Hi guys I am setting up my system and I just wanted to check best practice running my SSDs for best gaming performance. All your thoughts are welcome. 2X Samsung Evo 860 SATA SSDs, one for Win10 and one for flight sims. Most recent firmware. Formatted with NTFS file system (OS drive has 3 partitions created by the Win10 installer). Q1) Does the choice of file system matter for an SSD in terms of performance? Q2) Enable drive provisioning, yes or no? Q3) Best Samsung Magician drive mode? Q4) Will using system memory as drive cache effect gaming with 16GB RAM?

Does this method work if moving the DCS installation to a new system or must I run the installer again?

For 1440p and no VR I would go for a 3070Ti but for VR I am inclined to wait for the 4000 series to come out.
-
Q1) Best GPUs for 1440p? Q2) Best GPUs for VR?

Any thoughts on getting an Intel 10 series cpu, I was considering a i5-10600KF? Is more than 6 physical cores even useful for flightsims?

My next build will be I7-9700K + 1080Ti + 32GB RAM. Can you suggest a "good" curve for flight simming e.g. 1000R, 1500R or 1800R etc?
-
Q) Can anyone suggest best minimum and maximum screen sizes for a 1440p? I had assumed 27' or 32'. Q) Can anyone share their experiences with different monitor curvatures?
-
By "downscaling" I just mean having a native 4K monitor but running Windows and DCS etc at 1440p. Would image quality be noticeably degraded? I am not planning to run DCS at 4K with my current hardware, I just though it might be a future investment.

Looking for: # 1440p 16:9 monitor. # IPS or VA panel. # 28" or 32". # Freesync or Gsync. # Up to £500 - might purchase more for multi monitor. # Good for night flying - good contrast and deep blacks. Q) I am undecided about a curved screen. Any suggestions of a good curvature for flight simming? Q) Will downscaling from a 4K monitor to 1440p impact image quality? All your thoughts are much appreciated.

Any recommendations for a programmable LED keyboard in fall 2020 - really looking for a budget option? Does not have to be mechanical or any fancy lighting effects. I just want to be able to: 1) Set the colour of all the keys to whatever single colour I want - e.g like the green colour in US cockpits. 2) Even better to program the colour of individual keys.

Some questions re graphics setup for DCS v2.5.6, yes I am aware of graphics setup tutorials but would like some specific answers: Q1) Should I enable "Disable fullscreen optimizations" for DCS.exe? (Right click DCS.exe > Properties > Compatibility) Q2) Are there any ED recommended Nvidia graphics settings as the Nvidia profile does not seem to have been updated in a long while? Q3) Can all graphics optimisations be achieved with NVIDIA Control Panel and not using Nvidia Inspector? Q4) Why is there Run.exe as well as DCS.exe and do I need to associate both of these to an Nvidia profile?

Is there an equivalent override to SSAA in Nvidia Inspector?

So I enabled AHCI in BIOS did a new Win10 Pro install on my 860 Evo. There were no Win10 AHCI drivers from my motherboards manufacturer. Samsung Magician shows: "ACHI Mode Deactivated". :wallbash: Any ideas?

In the same way some people like to see weathered textures in the 3D cockpit some people might appreciate the realism of the compass maintenance... plus it looks cool!

+1 Yeah I agree

Q7) Any advantages to having a dedicated SSD for the swap file, perhaps a cheaper smaller size drive? +1
-
So in that case I'll be reinstalling Windows7 on the SSD: Q5) Other than AHCI mode, is there anything else I need to set in BIOS for SSD compatibility? Q6) Any suggestions on what I do with the windows swap file? My PC has 16GB of RAM.

I have some questions re setting up an SSD, I have: # Samsung Evo 860 1TB SATA SSD. # Windows7. Initially I wanted to just add the SSD as additional storage to put DCS on. Q1) In BIOS my storage mode is IDE, does the SSD *need* AHCI enabled to run with all it's features enabled - particularly TRIM function? (I believe with Windows7 I would have to reinstall Windows after enabling AHCI.) Q2) I was going to: # Upgrade the SSDs firmware. # Enable Performance power profile. Is there anything else I need to enable in windows to help maximise performance of the drive? Q3) Does the choice of filesystem matter for an SSD in terms of performance? Q4) I was going to disable: # Windows search. # Windows indexing service. # System restore on the SSD drive. Is there anything else I need to disable in windows to avoid unnecessary writes?

# Can anyone give specific examples how a mouse with lots of buttons is useful? # I'm wondering if I should put the cash into my HOTAS and make do with a basic keyboard and mouse?

2 vs 3 front fan cases, is this a limitation for OCing? I was probably going to go for the Enthoo Pro but the design seems a bit dated compared to say the H500.
-
Gaming case recommendations please for: # High airflow case with a view to CPU air OCing. # That will sensibly fit a Noctua NH D15 CPU cooler. # Will be set up for +ve air pressure. # Midi or full tower. # I do not need see through side panels. # Ideally up to around £100. Some cases I've looked at: Cooler Master H500 Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition Phanteks Enthoo Pro Phanteks P600s

Looking for some advice and recommendations for gaming keyboards and mice for flightsim, haven't used such hardware before. Q) Particularly for combat sim (obviously!), what sort of features are most useful? Q) Is a gaming mouse useful if you already use HOTAS?

I also took a look at some 21:9 1440p displays, not sure if I want a curved screen since I'll be using the monitor for other tasks. What do people think of this LG IPS display: LG 24UM88C £490 Both it's frequency and Freesync range can be expanded using this tool to up 75Hz from 60Hz and to 35-75Hz from 40-60Hz respectively. So I suppose I should also ask what people think about DCS and FPS over 60?

I can't find that available in the UK :(.
