Long thread so apologies if this has been asked and answered but it’s geared towards VR Users. My question is; Does this fix improve things for regular Monitor/head tracking users? TIA

NOTE: If you have the exact same motherboard as I do, it's your lucky day. If you don't the changes are fairly basic and you should be able to find the same settings in your BIOS with the only difference being the wording. I wish these MB manufacturers would just get together and standardize the lingo. Anyhoooooo - After the last big update I realized that I no longer need to use Process Lasso with DCS on my i9-14900k but I'm still seeing a lot of members claiming that they still need to use it so I thought I'd post my BIOS settings in case it helps. These settings may or may not eliminate the need for Process Lasso but since it worked for me I figure it may also work for you. Either way it will keep the 14900k running at 5.7Ghz, temps under 90c with voltage remaining under 1.3v and no 1.4-1.5volt spikes. My System as of March, 2024 - Phanteks (PH-ES620PTG-DBK01) Enthoo Pro 2 Full Tower - EVGA PSU 1200W - Intel® CoreTM i9-14900K - MSI MPG Z790 EDGE WIFI - CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) 6400MHz CL32 - MSI Ventus 3X GeForce RTX 3090 OC - thermal pad upgrade, much cooler now. - SAMSUNG 49-inch Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor | QHD, 240hz - Trackir 5 Professional Premium Head Tracking - **ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 360 A-RGB - Water Cooling PC, AIO** Apps you will need for testing: CinebenchR23 MSI Afterburner HWINFO 64 To start, make sure you have the latest BIOS release running Intel’s newest microcode update if you have not yet done that. **NOTE** Check your MB manufacturers web site for your Specific BIOS. This is the link for the latest Bios for my motherboard. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z790-EDGE-WIFI/support If you have already updated the BIOS, shut down windows and power down your system but don’t unplug the power. Proceed to reset the CMOS (CLEAR CMOS BUTTON) by holding down the little black button on the back panel at the top of your IO shield for 20 seconds. Sorry about the blurry pic. This will erase your all BIOS settings as well as profiles and place you back in the BIOS asking you what performance profile you would like. For now, just choose “Intel default settings (PL1: 253W)” Press F7 to get into Advanced Mode In the “OC” section make sure it is set to “Expert” Make sure P-Core Ratio Apply Mode is set to [All Core] Set P-Core Ratio to 57 to shoot for 5.7Ghz clock speed. NOTE: making this change will immediately flip your default performance profile from “Intel default settings (PL1: 253W)” to “MSI Unlimited Settings (PL1: 4096W)” so we will manually need to lock our power settings. Go into “Advanced CPU Configuration” Select “Long Duration Power Limit (W)” and set it to: 253 watts. Select “Short Duration Power Limit (W) and set it to 253 Select “CPU Current Limit (A)” and change it to 307 Ensure XMP is enabled. If you are like me and running 4 sticks of memory keep XMP *DISABLED* and in the “OC” section scroll down to “Memory Try It!” And set your memory timing profile. This is an easier and faster way for the layman to get the desired performance out of all 4 sticks of RAM without having to tinker with individual memory timings. Whatever your boost clock is, drop it down by 1000Mhz to run stable. For example, I am running 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance RAM 4x32Gb rated @6400Mhz boost clock (XMP) but I needed drop it down to “DDR5 - 5400 CL36” to run stable. Save your settings and boot into Windows. Your BIOS *should* successfully make the changes and boot into Windows. If it doesn’t and it flips you back into the BIOS, don’t worry. I’ve had this issue as well. It’s just because you are asking the BIOS to make a lot of changes so just shut down the PC entirely and reboot. The next time around Windows should come up. If it doesn’t, try it again and it should work. Now that windows is up and running shut it down again and go back into the BIOS to get your voltage and voltage spikes under control. Once in the BIOS, go back into the “OC” section and select “DigitALL Power” Select “CPU Loadline Calibration Control” and set it to “Mode 7” to start. If you can run stable in “Mode 7”, try bumping it down to “Mode 6” to keep your voltages low and stable with no spiking but don’t bring it down too much. Loadline Calibration Control, ensures the 14900k gets the power it needs under load without letting the voltage spike or get too high so lowering it too much may not give the CPU the power to handle certain apps/programs and cause instability. Open up HWINFO and CinebenchR23 and place the windows next to each other on your monitor. Run ONE cycle of Cinebench to see where you score and keep an eye on your max Core VIDs and your max Vcore. They should hold under 1.3volts showing the same numbers. A few millivolts difference (.005 - .010) is normal. That’s pretty much it. You can play around with Load line calibration to make sure DCS runs stable but other than that you shouldn't need to make any other changes. With this setup (and proper cooling) you should be able to hit 5.7Ghz and remain under 90c under load keeping your power requests and power draws under 1.3volts. Intel says you can go as high as 1.55 volts and they may be right but I don't trust Intel given the shady way they tried to deny the voltage and degradation issues. Hope this helps.

It’s 2024 and I’m running the latest Simmapp pro update. this problem is STILL around. I get it every time I plug in my HOTAS. This did NOT exist prior to the release of their latest update.

Wow the fear mongering continues. WE CAN’T POSSIBLY HAVE AUTO AAR!!!! People Will….. Will….. Will NOT GIT-GUD!!! AND IT’S GONNA MAKE OTHERS NOT GIT-GUD!!!! And players will, Ugh - USE IT!!!! OH NO!!! PANIC!!!! Really now? Offer the choice and let players decide where on the skill spectrum they want to be. They paid for the game and everything they need to run it. Squadrons can pick and choose their recruitment criteria and do what they want. Because they also have a choice. what is soooooo scary about that?!!! The reality is that It’s more inclusive and some of the hardcore players here don’t want it why????? - Because they learned it the hard way and feel robbed if they see “noobs” do it automatically….. And that makes them mad. That’s all I can discern from that kind of thinking. It has absolutely nothing to do with killing a brand or making things de-evolve into Ace Combat, which is what the critics here want you to think. Popcorn anyone?

Your 12th Gen is power hungry. Make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date and you should have a look at your CPU voltage settings (Vcore Voltage) as well as your memory voltages and timings. I’m running a very hot and power hungry 14900k and I was having the same issues until I tweaked my voltage and memory settings. It took some time to learn the tech lingo but DCS is butter smooth now. No issues whatsoever. DM me if you want to set up a time to look at your bios and see what can be changed but I’d encourage you to do some searches in the overclock.net Forums and see if you can find something specific to your motherboard. Mine is an MSI Z790 mpg WIFI Edge with 14900k and 128Gb memory coupled with an RTX 3090 on a 2 TB M.2 drive. - DCS is on its own M.2 2TB drive. I use Process lasso to lock the cores for DCS with all cores unpacked via Windows registry.

That’s an opinion and one that I would disagree with. OVERALL? Bro, come on. I’d argue that overall most don’t give a crap if it’s a choice or not and those that argue against it are in the minority vs those that want it… But we can agree to disagree.

But you’re not addressing the appeal that AUTO AAR would have for new (and as another discussion suggested, older players in their golden years) if it was offered as a choice so let’s have that conversation, shall we? You’ve been clear about the reasons why YOU wouldn’t use it…. OK, that’s you. See what I mean?

Oh we have auto pilot lol…. We just hardly get to use it. Not a lot of glassy smooth waves you can surf on the upper Ottawa where you can sit back and chill with little to no paddle adjustments But if you’re keen to learn I’ll teach you Dude, no one is arguing the rewarding feeling of accomplishment when you finally do learn to AAR. I completely agree with you there….. But that’s not what this discussion is about.

If you want to argue why it’s not needed then please explain why, by your own admission, you feel it keeps getting brought up. We can have a civil conversation about it but I don’t understand why people who don’t agree are so keen to point out how many times it’s been brought up AND flat out refuse to address the reasons why. If we can do this then we can move forward and help DCS make a better product. Suggesting DCS just; “stay the course and people need to STFU because hey! I learned it the hard way!” Doesn’t benefit the very intent of this forum section known as the “DCS core wish list”

Again, completely missing the entire point of this discussion while making false proclamations on behalf of the company. You know as well as I do that companies exist to make a profit just as much as they do to make a product they are passionate about so please explain to me why you’re against ED making a product that would appeal to more players by offering more options and choices that allows them to immerse themselves in the game faster and then move onto joining a group or squad when they are ready to take it to the next level? Why are you so against that? Also, you do realize that this discussion exists in a section of the forum that ED and DCS setup to get a pulse on what players would like to see developed. So we have people here who understand the need for it but others who jump in to try to shame and shut down anyone pointing out the reasons why it would improve the game. The naysayers and the ridiculous arguments I’m reading make no sense. In my younger days I taught white water kayaking. I NEVER held back any tips and tricks and never forced students into learning something the way I learned it just because I learned it that way. I taught them using as many different ways I could to help them experience their moments positively so that they can build the confidence and passion to continue and improve. Never did I tell a student that “this is the way we’ve always done it so you have to do it this way too.”

Sounds a little like; “Yeah I’m fine with it but here are some reasons why I’m also not fine with it and not fine with people being fine with it.“ Why does it bug you so much? If DCS offered this feature, you would be able to turn it off and on just like any assists the game currently offers…. So why?

The elitist fanboys argue realism but cry and run back to “git gud” when someone tells them that DCS should have any type of choice or assistants in the game. I’ve read forum posts from new and seasoned pilots asking for DCS to add audible warnings from the crew when refuelling. Simple things like “30 - 20 - 10 - contact…” or; “Entering left/right turn” or; “up - down - back - forward…” while on the boom. And, just because they asked for it, they get piled on by players who learned it despite this touch of *realism* that would have helped them if they had it with they were learning. Basically it’s the - “I didn’t have it when I was learning but since I can’t take a second to step out of my own skin and admit that this is more realistic, I’ll just try to harass and shame anyone who wants a better experience.” - Attitude. So you want realism but not if it helps pilots enjoy the game and not if you didn’t have it when you were learning, got it! Maybe we shouldn’t have LSO’s or the fresnel lens system. Let’s be tough guys and hand fly it in by guessing. This strikes a nerve with me because when I learn something in DCS and teach my friends how to do it I try to add as many tips and tricks to help them succeed. I want them to succeed by any means possible, not hold them back to “teach them the hard way.” It’s an archaic and counterproductive way of thinking that does nothing but turn people off. When we have a choice it’s BETTER, not worse.

Again, this is about CHOICE, not realism. You wanna treat this game like you're a real life fighter pilot, fill yer boots. It doesn't mean everyone else needs to be as hard core. More choice, more new pilots, more diversity in game and more money for ED.

A great feature that gives new players and players not used to combat sims the OPTION to auto refuel. Not arguing it’s realism. What I am arguing is the appeal of having the OPTION so that new players can fly with friends and in servers and on long missions without the fear and anxiety of losing an hour or more of their flying experience just because they ran out of gas trying to tank. Wanna attract MORE customers and make MORE money? Do this. Falcon 4.0 had it from the get go and wouldn’t you know it. I still learned how to AAR on my own even though I used that feature all the time while trying to learn it.

I’m using the MSI MPG Edge Wifi DDR5 and now have this voltage issue under control. For those who can cross interpret this info here are my settings. - Using the latest non beta released microcode. Profile set to MSI performance 253W. Wattage capped at 253 - Voltage capped at 1.33v That’s it. Load Lone Calibration and “Lite Load” are both on auto. Everything else is on Auto. core clocks are in the 5.6/5.7 range HWINFO64 reveals Core VIDs under 1.4 (that’s just the voltage the cores are ASKING FOR. It doesn’t mean they are getting it) Vcore voltage max is 1.238-1.3. Average Vcore hovers in the 1.1 range. Under load nothing exceeds 1.3 volts and temps don’t even reach 70c except for a brief spike when Windows starts up. DCS runs cool with temps well under 70c no stuttering and no lock ups or CTDs. PM me if you want to know more.

I’ve been tinkering with my 14900k since I built my rig in February and it’s a constant battle to get this thing under control. A few things that have really made a difference since the latest MSI Z790 BIOS. 1. run intel default settings and leave it like that. The frequency may say 3.20 base clock but even on Intel default settings the chip ramps up to 5.67Ghz under load. It actually runs great and very cool and stable using this one profile.No tinkering necessary. 2. I also disabled hyper threading and Ecores and it runs great. I haven’t yet tried DCS with HT and Ecores disabled but I did try it with just Intel default settings and it runs great and cool. Temps did not exceed 80c. I’ll let you know how it runs on #2. When I have a chance. Either way I’m still RMA-ing this chip as I’d rather gamble on a better batch the second time around. I just need to build up to courage to go through their PAINFUL experience as they do it on purpose to discourage their customers from making warranty claims.

I’m guessing this is because 40NM is the farthest range for any Fox3 missile’s highest POK (probability of kill). At angels 30 I usually launch at 35 miles and then notch as I dive, then go cold once the missile is at roughly 15 miles. By then the missile is on its terminal path and usually seeks out the enemy fairly easily. You don’t want to go too far beyond that as battery power is modeled into the fox3’s. This means that they can only track for a minute or so until the battery runs out and the missile goes stupid. I could be wrong about this so feel free to correct.

Many thanks @currenthill. Your contributions are what help make this game fun and enjoyably with this “out of the box” thinking for those who like having fun with DCS vs just flying it as a strict sim. Having CHOICE like this makes it better IMHO.

I agree with this. @currenthill It would be a shame to restrict it to content creators only since I’m sure many would like to try it in single player. I highly doubt these OP missiles would even be allowed on most servers regardless of wether or not it passes an integrity check. If you could please share it with the rest of us it would be greatly appreciated.

I know the F4 view will never render the internals of the cockpit like the F1 view. The F1 camera controls for inside the cockpit will give you the high res cockpit but it can’t do a floating camera view panning over the controls as shown in the video. I’ll keep digging but thanks for the replies If anyone knows how, please share.
