  1. Maybe that was the problem...? :megalol: Just Kidding! Sorry...you walked right into that one ;)
  2. This is a personal utility question so I would think about your overall specs. On the face of it it would seem very sensible to enjoy 2gigs for ten months. In essence...what specs do you now have, how much did you pay for the ram and will the purchase of this ram really alter your upgrade timeline?
  3. How about "Trogdor the Burninator!!" ... wait that's taken... I like the skin!
  4. How are you getting to 2.2? Through that auto Overclock Function on the board? That's what may be limiting you.... I'm inexperienced at Overclocking... I have essentially done it once with the kit above (good stuff) and I have never had any slower stuff like your PC3200... My quick jab at getting above 2.2 is that your ram is failing and you need to put it on a divider (see the OC guide.) Other than that the only advice I can give you is to make sure the RIGHT bios options are enabled... This usually means taking things off of "Auto" and making manual settings. "Let your finger do the walking" ... google your motherboard and look for sceenshots of your boards bios. ANy question you have has been asked by someone else, its all a matter of using the correct search terms Other thoughts... get together your full and complete specs and lay them out like I have done, Power supplies come into effect here to a great extent... If there's one thing that can screw stability its a power supply that drops below needed volatage or is constantly changing. We'll be waiting for an answer but please allow me to be blunt as you learn more and more... 1) If you're OCing using the imbedded Bios "auto" options, stop doing so and look for the manual options 2) Use the steps outlined in that guide, Isolate cpu, fsb and ram,...then find the best mix...this does the work for you >>> http://math.gogar.com/athlon64.cgi 3) get all your specs together 4) Remember... getting your 200$ chip to safely perform like 1000$ one is worth the effort...at least it is for me Oh yes.... and my Opteron 165 maxes out at 2.7... I have crappy steppings and its the best that could be done on air cooling
  5. I'll second that... They just say that to cover their asses, but check people sigs at DFI Street... MOST are opterons Here are my specs DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D (623-3) AMD Opteron 165 (CCBWE 0547TPMW) s939 (w/Thermalright si-120 and 120mm Panaflo fan) 2x1gig Mushkin eXtreme Perf. 6. Lerxster... You're kind of a wierd spot in terms of upgrades Here's what I would do... (First determine what motherboard you have for sure) Determine if you can overclock with what you have... (Read this article and look for a better bios revision) http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/display/asus-a8ve-deluxe_12.html Try to bust 2.4 Ghz but if you buy a nice mother board (I reccomend DFI always for s939) and you're already close to buying a Core 2 Duo E6300... Here's a nice noob guide to OCing... http://eclipseoc.com/index.php?id=6,9,0,0,1,0 It's up to you, but I would first try OCing that thing with what you have first... Lomac is just a bitch to run! lol
  7. Yeh Lerxster.... you've got some pretty good core components so you'e in a real wierd upgrade spot. Tell us what you're running that Opteron 146 at and then a real discussion can take place of what you need to do. But if you're just now starting to save...depending on how long that takes...then I think your plan needs to include and Intel Quad Core or soemthing else... It's all about your timeframe
  8. It's a quasi rumor right now... THere should be a launch of the 8800 soon (whether its a hard or paper launch remains to be seen) and if the thread below is any indication, the card is putting up some pretty good numbers. However, read the arguements... if these benches are correct it seems the 8800 may not be so awe inspiring considering its a new process. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1113565 Also...remember that the "Dx10" wagon also comes with three things... Vista Os, a 8800, a high end power supply It's an odd time to build fresh... some things possibly to wait on... Intel Kentsfield, 8800gtx GPU, ATI R600 Gpu,
  9. He didnt mention it was a Core 2 Duo... I'm not sure where he is, or if it matters but in N. America the words "Core" and "Duo" are getting thrown around so much that I'm not sure some people can tell the difference. Core Duo/Core 2 Duo/Centrino Duo are very different things, sans the underlying differences in the mobile chip variants. The performance Core Duo mobile chips can be quite ordinary... I would be very very careful trying to play this game (especially under the above requirements) on a laptop. Just remember to google for specific chip benchmarks... that should be your guide
  10. This could easily turn into a sticky! lol jk Yeh... Ironman...as we recently discussed... I think you do quite a bit for the community. Now get ready for all those wonderfull BS tutorials!! No rest for the weary! :D
  11. Well I know Shepski had a child recently... that can certainly change priorities... I know from experience how awesome and generous he is!
  12. The games on the far left are open to all... cheers for giving this sim a run. Feel free to join squadrons TS servers. The 169ths is at Server Address: 169thts.servegame.com User Pass: panthers
  13. installing now
  14. Thats pretty damn cool.... Link and install instructions please
  15. I'd like some analysis of the top picture of this web page.... see the third pylon from the right? It certainly looks familiar...:D ... If it's what i think it is, I had no idea it could carry it. http://www.enemyforces.com/aircraft/su39.htm
  16. Yeh..... I think Alex was making a quick jab at a more complex answer. What I think he should of been speaking to more was about deterrence. i.e. It's not just Taiwan vs China. I for one would urge people not to make a huge deal about any arms deal or developement below the ability to stop all nuclear weapons delivery sytems. For anyone interested in deterrence read the book "Arms and Influence" by Tomas Schelling...it's really good, if controversial... his career in this study started when him and some people he was traveling with got seperated. They met up again, but they wondered what decisions would two non-speaking actors make if they wanted to meet in a certain location.
  17. Not to change the subject... but I would ask for the ability to manipulate waypoints in a multi-player environment first :P
  18. Yeh Ironhand... Thought of your tutorial as soon as I saw this post. Watch it Sticky.... you'll find the 25t a bit odd in this respect. The real bummer is that there's no flight path indicator.
  19. good work...keep it up
  20. Ok... the contention is, a newer graphics card (say a move from a 7900gt to an 8800gtx) in the exact same sytem would extend the average fps upwards, but have no effect on the minimum fps. From a gpu/mipmap/Dx8/blahblahblah level how does that work exactly? When does a GPU start to just not matter for fps?
  21. Kuky... I know this, which is why I speculated that the gain would be 8fps. Yes the CPU is a bottleneck but it's not a wall. I gave it 8 because it may be a very good jump in raw power, and that would have effects in LOMAC. At any rate I think I'm with Pilotasso on this one... 2x PCI-E connections... bleh!
  22. Nvidia 8800gtx.... Welll.... maybe http://xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20061023142704.html 2 power dongles...ewwwwww. and they're in a ridiculous position I might add. What kind of frames do you think this would add to Lomac? 8fps is my guess.
  23. You should reference others profiles just to see how they might do something...other than that...you must build your own profile... it will make a huge difference
  24. Well now that you mention it, it's probably the only way I could shoot that fine pilot down, his skills are replete with danger! so Hell yes it was!!!! LOL
  25. Divide your CPU score by two and what you get is real 3dMark06 performance...that has just been divided by two! LOL At any rate... 3dMark06 is indeed a real bitch to run, especially the CPU tests. The only real value of 3dMark03-06 is the online database that allows one to compare your kit to very similar kit. Here's a score [/url] DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D (623-3) AMD Opteron 165 (CCBWE 0547TPMW) (w/Thermalright si-120 and Panaflo) 2x1gig Mushkin extreme perf.
