The only complaint I can agree with, is the information about the two versions and what to expect, could have been announced a day or two before the store pre-order launch, as most lunatics from the DCS crowd (me included) will rush into the store the moment a new toy is available and not really doing research for different release model options.
Hmmmm ... I wonder if this partly explains @Wags comment in the Casmo interview that ED were surprised at how many people were buying just the 1st section rather than the whole map

Thanks mate for your settings ill have a go tomorrow and see if i can slow the movements down. Yesterday every slight touch of the TDC made it impossible to click on any object lol
Forgot mention a deadzone of 2 for this reason.

Ok so i can now control the TDC via my throttle mouse, how do i make it alot less sensitive? Is that part of axis settings?
Yes, you can tune the axis with curves. However the watchout there is that the Radar, SA and FLIR pages have very different base slew rates so it's a bit of a balancing act. I have mine set: Saturation X 100, Saturation Y 55, Curvature 31.

Easy comms or regular comms? Make sure you are using the right binding to pull up the radio menu. If you use "\" works for EASY comms but only works on the ground in regular comms. Should be something + "\" for normal comms.

The "Wheel brakes" under "Gears, brakes, and chute" are meant for a button. It will strictly give you all the way ON or all the way OFF.
The "Wheel brake lever" is an AXIS which means you can control how much braking you want with it. Press your "toe brake" on your rudder pedals half way and you get 1/2 ON. Press all the way and you get full ON etc.

Are you using VR with Oculus? If so check this thread:

Is the reason for splitting the map a technical issue?
Since if you buy the whole map you get, well, the whole map, I'd say there is no technical issue. They are saying it's so you can only buy the part(s) you want and to lower the financial entry barrier. It could also be to help those who maybe don't have enough disk space for the whole thing (esp. if they are only interested in one part).

Ok, so considering only the full-release pricing: there's one Full Afghanistan Map is $69.99 ("FA"), and then three sections sold separately -- Southwest ("SW"), East ("EA") and North ("NT") -- for high-detail portions of FA each at $29.99. OK, that's fair baseball.
But, will people who pay for all of SW, EA and NT eventually together, say, because of budgetary reasons (especially in these economically stressed times), then have access to the residual parts of the FA in high detail. Absent that, there would exist a $19.98 penalty for those people, at best inadvertently and at worst purposefully. Given that it is indeed one map, those who pay more in total for the three individual sections in SW, EA and NT should have the rest of FA's high detail bits unlocked if that isn't already the case.
It's fine many people will and can buy the full-fat map, but many also can't, so sections may be a welcome thing... as long as those who buy all the sections then get everything one-time FA buyers get, especially when the aggregate cost is higher.
Note: To be clear, I did indeed read the FAQ -- thrice -- and it is silent on the question about how multi-map purchasers will be treated if they get all three parts in lieu of the FA up front. I even doble-checked with my neighbour's cat to make sure I wasn't missing something. She concured.
I can't say for sure, but I'd be pretty confident that the areas outside the 3 map sections are ONLY provided in lower detail (to all users). There are sections of existing maps that are lower res, so that would make sense. So you'll pay more if you don't buy the whole thing at once, but you should get the same end result.

Is @Wags indicating it will be 2-3 more years before we see the Vulkan API in DCS World?
The way I read that is that Vulkan may arrive sooner, BUT to see the benefits of it may be 2-3 years as things get changed to use it effectively. ED have stated a number of times already (over a long period) that Vulkan IS NOT going to be an instant silver bullet for performance, but there are lots of people on the forums that seem to overlook this and are convinced it's going to have an immediate and massive impact.

Don't understand why I was quoted on this but okay.
I myself don't use the steam workaround. I use the oculus fix on page 16 of that thread.
Nvm, I see what you did there. SmartSorry, I just linked to that thread generally and you happened to have been the last post apparently.

One small point on the U-Tube stuff is to be careful because things may have changed since it was created. So if something doesn't work the way the video shows and it's more than a couple months old it's worth doing some digging to make sure their hasn't been a significant change (i.e. in the radar).

This thread will give you the details. You'll have to sort through it to find work arounds. ED patch with fix in it is planned for next Weds.
-
And 16 GB RAM with 4ish GB pagefile is going to be pretty marginal even for editing. With that low physical memory I'd definitely crank up the pagefile.
-
You're likely using the same key in both? Probably "\".
You need whatever you have bound under "COMM switch - COMM 1 (call radio menu)" (or the COMM 2 version) for non-easy comms. By default they will be RALT + \ and RCTRL + \.
-
You'll get much better answers if you add a track so people can see what you're doing (or missing).

Hey, didn't want to start a new thread but thought my question woud fit in here pretty nice.
Since you guys now launch Afghanistan in that new way, I was wondering, if you've considered maybe launching some new parts for Caucasus in the same way as well? I know, it's a free to play map and it is awesome Full Stop!
But i for myself would really would like to get some more points of interests into it. And this seems like a perfect opportunity for something like this.
Many ppl surely would like to see Crimea but I for myself would love to go for a spin above a high-res Istanbul.^^
Caucus was build on what is now a pretty old technology so the chances of adding anything to it are pretty slim. To do so they'd probably need/want to start from scratch and I don't see that happening.

I agree with YoYo. Check your mission because it has been working fine anywhere I've used it. Something makes me think that there was an edge case that maybe hadn't been fixed yet, but overall it should work.

What???
we want this map so bad, especially the A-stan veterans
we started with Steam for some reasons at the beginning but we are now unable to change to ED…
Anyway, we are not supposed to be ignored like this
And what would you like ED to do beside try and work something out with Steam? Short of buying Steam I'm not sure what more they could do. YOU chose Steam, ED didn't make you go there (since standalone has always existed). This is STEAM saying bugger off, not ED.

2D is gross...walkaround didn't work for me. I had to unplug the headset and uninstall the software entirely for it to make it past the splash screen. I dont use steam...just normal download..Rift S. Kind of thinking it's upgrade time...is anyone having this problem with something like the Pimax or anything else that is considered an upgrade from the rift s (everything I imagine by now)
This is very specifically an Oculus issue (and apparently not every combination with that as there are a few reports of people not having issues). Any device NOT using Oculus is fine.

I am having the same issue.I have a warthog HOTAS. I just reloaded the game and set the TDC slew in "Axis Commands" yesterday but when I went to use the TDC slew today it wasn't working. I check my bindings and it wasn't bound anymore. I tried to rebind but it was greyed out. Then I noticed that it now says "Vertical TDC Slew (mouse).
See the post by ITN above. You need to look for RDR CURSOR SWITCH - X/Y AXIS. If you don't have any controllers attached (other than mouse) it won't show up apparently (my editiing laptop didn't show it, but it has no controllers).

repairing didn't work
Since you didn't mention removing any, check your saved games folder for any mods. A repair won't touch that and they can cause issues.
