Yes, but only in my aerobatic demonstration. :D In combat circumstances, it never even crossed my mind to use the "I'M HERE" flares. ;)

Survey: Side Stick or Front and Center?
Frazer replied to polygonpusher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is the way I've set up my HOTAS (don't mind the old picture :D). Very simple, two chairs with two beer crates on them and a wooden plank with the HOTAS screwed in. You don't want to have the HOTAS to be on the table as that is simply too high for confortable control. The arm pads are there to prevent arm lock, or friction, while pulling in to loops during formation leading. They also protect your elbows from hurting after long flights. -
Pretty darn cool :joystick:

true true.....

Future will tell us who is right. Calling other forum members dumb for their way of thinking is ridiculous in my opinion.

Well, I flew gliders for about 6 years and I want to pick that up again (flying gliders is also relatively cheap). Next to that I do some photoflights over Holland (as photographer) every now and then. Thing is, the urge to fly a real helicopter is very big, even bigger to fly on airshows, the money isn't there though (I need a sponsor :D).
-
hehe yea, flying virtual is much much cheaper though ;) And by Dutch law, you must fly 25 hours with instructor no matter what.....

Would like to add, besides to the SFM there is nothing "old" about FC2.
-
awwwww :prop: I don't consider myself doing things that are not possible to do by others.

Would like to add this one: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=49721 Note the track.

Seen the fact that ED is saying "unlikely" and so, not ruling it out, I guess it is more dependant on marketing. Updating costs money, at some point they will have to bail FC2. Then again, I don't see too much trouble to update FC2. If DCS Blackshark needs to be compatible with DCS A10, it is not too hard to update FC2 aswell seen the file structure. We will see. We can all just guess, I think ED themselves don't even know it yet (referring to "unlikely"). After all, it's all about money.
-
Seen that FC2 basically has the same file structure as DCS:Blackshark I don't see any updating problem. If ED didn't want Lockon to be compatible with future DCS modules, why would they make FC2 in the first place? If you see FC2 as a module, the "only" thing ED needs to do is replace (patch) changed files in every module to keep compatibility up. When DCS:A10 comes out, you can make a compatibility patch for FC2 that removes the SFM A10. And so for every new module till all FC2 aircraft are moduled.

Welcome to the addiction SvenK! :D

They are indeed very similar, though some key parts have been replaced by metal (for a reason) and also some errors have taken out of the stick. Anyway, everyone has their own experience and in fact it also depends on what kind of flying you do and what you expect from a stick. The choice is up to you Cheezy ;)

The square landsight (low resolution) is what you get from the parameter L12. Set the L12 on at least 25000, also a good thing to do is to lower the far_clip = 100000; to something like 75000, this setting will bring the far edge of the world closer to you, together with it's haze (100km of viewing distance is VERY rare in reality). So, what you do is bring the (far clip) haze closer to you, and the (L12) land detail distance farther from you, which results in a better visibility balance, without losing FPS.

Did you guys have both?

Start where every pilot starts. Learning to fly. Put heading hold off and spend as long as you need flying around the airfield. Speed up, slow down, hover, turn in a hover and so on. Then when you have "the bitch" FULLY under control, start thinking of using it's systems and weapons. That's how I did it and how everyone should do it.

Some keys are indeed already mapped though most likely you will end up changing it to your own preferences. This is not a problem, as you learn the keys (functions) from that. There is no joystick that will have all the keys right in lockon after plugging in. If you want to buy the X52, go for the pro version (lasts longer, better quality) or wait for the HOTAS Warthog / buy the X65F.

Precaching segment in graphics.cfg and graphics_bs.cfg
Frazer replied to muamshai's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yes, distance of preload. If you have in game stuttering, this option may prevent some. This option doesn't matter much though (stuttering often has another reason). -
First of all, a stable 40 FPS is not bad. Secondly, you can leave your graphics card setting on high, since (like you noticed) this doesn't affect FPS much. Blackshark and FC2 are much more CPU (processor) bound than GPU (graphics card). Objects and visibility range greatly affect FPS. I suggest you to download and read through this thread: DCS Black Shark Tweak Guide Alpha Version DCS Blackshark has the same file structure as FC2, so you can use and learn about the settings and how they affect the game. Then we also have a good tweak thread here: link

Question about autorotation for helicopter professionals
Frazer replied to Pirke77's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yea that sim looks very neat, a little bit like the best of DCS and FSX combined, at the highest setting without any FPS issues. Definitely something you want to have in your garage :joystick: :D About the rotor stall, it was a very good lesson. It is very good to make that mistake in a simulator and not in reality ;) My conclusion about DCS Blackshark & real flying: BS helped me a lot flying this mi-8 sim well and I'm sure it is also a good training for any other helicopter, but I don't think you can fly any other helicopter without any mistakes as every aircraft has their own user manual. -
Got something different than a video, a replay of one of our LIVE shows. The display takes a total time of 50 minutes. So, in case you have some spare time and you want to enjoy the beauty of teamwork: VAT "Berkuts" display on VFA 2009 live stream replay. (you need Media Player Classic or VLC media player to run the video) In case you don't have some spare time: :)

Question about autorotation for helicopter professionals
Frazer replied to Pirke77's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I'm not sure about the real Ka-50 but I also think that DCS Blackshark is a bit too forgiving regarding (auto rotation) rotor stall. On MAKS 2009 I found out how quickly a "real" helicopter can get in to a rotor stall. I knew I had to lower the collective and I did, though not completely. Here is a video of the "accident": (engine cutoff at 08:35) -
You might want to think of a new stick ;) :joystick:

or just replace RotorKa50.wav with your favorite song :D
