Yeah, I've seen this in DCSW as well, when the TGP jumps straight to say the geometric center of a building when entering point tracking mode.

Slack on TM HOTAS Warthog?
LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'd still apreciate if you posted videos of you moving your stick around center, just to show me how your stick handles. I wanna know if I am being too picky or if my worries are justified... Thanks! -
Yea, I always wondered what the usage of the pinkie switch is like... I usually just use the toward me and center position to switch off all ext light when fencing in, but never used the forward position...

Having a hard time landing without blowing tires
LostOblivion replied to reschke's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You wanna decrease speed slowly while landing, not slowing down to 120 ish and then holding the speed for landing. You wanna stay at 150 for approach, then 130 for final, then try land at around 120. That'll make flaring out easy and won't have your nose touch the moon. :) If there are crosswinds, you wanna crab towards the runway obviously, but you have to use the rudder to straighten out right before touching down, or the tires will skid horizontally and it will blow them. -

Alright, I've received a sticky vaucher from pixmania. I'll stick it to my package and send it to them and hope I'll get a new working hog. :) Better dust off my old X52 again... -
Slack on TM HOTAS Warthog?
LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Alright, I figured my stick was a bit off since it centers on everything between 32768 and 33666 in the X (usually around 33570), and between 32768 and 33030 in the Y. When I carefully move the stick left until the slack stops, I notice it always centers on 32768, and when I move the stick forward until the slack stops, it also stops at 32768. I don't really know what to make of this other than that the slack would be only in the positive directions of both axes, seeing as 32768 would be the real center it ideally should output. Maybe this means the plastic disk inside is a bit non-horizontal relative to the plastic ball it supports... -

Thank you very much Sov13t! I have replied to their email now, and I hope they will suggest the same for me as they did for Vapour, as we obviously have the same problem. -

Allright, thanks, this helps. I'll include your situation in my next email if that's okay with you? -

I see what you mean. I'm just not sure if I'm comfortable with it starting to get so loose after just 20 or so hours of usage. Not really sure what to do here. Let's say I cancel my RMA and stick with it (no pun intended). How does the hog look like inside? Is there something I could probably tighten myself to make it more dead center? -
Slack on TM HOTAS Warthog?

I received a reply from TM regarding my query and here is their response. "After watching the movies which you have provided us with, after comparing the movement of your joystick with the movement of the joysticks we have here for testing and after asking a second opinion from one of our engineer from the R&D department, we can inform you that the movement itself is a normal and because of the type of sensors that are located at the bottom of it game play shall not be effected." Meaning they aren't suggesting I send it in. Quite a big disappointment really, but I clearly stated that the game play is indeed being affected by this and that it is quite annoying, yet they claim me wrong obviously. It's just annoying if I do send it in and they send it back claiming it's "normal" and I have to pay for all the shipping fees. @Vapour, how does your stick slack and what did you say to TM and how did they respond? Do the videos I posted here resemble the problem you had? Can you make a video like I did just so I can compare it? I'm considering replying to them pushing my case and maybe linking to this thread for what it's worth. -

I did send TM a message asking whether this is normal or not. I have also required an RMA from my reseller. I am not going to attempt to fiddle with the thing myself, though, as most resellers will claim the warranty is void and reject my request if they think I've opened it myself. Having said that, it's probably just a loose screw. I'll keep you posted. Do you guys have any slack at all, or do you feel resistance right at the mm when you move it? I.e. is there absolutely no slack whatsoever? -
Slack on TM HOTAS Warthog?
LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well, I'm pretty sure it's ment to come in seperate parts, me having to attach the stick onto the housing on the plate, as the boxing forms it came with had the parts resting neatly in it. Maybe they just changed the boxing since when you bought it. As seen here: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5255/5488893183_cae5595a6e.jpg It's not a calibration issue, as there is just slack making me roll slightly to one side or the other, depending if I rest my hand on it slightly to the left or right while flying perfectly trimmed straight and level. -

LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Oh, when I got my TM the housing plate and the stick itself came in two pieces, having to screw it on myself. It's defenately not the tightening ring. Mine pops back too, but it's just the small amount of slack in the middle making me roll the aircraft when flying straight having trimmed the aircraft perfectly, but depening on how I rest my hand on it, the small amount of slack is making the aircraft roll slightly left or right. I've requred an RMA from my store, linking the vids. I hope I'll get it replaced. Thanks for the replies everyone. :) -

Oh? Did you manage to fix the problem? What screws would be the culprits? It's the "ball" thing attached to within the housing that is being a little loose. It's not much though, as I said only 2-4 mm measured from on top of the stick. On the ball itself this probably translates into 0.5 mm of slack. I made two vids showing what the slack is like. Top view: Bottom view: The annoying thing is that this is just above the threshold as to when it really makes a difference when flying... -

Hmmm. What do I do then? Ask my net shop to return it? Or talk to TM? -
Hey guys, I've had my TM HOTAS Warthog for a few weeks now, and I'm noticing there is some slack on the stick. It's not a real deadzone as the TM uses magnetic sensors, but I'm not getting any resistance when moving it left and right for a distance of about 2-4 mm (measured on top). If I move it more, there is the normal resistance obviously. Somewhat the same for forward/backward, but not so much. Anyone else having this? Also I'm not sure if it was this way since I got it or if I'm just getting worked up in the luxury of this thing. ;) Top view: Bottom view:

I'd love to see Afghanistan/middle east maps as well.

I agree, I suppose ED should spend more time making the AI a lot more raffined, as how it is now is sometimes desperately annoying. I know ED is focusing a lot on realism in it's own right and obviously down-priorotize aspects such as computer controlled air units over other stuff like model detail and flight dynamics accuracy, but as I believe A-10C brought a lot of "gamers", if that is even a term, into DCS, it would certainly be popular for them to consider spending time on improving the AI. This would also be something that'd transfer onto future modules as for fixed rotor aircraft, and would only benefit them in the long run. An example, is just how AIs fly straight ahead dangerously right into a hill, and don't seem to even notice it, and when 5-20 meters above ground, jolt up into the sky and then level out again... Rinse and repeat. Also, commanding AIs to not go below a minimum altitude is a good idea. (Ptroinks, I'm from Norway too!) :D

"yet he is still gunning on very hilly terrain. Usually when I try this on hilly terrain like in the video, the bullets never land where they should." still he fires pretty vertically down about 25-35o down.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
LostOblivion replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'd wait 6 more months for ED to drastically improve the AI and ATC before wanting a new plane. :) Also, any carrier A/C would be awesome, I'd LOVE to try out landing on a nimitz. ;) (I heard carrier pilots' pulse is higher when landing on a carrier, than it is when they're in combat.) :O -
Imo snow and rain should be implemented in another way. Like it is now, it seems snow and rain particles is rendered without applying camera transforms first, making particles appear to move around when you look around.

Not to mention having two forces fire at eachother in the mission editor, finding they don't LOS eachother because there's a very small hill just ahead of one of them. I'd go further and ask for a simplified 3D-view of the map (like TacView) accessible from within the mission editor.

Yes! Aircraft carrier ops with F/A-18s!

Hey, Would it be possible to implement slew "smoothing" on the TGP camera, modelling TGP gimbal motors starting and stopping, instead of the current instantanious camera movement when slewing. This video shows an example.
