  1. Until the creater of icontrol see's this thread, I'll answer as best I can. It is not possible to have the mfcd on the iPad without displaying on the screen. If you have a second monitor you can place them there though. For the fps, When setting up icontrol, set the quality of the images sent to the iPad to medium. You can also try low. Another option is to disable windows aero (vista or 7) It is not possible to put both mfcds on the iPad at once, until the update I believe.. Don't quote me on that Finally, if you swipe across the iPad and accidentally hit a button in the process you get that error. Try swiping in a location with no touchable buttons That's the best I can offer as a simple user
  2. Thanks everyone for quick replies! gotta love this community. I will work on getting a basic track of takeoff/maneuvers/landing so you guys can watch. I will also try a curve of 30, although that sounds a bit high. and... utter facepalm with the donut. sorry, dunno why I thought it was speed. my airspeed when landing is usually 120 or so, with no payload. When I go faster, I generally bounce. and when I add the little flare at the end, I usually just gain altitude haha :(
  3. Hey all, can someone point me in the direction of a basic flight guide? I am having more and more trouble lately flying "well". I can only make a level turn extremely slowly, and even then its not smooth. I constantly stall, or at least get the beep warning. and trying the ILS landing, I can not for the life of me keep my aircraft in the air. It just drops and drops even though im holding back on the stick. but the donut is there! my speed is right? I probably need to configure curve settings as well, because I have a hard time lining up the aircraft with waypoints or targets. by the way, is it normal to be able to pull back on the stick more than pushing it forward? I can climb (and stall) real quick, but diving takes noticebly longer. anyways, some sort of help guide would be nice. The manual doesnt talk about flying too much and I suck at it. rant over
  4. awesome! I've been waiting :) good work!
  5. Haha me too, I feel like I'm not worthy for online yet, after seeing YouTube videos. It does look pretty awesome though. This sim is good in so many ways
  6. hey guys, Ive been trying some landings, and have some questions.. Should I be looking for that donut for the entire approach? or only when getting closer to the runway? It was having me go ~110 and it was extremely hard to keep my altitude to stay on the glideslope. I actually landed in the grass before the runway haha. Am I doing it correctly? When you begin the descent, is there a lot of trimming involved to counter the decreased airspeed? I find myself constantly trimming to keep my nose from dipping into the ground. funny, I can land successfully but when I try and use the glideslope properly it feels awful. Thought of another question: is there a way that I am missing to set speed brakes to 40%? or do people just eyeball 40%?
  7. Well I did a quick test, maybe someone can confirm. If you view a track with headtracking (facetracknoir for me) the track will work until you change views. I saved the track first, then viewed straight from the debriefing page. However you won't see where you were looking during your flight since you control the view. When I switched views to external my track took a different course and ended with me flying into the ground. Then I went to replays and loaded the same track. Before it started loading I stopped facetracknoir. Here I could see all the switches I pressed, all the head movements I made, and all the camera changes. The only thing that didn't work was when I got shot down and had to respawn, cockpit view was stuck zoomed in on the front panels. So maybe someone can confirm that tracks work with headtracking enabled as long as you don't change views, and also they should work with headtracking disabled before the track starts.
  8. Thanks Caldwell, I guess I can try reinstalling dcs. Slightly off topic, can I uninstall/reinstall without losing my control settings? Do I just make a backup of my .lua? will tracks still work? Fishbot, I have smoothing on at 10, min at 70, max at 70, and curve at 10. You can use that as a starting point. For curve I like to give lots of movement in pitch, yaw, and zoom and just a little movement in roll, x, and y. Deadzone around 5 or so.
  9. Hey caldwell, I'm glad to know it works without error. If it's not too much to ask, can you give a play by play on how you setup/installed it? I know it's in The readme but I followed that too, at least as far as I know. Jmod, I had that trouble too in the beginning. Here is what I did to get it working (not sure if all are necessary). First, download the file from V4Friend. Then, right click the zip file ->properties-> click unblock->click ok. Now extract the whole folder headtrack. Place the entire folder in the dcs a10/bin folder. Then try again. That should get rid of the crash on mission start, as well as the lock up when trying to access options. Also make sure facetracknoir protocol is freetrack not fake trackir. The only issue now is when I exit a mission, dcs a10 says it's not responding then closes. Then the main page loads up with my track, asking to save, fly again. So I'm not actually losing anything when the game crashes, it's just a little annoying
  10. I'll agree with this tread. I'm a newbie myself.. Even asked this forum if I should bother buying this game since I have zero sim experience. It was intimidating, but well worth it. If you love flight then that's all you need. Take the time to set up your controls and then go! You'll get the hang of it either through the training, these forums, or trial and error. Just yesterday I learned to use the maverick, ccrp, and ccip (well sorta, might not be able to repeat) and it was a blast!! And remember, I have no idea what I'm doing haha! Disclaimer: this game will probably make you want to spend lots and lots of money. I'm looking at multiple monitors, rudder pedals, trackIR(upgrade from facetracknoir), and multiple iPad apps! Anything to add to the experience :)
  11. just like to add that tracks are hit and miss for me as well, in either the 32 bit or 64 bit version. Some tracks playback perfectly, in any view, with facetracknoir running. Others show me shooting my guns into the ground and crashing. I had 1 pretty awesome flight (for me atleast :) ) but the track is completely different unfortunately.
  12. hey V4Friend, Just like to add that I got the 64bit working, but DCS crashes at the end of every mission like previously stated. I have not tried the 32bit version yet, but I will let you know what happens
  13. Thanks so much! Can't wait to get off work to try this out. Quick question, is it possible to still use the numpad keys for zoom in/out while using facetrack? I haven't gotten it to work
  14. Thanks SFJackBauer, this is a great profile. definitely got me started much quicker than doing it by myself haha. I am having trouble with the radio commands though. What exactly did you assign to the 3 mfd buttons? (newb here)
  15. actually I just recently started messing with those settings, and with the min at 70-80 I did see an improvement. I will try setting the max and the curve to around 90 as well. Thanks for the advice!
  16. can someone who has had success with facetrack post up some settings (v1.5)? my view bounces around erratically making it impossible to flip switches and such. I've tried with more smoothing (up to 40) but all that does is add input lag on top of the bouncing
  17. wow awesome replies, thank you guys! I actually purchased an x52 pro, knowing I wanted to a flight sim. I just needed a push in the right direction. Also, I see there is an ipad app for this game which looked awesome. I think I will be purchasing this now and enjoying a lot of great flights, and a great community by the looks of it!
  18. Hello everyone, I am on the fence about getting this game. It would be my first true sim game which makes it a little daunting. I hear this is very complex (but with that comes great reward). Would someone with almost 0 flying experience still enjoy this game? Is the "game" mode good enough for a beginner to get started on to enjoy a few missions? I have always been fascinated by flying so I will be eager to learn, but I don't want to be completely lost, frustrated, and quit. What do you think?
