CH Fighterstick + X45 or TM Warthog + wait till sale
Waxi replied to Witchking's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I switched from the X45 to the Warthog more than one year ago and in my opinion it was definitely worth the upgrade. However, since the X45 is not a bad HOTAS (I still have mine lying around), I would not buy the Fighterstick, save the money and go for the Warthog as soon as you can afford it. -
Does anyone know whether FC3 works with Lock On Platinum?

Thanks for sharing. This is very interesting since I never managed to get Lua to talk to the serial port and my Arduinos. I will definitely look into your stuff.

Advice needed for Audrino lcd type setup home cockpit
Waxi replied to BIGNEWY's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I am about to build an Arduino-powered pit myself and use a similar approach as described at mbroecker.com (note that this is not my website). Specifically, I use the Export.lua script of Helios, which allows to send inputs and get outputs from DCS using UDP packets. I wrote a C# program that understands the Helios UDP packets and tells my Arduinos that are connected to my pit hardware (switches, LEDs, LCDs, etc.) what to do. Moreover, my Arduinos talk to the C# software, which then tells DCS what to do. Since my C# program is hacked together and not very well tested, I do not want to share it in its current stage. Note that Helios is planned to support Arduino-powered cockpit hardware in the future. Gadroc, the maker of Helios, is working on Arduino libraries that allow easy integration of Arduino-based pit hardware into Helios. -
Note that a 27" screen will be a bit too small to fully cover real-sized MFCDs. So in case you want to have MFCDs that are as big as the real ones, then you probably have to use a 30" screen. However, if you are planning to use the Thrustmaster MFCD frames and buttons, which are smaller than the real A-10C ones, then a 27'' screen is sufficient.

Here is another guy in Germany who is willing to pay for a pre-cut ACESII kit.

Actually it's not my page. I just found it on the web. As I said, I am using the Export.lua provided by HELIOS, which is available here.
-
Looking at the Export.lua from HELIOS helped me a lot to understand how Export.lua works. In principle, you could use the Export.lua from HELIOS and program your Arduino to understand the message format used by HELIOS. Since I plan to use inexpensive self-made boards based on ATmega microcontrollers instead of full-fledged Arduino boards in my final components, I am currently using the Export.lua from HELIOS and a kind of extended TCP to serial bridge programmed in C#, which works pretty well so far. A discussion of both approaches (TCP bridge vs. direct Ethernet) can be found at the bottom of this website.

Today I received my cover set. Great work. Thanks Deadman

Die Tail-Fuze löst bei den MK-82AIR den Fallschirm aus. Der Zweck der Tail-Fuze bei anderen Bomben ist mir auch nicht klar.

Why does the plane drag to the right on takeoff
Waxi replied to Darren's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
There is a yaw trim knob on the forward left console, which should allow trimming the rudder. (I don't know if it works since I have never used it so far.) -
I am also still patiently waiting in Germany and looking forward to get my covers. I will let you know when I got them.

I occasionally have problems locking Mavericks on targets with an EO time larger than 45 minutes. Turning EO off and back on again solves the issue and the Maverick works fine again. So it seems that Maverick sensor overheating is somehow modeled.

Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to get mine ;-)

What does it mean "lock fps" and how does it work? -
I would love to buy one plain set.

Palit GTX 580 3GB bought - opinions?
Waxi replied to msalama's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have a Gigabyte GTX 580 SuperOverclock Edition (GV-N580SO-15I) with 1.5 GB VRAM and, since patching to 1.1.1.1 I also suffer from heavy stutters at airbases. Otherwise the sim runs super smooth. -
Deadman, are you still selling these great Warthog covers?

I performed several tests and it seems that independent of what I enter into the CDU WIND page, the bomblets on the parachutes always drift away significantly with the wind. Interestingly, the wind data entered into the mission editor is the same as shown at the briefing screen but is different from what the CDU shows in the mission. However, neither data (the plain and reversed wind data from the mission editor and the briefing screen nor the data shown by the CDU) brings the bomblets closer to the targets. I was successful in manually compensating for the wind by setting the SOI for a CCRP release off the (stationary) target against the direction of the wind. However, since I estimated the required offset empirically (i.e., by dropping a "test bomb" and observing where it opens), this seems not to be practical.

I was entering the wind data into the CDU as given on the mission briefing screen. Do I have to invert the wind directions indicated at the briefing screen as well or can I enter them into the CDU as they are given?

I realized that the miss of my CBU-97s was probably not due to insufficient or wrong lead aim but due to the strong wind in the Devil's Cross campaign missions. I created a training mission with no wind and could always hit at least half of the vehicles in the column. After I added wind (5 m/s, 90 at sea level; 5m/s, 90 at 2,000ft; 10 m/s, 135 at 8,000ft as in the second stage of the Devil's Cross campaign missions) I could hardly hit stationary targets with the CBU-97s in CCRP, even when using the WIND settings in the CDU.

Yeah, I could take out a column of about 10 BTRs with almost only one salvo from the gun! You just have to disable PAC, line up with the column's moving direction, aim for the last vehicle of the column and hit the trigger. The bullets will be spread over the whole column by the recoil of the gun. That's really fun and effective ;-)
