  1. Jerry Maguire style ... You had me at Windows Key + Home Key with Black Shark ... ;)
  2. With IL-2 1946 and previous editions it was just press 'I', take off and watch your engine temps. In CLOD they stepped it up a notch - turn on fuel pumps, warm up engine, etc etc but still no where near as detailed as FSX or DCS.
  3. I agree Oleg's creation may not have been up to the standard of detail as DCS but there is no question he did produce a very successful product by flight simulator standards and I'm sure he would add value to DCS even as a consultant. I started flying IL-2 when Forgotten Battles came out, I've flown a little LOMAC (not much of a modern jet fan) and various FSX WW2 Plane add ons (Accusims P-47 + Classic Hangers FW-190). I've always wanted a sim that had FSX flight systems / LOMAC fidelity but in a WW2 setting ... it's finally starting to take shape with DCS and I'm one happy simmer right now.
  4. Finally! A simulator that will model WW2 aircraft systems properly. Maybe be Oleg will make a comeback ;)
  5. There's another issue that you all seem to forget. If DCS were to integrate TS into DCSW, TS would want royalties. With DCSW being free, that's another cost I'd say they would want to avoid.
  6. Me a couple of mates played Dangerous Waters in exactly that fashion. One could do sonar, the other weapons / navigation and the other the Capitan, was heaps of fun.
  7. What an odd thing to say  I don't have any issue with any DRM, and never did. I just fired up Silent Hunter 5 the other day, it installed UPlay, updated it, I did have to hunt down my old login details but it wasn't their fault. Once sorted I logged in and I'm off. I never understand why people hate DRM's, the only reason I can think of is their pro-pirating themselves or they're miss-informed.
  8. If I was going to record a jet engine sound I rekon I'd get away with recording my wife's vacuum cleaner behind my helmet ;)
  9. Well at least you chose a great Aussie song ;)
  10. Got a link for the YouTube videos? The problem I've seen with most recording methods is developers don't use a proper human set up to record sounds, they just stick a stereo mic near the source. I've always thought the proper way to record sounds would be to stick two mics inside a mannequin's head one each side to record L and R sounds. If you want to record the sounds of what a pilot hears then have the pilot wear the mics inside his helmet. Sure the sounds would be muffled but they'd be realistic. Similar to this ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_recording
  11. Nothing special. I just cleared any profile I had for DCS in CCC. Then installed RadeonPro and played around with the settings. First I turned everything to default in CCC, DCS and RP. Eventually I found that just having the CF setting to supertile or scissor in RP made everything smooth. AFR turns DCS into a slide show for me, in fact all my games turn into a slide show with AFR. Yet others have no issue. The more I'm using RadeonPro the more I see what AMD have hidden from the end user in CCC, and I don't understand why they do it. Yes they'd probably turn around and say we fear the end user will destroy the card, well I'd say it's user beware. If AMD released CCC with the same functionality as RadeonPro, I think they're sell a lot more cards because this is the first time I've been able to get full utilisation out of my 7970's since buying them almost a year ago.
  12. What's that got to do with anything?
  13. I was getting OK frames when I disabled XFire, but not great, but with the resolution I run and having a 2nd GPU I was tearing my hair out trying to get to work right. I gave up back in Dec but after seeing this thread and seeing there was a new patch I'd thought I'd give it another go ... I couldn't be happier with how DCS is running now. :pilotfly:
  14. You are a life saver my friend. I'm so stoked!!! I played around with RadeonPro like you've described. I found that setting the XFire slider to Supertile gave me the best results. I'm now getting much higher FPS than before. Haven't done extensive testing but I've noticed an average of 40 to 60 FPS, it still dips when there is a lot of smoke but nothing like before, min I've seen is 25 and both my GPUs are averaging 80% usage.
  15. I can't wait to fly it. I hope it's going to be modeled as good as the Pony.
  16. Ah ha ... thanks for clearing that up.
  17. Is the FW-190 going to be a DCS product or 3rd Party add-on?
  18. Ah .. cool thanks.
  19. Forgive me, fairly new to DCS ... what does the above mean / relate too?
  20. Hi All, Towsim ... did you get a response? Brydling ... is it still available?
  21. Very nice pit mate.
  22. Yeah, I had to supply the sheets but that is a given with this sort of project. I provided the shop with .dxf files that geneb created (post #91). I'm happy to build it myself but my carpentry skills are novice at best and I would have saved a ton of time getting it cut by cnc. On the plus side, I'm going to enjoy the challenge. I saw your cnc machine in the other thread, how much did that set you back? More than a couple of sheep I bet ;)
  23. Agreed. Back on topic, well sorta. What is a good usb controller for making custom panels? I'm looking at these one ... http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=76_81&zenid=lebi7672n8157hm3t15co4eti3
