You all wanted a TOMCAT sim right?
3Sqn_Fudd replied to maukings's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Holy crap! A blast from the past.... indeed.... this was my first air combat simulator... Ok whoever was playing that truly sucked, he was flying way to fast most of the time. Here's the cool thing about that game, aside from the awesome hints like "use your combat skills" the carrier landings were actually really really tough. Whats little known though is that game showed some of the real capabilities of the F-14... Aim-54's really can take out ships and the F-14 could really carry 40xAim-54's and 20x Aim-7's... :gun_rifle: :D -
SLI is not supported still in LockOn:FC?
3Sqn_Fudd replied to T4L0N's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Wow... didn't even know it wasnt supported. take note however that, while im sure SLI would help, Lomac is CPU limited. -
Yeh you're a serious "something" alright.....lol .... :smilewink: yes ... for the lad grab him a cyborg evo... will do well!

Ok i dont know why anything 680i related would be on a 965 board but ok Asus! lol Pointers? I haven't overclocked a Conroe yet so I'm not going to speak authoritatively, but it will go something like this... http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/Core2Duo-Overclocking-Guide-v1-ftopict197995.html I really want to know what the max FSB of your board is...so get the RAM speed and also the CPU multiplier real low and then raise the CPU frequency until it gets unstable while benching the program called orthos or two instances of prime95. You'll do this anyways while overclocking, let me know what it is please.... So good that your mobo posted first time around  btw, what CPU and what RAM are you using? ... omg im going to annoy you so much OT: Ok... if you're into motherboards... this showed up today... holy smokes http://csd.dficlub.org/pgpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=347

Dualcore Opty s939 vs E6600
3Sqn_Fudd replied to GiGurra's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
95 to 250 fps? Were you running this track through fraps to get an set comparison of average fps? I didn't think it would be that high... Some of the guys that have made the switch reported alot better frames, but not 150%... It's close though fellas, LOMAC should be completely playable at the highest levels by next year... lol And pilotasso... I am a massive fan of AMD and commercial competition in general, but the Fx-70 and its family isn't going to cut it unless those vista tricks are substantial. -
Tommorrow Sweeeeeet............... seriously... keep me posted...here's some reading material while you wait ;) http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=1&id=2160&pg=2

hitman... I'm confused, do you have that pc4000 in your possession right now, and if so can you get a full refund. -

The 2 processors I quoted are 200$ each... they're fast to start with but you will very likely be able to overclock them to the bejeezus belt. Do you mean 900$ on the whole setup...CPU, Motherboard and Ram? -

3Sqn_Fudd replied to hitman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey hey hitman.... it's your lucky day... I love these questions. Lets clear some confusion first... You said your options are two AMD chips which led me to think you have some DDR1 ram that you had to use for the build, but your listing AMD socket AM2 as a possibility which means you would need DDR2... so my question is this... is your upgrade really encompassing a CPU, Motherboard, and RAM? If it is then you simply must go Intel Core 2 Duo... if you don't I will hunt you down and kill your goldfish. I'll just leave it at that, anyone wants to come onto this page and give a credible counter argument for purchasing an AMD CPU at this time better let the effects of the peyote you're eating wear off first (and this is coming from a guy currently running an AMD Opteron 165.) So... assuming that your buying a CPU, Motherboard and DDR2 Ram I would go for this set up. CPU Option 1 - Core 2 Duo E6300 Option 2 - Core 2 Duo E4300 ... this one is very very similar to the E6300 but it has a lower FSB so it will overclock better on a worse equipment, among other things. DDR2 Ram (RAM prices compared to timing and speed differences are so close, I would go for fastest rated .... Im no memory expert though) I would take a look at these in a 2 gigabyte set (206$ @ newegg) http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_platinum_dual_channel Motherboard - Go for a socket 775 board with a 965 or 975 chipset, something thats been around for awhile and has bios revisions and physical board revisions... Some thing like these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131045 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813121059 So there you have it ... CPU for 200$, Ram for 206$, and motherboard for plus or minus 200$ and you're set for 2 years... way below your budget About dual core vs single core, yes LockOn itself wont use both cores, but if you have a dual core chip your stick software, nor hyperlobby will be using the core lockon is using. Therein is the benefit. Plus think of day to day applications when you're multitasking (web browser, winamp, messenger service, etc etc etc...all at once,) thats where the dual cores come into there own as well. Also, watercooling..sweet! Danger Den? Swiftech? a TEC cooler? a spray bottle? lol As for vista... buy a copy of Windows XP that has an upgrade coupon to the type of Vista that you'll want (and as far as i know there are many types... MS is building for niches or something) Ok im subscribed to this thread -
Blaze please do... and dont forget to pm with your impressions. I'd love to hear a full run down of your experiences... What RAM are you using, in fact, what are your total specs... and yes you're right.... Newegg got it in today

For all that is good in this world do NOT buy the Asus Striker... unless there is some random feature that you must have then do not, that board promised the world at 400$ and delivered a bunk FSB that 130$ boards could surpass, and added some problems on the side. 965, 975, 680i, 650i, RD600.... they all to varying degrees have their quirks and none have completely shone. I would hit a 965 or 975 chipset thats been out for awhile...has bios revisions and physical board revisions. Having said that I am thinking about getting an Asus Commando (and yes...if I get that board I will not wear underwear while seated at my computer lol.) It's got a vdroop problem but its fixable. The BadAxe 2 looks great as well. Ill plop a E4300 in it and be on my way. It truley does suck these mobo days.... the DFI RD600 was supposed to be "it" just like the Ultra-D and its variants were a year ago but that hasnt panned out. Research at XS forum, HardOCP, OC forums, anandtech etc.... Last i heared it was a definite no no to get a striker

x52 Pro profile editor not working properly.
3Sqn_Fudd replied to OsageCowboy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Recall... he's got the new X-52 Pro Hey Osage... Where did you get it? How much was it? Have you used a regular X-52 and how does the spring feel compared to the older X-52? Stiffer I hope.... Honestly... a stiffer spring and I'm not sure how a cougar or CH would be any better... I may be forgetting some of the features of those products however -
I usually pop the canopy and throw my lunch box into the intake of the engine closest to the missile... If its a radar missile it actually goes after the small strips of aluminum that eject out of the back... and if it's a IR missile it's attracted also to the super heated strips. Nah m8 ... assume that if your opponent can carry r-27et's, they are. plan accordingly...

Another Saitek x52 question
3Sqn_Fudd replied to VMFA117_Poko's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Whoa fellas... there's no reason to use banding for scope movement, by which I think you mean TDC slew. Just go in game to Mouse (then Axis switch)>> TDC slew (horizontal, vertical) >>> set the top one to Axis 0 and bottom one to Axis 1 ... This will allow you to slew TDC and Shkval. The only thing I do with the mini-mouse in the profile editor is change sensitivity. Are you sure you allowed SST to install all 4 drivers during the first installation? Works really well... Shkval and TDC move quikley to where they're needed. Also, I like the pinkie as "shift" Keep working on your profile... don't borrow anyone elses...it will be much better for you -
Grab a rotary tool and start cutting!!! ... Seriously....

Nvidia 8800gts + 2.6 AMD Dual Core =
3Sqn_Fudd replied to 3Sqn_Fudd's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeh.... I would spend 20 dollars for the Su25t and damage model alone. Don't base it off of game play movies though, the effects they put in the movies make the game seem graphically better. Guys... I kinda left this thread dead, the card has been great. Image quality is awesome (The initial sceenshots i put up were on lower qualities.) Still cpu limited, but there's more overhead there for sure. I'm usually running at 8af and 8aa though... anymore really and opposing fighters are just tiny dots. -
I usually dont participate in thread like this but what I would love to see is the ability to manipulate way points (and even share them with others) in a multilayer environment. Imagine the usefulness of that. Map makers make rough waypoints to points of interest but they seldom coincide with what you (or a flight) really want to do.

To the OP.... if you need a ballpark for Graphics head here.. http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html It sounds as if you're getting good stuff a month or more out so just wait... Mobo revisions etc will be out by then, and you may want to wait for ATI''s 600 releases. as for other things... getting an x6800 is total overkill unless you're going phase change... you could bounce the multipliers around with the RAM but I just dont see the need. My advice always is have a nicely scaled PC... meaning dont go all out on one thing just to skimp in another area. You'll be much happier.
