Combined Development Update - November 1, 2013
MACADEMIC replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
No mention of Kickstarter rewards. What's the state of that? I'd like to have at least some of the P-51D keys ready as Christmas presents. They were promised to be available right after the KS campaign ending on Oct 5. MAC -

+1, thanks! MAC -
Looking real nice! Dynamic? MAC

Dogs of War - I like it! Nice logo too! MAC

Thanks, well then I hope the new visuals are as good as the old Beta. or better. MAC

You got me lost there. This screenshot was posted in the Kickstarter campaign... MAC

I think best wait for the release, then there's still plenty of time to discuss and post critiques. But I must say that I like this screenshot: MAC

Awesome project, I only discovered this now. Very interested! MAC

Me-262 within reach - will you get it?
MACADEMIC replied to MACADEMIC's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Grifo, If you check the Kickstarter description, the list of 'Flyable Aircraft' does not contain the Me-262, it is listed under 'Non-Flyable Aircraft'. The 252 is a stretch goal aircraft. If you pledge $40 or more, you'll have all aircraft including the ones from stretchgoals. So my opinion is, best be safe and chip in another $10. Cheers, MAC -
Hey all, Total funding now is at about $144.000 with 24 hours left, very close to the first stretch goal of $150.000 which will give all backers who back $40 or more an additional flyable, the Me-262. In all likeliness the stretch goal will be reached. You can still up your pledge to at least $40 and receive the Me-262. Would be a pity to miss out on it. MAC [VV]75431503[/VV]

I was very much surprised when I heard that EDGE doesn't consider the curvature of the Earth. Very odd for a flight simulation graphics engine. Simple example. In real life, when you're about 10km up and you see an aircraft at a distance of say 5 Nautical Miles and it looks to be at the same altitude as you are, you can be sure that you are higher (I'd say by about a 1000 feet). This is because the horizon drops of a few degrees due to the curvature of the Earth. How would this effect then be simulated? MAC

New Rewards Matrix - Great Gifts?
MACADEMIC replied to MACADEMIC's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
:) Thanks guys! I will, I will! MAC -
The new rewards matrix just gave me the perfect reason to increase my pledge and have some great gifts ready for my friends. You can choose digital copies of the DCS World: P_51D (delivery Oct 2013) and/or the DCS World: FW190-D9 (estimated February 2014) as extra rewards and use as gifts. A $250 pledge gives me 8* extras, so 8 chances to impress someone with the fidelity of a DCS high performance prop simulation. For me that's a win-win-win situation: - support the Kickstarter to hopefully reach the $150.000,- goal - make someone happy with the Mustang or the Dora - have fun flying with my friends in DCS World and later in DCS WWII Maybe a good idea to follow? MAC * states 8 in the KS description, 7 in the rewards; Luthier's confirmation pending

Luthier, Just noticed on the Kickstarter the $250 Matrix in the description says 8 extras (the graphic with the blue background), while in the rewards section it states 7. Can we count on 8? Please also consider matching the matrix for higher pledges on the paypal page. MAC -

Who would change over now, it's simple to manage your pledge and rewards in Kickstarter itself, the same Matrix rewards are all available there. I upped my pledge a bit to match a matrix reward, more value for the money, bingo! MAC -
Looks awesome! MAC EDIT: not so much for the blue background though...
-
Hey, don't you think they'd be aware of that and can direct the necessary changes until Sept 2014? MAC

MACADEMIC replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I see the same problem but an easy solution. Luthier can't change the rewards on the kickstarter but he can easily ask everyone who pledged once the ks is over what they want and instead of honoring the reward as stated on Kickstarter offer you exactly the same choices. It's a bit of work to go through all that, but I think that's what should be done. If a mass of people now start cancelling their KS pledge to move over to paypal, this could still bring the house down! So let's all please wait for a statement of Luthier! MAC -
For this very reason I wouldn't have given away any of the three, they're all hard to make and each of them is desirable in their own right. But okay, decision is not ours to make and has been made, however not to forget that community effort and discussion has played its part in reversing the original plan to give away three such aircraft, which in my opinion would have made this venture go bust, as you call it. I think what's easily overlooked here is that there's a fundamental difference between an IL-2 type, and a DCS type flying-, and more so combat experience. If the casual doesn't bring with him the interest and attention span required to learn the trade and familarize himself with an aircraft's systems and characteristics, no tutorial in the world will make a great pilot and combat ace out of him. Not saying there wasn't a learning curve in IL-2 or other flight sims, there certainly was. But due to the much higher realism of all things DCS, there's much more to learn and the learning curve is steeper. That's why I think a trainer plane would have worked better, to cultivate the DCS experience for newcomers, and to wet the appetite of the old hands. MAC
-
Nothing, to answer your question. I'm not a newcomer, but flying a trainer such as a Tiger Moth in the free game and seeing all those nice warbirds taxi or fly by I'd surely have reached for my wallet to fly in one of them (or in all of them). More money for the devs. Surely training can also occur with simplified this and that. But to me it goes somewhat against the spirit of what DCS is. Got to learn to walk first before you can run. MAC
-
I would really have preferred a trainer plane to be released for free. What use is a P-47 in DCS fidelity to someone who's never flown a (simulated) plane in his life? Let alone dogfight in? There are very good reasons cadets weren't first started on high performance warbirds. I fear this could be more frustrating than encouraging to newcomers... MAC
-
There are so many things in this world that would suck if they were like this or like that, we don't need to know about all of them in advance. ;) MAC
-
Sorry HJM you're not correct there. The three free aircraft together with the free game were in the kickstarter description from the beginning. This hasn't changed but now maybe it will. MAC
-
Still not too late for that. Ilya can cancel the whole Kickstarter and proceed this way without owing anything to anyone. Selling the three warbirds within DCS World at full price would easily make so much revenue that he wouldn't need another Kickstarter to finance his WWII project. MAC
