  1. This is one thing everybody needs to take into account when trying to compare frame rates and frame times - you need to have a standardised approach when benchmarking performance in DCS. Ideally ED would create a benchmark tool so the whole community has a standard test to run so accurate comparisons can be made. I've seen it suggested to use a standardised track file but, from what I understand, that has problems in itself when DCS World is updated. What I've been doing to test settings is hop into an F-16 in Cold and Dark instant action missions on Caucuses, Nevada and Syria. I stay on the ramp, and just look around in the cockpit and I also F2-View around on other aircraft flying on the map and then take note of the stats in fpsVR at certain points. For me this provides an all-round impression of the performance. To date Nevada is the worst performer, it hammers my CPU hard and DCS stutters when looking around in the cockpit, I suspect it's because Las Vegas is being drawn in the background.
  2. Was already using it. I find the debug tool useful as it would highligt the moment a bottleneck would occur without having to constantly look down to see fpsVR in VR. For example it was interesting to see that wing vortex affects frame times on the GPU.
  3. Spot on - It was an option in WMR The biggest problem I couldn't solve, while I had the 2080Ti and now my new 3090, was when looking down on to the terrain below, I would get stutters or double vision(? if that makes sense) it was like the left and right eyes were out of sync. It was so bad it would give me a nauseous sensation. After digging a little I came across @imacken post here, and reading through the MS doc I noted I didn't have Motion Reprojection enabled. (Note: The green square is a debug option under "Developer" -> "Enable motion reprojection status indicator". Its helped me see where motion reprojection was kicking in during flight, and to know if the CPU or GPU was hitting any "walls", thus help me decide which settings in DCS to set / change. ) Setting Motion Reprojection to Auto has changed everything for me and I'm now getting buttery smooth frame rates / frame times. If people are intersted I can post my settings in a new thread.
  4. @plane_crazy242. lol ... I hear ya bud. I've been at this thing for days now. It even drove me to go out and get a RTX3090!! and I still can't find that sweat spot. Even with a 3090, DCS runs like crap in certain sections for me with ALL settings set to "potatoe" It's now 5am New Year's Day and haven't slept because I've been reading up on this and I'm hoping to get some tweaking done before I have to nurse my wife's hangover when she wakes up I'm hoping the future updates to the DCS rendering engine will provide a better VR experience.
  5. That won't work on its own, not without hacking away at the nose rest and making room for the cable connector. And it still wouldn't address the narrow width of the faceplate, at least for me anyway.
  6. Please do, my son is also getting a G2 and he tried mine and had the same issue with the face plate being too tight - fat heads run in the family ...
  7. I suspect it's all down to the CPU. Compared to BN stated system specs - I have a slightly higher clocked GPU (MSI Gaming Trio X 2080ti), higher clocked RAM @3200, but I'm on an AMD system (AMD 3900X on X570), my CPU boost clock is lower than the i7 10900X and I think that's where the meat is. I can only manage 90fps in open terrrain but if I fly over a town or base my fps tanks to 45. The important thing is the frame times I think, if I can maintain between 10 to 20ms I get a smooth ride no matter the fps.
  8. Figured it out ... I must have cleared my "Room Boundry" settings in the Mixed Reality Portal. Reconfiguring it has fixed the issue.
  9. Hi All, After spending a bunch of hours getting back into DCS and configuring my HP Reverb G2, I've just noticed that panning left / right and forward / back moves the world camera(?) instead of the pilot head / camera, i.e. the world camera is locked to the movement of my HMD. For the life of me I can't figure out what I've done to cause this, any help would be appreciated. Cheers
  10. Cheers for the replies all, but I had PEBKAC moment I forgot to reduce the SteamVR resultion multiplier Using the F16 - Cold and Dark Start mission on Syria I'm now getting stable 45 fps / 16ms over Incirlik, and 75fps / 10ms over open terrain.
  11. So just to clarify something ... Syria, no matter what I try it's just a slide show, so I'm assuming its a "no go" map for VR? Edit: for others veiwing this comment - I forgot to reduce SteamVR resultion multiplier.
  12. Yeah ... Just done a little experiment using the G2 without the face plate attached, it's definately the cause of the issue I'm having with the sweet spot, the FOV was also much higher. The faceplate is definately a poor design in my opinion.
  13. Yep found it, thanks again ...
  14. Music to my eyes, I didn't know that, I'll need to look into it, thanks.
  15. For me coming from a CV1 to the G2. Positves: The G2 is lightweight. I couldn't believe how much lighter it was compared to the CV1. The G2 resultion is, I think it goes without saying ... OMG! Negatives: I've got a decent sized head and the G2 face mask / frame is way too narrow for me, especially compared to the CV1. I get constant pressure around my eye sockets to the point where I have to stop. I'm investigating the feasiablility of 3D printing a wider frame. Probably due to the above, the G2's central focal area (sweet spot) where everything is clear is smaller than the CV1, i.e. looking peripherally, the CV1 has a larger area / zone where the image is in focus compared to the G2. The software setup for DCS is very cumbersom - Windows Mixed Reality, Steam VR, then DCS itself - too many levers to pull to get it going just right.
  16. Just to clarify the NVIDIA control panel settings: Let the 3D application decide - The app / game will override NVIDIA control panel settings e.g. Both DCS World and NIVIDA control panel have settings for Anisotropic Filtering. Using this option, DCS Worlds's settings for AF will override NVIDIA control panel settings. Use the advanced 3D image settings - Here you take control of the settings via a pre-defined profile or you can create your own. Your selections will override NVIDIA control panel OR any DCS World settings depending on the selections you make. Use my preference emphasising ... - Here NVIDIA control panel will override the above two, and will adjust the settings based on the slider choice. You can't tweak these settings, well not without messing with registry entries I think, something I wouldn't do. When tweaking for VR performance you'll need to use "Use the advanced 3D image setting" as per BigNewy's Reverb G2 thread.
  17. Yikes ...
  18. The question I have is did anyone need to upgrade their PSU to accommodate the 3090? Would 850W be sufficient?
  19. So what was the outcome here? Last I checked they don't work / support DCS. Has this changed?
  20. Thanks IronMike ... have replied as well.
  21. At this time the discount is NOT being applied at check-out, so it's just a waiting game I think.
  22. XE.com provide market exchange rates, Banks and PayPal don't follow them - xe.com -> 1 AUD = 0.682907 USD ANZ: AUD $1.00 = USD $0.6619 CommBank: AUD $1.00 = USD $0.6534 Westpack: AUD $1.00 = USD $0.6463 NAB: AUD $1.00 = USD $0.6537 Edit ... the kit I selected was with the extension. Edit2 ... Just checked my account and the shipping has changed to what you have. When I checked earlier it was at $238 USD using FedEx. So revised total is $1852.07 AUD
