I would also prefer not to have any 'sound radar' or 'sound sonar' when in cockpit. It just doesn't feel (and isn't) right at all. MAC

+1! MAC

Well good luck with it all, and let us know when you're ready to take it up a notch and go official! MAC

I wonder, do you want to produce high quality aircraft including cockpits etc on the level of DCS, as a third party developer? Or how do you plan do go about it? If it's the former, I guess you'd best contact ED for approval and I'm sure they would try to coordinate what their third party devs are working on. About quitting your job in order to create airplanes, maybe a good idea, provided you have the skills to do it well. Hey, some people (me included) might even want to fund such projects. :) MAC

Lol, good to hear you're having fun! Haven't heard about the Lomcovak before but worth a try! It's been too long I've been separated from my P-51 due to work, hope to catch up again soon! Cheers, MAC

Resolution Adjustments / Controller Issues

DCS WWII World - like that title! MAC

Hello esteemed DCS community, I'm still a newbie on the platform, and my heart is with WWII aviation. My sim origin goes back to playing Gaijin's Birds of Prey on the PS3 and later Wings of Prey on my MacBook Pro (running Windows 7 professional 64 bit under Boot Camp). Being new here (I really like the DCS - P51) I would really appreciate a helping hand with a few issues I have encountered. 1.) 720p Projector setup I have a 720p (HD ready) projector at home to which I like to connect my computer. This has always worked very well with the other games but I do not find this option in the list of resolutions in the Options menu. Only thing I can do is to choose a higher resolution (1920x1080, full HD) which my projector is not capable of displaying correctly, it works but all text appears very small and is hard to read. Someone recommended I ask here for help and suggested it may be possible to edit the lua files in order to achieve the correct resolution. 2.) PS3 controller problems I am aware that it may seem odd to even attempt flying the P-51 with this type of gamepad, but that's what I have at the moment and which I can take with me on my (very) frequent travels. I most likely will upgrade to something more professional when I buy a dedicated computer, but for that that's what I have and am used to. The Sony PS3 six axis controller runs very well with Wings of Prey, with a third party driver I got from motioninjoy.com . It also runs okay with DCS, except for three issues a ) now and then I suffer from total loss of aircraft control and view control. The view will just go anywhere and simultaneously there is an uncommanded flight control input - of course the worst you can have in a dogfight or when close to the ground! These kind of control losses are only very momentarily, but I never had them in any other game. Perhaps it's a bug in DCS world? b ) while flight control is very smooth with the left analog stick add rudders (with curves), view control with the right analog stick (as I used to do it in Wings of Prey) is very much the opposite. Very jerky and jagged, although I've set up curves. I wish it could be setup so it becomes as smooth as I'm used to. Any help for this problem? c) I use the upper digital triggers to increase and decrease manifold pressure. I would like to reduce the amount of change that a single trigger input causes, as at the moment the change is a bit too big (makes take off hard, power increase is very sudden). In another game I have this is possible but something called 'Relative Control Sensitivity' and is working very well. Can someone help me with this one? I would really appreciate any help with these issues. Thanks in advance! MAC

I might add that while the cockpits and aircraft look gorgeous, and I love how detailed the airports are, the landscape/sky/weather/water graphics do look a bit tired in comparison with other games/simulations. MAC

Really enjoyed flying with you on the Tuskegee Server last night, thanks for taking a DCS Rookie under your wings! Really opened my eyes for the potential of the platform, really awesome. Now got to start thinking about some serious equipment... MAC

Fair enough, I could imagine that many in the IL2 community have similar thoughts. I took a leap of faith and got it, my reasoning is if ED/Third Parties see plenty of interest/sales fresh content will be rolling in. The platform is certainly capable of that. But have to say, even at the Beta stage, I have already got my money's worth. It's a lovely plane to learn about and fly. MAC

Just wondering why there haven't been any takers (yet) for creating 3rd party WWII content for DCS World while there have been a lot of announcements for jet age. Does the DCS environment lack the right feel for the era? Would be interesting to hear what my fellow P-51 and/or WWII enthusiasts think on the topic. MAC

Very nice trailer. Congratulations! MAC

Thanks all for the replies to my question. Good information. MAC

If I remember correctly, the manual says 270mph is Maneuvering Speed (Va) which it then equals with corner speed. I'm not sure this is correct. Maneuvering speed is a maximum speed at which maximum control forces can be applied to the airplane without the risk of structural damage, since stall will occur earlier than damage (stall preventing the damaging forces). Above maneuvering speed, structural damage would be possible. How this should relate to best turn rate I do not understand. MAC

Great, thanks for sharing! MAC

Thanks Viamanaman! Very good advice! MAC

How to adjust the AI's fuel and weight? Also is there any possibility to modify the initial merge? I find the game starts way too close to each other, with the targeting not set up correctly for wingspan and range, carb heat and coolers not set up correctly...from a newcomer's perspective some things are not very intuitive in DCS. Watched last night and I'm sorry to say in my opinion not a good movie. The real story Tuskegee Airmen would have deserved a greater and more genuine effort. This just felt like a quickly assembled industrial movie aiming to make a buck. MAC

Hey Rick, Perhaps we should expand the Aces Club onto this platform? How do you like the DCS P-51 so far? MAC

Very nice music! Usually switching off menu music but I like this one, very fitting to DCS World. MAC

Thanks. I later discovered another thread about the update where the reason for a full install was given as having to ensure that any bugs reported comes from the newly installed files. Makes sense. MAC

Just wondering, why a full install for a Beta update versus a patch? MAC

I confirm Oil Pressure and Oil Temperature are not working properly in the Training Lesson - Engine Start (Oil Pressure way below 50 PSI, Oil Temperature never rising to 40 deg). Seem to work in other parts of the game. MAC

Awesome thread - this shows how serious ED is about this project. Very excited! MAC
