  1. Yeah, big no no for the IP in the back to lose his cool like that. CRM is such a vital tool when flying I cant imagine the guy up front knowing wtf is going on after him yelling like that. On the other hand the front seater shouldnt have been able to fly with such a language barrier. What also got my attention was when the IP was asking where they were going and he got no response not just once but a couple times.....glad I wasnt in that debrief!
  2. LOL Konkussion, I agree....who cares about an bunch of planes that can travel all that distance just to get shot down LOL! Plus has anyone heard of in flight refueling? There is always a tanker nearby if the mission is that important.
  3. Short answer "No." As far as the Thunderbirds are concerned not yet...although even though we still have a red light regarding reconfiguring them to look like the f16 Im optimistic one day it will resemble it whether ED gives us another editing/config tool or someone figures it out. There have already been a few "rumors" floating around that it can be done but I have yet to see any evidence of such. And believe me, I cant wait for a more realistic cockpit either.
  4. Thats why God created circuit breakers. And 999/1000 the gen. work fine. And even if they ever go bad they usually just fall offline. Sys. is designed pretty much fail safe. All my years on the flightline I have never heard of a generator frying anything else than itself since the electrical sys are protected. And Tailhook (Corsair7662), first off I cant believe you referenced anything from the movie "Stealth" and if you really are unsure of how avionics work then I would recommend you ask rather than guess. Most if not all equipment on military aircraft are what we call"battle hardened" meaning they might not be the best technologically speaking, but they can take a heck of alot more input/damage than your normal pc.
  5. Dont know about Russian jets but for American ones you can turn on your avionics if you have a power cart hooked up. It will carry the load during start and regulate voltage untill your gen's come online to take over. Without the power cart (external power as we say) I couldnt tell ya for jets but would assume that you would be careful doing so. On helo's (which I fly on) the APU will carry the load for everything the entire time regardless of engine start or not.
  6. GiGurra, As a prior avionics guy in the USAF and now a flyer I totally agree with you bud on this subject in which I have had many of headaches when trying not to shoot my own friendlies in this game. If the F15 in real life had the same limited IFF capability as in LOMAC they probably wouldnt even fly untill they got that fixed...its that much of a safety concern, especially in todays world. IFF modes 2 and 4 in real life will definitely take care of your problem unforunately ED hasnt modeled that feature especially when in close and non BVR. As far as the aim120, I totally agree with you on that too and again only hope ED is working on a fix for that (which I actually hear they are ) This is a subject that I and many others have personally brought up and I support your email to them bud. We are at the mercy of ED when it comes to the F15's avionics capability and I can only hope they incorporate at the very least the known IFF and aim 120 issues (although rumor has it they are adjusting the 120 stuff for 1.2)
  7. I believe he was referring to air to air engagements....not surface to air. It being the current air supremacy fighter...not for the wild weasel missions.
  8. Happy Birthday bud!
  9. Just wanted to add my 2 cents on the online combat squadrons that are out there. I have flown in many of hyperlobby servers for lockon since its creation and would have to say the 169th are the premier fighter squadron. Everytime I fly with them as an outsider online they treated me with the utmost respect and their combat sim knowledge and server is the model for all other squadrons out there. I know there are more than one squadron to choose from and alot of good ones at that but if you are looking for the ultimate in online fighter squadron play.....checkout the 169th! 11. Im with you guys on this too....if ED only knew the true capability of the one fighter in this world that in the last 30 years has yet to get shot down by an enemy aircraft. I think the fact that this is a game keeps my sanity in check when it comes to the massive amounts of critical flaws with the eagle.
  12. As a former avionics specialist and now a current flyer I can say I continue to be extremely aggrivated that ED doesnt ID any of the friendlies I might lock up with a big X overlay on the id box if it is friendly just like the 15 has in real life. Especially with alot of noobs playing they cant tell if its friendly or not and just fire anyways while the rest of us have to get to a ridiculously close distance to finally tell if we can fire or not....just plain stupid especially since IFF up and running in mode A/B/C. In my opinion IFF doesnt even exist in this game since it fails to accompish what I just said above. All I can do is just hope and pray ED will incorporate this necessity while in combat.
  13. Being that Merlin is the man when it comes to fuel issues I will try to elaborate what he was trying to say. The fuel flow transmitter that measure's flow is attached to the engine and of course measure's all the fuel going to the combustion can and burnt. When you go to AB you are just dumping fuel on the outer ring so to speak of the actual engine in little vents and it of course doesnt get read by the transmitter so you wont see it on your gauge. Any pilot knows that if he is in burner he needs to eyeball his fuel quantity gauge. Fuel flow gauge is great for ensuring your engine is working well and calculating fuel consumption for long distance legs. Thats the basic terms that I have always been aware of....Merlin, please correct me if I am wrong.
  14. I already see Dice works on these aircraft just by what he is saying...cause he is right. I am with you on this Dice, in fact I just fixed a fuel flow problem on my bird last weekend lol, was reading 1700lbs/hr just about 4 seconds after I rotated the dam thing...lol. Apparently someone screwed up the wiring job after I told them to extend the whole wiring harness so you can actually take the gauge somewhat out of the panel for troubleshooting. As far as the fuel flow goes, most aircraft have rotation, ignition and then fuel flow and egt on the rise when it comes to starting up.
  15. Very well said...I should check my acronyms and spelling next time. Gotta hand it to those jet troops for working on those big blowers!
  16. Great question...gonna call a buddy of mine who works on them at Eglin and find out cause I honestly forgot. As far at the engine stuff though I know they incorporated a new DEEC a few years back....a digital electronic engine controller for engine management...makes the transition faster from idle to full burner and is more fuel efficient and better for the engine....The 15E model has a much better one that can take the engine from idle to full burner in 4 seconds flat...I always enjoyed watching that! Flying the Friendly,
  17. I think you are missing the overal point here. If I could go into more depth on this subject and answer your questions and then we would be moving into the "sensitive" side of things and I cant do that. Take my word or leave it....I stop there. I also would like to refer back to my first two very clear points wrong with the radar. Again take it or leave it but if you fix those two issues thats a start. We can go back and forth all day on this my friend but we will go nowhere with your line of questions. Oh, and I'm waiting on that Russian avionics guy's quote that you promised. Thanks,
  18. I'll take that bet GGTharos. Just let let me know his name and where he is stationed or was stationed and that would be great, thanks. Does your follow on remark about "simply doesnt mean anything at all" refer to my knowledge or what I have to say for a professional opinion? Do you honestly think I or anyone else that works these things would release actual f15 radar numbers to the public...are you insane. Its sensitive info and its my job to ensure it stays that way. You know at the end of the day its just a game. Will it ever be the same as in RL, no way....can it be close to where we all have a good time and feel its semi-realistic....absolutely! I voiced a honest and professional opinion and if people dont want to take it thats fine with me...their loss. Working together and respecting others even although we might severely disagree is what makes the LOMAC community great and fortunately most people in here do that...hence why I am here.
  19. Hey Folks, Been meaning to write this post for a long time now and I guess I am finally doing it so here it goes. As an USAF Avionics guy I have had the pleasure of working with some great and not so great equipment. Working with this equipment and then seeing alot of it in lockon with it in action has really frustrated me especially as of late regarding the F-15's radar capabilites. First off, I know its a game and the developers tried to represent its capablilites but they certainly didnt hit close to the mark in my opinion. Dont know the exact reasons but regardless at this point I am just thankful that the F-15 radar is kick butt in RL rather than what LOMAC makes it instead of visa versa. My suggestion to LOMAC is if they wish to make the Eagles radar less accurate than in RL then just say so, that way it makes sense to those who actually work on it and really know its true capabilities. If they want to gain any true sense of realism then they need to take heed of a few things...obviously the following is off official pubs since I cannot dispose of any sensitive info. 1. Even if you are tracking HOJ you still can determine if its a friend of foe. Heck, regardless of HOJ period, you lock up a friendly and your HUD should show an X over the target box....thats what IFF is for, and the newer APG-63 does it on its own regardless of the IFF transponder these days. From public resources http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-15.htm and http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-15-design.htm "The F-15's versatile pulse-Doppler radar system can look up at high-flying targets and down at low-flying targets without being confused by ground clutter. It can detect and track aircraft and small high-speed targets at distances beyond visual range down to close range, and at altitudes down to tree-top level. The radar feeds target information into the central computer for effective weapons delivery. For close-in dog fights, the radar automatically acquires enemy aircraft, and this information is projected on the head-up display." 2. The 20 mile disappearing act! Thats right, funny how 90% of the time when Im tracking a guy around 15-20 miles my contact usually go off my scope for no apparent reason, I then scan like crazy and ironically find them most of the time visually in sight right around my nose. Especially when you pretty much go boresight on the guy cause he is so close in and yet your radar still didnt pick him up before that. Seconds in a dogfight count so much that these problems continue to get me and others killed due to us looking out the window for a visual. More quotes and remember, this is the older version, the newer radars AN/APG-63(v1/v2) are even a heck of alot better "The AN/APG-63 radar is a highly flexible, all-weather multimode radar. The APG-63 radar combines long range acquisition and attack capabilities with automatic features to provide the instant information and computations needed during air-to-air and air-to-surface combat. The APG-63 has been operational since 1973. In 1979, it was the first airborne radar to incorporate a software programmable signal processor. The PSP allows the system to quickly respond to new tactics or accommodate improved modes and weapons through software reprogramming rather than by extensive hardware retrofit. The APG-63 is no longer in production but remains in service. Almost 1,000 APG-63s had been delivered when production ended in 1986. About 700 are still operational in F-15As, Bs, and early model Cs and Ds operated by the U.S. Air Force and the air forces of Israel, Japan, and Saudi Arabia." My two cents. Will I still fly LOMAC, absolutely! Its still the best online flight sim out there in my opinion but it cant hurt for a few improvements! Regardless, hats off to ED...thanks for stickin with LOMAC!
  20. Erdem. I honestly think everyone doesn't use the other threads for movie introductions for pretty much what Andrew_McP said. There isn't many people at all these day's cruising through those threads and if you really want people to know about your movie then you need to just make a quick post in the general discussion, just ask the big LOMAC movie makers these day's. There isn't tons of movies coming for LOMAC so when they do what better way to reach into the LOMAC community and advertise. Hope that helps in answering any questions, bitches, gripes, and complaints. Flying the Friendly,
  21. Hey Folks! I just wanted to let you all know I posted a fairly new movie up on Patrick's Aviation site and hope you all enjoy it. All in all it was just about a 25 minute flight from startup to wheels down and I decided to film it. Kinda like a day in the life of a LOMAC pilot these days. I would like to thank the 169th for their dedicated server and 169th Mustang for being such a great flight lead and online aviator. Link: http://www.patricksaviation.com/sim_videos.php?action=view&id=50 Flying the Friendly,
  22. Thanks guys! Of course my job making the movie for me was pretty easy considering you all flew so well! I look forward to flying in future airshows and performing as a Virtual Thunderbird instead of spectating. Again, thanks to all! Flying the Friendly (Inverted),
  23. Absolutely curli! I figured one good show music deserves another, hence it being the theme for VFAT-05. Thanks for you comments. ThomasDWeiss- Thanks for the upload to your site and great poster! JaBoG32_Golden Eagle- Thanks also to uploading to your site and again, much thanks for hosting it and making it happen S! JaBoG32 Also, its now uploaded at Patricks Aviation website: http://www.patricksaviation.com/sim_videos.php?action=view&id=29 Enjoy! Flying the Friendly, =STRIKER=
  24. S! all, Here is a quick link to a video I put together from Saturday's Virtual Festival of Aerobatics. It was very nice to see the many teams and demonstrations that took place and I thank you all who participated and made it happen! http://s61.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2RT48OCF4OLRZ2LEN15HWT4SZY If anyone can upload it to their site or is willing to host the movie please do! I'll am planning on uploading it to Patrick's Aviation site soon. Enjoy and thanks all for a fantastic show! Flying the Friendly, =STRIKER=
