  1. So is the intention for there to be a "Fly Mission" button in the Briefing Room, and that will load you into the cockpit?
  2. I'm not trying to be a punk, but that's only partially true, isn't it? There are systems - like the datalink - that are a weird magic box pretty divorced from reality. Where did the design of that magic box come from? It's not a real system, and the real systems are classified or export-controlled. So either you just make them up, or they're carefully calibrated to reflect non-classified word of mouth on how the real system sort of works. The real EM-performance of the F-18 is classified or export-controlled. The performance of the DCS jet is an estimate, based on incomplete documents that aren't classified or export-controlled. If you could not make some sort of estimates not 100% based on sourceable documents, we would not have an aircraft and you would not have our $80. We get it. You have a fine line to walk. But it seems disingenuous to say "We 100% can't do this without a sourceable document" when there's plenty of stuff on the jet for which you obviously can't point to a sourceable document.
  3. Hey Bignewy, I'm still looking for a more "official" version, but I've found Wags mention it at least once, in a Mudspike interview: https://www.mudspike.com/mudspike-ama-with-eagle-dynamics-senior-producer-matt-wagner/
  4. This is all very interesting for the real world, but I don't think it really pertains to the issue at hand. I've tried a few other DCS jets with pressurized cockpits (F-18, F-16) and the pilot doesn't exhibit a hypoxic effect when the cabin alt is below about 18,000 feet. The F-14 has a cockpit alt gauge right there, reading 8,000 feet, and the pilot still goes hypoxic. I know this is a pretty niche bug, but with a more complete damage model - oxygen system failure with an intact canopy, say - it could become important.
  5. I seem to remember that when Supercarrier was first announced there was a feature listing of being able to walk to your jet (presumably from the paraloft?) I haven't heard anything about this in years or seen it on the roadmap, but it sure seemed cool. Is it still planned?
  6. With the roadmap posts increasingly pointing to ED calling the F-18 "out of early access," any chance we can get some insight into the numerous problems noted in this thread? There's no mention of art updates/fixes in the roadmap. It would be pretty disappointing to see the module go to "released" with holes in the cockpit, missing bolts and brackets (literally right in front of the pilot's eyes on the towel racks), untextured objects in plain sight...
  7. If RL Mavericks need to be boresighted every time they're used, the omission of this function seems to be pretty glaring (especially if the F-16C has it). ED, are there any plans to bring a boresight process to the F/A-18C?
  8. It's a real drag, and ironic that they're leaning on Raven One pretty hard on the DCS home page while their updates completely borked it. None of that is BD's fault, of course. I keep thinking I'll design a campaign one of these days, and then I remember that making missions in DCS is like wrestling a greased bear while super high on mescaline. It's easily the best campaign I've played, but I'll stop at M12 until everything is fixed.
  9. This is a very, very minor issue, but I've noticed something I believe is not accurate to the aircraft. I keep forgetting to switch on the oxygen when doing a cold start (I know, I know), and start noticing the "hypoxic" blur effect at about 22-24,000 feet. However, the F-14 has a pressurized cockpit. According to the NATOPS manual (page 2-165), the pressure altitude up to 25,000 feet should be 8,000 feet (where obviously hypoxia is not an issue), and then increases to a 5psi differential. With an intact, pressurized canopy, you really shouldn't see hypoxia develop until the aircraft is up around 50,000 feet. Yes, I know I should just remember to turn on the oxygen.
  10. At the beginning of Mission 10, all four Spartan F-14s on the deck fail to start. I've gone through all my startup procedures three times, gotten the yellow shirt image, and they're still uncontrolled (no pilots). Because they're in front of Cats 1 and 2 this causes a traffic jam, so nobody takes off after the helo (and I am stuck, since the player start position is hemmed in by the Spartans). I've looked at the file in the ME and Spartan 3 is set to "Uncontrolled", so there must be a trigger failing to fire somewhere. Not sure if it's related, but they're also missing the "Start" action in the Triggered Actions tab.
  11. I can't speculate on whether the real jet has any way to do this, but in-sim I know of no solution you can effect from the cockpit. The closest I think you'll get is the F10 map, which displays elevation at a cursor position. You'll have to mouse around until you get the right coordinates. Pretty awkward.
  12. No real spoilers. Just. Baltic Dragon, you devious bastard. I kept thinking it must be a bug, or I was doing something wrong. Nope. Part of the mission design. Brilliant.
  13. Hey gang, I'm having issues with all of the mod aircraft I have installed: F-22 Rafale Eurofighter As AI, they refuse to launch any BVR shots. The F22 will launch AIM-120s, but only from a few hundred yards away. The Rafale and Eurofighter won't launch anything but IR weapons, no matter the loadout - and when they don't have any IR missiles, they go directly for guns. I've tried with the 120C/D on the F-22, the 120 and Meteor on the Eurofighter, and the Meteor on the Rafale. I've also set all aircraf to "use radar for continuous search" and "launch bvr missiles at max range" in a test mission. No joy. Has anyone else gotten any of these aircraft to use BVR missiles?
  14. I flew my first two months with the sim without even a joystick. It is not pretty but it can be done. Aerial refueling is a bit tricky though. :)
  15. Jesus, in the bird strike photo gallery somebody posted... What'd that F-111 hit, an ostrich? That thing is mangled.
  16. Thanks for the advice, I will try that. On a related note, I've been having some issues with radio range for the JTAC in this mission. Does the sim actually model terrain masking radio signals (he's in rough terrain)? I have to be right on top of him before he responds to my check in.
  17. Hey all, More inane editor questions again despite the fact that I will certainly never finish this campaign I am building. Is there a way to force a JTAC to switch directed targets after he has already given a 9-line but before you make your attack? I am making a mission where as you approach a group of enemies one of the vehicles flees from the area. So far I've set a trigger where when the fleeing vehicle enters a trigger zone the JTAC assigns it as a group...but he won't "disengage" the target he's already vectored you to until either you destroy it or you check out and check back in. Best I can think to do right now is a Group Msg from the JTAC saying, "Blah blah blah get the car first etc". Hmm.
  18. Ho all, Curious as to how accurate it is that all the in-game startup checklists and procedures I've seen don't test any of the manual/backup flight controls at all. At least in BMS Falcon checking the backup flight controls is a big part of the startup checklists. Is this accurate as far as real-world A-10 operation? Thanks!
  19. So... Is it still the case as of 1.1.1.0 that friendly ground radars of any type will not show up on the RWR? Also, in a mission I am working on enemy EWRs (55G6 and 1L13) are not showing up on the RWR either. Closer-range search and track radars (ships, SAMs) are working properly but the EWRs don't show up. Threat guides seem to indicate they should at least show up as an unknown.
  20. What about the two circular projections on the lower left and right side of the nose, on each side of the gun? Laser illumination sensors?
  21. Must be nice to have so much money you're ordering people to find things for you to buy... :sorcerer:
  22. Hello all, I've searched about and been unable to find anything like a guide to the A-10C's external features, i.e. antennas, pitots, bumps and ridges. Found one for the F-16 but no A-10. Anyone have anything? I'd especially like to know what the long rectangular box on the spine between the engines is. Is this the APU inlet? And how about the circular shallow domed object right behind the cockpit?
  23. The X-Plane 10 terrain is actually vastly improved from X-Plane 9 (at least in screenshots, that's all I've seen of it so far). http://www.x-plane.com/wp/wp-content/gallery/more-v10-landscapes/kc-10_13.jpg http://www.x-plane.com/wp/wp-content/gallery/the-x-plane-10-world-is-dawning/KSMX.jpg Also, finally an accurate backyard parasol simulator: http://www.x-plane.com/wp/wp-content/gallery/the-living-breathing-x-plane-10-world/screen-shot-2011-11-06-at-3-30-47-am.png Hope there's some actual 3d pits though; those 2d build-a-panel things are atrocious.
  24. Just want to give ED some inspiration; kind of amazing that a civilian sim has aircraft carriers that look this incredible. http://www.x-plane.com/wp/wp-content/gallery/the-seas/cl415v8_18.jpg Pull out the stops for the Super Hornet module!
  25. Excellent thank you.
