I was actually in a server with a 104th member and asked what happened to the server. The response was it will be back someday. Must be sorting things out, I dunno.

Rudder pedals make me a better pilot?
Username455 replied to Username455's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Without changing the topic too much, is there a YouTube video or guide on how to effectively use the rudder? If I need to relearn using rudders, I should probably know what I'm trying to accomplish. And quicksilver, thank you for your honest input.. You are keeping me from blindly buying haha. I will pay attention to my current rudder usage and let you know what happens. But my goal is to fly as realistically as possible, which got me interested in the first place. Really wish I could find a flight school nearby so I knew what I was doing haha -
Rudder pedals make me a better pilot?
Username455 replied to Username455's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well obviously I use the twist rudder for nose wheel steering, and I also use it for gun runs (although I read somewhere you aren't supposed to do that?) but what I don't use rudder for is turns. In cross wind landings I will use rudder, but sometimes I just roll the aircraft into the wind instead. And I agree that I would have to relearn using rudder with my feet, but I also notice it is hard to twist the rudder axis without adding pitch or roll. Do most people with rudder pedals use them constantly, with every turn, landing, gun run etc? Are they worth $100+ Thanks for the replies -
Rudder pedals make me a better pilot?
Username455 posted a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey guys, another question for you :) I currently use the x52 twist for rudder, although it isn't the easiest thing to use. So a lot of time I don't end up using it in turns. I'm not a pilot by any stretch haha, but using rudder correctly eliminates slip and conserves energy correct? Something like that? So would having rudder pedals (probably the saitek ones) and learning to use them, help me out much in the air? Would you buy the rudder pedals over the twist rudder? (is it worth it) if it is, are the saitek ones a good choice? Thanks! -
This looks interesting, always fun to learn a new aircraft. I bet it sounds pretty sweet in the cockpit too. Hopefully you release a playable version (beta or full) before August so I have a chance to try it out!

I replayed the training missions over and over till they were automatic, then read guides/watched YouTube videos to learn new things. When it turned into a chore more than fun, I goofed off in the instant action missions, which is actually where I learned most of the weapon systems (just clicking buttons hehe). Keep it fun, keep it interesting :) YouTube is your friend

haha I know what ts3 is, but I didnt know there was a community server. Ive been wanting to find people to fly with for months now! I got my controls set up for falcon, and flying it is fairly simple. I just need to learn the weapons now. Hopefully not too much longer till Im ready for a coop flight

hey those notes would be great if you dont mind. also, what is this ts3 server you speak of?

Hey I just got Falcon 4 today and also BMS. Probably a little bit too nooby for you, but I am in Central time zone and available almost everyday, pretty much anytime :) I just need to get a handle on the basics first, so maybe in a week or so hehe

Hi there, To fire a MAV, you need to lock the target with TMS up short. Also, I recommend scanning the area with the TGP first, as it is a far better tool at spotting enemies than the MAV seeker :). So, find your target with the TGP and make it SPI with TMS up long. Then switch to the MAV screen on the MFCD and press china hat forward long, which will slew the seeker to your previously created SPI (your target). From there, hit TMS up short (when in range) and weapon release :). I'm sure there are youtube videos that go over it in complete detail but thats the gist of it. As for finding targets, use the TGP and be patient. It gets somewhat easier with practice, although it can still be tough. Just slew the TGP around, usually starting with the waypoint where enemies are known to be ;). You can also use the zoom keys / and * and use your eyes, but that is pretty tough. If you do use the TGP, higher elevation gives you more time over the area and a larger viewing area which makes it considerably easier

wow that gave me such a good idea, cant believe I never thought of it before! I made a small mission to help me practice sam evasion. I set myself as immortal though to see how many passes across 3 SA-9's (12 sam's total) I could make haha! It is a blast, although I need a lot of practice. Another reason to keep flying :joystick: I notice I need to pay more attention to how much chaff/flares Im spewing out my back end! I'll attach it in case you're interested. I have little experience with the editor, so I'm not sure which enemy unit would be best to practice against. Also it would be nice to give them an infinite amount of sams to shoot at me! Also a track to see how it goes :) SAM.miz SAM.trk

I want to get into flight sims and this game but...
Username455 replied to Flacracker's topic in Chit-Chat
This was my very first flight sim (well second if you count wings of prey) but all I had was the x52 pro. Thats all you need, a joystick. The thing is, once you play this sim you realize you dont NEED all the extras, but you will really really WANT all the extras haha. I used FacetracknoIR (free face tracking) for over 6 months before getting trackIR for christmas and enjoyed every bit of my time in the air. Plus, at only $20 you should buy now! It will be so much more rewarding than the $50 and $60 games available these days -
FacetrackNoIR not working ingame in A10c (64bit)
Username455 replied to SDD64's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
even if your account has admin rights, you still have to run things as admin. Two ways to do this: either right click the shortcut and click "run as administrator" or right click shortcut, click properties. Under compatibility tab, check the box "run this program as administrator". This will run it as admin every time, while the previous method only runs it as admin for that instance. good luck -

Do you run both DCS a10 and Facetracknoir as administrator? I always had troubles if I didnt Also, do you have the hotkeys for pause/start set up within the facetracknoir software? You can try toggling those to see if you get a response -
"Budget-Solutions" for HOTAS Joystick?
Username455 replied to SDD64's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
what are you trying to use the slider for? look up user curves.. you can make 3-5 distinct levels of input each with their own deadzone. So if you use it for zoom for example, you would have the default, then a medium zoom, and a maximum zoom. Its not a smooth zoom but it works. I do not use the user curves but I have seen a post on these forums about it. I have zoom mapped to a rotary and while it does shake sometimes, it is definitely usable. Also, in the saitek control panel you can set additional dead zones. What are you trying to use the slider for exactly? -

well, perhaps the x52 isnt the best stick around, but it definitely does everything and more for this sim. regarding your issues: Which axis are acting weird? if its the slider/rotary, then yes those do have some involuntary input but can be fixed with by adding deadzone within DCS if you even have them mapped for anything. the MFD is useless, but why do you need it? its not a screen only text.. just ignore it I think any stick/profile combination is better with TrackIR :) you can always change a hat to perform as a POV. Otherwise I say stick with your profile, use your numpad keys, and save for TrackIR. Or, like I did, use facetracknoir for free until someone buys you trackIR as a gift :) you can easily turn off all the lights if you desire. On the stick, below the MFD, the roll wheel on the right lowers the MFD brightness. click the wheel, now roll it, and the stick lights will dim. You can have them completely off, or just dimmed as I do. Turning off the MFD will stop it from flickering I use the SFJackbauer profile, which makes no use of the mode switches. Just using the stick, and the pinky shift button give me more than enough buttons to completely control the warthog. So, dont give up! The x52, while no TM warthog, is a great stick. Its accurate enough to perform all the tricky maneuvers in this sim, and has enough buttons to be efficient on the battlefield. Happy flying! and Merry Christmas! -
Yes, happens to me quite often on multiplayer servers when trying to land at senaki. Some maps it works , some it doesnt

Hey beers, did you have to do any tweaks to windows or anything to get it to fit on your SSD? That is great to hear that all those programs fit on a 55gb ssd with room to spare since I keep reading 64gb ssd are too small! I would love an SSD for a boot/DCS drive, but I can't see myself paying for more than 64gb.

You're welcome :) happy landings!!

sure thing, I will post 2. One you cant see your wings, the other is considerably easier, but still need to use instruments most of the way :) They are both pretty simple, you start pretty much on the glide slope about 10miles away so its good practice of watching the instruments. you can move the start location in the ME if you want to practice finding the glide slope though. I have an ILS landing mission at batumi set up just fine. Maybe I dont know exactly what you are trying to do, but set fog visibility to whatever you want (I used 100m) and then thickness to max. You wont see much! also, I think clouds were at 300m, with max thickness (which doesnt affect the mission since thickness of clouds goes upwards), and density was 9 or 10. But fog is the setting you want to adjust.

Greetings from a new pilot..and a n00b question or two
Username455 replied to d0c.snak3's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I have the x52 pro and its great. Plenty of buttons to do the job well. Also, look into Track IR. If you dont want to spend that money, look into freetrack or facetracknoir (free alternatives). Also, make sure force feedback isnt enabled in the options menu (I think its on by default?) I heard that can cause weird behavior with sticks, might fix the pitch issue. Or it may just be trimming as suggested above -
Definitely more stable now, especially when turning to look behind you. I havent had it lose my face yet which is awesome! Still some small jitters when trying to focus on one point, but definitely improved. If anyone was fed up with previous versions, they should give this one a try. been using 30 smoothing, 80min, 80max, 40 curve fyi.
