  1. Im sure everyone is busy learning this beast, i know i am!! Have the manual open on the laptop, youtube playing on the TV, and the viggen running on the PC haha. Just thought i would start this thread to allow us as a community to share idea, or ask questions, on how people are setting up their control mappings. I am using the x52pro and so far just have the basics set. Trim, autobrake, AP, and reference button. Still gotta figure out what im going to do for the radar stick and the rb05 control. Im thinking i can use the pinkie switch at the back of the joystick as a modifier and put the radar controls on the throttle and the operate when the switch is held. Using the throttle hat to control radar slew. The buttons are limited however so ill need to choose the most vital ones, and the ones that arent used as often ill leave on the keyboard. And then for the rb05 ill use the switch control function leatherneck has added and have one of the stick buttons act as the modifier for that. Ok, back to flying and learning!!
  2. I don't think people realize how dark it gets at night, depending on moon. If there's no moon out, it's pitch black. The only way to see the horizon is try and see where the stars stop. If you don't have any source of light, you can't even see your hand in front of you. Now of course if there's a moon, things change. With a full moon you can see fairly well at night. The worst sim platform for night is FSX/P3D. Even with no moon you can see as if it's daylight. XP10 does a good job, except I think it's a bit too dark when the moon is out. And I'm away from my computer while I'm overseas, but from what I recall, DCS does a good job with night
  3. I know it's a commercial aircraft, but let's not forget Concorde
  4. After spending the weekend with the new NTTR map, I still cant get enough of it. My biggest passion in life is aviation. And naturally I love flight simming, with commercial travel being my first love, but I also do very much enjoy combat sims. With NTTR and DCS 2.0, the immersion has reached a whole new level. The map and flight environment is so beautiful, that i just love taking the A-10 up and flying around the map exploring. I have just as much pleasure getting to my target as I do in dropping ordnance on it. Taking off from Nellis, passing the race track, turning north to get to the ranges while gaining altitude. I love putting the AP in path mode and just looking out the window at the beauty of the map. But my favorite part of the map? Is the history of it. Today for the first time I flew over the craters from when they did the nuke tests in the Nevada test site. It was so cool!!!! Even though its virtual, I thought of all the history that was here. How busy the area must have been during that time period. All the people, all the logistical support of testing the nukes. Very cool indeed. Then when flying around groom lake. Thinking about flying over the same terrain that so many cool aircraft flew over and having the same visuals as the real pilots! When they exploited the MiGs, the SR-71/A-12, U-2, F-117, they flew right here, where I am flying over in the sim. Idk, maybe I am being overly sentimental, but I guess thats just how much I enjoy aviation/history/simming.

  5. Haha just a xplane/FSX reunion here! I recognize you guys from the avsim forums
  6. Depends on aircraft, but yes you are correct, it is typically in degrees. However some, I know Airbus does this, use numbers. In the case of Airbus they have the position 1,2,3,4. And others, more so in the case of light GA aircraft have an up, takeoff, and landing position. I've never seen any aircraft use percent though
  7. +5
  8. disregard. i tried it again and everything looked good. wonder what was wrong the first time i tried it
  9. I just got the aircraft yesterday and got it up and running in 1.5. After flying around for a bit, I decided I wanted to have a Russian cockpit for that authentic feel. When I changed the cockpit to Russian in the game options, my cockpit textures got screwed up. I can see that things are labeled in Russian, however the cockpit textures are now like a strange silver. It's like it lost the texturing. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
  10. I thought that this might have been a leatherneck mig-21 issue, however i just purchased the belsimtek mig15 and the same thing happned today. Im running DCS 1.5 on a clean install. In the leatherneck, when i select use custom cockpit so i can have russian labels, the cockpit textures are off. There are random textures throughout the flight deck. And with the belsimtek its even worse, the cockpit is like a silver colored texture. The russian labels are there for both aircraft, its just the textures are all screwed up. Any idea what could be causing this?
  11. I too would rather have them implement the actual navigation system. But I'm of the belief that realism trumps all "gameplay" features
  12. I was flying around this morning just admiring the new 1.5 and the MiG. I was in a steep climb up to 35,000 and i pushed it over a bit too long and the engine flamed out, however i noticed that i was still producing a contrail. Not sure if this is a bug in the MiG or perhaps with DCS world?
  13. So i got 1.5 and the MiG-21 up and running tonight. I took it up for a quick spin without changing any assignments and using the default controls it gave my X52Pro. Everything worked fine. Then i went back to the main menu and added a few things to my throttle and stick. AP disengage, trim, lock, ect ect. Not making any changes to the Axis. When i went to go fly my throttle was not working. So i went into controls to take a look at the Thrust axis assignment and i see that it is now highlighted red? Its only for the MiG-21, the A-10 for example works fine. Any ideas as to what this could be?
  14. Sorry if this is a stupid question. But what is exactly the issue here? What do people mean by toggle vs on/off switches?
  15. Seriously, im with you on this. The F-14 was announced 1 day ago and already it seems like all anyone is talking about it is, "will it have A-G capability" and "can i drop PGMs with it?" And like you said, of all the aircraft out there, they do it with the F-14. Everyone was begging and praying for LN to do a F-14, im assuming knowing fully well that it was designed as strictly and A-A aircraft, and as soon as its announced all you read is people asking for A-G. If A-G is so important to everyone, they should have been asking for an F-15E. I find it almost hypocritical that people want a hardcore study sim of the F-14 and then they ask for A-G.
  16. Fair enough and very good points. Wasn't trying to be hostile. I guess my concern was that everyone wanting AG that LN would sacrifice some authenticity or realism for the sake of making people happy. But I guess that's what the point of releasing multiple variants is for!!
  17. I gotta say, I don't really understand all the commotion over the AG capability. The F-14 is probably one of the most requested aircraft and when it is finally announced all everyone is talking/asking about is the AG capability. The F-14 was primarily designed for the interceptor/air superiority role. AA combat is its main purpose. It would be the same as if when the A-10 was announced and all people talked about was its AA capabilities
  18. I leave for the middle east in August, I'm assuming it will be out more in the Fall/Winter time frame. But hopefully I'm wrong!!!!!!!!
  19. Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!! I've been waiting my whole life for good, high fidelity f-14 in a combat simulator! However, I'm sad I won't get to enjoy her upon release as I'll be deployed overseas next year. But you better believe I'll be getting her as soon as I get back!!
  20. Sorry if this has been answered, but i searched and could only find answers from the bearing pointer, not the desired course pointer. I just wan to clarify, the desired course pointer has one side that has a long hollow portion, and another that has a much shorter hollow portion. It is my understanding, and what i get from the manuals, that it is the side with the long hollow portion that is the head, correct? I looked at some real MiG-21 manuals and it almost seemed like they said the opposite so i thought i would ask for clarification. Thanks!
  21. Not sure how many on you are aware of a fellow that goes by the name Froogle on youtube. But he has a wonderful channel that he does videos on pertaining to flight simming. Mainly he does civil simulations, like FSX and XP10, but lately he has been including more DCS information. He recently posted a video on a exclusive video he received from Matt Wagner and thought I would share that here. If you are into flight simulation, I highly recommend subscribing to Froogle's channel!! Lots of good stuff on it!
  22. I currently am running a 4770K @ 4.4 with a gtx 670 FTW+, and am thinking about upgrading to either the GTX 970/980. My question is, what kind of performance increase could i expect with this upgrade? And also, is there a new line of cards coming out anytime soon that i should wait for instead? thanks Adam
  23. i just tried getting DCS world installed for the first time on my PC, i have bitdefender, and i still have the issue. i read here that the problem was fixed with an BD update, but it is still happening to me. is anyone else still having this problem? i tried reinstalling and still no go
  24. ill start off by saying that this is an absolutely fantastic sim. coming over from the MS flight sim platform, modern airliners are cake when it comes to this. im doing everything i can to wrap my head around this beast. one quick question though, how can i get the MAV and TGP to boresight? because i have a problem when i track something with the MAV and i overfly it and come back for another pass and the MAV seeker is pointed way out somewhere behind me and it takes forever for me to slew it back to the front of me, it would be a lot faster just to command it to boresight. or if anyone knows any other good tips for that? thanks adam
