I forgot to put that into my question, I meant to say when locking with radar and having the missile autoslave. Thanks for the reply and confirming my findings

Question about using the aim9x with the HMD. When not using the HMD and locking a target, the missile seeker automatically slaves to the target, no need to use the cage/uncage button. However, this does not happen with the HMD, at least for me. When using HMD and locking a target with radar, the seeker does not slabs. I have to manually place the seeker reticle over the target then hit uncage. Is this normal?

DCS used by Real World F-18 pilot Carrier Ops Instructional vid

He actually created his own YouTube channel after the support he received on his discord. Search “Lex Talionis” on YouTube to find him -
Came across this, haven’t seen it posted yet. Figured we can never have too much training material! This guy made an excellent video I thought, very well laid out. Forgot to add, this guy is a former Hornet driver who now instructs

I have mine uncaged always until I’m doing an approach. I’ll cage it in the pattern to make it easier to see my descent rate and then I’ll uncage it again on final to see my true trajectory. You could also cage it during cruise with a strong crosswind so that the VV is in the middle of the HUD

This is just a question for my general curiosity. How is the impact point calculated? The aircraft knows all of its information ie speed and altitude. But I’m assumimh it also needs the distance to impact point, where the reticle is pointed. I guess it could use math. If it knows altitude and distance over ground, it can solve for slant range? Or is there a sensor that ranges the distance, like a range finder?

[KNOWN] Carrier take off afterburner
uhntissbaby111 replied to FistofZen's topic in Bugs and Problems
I could be wrong, but the finger lifts are not for AB. They are to move the throttle from idle to cutoff. There is a slight detent for AB, but nothing to lift. I have noticed the same issue as OP. On carrier takeoff, the throttle won’t move into AB. Only after leaving the deck can you select AB. Land takeoffs are fine -
In my very short first impression I’m finding that it maintains 1G flight well. No need to trim. However, in landing config it’s totally different. I think trim is going to be the key for landing. Get it trimmed out for a good AOA and then you just need to adjust power to maintain descent rate

I understand what some1 is saying. He doesn't mean the head being in the same spot, he means each individual eye being in the same spot. Of course, without moving your head, if you close your dominant eye, then the object you are looking at will appear to shift. But what he is saying is, close your left eye, and look at the object with your right eye. Then close your right eye, and move your head a bit to the right so that the left eye is where the right eye was looking from, the picture should be the exact same as with the right eye because you are viewing the image from the exact same location as you were with the right eye. And he is saying that the images are not the same

Just looking for a little help with level bombing using the low drag bombs. From what I gather from the manual: as I'm approaching the target, master mode to ANF, I should see the reticle over my target waypoint, and then when I go weapon unsafe, I should see the reticle disappear and see a vertical tick along with the range on the bottom. And there is my problem, im not getting the radar ranging tick or range indication until after I overfly the target. Here is my setup. I set my waypoint to M3, the target, when I'm 20km or so out I switch mode to ANF. The reticle appears over the target, so far so good. I get a bit closer, drop down to 300 meters or so, and go unsafe. And all that happens is the reticle disappears. No radar ranging. I overfly the target, and then I get the tick and range info. So I have to turn around and that's when I get the release indications. Is it normal that I have to fly over the target first? Or am I missing something? I got my QFE set, weapon selected to Bomb Plan, tried all kinds of altitudes, cycling safe and unsafe, and no luck

Question on using the mission editor and selecting start time. By default, it seems like the mission editor assumes you will take off immediately after spawning and bases the time on targets on that. But say i do a ramp start and want to give myself 15 minutes to get everything set up, how do i do that? If i change the start time for waypoint 0, then the game will load me into the map screen and itll stay there until the start time, so that doesnt work. However, if i add time to waypoint 1, depending on how much time i add, sometimes the speed and time boxes turn red because the calculated ground speed is too slow for the aircraft and i cant start the mission. Is there any way around this? Can i manually set the takeoff time and time on target for each waypoint in game via the viggen computer? I looked through the manual but couldnt really find a definitive answer. Thanks for any help!

Thanks a bunch for the info! So i got the mouse stick switched to bands, and assigned the bands to a key stroke, yet its not registering in the game. I even tried one of the 2 way toggles on the stick base. I assigned it a keystroke, and then assigned that key stroke to something in the game and it didnt register. Any ideas? I saved the profile in the profile editor and made sure its active -

I originally wanted to use the throttle mouse as the radar but couldn't figure out how! Mind sharing how you assign it to the radar axis? -
Im sure everyone is busy learning this beast, i know i am!! Have the manual open on the laptop, youtube playing on the TV, and the viggen running on the PC haha. Just thought i would start this thread to allow us as a community to share idea, or ask questions, on how people are setting up their control mappings. I am using the x52pro and so far just have the basics set. Trim, autobrake, AP, and reference button. Still gotta figure out what im going to do for the radar stick and the rb05 control. Im thinking i can use the pinkie switch at the back of the joystick as a modifier and put the radar controls on the throttle and the operate when the switch is held. Using the throttle hat to control radar slew. The buttons are limited however so ill need to choose the most vital ones, and the ones that arent used as often ill leave on the keyboard. And then for the rb05 ill use the switch control function leatherneck has added and have one of the stick buttons act as the modifier for that. Ok, back to flying and learning!!

I don't think people realize how dark it gets at night, depending on moon. If there's no moon out, it's pitch black. The only way to see the horizon is try and see where the stars stop. If you don't have any source of light, you can't even see your hand in front of you. Now of course if there's a moon, things change. With a full moon you can see fairly well at night. The worst sim platform for night is FSX/P3D. Even with no moon you can see as if it's daylight. XP10 does a good job, except I think it's a bit too dark when the moon is out. And I'm away from my computer while I'm overseas, but from what I recall, DCS does a good job with night
