accidently hitting it, forgetting to change modes. I use the Scroll Lock button for TeamSpeak. I have to find a better way out. -

I like .trk files. It took me awhile to figure out how to do the necessary manipulating within "My Computer". I even found the Demo files I never knew I had. LOL! Learning new stuff at age 30 was a lot easier than it is, now at age 60. But like one guy here said, beats doing crossword puzzles. I love the Ka-50 sim, offline or online. I have flown flight sims since 1985 with my 1st computer, Commodore-64. By far, this helicopter is the most intense sim except maybe the Space Shuttle sim back in the 1990's. I can at least hover, now. In a stiff breeze, it is a challenge. I have not broken the helicopter, yet, doing the technique Viper suggested---that works pretty good. -
In reality, the Wildcat was very early WWII and severely outclassed by the same era Zero. All 4 aircraft mentioned were mostly CV based (aircraft carriers) and only the later F4U versions even came close to the performance characteristics of the P-51D. The issue in a simulation environment is putting like era planes and the planes that flew in certain only theaters of combat to fight together in a simulation. Not like Aces High does it. Me, too, anything with a tailhook is great. But I am not complaining.
-
Darn plane is fragile. The wings rip off in a relatively low G dive upon going back up. Aces High WWII aerial combat sim has one of these, though outrageously perked. Landing it is rather interesting. They also have a WWII dual jet bomber and the hydrazine fueled rocket plane. They do have a training area where all planes in non-combat mode are free of perk purchases, for those planes that are perked. I do wish DCS had a central server like Aces High does with a scoring system, but that is asking a lot. You guys have my total attention currently, all I fly is DCS or FC2. http://www.hitechcreations.com/images/ahss/full/me262-takeoff.jpg

Hi, (Interestingly, sometimes, like now, when I reply, everything is in HTML code and other times, not. What gives?) You build this sucker and sell it, I will buy it. For a taste of a semi-arcade P-51 in actual simulated combat go to: http://hitechcreations.com/ 1st 2 weeks are free. Offline is always free. Free download. $15 per month. Server is always on 24/7 unless problems, which is rare. Texas, USA. I have heard stated here to DCS forums, just one plane is a 100,000 man hours to develop. How many guys are programming the P-51? Any other requests for planes, you guys volunteering your free time? I know some guys do this. I just hope DCS goes on and on and the USA stays relatively friendly with Russia OR I just may have to relocate. LOL! (Hopefully, this reply will be in paragraphs as I intended it.)

Make new flight Route with the PVI-800
ErichVon replied to pepin1234's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi, You are ahead of me with the learning curve, but I have just done some of the navigation training using the ABRIS and the PVI-800. I did not see the part that said the .trk file was for BS1 and I loaded it in to BS2. That explains why it never left the ground, but started to fly to the waypoint until it hit something. LOL! Maybe the issue with your 2 degree difference is the toggle switch next to the AutoPilot buttons labeled DH top / DT bottom (Desired Heading / Desired Track). That is just a guess and I am probably wrong as I have no knowledge, yet, of reprogramming the PVI-800. The guy to ask might be the guy doing the BS2 Mission video tutorials---BigfootMSR http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=84612 He has a couple more in the works. And of course to here: http://digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/video/bs2-training/ but these are the same tutorials (I think) that used to be in the Training area of BS1, version 1.0.1 . Plus Google your topic concerning YouTube. I do the training stuff repeatedly as I miss stuff the 1st few times. -
Can we uninstall BS1 after we installed BS2?
ErichVon replied to izt_is's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
In C: on just one hard drive, my BS1, 1.0.2 allows me Multiplayer with FC2, while, separately I can play Multiplayer with BS2 with the Warthog server. With the limitation of open, not locked servers, I prefer both. I saved both pair of each desktop shortcuts for easy access. I use the same CH Products .map in the CH Control Panel, but had to independently setup each Options Controls separately. I have the original Black Shark 1, its patches, then purchased the BS2 upgrade and added its patches is what I have. This works for me, so far. Though I do think it kind of strange that this actually works. Most all you Ka-50 guys have been playing this sim for a few years. I've been at it seriously for about 3 months and Black Shark is all I do as to gaming currently. Maybe FC2 has gotten a bit stale for the experienced guys? -
How to Transition from 200 knots to Hover? I Need a Squad!
ErichVon replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi Viper, I will give that a try. Thanks for the reply and the track. (Edit, an hour later): I watched the track you supplied several times: inside the cockpit: HUD; separately the flight stick cyclic, rudder pedals, and collective; and outside view. It looks to me what your .trk file shows is you are going from about 300 km/h to about 40 km/h, then zero at hover, all done by manual control inputs and the trimmer button in about two minutes from start of the example. Is this true? You are not using any automatic hover controls? This will take some practice. (Edit, a few hours later): That worked very good. I was on your open server to FC2, flew to target area and actually got it to hover for quite awhile, just above the trees. I will be asking more stupid questions as I progress, stay tuned. Thank you. -
I need some sources as reference as well as any comment(s) anyone wants to offer. I am familiar with the transitioning tutorial from this source: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/video/bs2-training/ http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/video/bs2-training/basic-flight-procedures-part-2/#transition-maneuvers I do not use the Central Position Trimmer Mode. I fly Ka-50 Sim mode only. I can get to the combat area. My combat skills are non-existent currently. (I need a squad to fly with so I can get help with the Ka-50. I can do Multiplayer to either the 1.02 update or the latest BS2.0, 1.1.1.1 . I have the original download, the updates since, and the latest update. I live in NY State. I would prefer ping rates 200 and below. My DSL is slow, but that will change in September when I get cable Internet. My 2nd generation i7 CPU runs at 3.9GHz, Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit.)

I will check it out. Thanks.

I am ignorant as to what is available online as to MMORPG combat flight sims. My experience online is Aces High since 2007 and DCS since last year. Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2 I have, but I have never gotten very deep into it. I did try WWII Online, maybe 2 or 3 years ago, but their aircraft were substandard compared to Aces High, despite the fact that the book, "In Pursuit" written by Johan Kylander in 2006 was based on his experience with this sim. It was a freebie read at http://tinyurl.com/ehstj Maybe it still is. So, where do you get a P-51 to dogfight in other than Aces High, that is at least as good as Aces High (http://hitechcreations.com) ? What program source do you use? Does your Air Combat League allow other program sources to be compatible with each other? I know FSX has a P-51, but I do not think it is combat capable, but I do not know this as fact, just hearsay. I know a few Aces High guys come to DCS to fly combat sorties with the 2 current aircraft. Give us a better P-51D to fight with, I bet more guys will come over, too. But Aces High does have advantages over DCS in a few areas. I like both sims. (I have lost my ability within posting messages to the forums to have separate paragraphs for separate ideas. What has changed?) Found a better, free, online source to the book in .pdf web.comhem.se/~u85627360/inpursuit.pdf

Dogfight with other P-51s, if they ever allow it on the servers.

Lee Cobb and Arthur Kennedy with lesser known Frank Albertson and James Seay. Arthur Kennedy is the majority of this one. (info supplied by a guy to the Aces High forum). The know it all pilot is the actor Arthur Kennedy. The manager type in the tower with the officers is Lee J. Cobb. And a bit of Walt Disney is the animation, I bet.
-
The actor portraying the know-it-all sounds familiar. Van Heflin, maybe? He was a WWII combat photographer. The relatively bald headed guy playing the manager type is also a well known actor, later. Any real old guys in here or movie buffs?

Concerning Trim with the TM Warthog
ErichVon replied to J3Langford's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I quit using the newer, Central Trim thing, I unchecked it. I find learning how to use the Auto Pilot modes and the Auto Hover and the Collective Brake - Assign Attitude really has improved my flying. Also the Auto-Pilot Descent Mode of the collective is a nice feature. I just found out about the switch on the collective, the "R" key, (Engage / Disengage Route Mode) that will automatically take me to the next waypoint using the PVI-800 keypad. I mapped that in to a button. I always use Control + Enter to see what my inputs are doing, visually. You will get an "A" symbol in Route mode and an "H" symbol in Auto-Hover mode. Overhead also displays what is going on. Black Shark is better than Warthog in this respect. I bet I can input coordinators via the ABRIS / PVI-800 and it will automatically steer me there. And the proper use of how to trim: off trim button or key, center stick within .5 seconds---there are a couple "trainee" videos on that subject. What is a real killer, self-inflicted, is over-speeding the aircraft even in a flat cruise. That action is not too kind to the airframe. Used to be I was flying along and all of a sudden, for no reason to me, the helicopter just went into an uncontrollable right hand dive. But I still screw up, like over-reacting when a missile is coming at me and I dive for the ground too fast. Did I say? I am getting really fast at cold starting this thing, even in the dark! LOL! I can't wait until I can hide behind buildings and hills, pop up, fire, pop down. -
Do a search here or to Google concerning this sim: Sim-Pits and separately: Mods should get you with the guys that go a bit deeper and farther and are the true innovative guys within sims. SimHQ is a forum that gets rather intense.

I run just a single video monitor. I do get hesitation hiccups in intense battles on occasion. What I did to my new Alienware rig was tweak my Nvidia card, trial and error, within its "Manage 3D Settings" and I use the DCS: Black Shark pre-configured game settings that is within the listings they have both for Black Shark and Warthog. I have the latest drivers they had at the time, 2 months ago, I updated myself on the Intel/GeForce nVidia site. I have TrackIR5 but it is not hooked up, yet for this sim. TIR5 will take a big fps hit. Also, I bought a 3D monitor ($500) and the powered 3D glasses that I have not used with this sim, yet, either. My 3D monitor setup has to be set to run at 120 fps. My 3D monitor at its current state is set at 59 fps but / and I get 60 fps a good chunk of the time, but I turn down a lot of the non-essential stuff in game in presets within the game and within the nVidia card's nVidia Control Panel. I read somewhere that a LCD monitor is not suppose to be set higher that 60fps, except if using a 3D setup. My Alienware is a second generation i7 cpu that runs at 3.4 ghz but will throttle up to 3.9ghz as needed on demand. It is water cooled and very well ventilated. I have a 2 card RAID0 setup and it is very well cooled in a mini-ATX setup. When the GTX580 card gets cheaper I will swap out my dual SLI GeForce cards for just one of those. My current rig runs faster than my homebuilt rig using the GTX 260 on a 17-920 cpu I built 2 years ago. I do kick myself for not just building me another homebuilt rig. Because of my current DSL's slow Internet speed, I play mostly off-line, but not always and I only use servers that run 180 fps or less in Multiplayer. Come September I will try my local RoadRunner cable Turbo which runs at around 30 megs per second download speed. I usually stay up wee early morning hours, there is nobody but me on and up in my area except the roving cops, drunks, and druggies. The USA Federal Trade Commission caps the downlaod speeds in the States. Some guys overseas run at 100 gigs download speed---how to compete online with that? These 2 DCS sims are the only really true 64-bit games I play and it hardly touches my 845 watt psu. I put a clamp ammeter on it to checkout my amp/wattage usage. It will be necessary in the future to keep buying newer/faster/better to keep up with DCS. I am not a big Dell fan, but they have their advantages, plus I am learning to speak Central American Spanish---it's not that bad, some of those people at Alienware speak English rather well. Dell documents their stuff online very well, as readable, downloadable stuff I can do solo. This is my 2nd Dell in 8 years. Surprising to me, they encourage me to do my own experimenting with newer hardware even when I took out the extended warranties (which I doubt I will ever use). I mod my own stuff, I always figure it out, eventually, with a little help from my forum friends. I have never yet had my PCs to a shop since 1985 when I started this madness. But Dell nickel-dimes oneself to the extreme. I get parts from NewEgg, Best Buy and Staples. Dell is not all propriety as much as they would like people to believe. I run at 1024 but not every frame. I also run at high visible range. Everything else is turned down or off. If I go online and cannot look-out, why do I need my engines' blurr visual effect turned on? I play in full sim mode and try not to baby myself too much with the crutches. This is a good thread---a keeper. Looks like I will try some more tweaking.

I just do searches to forums and youtube and ask a few questions. I found a lot of helpful stuff since February 2012. I think I have SDeath's Beginner's Cold Start Checklist now memorized. That is how I got started in BS2 just the last couple of weeks. Last year I tried and failed to get the startup sequence because everything was in Russian. I compare these 2 DCS sims like learning guitar and spending 18 hour sessions daily until relative mastery. The Flight Manual is rather intense. I play a bit with flying the sim, encounter a problem, then read about it. Then fly some more. Glad I don't have to pay $$ for my mistakes! This person has a 2 hour tutorial in a full system startup and explains the why of it. I have not completed it, yet. Put the .miz file under Black Shark 2/Missions folder. It will display within the Missions heading within the index.
