Inzwischen habe ich die neuen Plexiglas-Teile erhalten und alles zusammengebaut. Ein paar Feinarbeiten und Korrekturen müssen noch gemacht werden. EDIT: Noch ein paar Fotos. Bin am überlegen, ob ich die Tasten an den Seiten lackieren soll, so dass da kein Licht mehr austritt...

There is also a company in Berlin that laser-cuts Plexiglas with high precision according to your plans at a very affordable price. I ordered the parts of my CDU (backplate, lightplate, buttons*) from them and I am quite happy with the results. All parts matched perfectly. However I do not know whether they deliver to the UK. * I made the buttons myself from three layers of transparent Plexiglas glued together. I may post photos later.

Auf dem Bild fehlen die beiden oberen Layer des Panels, weshalb die Tasten alle wie Kraut und Rüben haltlos verstreut sind und alles leuchtet. Leider hatte ich in diesem ersten Versuch den falschen Klebstoff verwendet, so dass die Teile des Panels und der Tasten überall kleben blieben, nur nicht dort, wo sie sollten. Entsprechend sind die Tasten und die beiden oberen Schichten des Panels schief und passen nicht zusammen. Dummerweise hatte ich keine Klebeprobe gemacht. Ich werde die Plexiglas-Teile nochmal bestellen nachdem ich die Pläne etwas überarbeitet habe und die Teile dann mit einem Alleskleber auf Cyanacrylatbasis verkleben. Damit habe ich ein paar Probeklebungen mit vielversprechendem Ergebnis gemacht. Zur Zeit arbeite ich noch an der Software zur Kommunikation zwischen dem DCS Export.lua Skript und der Elektronik (Arduino). Die Software für den Arduino funktioniert schon. Die Taster sind über Multiplexer an den Arduino geschlossen, so dass für 80 Tasten nur 9 I/O Pins benötigt werden. Die Elektronik sieht auch gleich einen Anschluss für die Schalter des Auxiliary Avionics Panels (APP) mit vor. Außerdem steuert der Arduino auch die Helligkeit der Hintergrundbeleuchtung passend zur Einstellung in der Sim. Für die Beleuchtung verwende ich Hochleistungs-Dioden. Die sind zwar relativ teuer aber erzeugen ein ähnlich helles Grün wie die Beleuchtung des Thrustmaster Warthog Throttles. (Auf dem Bild arbeiten die LEDs nur mit ca 1/4 ihrer Maximalleistung). Bei mir wird es vorerst bei der CDU bleiben aber langfristig werde ich wohl weitere Panels nachbauen. Das nächste Ziel ist erstmal ein Simpit, also Konsolen und Sitz. Bisher habe ich noch keinen Schreiner gefunden, der sich drauf eingelassen hat.

I don't know what I did but now the resolution shows up when clicking on "Show all modes" and the display works fine. What was a bit confusing to me is that the 640x480 resolutions were listed somewhere in the middle of the list and not at the top where I expected them. Maybe I just overlooked them :music_whistling: Anyway, thanks for your help! EDIT: Here is the reference material of the display.

Ich habe kürzlich nach langer Suche einen Versandhändler in Deutschland gefunden, der Open-Frame Monitore (auch im 4:3 format) mit VGA und Composite (Video) Anschluss zu einem vernünftigen Preis anbietet. Ich habe dort auch schon bestellt und die sind echt schnell beim Liefern. Ich habe das Display an einem DVI-zu-VGA Adapter an direkt an der Grafikkarte angeschlossen und nach anfänglichen Problemen unter Windows 8 die richtige Auflösung einzustellen läuft jetzt alles super. Hier ein paar Bilder von dem Display im Prototypen meiner CDU (habe das Panel beim Verkleben unbrauchbar gemacht). Die Bilder habe ich mit meinem Handy aufgenommen, weshalb die Qualität suboptimal ist. Die Panels hatte ich bei einer Firma in Berlin mit einem Lasercutter schneiden lassen. Das geht relativ simpel und ist preislich auch ok. Man muss denen lediglich eine Bild-Datei schicken, welche die zu schneidenden und die zu gravierenden Umrisse und Flächen enthält. Das auf deren Webseite alles sehr ausführlich beschrieben. Die Qualität der Schnitte und Gravuren ist super. Der Preis richtet sich nach Aufwand und wird einem beim Hochladen der Entwürfe schon verbindlich ausgerechnet. Für eine der Frontplatten der CDU habe ich um die 10 Euro inkl. Material bezahlt. Ich poste mal ein paar Fotos sobald ich die neuen "guten" Panels für die CDU habe.

Thanks for the hint. I tried it and it does not list the desired resolution after clicking on "All Modes". My thought was that maybe Windows 8 blocks lower resolutions but I could not find anything useful on the Net yet. In the meanwhile I also tried a different DVI to VGA connector but unfortunately it still does not work. Further I tried using the 3.5" display with my notebook and have the same problems there (it has an Nvidia NVS 3100 and a VGA connector).

I have a 3.5" display supporting a resolution of 640x480 and I cannot select this resolution in Windows 8. The lowest resolution I can select in the display settings dialog is 1024x768. Since some of you are also using such displays and may have encountered similar problems, I hope that someone can give me some hints on how to solve this problem :helpsmilie: I am using a Nvidia GTX 670 and the display is connected to one of the DVI ports using a DVI to VGA converter. On the other DVI port I have a Dell 24" monitor. The HDMI and Display Port connectors are unused. I already set up a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel for the 3.5" display and when testing this resolution the display even works and correctly displays my desktop. However, as soon as the test is over the display gets blank. Further, I cannot activate the custom resolution neither in the Nvidia control panel nor in the Windows display settings dialog. Maybe someone has some ideas...

According to their webshop this costs 128.000 YEN per piece, which is about 1.030 Euros or 1.400 USD and quite expensive in my opinion.

Assume I have two computers and I own DCS A-10C and FC3. Am I allowed to run DCS A-10C on one computer and FC3 on the other computer at the same time, i.e. may I play DCS A-10C while my friend is playing FC3?

Die erste Stufe des Triggers stabilisiert bei aktiviertem PAC die Fluglage der A-10C und hält damit das Fadenkreuz der Bordkanone auf einem Punkt am Boden, so dass die Geschosse zentriert an diesem Punkt einschlagen und nicht wandern. Das ist extrem hilfreich beim Beschuss schwer gepanzerter Ziele (z.B. T-80 und T-90 MBTs), bei denen man für einen effektiven Abschuss das Feuer auf bestimmte Fahrzeugbereiche (z.B. das Heck oder den Turm) konzentrieren sollte. PAC ist aber hinderlich, wenn man die Geschosse bewusst wandern lassen will, z.B., um eine Kolonne von leicht bis gar nicht gepanzerten Zielen (z.B. Schützenpanzer und LKWs) in einem Anflug in Fahrtrichtung auszuschalten. Fazit: Ohne zweiten Trigger (genauer ohne PAC) wird das Zielen und damit das Zerstören stark gepanzerter Fahrzeuge (wie MBTs) schwieriger. Falls man einen programmierbaren Joystick mit nur einer Trigger-Stufe hat, dann kann man PAC auch auf den ersten Trigger programmieren, so dass PAC beim Feuern der Bordkanone automatisch mit ausgelöst wird. Ist zwar nicht genau das selbe wie bei einem zweistufigen Trigger, bei dem man auch ohne die Waffe abzufeuern das Fadenkreuz stabilisieren kann, aber es ist ein guter Workaround.

A few days ago I stumbled across the Speedmaster flight sim seat (Thrustmaster news, Speedmaster website) and I wonder whether someone already made some experiences with this thing and could report on it. I could not find any reviews on this seat on the web (only on the racing seats, which seem to be excellent).

Hat inzwischen jemand den Speedmaster Flight mal ausprobiert? Ich mache gerade die selben Überlegungen wie der TE.

This sometimes happens to me as well. I then just wait a few minutes and then it usually works again. Retyping the password sometimes also helped.

This seems to be normal. Many people have reported this issue. Mine has it too.

The Nvidia GTX 6xx types of video cards typically come with 2 DVI connectors, an HDMI connector and a Display Port connector, which can all be used at the same time. So you should be able to connect and use up to four displays at the same time using all these connectors. At least this works at with my GTX 670 card. The performance of the GTX 670 (4 GB version) using 3 full HD 27" displays was not that good in DCS though and in the end I preferred going back to one single screen since the low frame rate (about 10-20 fps in very crowded missions) killed my immersion. However, with a high-end CPU (I have an old Intel Core i7 920 overclocked to 3.2GHz) and a GTX 680 or 690 you may have acceptable results.

Some time ago I found a file on the Internet that defines macros for the keyboard buttons using USB key codes. This made things a lot easier for me and greatly improved the readability of my target scripts. The file is attached to this post. The USB key codes for the numpad can be found at line 82 and the following. Download and install HELIOS and look at the Export.lua it installs in your DCS folder. That's a good starting point.

There is one thing to note: When using the mixed configuration (different monitors with different resolutions) Nvidia 2D Surround seemed to somehow compensate the size difference of the pixels on the 27" screens and the 24" screen. At least the picture looked consistent on all three screens despite the different resolutions and pixel sizes. However, it also seemed to me that the performance was worse than compared to the setup with three identical screens. Anyway, using the triple screen setup with three identical screens, in the A-10C campaign missions my framerate was somewhere between 18-30 fps. Personally, I found the sim to eb more immersible with higher framerates and decided to go back to a double screen setup using one screen for the main view and one for the instruments export, where I have something around 55-60 fps on maxed out graphics settings (with vsync enabled).

For testing purposes I mixed a 24" screen with a 1920x1200 resolution (center) with two Asus VE276Q 27" screens with a 1920x1080 resolution (left and right) on a GTX 670 with 4GB. Nvidia 2D Surround adjusts the resolution on all three screens and scales the picture such that everything looks right (i.e., no distortions and bezel compensation) on all three monitors with different resolutions. However, the performance was worse with the mixed screen configuration than it was when I used the three identical Asus VE276Q 27" screens. Anyway, I went back to my double screen setup (one for main view and one for the MFDs and gauges) for performance reasons. While the GTX 670 is a very powerful card, it is still not powerful enough to run a triple-screen setup with DCS - at least not in my system that is based on an Intel Core i7 920 overclocked to 3.2GHz and 12 GB RAM.
