  1. It would be awesome if DCS would have a visual damage model like the last AC. Especially the AI planes lack in this regard...
  2. Alt+C does the trick, but it cannot be assigned to a mouse button, which is a pity.
  3. We can discuss all we want, but the truth is, that no matter how bad a sim IL-2 is, there has not been anything better in terms of WWII since 2001. Warbirds and Aces High do not come close (not to mention they are multiplayer only). Cliff of Dover has some good engine modelling--it's better than DCS IMO, where you can take-off with a cold engine and the only failure I have seen so far was a complete engine stop with the prop being instantly welded to the fuselage. Still that is about it, since in terms of immersion BoBII>CloD>DCS:P-51 and all are completely owned by the already mentioned 12-year old sim when it comes to online play and amount of content to have fun with. Unless something gets released for DCS, things are gonna stay that way.
  4. That is a matter of opinion, but still, one has to take into consideration that IL-2 is a 10+ year old sim. There may not be any button clicking, but FMs feel right most of the time, and with new patches coming up, complex engine management adds the necessary realism. The AI in 4.11.1 version is better too, or maybe just less boring. As I said before, it's nothing close to DCS, but it does have a full theatre and a set of campaigns + mods (Histomod actually introduces a study-sim level 109). That said, I can fly all I want in DCS and enjoy the detail, but if I want to enjoy World War II, IL-2 is the only place to go. Unless ED steps up in that matter, things aren't gonna change for me.
  5. I know, but I still play other DCS stuff.
  6. No point in that, you only use the throttles on start-up, or emergency. What I'd really like is some axis filtering like IL-2 has - it would help with the spiking and make axis useful as trimmers.
  7. I used to use rotaries for zoom view, but they are spiking, so the view bounces (only happens in DCS for some reason, Il-2, Falcon, and other sims don't have that problem). Other than that... no use for them in BS.
  8. I have spent enough time with the Mustang to finally be able to properly fly it. I love the cockpit, attention to detail and the sound. But, when the day is set i get back to IL-2. CloD is a fail, but the 1946 version still rocks hard. In terms of realism it cannot be compared to DCS, but it has one thing DCS doesn't - the setting. After several months of learning the Mustang, flying around, having fun etc. I am simply bored. I have tried to set up some combat missions, but the Pony's armament just doesn't cut it in DCS. All you can do is dogfight other P-51s and that is just not right. DCS just cannot compete with providing fighter escorts to B-17s against a swarm of 109s and simulation fidelity has nothing to do with it. Sorry to say this, but with WWII machines, the setting is everything. Hope ED can fix this soon. ;)
  9. I was ready to buy one a week ago until I have read posts about broken FFB. Then I did some more digging and... well it's Logitech. For several years now they have been making crap. Even their wheels get bad opinions more often, not to mention their gaming mice (Razer went down the drain, but they still do better). Basically, we seem to lack new gear and perspectives for it. CH is awesome or so I hear, but expensive, same goes for TM. With Logi out of the picture, we are left with Saitek, and they seem to stop making new stuff, so it's either going cheap with X52 or being condemned to Force sensing and crappy layout. I was considering Warthog, but it's not available in my country and getting it from abroad kills the purpose in terms of price, not to mention you need pedals...
  10. I think this is what is on everyone's mind. For some reason ED fails in the communication with customers department. We get bits of info from time to time, but not really enough to keep the hype going and for us to have a clear picture as to what and when to expect stuff. There are things the community has been waiting for a long time - Nevada, new fast mover, but all we got recently from ED was FC3 at full price. Such policy causes scepticism to grow on people.
  11. I have the non-pro and cannot complain. I was thinking about an upgrade but the Warthog is too expensive (+pedals) and lack some rotaries and buttons I need for my sims, the X-65f is also problematic as is the G940 and CH line also feels too expensive in my country... (full set costs more than Warthog). Maybe I just expect too much for the price, but the X-52 fulfils my needs for the cost. Maybe it's a question of perspective, or maybe it's just Suncom is dead. :)
  12. This just got serious: http://9gag.com/gag/5841566
  13. I think what some people here do not get, is the fact that for some of us here, simulation needs to be as realistic as possible, and once you get into that, there is no going back to the "press E for engine startup" thing. A real pilot has to push buttons and have a ton of knowledge to be able to fly the jet. Simple radio management requires setting up frequencies and using the proper channel, not just pressing "/". It's not about boasting that someone is able to play a game that is just harder to learn, it's about knowing how the real plane works in and out. FC3 might be fun (FC2 was and it's basically the same game), but the simulation level is simplified and that is a deal-breaker for someone who has been there and played it and moved on to something more challenging (like reading 700+ pages of a manual to be able to take off).
  14. I am just about to order the G940... This is really bad news. And still no response from ED. :(
  15. So why wasn't anything announced? It's not like there is so much competition in this market, that someone might steal the idea... ;)
  16. Much has been said on the topic, everyone wants 190s, 109s, 262s, Zeros... bla, bla, bla. The problem is, there is no indication whatsoever, that ED, or a third party, or whoever is gonna continue the DCS Legends series. As of now, it is reasonable to assume that ED experimented on a prop plane, made a descent Mustang and decided to releases it to get some dough on the side. Fair enough. The question is, what can we as customers do, to not let the idea die at this? We can have polls and discussions where everyone suggests their favourite plane, but I don't think this will lead us anywhere, since everyone has a different favourite. I guess the only thing to do, I to show ED that there are people here willing to spend money on furtherer classic planes. Once that gets going we can discuss what planes will that be.
  17. It would be nice if ED could get a Third Party to WWII content elusively (A2A maybe?). A fully study sim of 1940 conflict would be the best thing ever. Still, I think we will wait a looooong time for that to happen. What would satisfy me for now, is a combat campaign for the P-51 in Caucasus. A far fetched concept, but with the some creative writing it could be made plausible (mercenary counter insurgency recon Mustang?). This is supposed to work somehow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_EMB-314_Super_Tucano
  18. If that is true, I assume a lot of people who bought FC3 will get pissed. :)
  19. For some reason I do not have anything DCS related in my start menu, how do I run the repair thing? Nothing in bin folder that resembles it.
  20. Tried auto-updating, but got a hash mismatch error after 40 minutes. Now the auto-updater won't do it's thing, just runs DCS World (I am running it from start menu).
  21. My guess is an X-52. The solution is simple and worked for me - adjust the joystick curves. For some reason "bumps" occur when you maneuver too rapidly (and in Kamov's dictionary, "rapidly" apparently means anything quicker than a doped turtle). With smother curves the, banking, pitching etc is done in a more relaxed fashion, that is what the trimmer system likes. Not really sure why it's like this, I would assume the real cyclic stick requires a lot more pressure than a joystick. One thing though, make sure to not smoothen the initial curve too much since that will cause the later curve to be very steep and this will cause serious precision issues with the Ka-50 and lead to erratic flight behavior. Than again, this will also force you to use smaller inputs and trim more often. You can also loose the final part of the axis curve altogether - you don't really need to yank the stick all the way with central trimmer position option (unless you actually own a G940).
  22. Browse the forum and look at some of the latest screens - you will change your mind. Anyway, EDGE is supposed to be a new terrain engine that takes advantage of the latest graphic card features. That means ED will be able to provide us with better visuals that are better optimised. Another thing about EDGE is that after it's done and becomes the standard scenery rendering engine in DCS, other sceneries (either by ED or third parties) should follow. That means good bye boring old Black Sea region. ;)
  23. That kind of stuff can be found in Arma 2. I seriously doubt DCS will feature such stuff any time soon.
