  1. Hi, I did a Google search: ============== http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=active&sa=X&ei=qPG4Tf29NIGXtweJ8rTeBA&sqi=2&ved=0CBgQvwUoAQ&q=nVidia+Control+Panel%2BGPU+scaling&spell=1&fp=a033b5e3e04b3407 I will check it out. Thanks, Erich :pilotfly:
  2. I read a biography of Nikola Tesla. He had the whole idea of a radio controlled air force somewhere around 1920. It took the engineering community 80 years to figure out the specifics of it all. So with our USA Space Shuttle fleet retired, how are the military guys servicing the military satellites? Somehow I do not think China or Russia are doing it. LOL! Yes, it would be fun to be more proactive controlling the AI in Missions and Campaigns. In full sim mode, my flight of 3 wingies will follow orders after I am dead or in the silk floating down. If I tell them to engage early into the mission. While I am in my chute, they RTB back to the point I ordered them into battle, then they turn around and engage. Sometimes they complete their mission or run out of ords, RTB, land and park their planes. Half the fun of this game is watching the various AI do their stuff and watch missles and bombs go after their target. I will give orders, fly very high, eject, and then watch my AI guys, me using the various F-keys. Also is good being my own forward observer checking out where the targets are floating down in my chute. Anyway, my experience, so far. As to bailing out too high, the ejection seat seems not to allow being above 12,000 feet or so. I have deliberately turned the oxygen off at 15,000 feet and have suffered no ill effects in cockpit, yet. Erich :pilotfly:
  3. You guys do not seem to be too concerned about killing processes (re: lean and mean) like to Flight Simulator and Aces High. I think it is BlackViper.com has his experiences and web pages. What a pain that is figuring what to turn off and not mess up the system. I do use Game Booster. AlacrityPC does not seem to be friendly with Windows 7, 64 bit. Its percursor was great using XP. Thanks much for your reply. I will experiment with what you have mentioned. Erich :pilotfly:
  4. I took the latest Nvidia update and got a lot of stutters and freezes, so I went back to last summer's update and am doing better. I played around with the settings and am using the DCS: Blackshark settings already and I am also doing better. Just this morning I backed up my system. So once I get a copy of my BIOS, I will start playing around with the various BIOS settings I have read about to the forums here. I have 6 gigs of DD3 by 1600 RAM and will expand it to 12 GB because I am running at about 80%. And once I get the cooling situation better under control I will try overclocking it. I have not done overclocking, yet as to my experience. Weak link to my Windows 7 whatever it is called system check is my 7500 rpm hard drive which I may get a 10,000 rpm one. DCS: A-10C is where my attention is at. LockOn I have never played and Flamming Cliffs I played about a week. Flaming Cliffs might be more fun for interactive combat like Aces High is. I do miss the 300 plus guys all on one server, the 3 countries, and fighting towards a goal of capturing the map---which I wish DCS had and paying a monthly fee for a big server map instead of these LAN parties would be fun and worth it. Last night, late, I played on the 74th's England server no problems at all and I am in NY State. Learning the Maverick and am actually killing stuff. I am doing better. If I am going to spend $500 on a new video card, I think I'd be better just getting a new PC. Thanks for your reply, Erich :pilotfly:
  5. Hi, The sim setup my AA at 4x as a default as to my card. I scratch built my on rig last May. There is a lot to it. The process involves a lot of study just making sure all the parts are compatible before purchasing the parts. Actually the putting it together was the easy part, though a lot of it, for me, was all new. And afterwards I could look inside my 1st Internet capable machine, my old Dell, and I could see better how it was built and why things were the way they were. Yes, Tom's Hardware is a good choice to learn from. Fine tuning the software is what I find to be a larger chore. I have not seen much typed words concerning nVIDIA Control Panel: Manage 3D Settings and how to set it up properly, other than its guide. I have it set in default settings, "let the application decide" under "Adjust images settings under Preview", which to me, is a cop out. My next step to try and get better performance out of my GTX 260 card to play A-10C is to lower my video resolution as close to the ratio of my monitor's optimum settings and see what happens. (If I set it too far away from that ratio, circles look like ellipses.) I see guys play this sim with gear worse than mine and they do good, or good enough. Erich :pilotfly:
  6. Hi, I wonder how far I can go as to upgrading to a new video card with my Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard? My current cards are: GTX 260 installed and Radeon HD 5770 not installed Erich :pilotfly:
  7. Drivers? Hi, Not sure which post out of this thread to quote from. My video card is a GTX 260 installed. I also have a XFX Radeon Hd 5770 not installed. As to stutters and freezes, to me, its like my video cache is overloaded, and the card is waiting for updated info. It is worse closer to the ground. You bet I play with the Controls box in Options. It is worse in very active AI Missions. When I downloaded this game/sim, I was running the nVidia Drivers Update 258.96 WHQL or 260.99 WHQL and it ran pretty good without major stutters or momentary freezes. I also have listed in my backup source the 190.38 WHQL that I probably tried with the GTX 260 graphics card when running Aces High. I took the latest update for my card after purchasing Warthog, the 266.58 WHQL and the stutter problem was much worse. Last night I downgraded back to 258.96 WHQL and the stutters are less. I tested it on a pre-recorded mission from DCS that was "hard" and rather intense AI and it ran better. In 2007 I ran Aces High on my Dell Dimension 3000 on the integraded video chip inside which did not perform well. I upgraded to a Radeon X1300 which was a tad better. (I am not a hard core gamer, I learn as I go.) Last year I built this new machine which was light years better than the 3000, but I found I could not run the video card there (Aces High) very well without downgrading the driver for it. I think this is true, here. Also, found this thread: ================ http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68060 and a Google search: ============== http://www.google.com/#q=DCS%3A+A-10C+stutters+and+freezes+Windows+7%2C+64+bit&bih=675&biw=1568&fp=1&hl=en&safe=active&cad=b which revealed the above link and this: ========================= http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:7V5q8EYStEMJ:forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php%3Ft%3D68037+DCS:+A-10C+stutters+and+freezes+Windows+7,+64+bit&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&source=www.google.com I am looking for the common denominator of this situation. And trial and error. I wonder how far I can go as to a new video card with my Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard? I will be hanging out to Tom's Hardware for a few days. Two issues are: ========== Overclocking the cpu and / or new video card and / or (ugh!) new motherboard. Might be better to get a new machine and relegate this one to replace my old Dell. VelocityMicro is where I would go instead of scratch building another one. Right now, I am just thinking and experimenting trying to get this machine to perform better. Erich :pilotfly:
  8. I have seen some interesting things happen on the Navy side just to impress some admiral. In 1974 I had duty section Stateside and had to direct traffic to an air show at Point Mugu. A few high ranking officers in dress whites got onboard a Goodyear blimp and that sucker almost went straight vertical, nose 1st, about 30 degrees off vertical, I bet 2 thousand feet, really quick. Erich :pilotfly:
  9. This is the only thread I found on the title subject using Advanced Search. It is a long thread. I have not found it mentioned, yet. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62232&highlight=reverse+thrust Does this DCS: A-10C Warthog incorporate the sliding engines mechanism found on commercial jets known as "reverse thrust" ? I sometimes, especially on short runways like the training area X runway, come in immediately on dry concrete as the stall horn is sounding just before I land and can even make this short runway. If there is a switch for reverse thrust I have not found it. A trick I used to "Aces High" to kill a lot of air speed quickly is just hit rudder hard and opposite aileron to stay level. But some planes will do a wing dump or even snap stall if not careful. Erich :pilotfly:
  10. I bought mine a couple weeks ago. It is still in the shipping box, unopened. I learn this thing in chunks. It took a month to get my CH profile working to my satisfaction. The next smart thing to do is get my views down. The keyboard views are good enough, but not really sufficient if fighting multiple enemies at once. Though that is more an issue dog-fighting and situational awareness. I can start the plane up, take off, fly around, navigate, and land it, all in full SIM mode. I still need to learn all the rest of it. I spend a lot of time just reading forums and sometimes asking questions. And then there is YouTube. Coming into DCS completely green is a challenge. And, though I probably should not do so just yet, I'm itching to get DCS: Black Shark. I should just focus on Warthog and at least get good enough at all the systems and fine tune later before getting the helicopter. But I probably won't. Erich :pilotfly:
  11. This is my favorite video: ================= and check out the other related videos, after. Watch the 1st link until he actually lands. Ever see a B-52 do a crosswind landing? Pretty cool. When the CIA hired pilots to fly non-military during 'Nam was pretty cool stuff. The Navy Reserve hired Evergreen Airways out of Iceland to fly our battalion to the Gulfport, MS airport, late 1970's, for our annual ACDUTRA. I think the pilot got his license out of a Cracker Jack box. He really scared us landing and again taking off. 1st time down was cloud to about 500 feet and he was half off the runway, over grass. He had to go around again. Leaving: I helped load the baggage on that jet; it was stuffed to the gills underneath. He used every last inch of runway, leaving. I swear our wheels touched the top of the fence. Erich :pilotfly:
  12. Are there any good Black Shark .map profiles already configured as good as KonKuSSion's .map profile for DCS: A-10C, for CH Products? I did find 3 old ones to CH Hanger. Yeah, I am lazy. But using his as a template, it should not be too hard to figure it out to create my own. But it is a very time consuming process. (Yes, I did a no-no; I got no response for the same question to the A-10C forum, so I also asked here.) Erich :pilotfly:
  13. Hi, (Your avatar kind of looks like how I have always thought God looks like, mine anyway, LOL) I intend to post the info you request. B_U_T Would you mind explaining your thoughts how my i7-920 cpu would be the limiting factor in how Warthog is programmed? Yes, I am ignorant of such things. I am self taught with PCs and learn as I go along. I did just yesterday find out through Task Manager how to assign more cores to this game. The process is defined in Ed Bott's big Windows 7 book, page 178, as "Processor Affinity". I actually found out about it doing a search to the Black Shark forums. I tried it and also tried Game Booster, but in AI missions I still stutter and momentarily freeze up. In training and free flight and missions with less AI, I am fine. My online adventures also are easier, so far. My old Dell, Pentium 4 cpu, I can understand the cpu was not fast enough to do the algorithm calculations. But I would think my Intel i-7 920 cpu would be fast enough. My hard drive is a 7500 rpm one. I am wondering if CPU is waiting on the hard drive? True, maybe I should go take some college computer courses. Thanks for your response. Erich :pilotfly:
  14. Like e-Bay? Hope not... Erich :pilotfly:
  15. Maybe that is what is going on. I have one through a Firefox Plug-In. Erich :pilotfly:
  16. The 'Nam era USA Intruder would be great for jamming radars before a big strike. I saw it was still flying active duty to an air show about 1990. Of course that means you guys need a CV, with steam catapults :smilewink: Erich :pilotfly:
  17. What is the best way to purchase Black Shark for the latest configuration? I have Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit; i7-920 cpu. Is there a need to set it back using the Compatibility settings? I am hoping in the future Black Shark would have the ability to kill Warthogs and visa versa, online. Thanks. Erich :pilotfly:
  18. Am I correct to assume there is a built in translator in these Forums to automatically translate English to Russian and Russian to English similar to BabelFish. The German from Berlin that taught me to stick weld was born there during WWII. He told me that like in India, the English language is taught there as a second language. So, maybe that is it, instead. Erich :pilotfly:
  19. I wanted this post here to Warthog but I feel Scotty already beaming me over to the Black Shark forum. edit: ==== (I did find Crunch's in the Profiles Sticky today 4/21/2011.) Erich :pilotfly:
  20. Reminds me, I'm kind of deaf in my right ear. Driving down the road, wife is talking to me in front passenger seat and several times now I have reached for the analog radio dial to increase her volume. LOL! Like that? Erich :pilotfly:
  21. Apache Gunship or Whatever It Is Called These Days There are several good USA Calvary helicopters as candidates. The Apache. There is one with a radar or optical gear on top of its rotors to lurk just a hair above a ridge-line. DCS:Warthog uses a similar one in its AI missions. Scranton, PA had a really great airshow before the 1st Iraq war. These helicopter guys wore black Western cowboy hats with the Calvary's crossed swords as a lapel on the front of the hat. Cool dudes. Or Add air rescue for the pilot and get Jolly Greens as search and rescue would be fun. Erich :pilotfly:
  22. Hi, Thought I would reference this old post. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=615139 Answer his question as far as DCS: A-10C Warthog is concerned and ask 3 questions I need to know before purchasing DCS: Black Shark. My CH Products Trilogy is currently the Fighterstick USB, Pro Throttle USB and Pro Pedals USB. I do not have the helicopter sim, yet. I did buy the A-10C Warthog about 2 months ago. I did not do any betas for it or LockOn. It took me about a month to figure out how to work KonKuSSion's CH .map profile and the CH Control Manager to work properly on my PC. I do not know about Black Shark, but Warthog has CH controllers pre-mapped into its OPTIONS. They have to be cleared and reset. Also the joystick folder under Saved Games has to be completely emptied. I only emptied the full sim joystick folder. Then using Kon's .map profile I can use his controller setup through the CH Control Manager 1st, map them in OPTIONS, then independently use them in GAME mode or also in full SIM mode. It works for me. I asked questions to the DCS: Warthog forums. But I had to figure it out on my own, with a couple of leads from forums. My questions are: ============ (1) How do I map the collective in DCS: Black Shark to my CH gear? (2) Can I play DCS: Black Shark on the Warthog servers online? (3) Can I play DCS: Warthog on the Black Shark servers online? Amazon.com has the game for purchase in the boxed editions, but I did buy Warthog online to the England site and did the 3 downloads off the Russian HTTP download site. Oddly, the USA mirror site kept locking up. I figured most everybody was asleep in Russia when I downloaded it. Thanks for any help, Erich :pilotfly:
  23. Hi Kon, I figured it out and I use your supplied controller print-outs. It was quite a process to figure it out. DCS pre-maps the CH controllers. So, that all had to be cleared in OPTIONS. And before that, as Tev suggested, under "Saved Games" the joystick folder had to be emptied / cleared out. I use the CH Control Manager and your profile you supplied me. I did not have to figure out how to use the CH Control Manager finer aspects, just the basic moves. I use your exact profile, I just tuned the axis some. Pedals I tuned both in the CH Control Manager and also in the OPTIONS setup area not to be so sensitive steering. Shifted mode, Fighterstick pinky switch works just fine on the "dual" mappings. I've been using the same setup in GAME mode and also in full SIM mode for about a month. Actually, your setup is very useful using the in game training tutorials. Thank you, Erich :pilotfly:
  24. Hi, I have flown with Continental quite a bit and have always thought their pilots are pretty good, Newark, NJ to Seattle, WA and back. I actually did all that, that you have described, except call into the tower (they never answer in full sim mode, yet) and was in pattern to land. I flew all the way back to the 1st friendly base, probably 60 miles. Then the server was taken down. Now, landing and surviving it, is another matter. I have never piloted real life. I only have one real life!! And the only other very realistic sim I have under my belt for 4 years is Aces High out of Texas, mostly all props, a German jet fighter, a German jet bomber and a German rocket/glider. They have twin and 4 engine fighters and bombers included in over 80 aircraft. I found like with a P-38 on one engine, landing it was easy enough. But once down and trying to taxi with it I only kept going in circles. Like you said, once gear is down, you are committed to land. Sucks when just got one flap, too; then go in without flaps, with or without gear, just a hair above stall speed, take my chances. Damage cannot be repaired if going back up, to Aces High, but they do have a refuelling pad. And Aces High is about air combat. Very good chance I'd never make it back to base but get shot down and bail-out. Another time I was dead-stick in a prop plane, flew quite a ways, all set to land on the beach, wheels down and got shot up on final. I needed a change, so I got LockOn Platinum for $20 to BestBuy in January and have only been to DCS:Warthog a month or so. I need to learn crosswinds landings. I get a kick just flying the plane. I am not proficent enough at combat to even consider being useful to a squad, yet, and probably not for a few months. I do go into combat areas and use the F-keys to learn various things on both the friendly and enemy sides. Nice thing about offline game is AI is most likely various canned cycles. On server, you are fighting ever changing, dynamic, real thinking humans. Thank you very much for the reply. Erich :pilotfly:
  25. How do I get this info sent to you? Not just stutters, but the page actually freezes and plays catch up, then moves on. I am running too hot, above what Intel says idle should be, 38 degrees C . I have a couple different software temperature core readers that get the same results under load. It gets near 60 degrees C under load. Intel stock fan. The guru I used for reference, building my machine said a full size case was not necessary. I went by "PC Gamer" magazine's specs for parts, but I have a mid size case: a NZXT Alpha (steel mid-tower) with side fan and clear plastic side, primarily built for the 8800 GTX. I should have gotten a full size case. Erich :pilotfly:
