  1. So maybe this is something we could do for them - look at how much publicity Arma 3 got after PC Gamer started regularly posting news about it and how much Shacktac and Dyslexi have done to increase the brand awareness and introduce it into mainstream gaming. With DCS... there is nothing. Maybe we should start a community project with YT channel and other stuff that would introduce DCS and simulation gaming to the people who still think Ace Combat is a simulator? That would not interfere with anything here and could broaden the customer-base. Not to mention free advertising in gaming mags.
  2. Regarding making money by ED, why don't they try to capitalize on the manuals? I would gladly pay for a paper version of the DCS-10C manual, but all they have on their offer is the Shark... And then there is the Mustang, UH-1H...
  3. CM shows the same as DXTweak, axis go full range, no issue, no spiking, no numbers bouncing. Framerate is good 30+ FPS all the time. I was also looking into USB poling rates. I have a Razer Deathadder mouse with a refresh rate of 1000. After setting this to 500, the zoom axis seems to spike a little less in DCS, but it might as well be a placebo effect. Any ideas?
  4. I have already done all that, DXTweak does not indicate any spiking whatsoever. The fact that they are pots does not mean they are crap, they just have smaller resolution than Halls. As I have mentioned, this an almost new HOTAS. Also Saitek does not use quality pots, they are better than Logitech, but hardly close to CH stuff.
  5. As I have already stated, I used a calibration tool. The RAW input was NOT jittering.
  6. I have a CH HOTAS + pedals setup, but there is one thing that irritates the hell out of me - throttle spiking. The throttle sometimes jitters and the same thing happens with the wheel on the Fighterstick which I use for zooming. I know what you are all gonna say - bad pots. Well... How about NO! I had the same problem with my previous HOTAS the X-52, the turn knobs I used for zoom were always bouncing, but I figured it's not top of the line gear, the pots probably get old. I did not investigate even though this issue occurred only in DCS. Now CH is another matter - they use quality pots and this should not happen (it's 5 months old). But the view still bounces and the throttle sometimes bounces. I was ignoring the issue, but today was the last straw. I checked the axis calibration - rock solid stable. I checked with Dxtweak - rock solid stable. Every other game - rock solid stable. Not a twitch, no jitter, not a point up and down. So I go back into DCS, zoom my view a little and the disco is on again until I find the sweet spot. What I am trying to say is - it's not the hardware - it's DCS. It either cannot precisely read controller inputs, or something else is screwed.
  7. Yes it is, there is a thread about it in Belsimteks department.
  8. Well, the UH-1 is exactly the opposite - not much avionics, hard as hell to control - my kind of simulator.
  9. No one was better at "firing rounds down range" than him.
  10. We probably all know there was a licensing issue that delayed the beta and thankfully Belsimtek got an official license from Bell-Textron. I know the deal is probably top secret and none of our business, but I was just curious - the Bell people had to see the sim, right? So did they like it? Were they in awe just as we are?
  11. Noticed this on my first flight training with guns. It's awesome!
  12. I had the same problem and eventually I learned to pay close attention to the instruments. Keep an eye on the artificial horizon all the time, it's a more precise reference than the gun reticle. As for shaking - just ignore it, the sooner you learn to treat it as an eye candy effect, rather than the indication of something going wrong the better. What you should be worried about is your VVI. Once you slow down, you will lose lift and that needle will start dropping, that is when you need to use your collective to keep it 0. If it goes down below 5, chances are it will plummet down rapidly and you will enter a vortex ring. It's basically the same principles as in the Shark, only you have no HUD to tell what is going on. But you have instruments - your best friend in flight.
  13. Oh yeah, chicks in bikinis are welcome as well. Come to think of it, why on earth do we have those morons dressed in UCP pyjamas there in the first place? They should immediately be replaced with chicks with big boobs and tiger-stripe bikinis.
  14. That's obvious when you read about the design. Missiles hit the tail most of the time, so a coaxial design is the way to go in terms of survivability. It's all in the manual. ;)
  15. Loudspeakers playing Wagner anyone?
  16. What he said! Pour him one!

    control tips

It's the same with any other stick, you just need to correct all the time. This is not a lazy-ass heli like the shark is, where you can take off, trim, set course, engage AP route follow and go make a coffee. In Capitalist 'Murica the helicopter does not fly you. :)
  18. Sims are expensive, but with this quality, it's worth it. In comparison, Call of Derpy costs more and provides less fun. :)
  19. It's cool to see ED finally going back to the roots with Su-27. But while we're here spamming hopes and speculations, I think the devs should really focus on fixing what's broken. 1.2.4 broke the sounds in the Mustang, there is no primer sound, no fuel pump sound and the radio doesn't click. There is also this irritating rainbow line around the edges of the cockpit. Explosions and gun firing effects still haven't been fixed and cause serious slow-downs. As far as I know, nothing has been confirmed in this matter. While I would really love to see the Su-27 like tomorrow, I'd rather the see the broken/WIP stuff fixed first. And maybe Nevada/EDGE. ;)
  20. Apparently one person found the game mode. :megalol:
  21. There is a game mode?! :D
  22. It's skill and a good stick. Keep practising, learn to anticipate the chopper's fancies and you'll be good. It took me 3 days of hard flying, but I'm getting better. Landings are no longer a problem, hovering is no longer a problem most of the time and my ego has just grown to over 9000. :) As for setting the collective or stick in the same place as the video, it's not the point to know where your control should be, you need to feel the machine, anticipate it's movements, be precise and focused. Also, each time you fly the conditions differ - weight can differ, wind can differ, air density can differ (not sure if that's simulated). What you should watch is instruments and not the red controls box.

    control tips

I was supposed to try the game mode, but after so much time spent in realistic mode, I feel like I am getting the hand of things. Everyone who still has problems hovering, falling into vortex ring, slowing down - just practice. A couple of useful tips: -watch you instruments, the artificial horizon is the most important one - if you keep it centred, you will be able to do a stable hover. -each input you make will result in a counter-action from the heli, you need to anticipate that and correct slightly before it happens and than correct the correction... until infinity. :) Basically after you get it, you will find that you are moving your stick like a metronome. -the collective is key to slowing down and losing altitude. Try going lower by diving and turning to lose speed. Watch your VVI while doing this. Whenever it shows around -5 you are like to go vortex. You need to pull the collective to counter that, but at the same time remember that the chopper likes to exaggerate, so you are likely to ascend. So... same as with the cyclic - constantly move the collective up and down and observe the VVI to keep the indicator where you want it. Again, anticipation is key here. If you see the indicator going up towards zero, you can be damn sure it will show +5 in 2 seconds. This sim requires constant control inputs and close observations of the instruments to keep the indicators where you want them. An ideal stick would be something soft and precise with a long throw. I use a CH setup, with curves at 30. It's not bad, but something with 4 times the resolution would be in order here. I was eager for some dampening special options to make it easier with my HOTAS, but now I am not sure I want it. Controlling this legendary helicopter and being able to fly where I want and land where I want (even if my flying is a bit goofy) makes me feel... make me feel... damn awesome I guess! :D
  24. I am terrible at flying this baby, but after 3 days of practice, countless crashes I can hold a hover most of the time. So I decided to go for it and check out the oil rig landing... Well, what do you know! Made it on my first attempt. I feel godlike now! :D
