  1. My 2 cents on this: GPU: If money isn't an issue, 2080 Ti is hardly overkill for VR in DCS and getting a good experience. 2080S will be faster than 2070S and will get better performance. Now is that better performance worth the price difference to you? If he played on your setup and loved it, you running a 2080ti, I would say go with the 2080ti. Otherwise, go with the 2070/2080S but don't expect the same performance as the 2080ti. CPU: As it stands now, you want the fastest chip (most Mghz per core) you can get rather than chips with more cores but at a lower speed as that is what DCS engine thrives on. Whether that is AMD or Intel...typically Intel pulls ahead in single core/gaming focused applications, but I've been out of the CPU game for over a year and not sure where the line is drawn now.
  2. Ryzen's IPC has greatly improved with this generation, to the point where the difference in IPC is for all practical purposes is equal to the Intel counterpart....which is awesome. However, no matter how you slice the cake, being equal clock for clock, higher speed is higher speed no matter if it's in VR or traditional screen; so Intel, at least in gaming applications, will push out ahead based on pure speed. This has manifested if pretty much every gaming review/benchmark I have seen, including the one you posted, just scroll down to gaming. That being said, I myself am waiting for some DSC benchmarks as I would love to go back to AMD...I really miss the days of Athlon XP 1700 and 2500...those were beasts.
  3. DCS engine is still heavily bound to pure core speed, so Intel with higher speeds will do slightly better than Ryzen which from limited benchmarks is topping out around 4.4-4.6Ghz. That being said, after all the windows/Intel vulnerability patches, there's no telling how gimped Intel will be.
  4. While I had an absolute awesome buying experience with my MCG Pro purchase, got it within a week and half of placing an order (one of the first batches they released), trying to get my hands on the warthog adapter has been almost a total opposite. I've been stalking the site for what seems like forever, hoping it would pop back up. Should have bought it when I bought my stick/base, but I also didn't think it would be this big of an issue. Not an absolute deal breaker for me as I love my MCG Pro stick/base, but has me giving competitors much more of a consideration for my next purchase of a throttle/rudder pedals.
  5. I'm jealous! All of my attempts so far ended up with me bouncing off of the deck or as a burnt ketchup stain on the back of the carrier. My practice needs more practice. That, however, looked bloody gorgeous!:thumbup::thumbup:
  6. Mine was doing the same thing in VR, however, seems to work when running in traditional mode (non vr).
  7. If it's still fast you can reduce the saturation on the axis. I dropped my saturation for 50 and put in a 25 curve. Smooth as butter and precise.
  8. Unfortunately, a significant amount of people seem to have little to no grasp on what it takes to run a business and develop a product. Thinking companies just poop out a product with an "excessive" price tag just to make a quick buck from Joe-consumer.
  9. 33. Started with Top Gun for Dendy (Russian knock-off Nintendo..Google it) when I was around 10; it was the only game cartridge I owned other than the Mario/Duckhunt/Olypics cartridge that came with the system. Played that game till the cartridge died and blowing on it no longer did the trick, easily over 1000 hours. That was it until 1997 when I came to the States. My old man bought F/A 18 Hornet 3.0 and Janes ATF; the rest is history.
  10. Just wanted drop in here and tell you how awesome this add-on is. Best couple of bucks I've spent on DCS, hands down. Will be picking up the chatter add-on this weekend. I've only scratched the surface of what it can do, but It has been invaluable to me in VR, fantastic work.
  11. Make sure the stick is plugged all the way in. There should be 0 clearance (flush) between the stick collar and the base.
  12. Hah, I've had the Rift for about 72 hrs....and already can't wait for whats next.
  13. Haha, learn something new every day. I did not know you could use the mouse to navigate the comms menu. Also, what do you mean when you refer to PTT? I'm assuming it means push-to-talk, however, I do understand the context in relation to DCS. Do no use Simple Radio...I'm pretty much a "newb" when it comes to anything other than vanilla DCS.
  14. I looked at Jabber's settings and we seem to be in the same ballpark. As of right now, I haven't encountered any stuttering issues other than the initial stuff I reported earlier, which has be solved...somehow. I do have SSD's though, for both OS and DCS...I guess I should put that in the sig as well. As for the A10C....yeah I do feel a little dirty about not having it. When I got into DCS I was all about the helicopters (Ka-50 was my first encounter with DCS). Since then, I've transitioned more towards fixed wing and pick up a module or two every sale. Figured I'd stick with the F5 for a while, get my feet wet as she's pretty simple. Also have a Spit and the Mustang, but boy are those some unruly bastards on takeoff and landing. I also snagged the UH-1 this last sale, that will probably keep me busy until the Hornet comes. All that being said...I did encounter a new issue with VR. The comms menu. I'm guessing everyone is using VAICOM?
  15. If you had to upgrade, I would go with a GPU as that will give you the biggest boost. But like Rico said, I would start saving your pennies for a ground up build, though 2600 is no slouch... But not in a locked-out dell.
  16. I don't have the A10c module (shame I know) so I can't speak of that, but I can get my settings and such. What I noticed from my short play time I had this morning, Nevada stays mostly at 90fps with some dips into 45, but still smooth. Normandy, in a Spit, it's pretty much stays at 45 with some jumps to 90. Attached are my current VR settings, and its smooth in Nevada and Normandy. Granted, I only tested this in single player. As for the resolution, its....well, it's what is expected. You aren't going to get crisp graphics like you would on a 1080p/4k monitor. The gauges are hard to read sometimes without leaning in, however, I have no issues with reading anything on the HUD. The visibility of the gauges varies from plane to plane and is best on WW2 birds (big, uncluttered gauges). Spotting, at least to me right now, is problematic and is going to get some getting used to and tweaking the settings. Am I unhappy with the results? Not in the least. Like I mentioned earlier, it has opened up a whole new window into the sim that you can't get anywhere else short of becoming a fighter pilot. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely, mainly in the resolution department. When/if Pimax 8k delivers....oh boy, let's just say I'll have to buy the wife something really nice and shiny. For now, I'll keep playing with the settings to see what I can squeeze out. One thing is for sure, it's going to be hard to make myself play DCS without VR.
  17. So...I went to take a screenshot of the settings and realized that I was no longer seeing any stutter/ghosting when panning. Nothing has changed since last night other than I shut my PC down and booted back up this morning. Maybe it needed a nap? Lol. Anyway, so now that that's gone all I can say is WOW. The immersion factor is through the roof. I hopped in to an F5E over Nevada and when I did an inverted dive to the deck....I felt my stomach drop as if I was on a coaster. Then as I was carving up the canyons, few hundred ft above the ground, I was almost getting motion sickness :pilotfly::joystick:. As for the SDE, its there and I see it as soon as I think about it, however, once I pulled it my mind seems to filter it out and I don't notice it. Now, the reading of the gauges....yikes, but I knew that going in. I will try playing around with the settings see if I can give it a nudge in the right direction. As far as sensors go? Where do you guys have yours placed? I have mine on my desk, on either side of my monitor approximately 3-4ft apart. According to the initial setup, it's not ideal....but seems to work. May have to play around with that too.
  18. The 1080ti that's in my signature.
  19. I just got my Rift hooked up for the first time and having some mixed emotions. The post-install Oculus demo (one where you interact with the Wall-E looking robot) is awesome and smooth, life is good. I fire up DCS 1.5 and 2.2, using VR preset in DCS with PD of 1.7, and it's stutter city. Everything is buttery smooth, until I try to pan around the cockpit....and then it looks like I'm dragging the screen around. As soon as I stop moving my head, it's smooth again. Am I missing something or is this working as "intended?"
  20. I would start looking at RMA-ing the card. But, before you do so, try uninstalling the Gigabyte Aorus overclock engine/utility and use MSI afterburner instead. When I had my 1080ti Aorus (non-extreme) it was unstable using the Gigabyte utility right out of the box, so I switched to Afterburner and it solved the problem. The issue was that Aorus Engine was applying voltage/speeds that card could not handle. That being said, I still returned my card (thumbs up for Amazon) and picked up an EVGA reference card for watercooling. Haven't looked back.
  21. I've only been playing this game for a couple of days, but from what I understand once the left engine spins up you no longer need the APU gen since at that point your left engine is providing the power via generator. Alternatively, you can just hit the the master caution button to manually silence the warning. However, as I said, I've only been playing for a few days so I may very well be off base here.
