OK so leaning towards the 2700X mainly because the parametric GPU is a 1080 or 1080Ti. My main problem is M/B - I'm not an extreme OCer but want good power delivery for future proofing. CPU: R7 2700X (not planning to OC - perhaps with CPU upgrade in future) CPU H/S: Stock GPU: EVGA GTX 1080Ti Black Edition OR wait for 11## GPUs M/B: Asus X470 Strix-F (perhaps overkill as I'm not planning to OC???) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB 2x16 kit Storage: 2X Samsung 860 Evo 500GB PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750 OR Corsair RM750x OR use 5+yo Corsair TX-850 Case: Fractal Design Meshify C OR reuse Coolar Master CM690II OS: Windows 10 (retaill or OEM???) Total cost ~ £2000 All thoughts welcome particularly about the M/B.

Comments on this monitor for DCS World?
Django replied to protea1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Have you considered a 1440p monitor that can operate at a higher refresh rate? Also investigate the input lag of the display too, check out reviews. -
Is there an official statement from ED about "fixed" memory management in 2.5OB because I can't find it???

DCS 2.5 optimum monitor refresh rate

At 1440p would you rather have a GSync 17" panel than a non-GSync 32"? -
DCS 2.5 optimum monitor refresh rate
Django replied to Django's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So I'm going to need a GTX1080 or better? -
But how is an R7 2700X any faster than a R5 2600X for DCS since DCS 2.5 doesn't use logical cores and I doubt will do anything useful with those extra 2 physical cores? Do you mind sharing your parts list???
-
For what it's worth... one of the reasons I'm planning a Ryzen5 build vs Ryzen7 is because I'm not convinced that any current flightsim needs more than 6 physical cores and I also do not know of any flightsim that uses logical cores. Also I feel that Intel is taking the p### making consumers delid their CPU to get full thermal performance.

DCS 2.5 optimum monitor refresh rate
Django replied to Django's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Great, it would be good to see some monitor videos orientated towards flight sim. -
So what's the verdict on monitor refresh rate and DCS 2.5: Q1) Do I *need* 60FPS+ for, say dog fighting? Q2) Can we define an "optimum refresh rate" for the sim?
-
What is the best matching GPU to go with the R5 2600X? In system build reviews many seem to suggest an R7 1700 or 2700 series CPU for a GTX1080 or better, but why???
-
That's why I'm sticking with Corsair. You may find more compatibility up to DDR4-2666 since anything greater is "overclocked".
-
What M/B did you go for? Yeah, I was pondering whether to go for 2X SATA 500GB SSDs or a 250GB M2 for the OS and non sim applications and only 500GB SSD.

Requirement: # 1440p single display # DCS 2.5 # X-Plane11 Considering the following build although I might wait for prices of the 2600X and X470 boards to come down a bit (... as for RAM - we live in hope!): # CPU Ryzen 5 2600X (not planning to OC since gains seem marginal) # M/B Asus Prime X470-Pro # RAM Corsair LPX 32GB (2X16) DDR4-3200 # GPU GTX1070 under £400 or GTX1080 under £500 ??? # Display 27" 60Hz or 32" LED TV ??? # SSD Samsung 860 Evo 500GB (OS + sims) # PSU Corsair RM750x or reuse 6+ yo 850W PSU ??? # Case reuse Cooler Master CM690II ??? All thoughts on this welcome, particularly interested in getting the right GPU for this build. Space limitations mean multi-monitor probably a no no, waiting for next gen VR.

There are some good deals on graphics cards: GTX1070 around £400 GTX1080 around £500 Anyway, can an i5-3470 handle triple monitors with a GTX1080 for DCS at 1440p?
-
By the way, how do you guys think the following would compare in DCS and generally?: i5-3470 3.2GHz (3.6 boost) FX-6350 3.9GHz (4.2 boost)
-
I have an Ivy Bridge i5-3470 3.2GHz (locked) CPU and *when* I find a motherboard (sigh) I plan to install 16GB DDR3 RAM and an SSD. I also have a GTX780Ti GPU. What GPU, current or older generation, would be a good match for this CPU for DCS 2.5 at 1440p on a single display?
-
Something else ED could potentially get detailed info on + you can fly it off of an aircraft carrier + dedicated multiplayer capabilities = e.g. EA-6B, E-2, or even helicopters to add to naval warfare scenario. Otherwise ED take the plunge and give us a study level military widebody!
-
In that case what cards would you suggest for a R5 1600X, and for R7 1700X?
-
An i7-7700K may be a better match for a GTX1080 card but I wouldn't expect a significant improvement in DCS, e.g. I believe DCS only uses physical cores (???). You might consider saving some money on an i5-7600K? Do you have a specific GTX1080 card in mind? Unless you're building a compact system go for a card with a better than reference cooling solution to get the most out of the card. What resolution do you plan to run DCS at? For single monitor use at 1440p I'd expect a GTX1070 to be suitable. Perhaps the 1080 or better for VR.

Any updates to memory use in 2.5? I'm wondering if greater than 32GB RAM is going to be useful for anyone like it was in 1.5.8.
-
I was looking at getting a dual channel 32GB kit but I'm reconsidering, it really depends upon how memory use turns out in 2.5. What CAS is your memory?
-
Recommended RAM in 2.5 is 16GB, I recall some users needing more than 16GB for 1.5.8, so how are people finding 2.5 for RAM use? I'm considering a non-VR PC build so wondering if the jump to 32GB RAM is worth it for 2.5.

Considering Overclock for DCS 2.5
Django replied to Exorcet's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For overclocking you'll need a good heat sink and quality PSU. You can damage your hardware if you don't know what you're doing!!! -
I'd consider Ryzen 7s if the price was lower, now I'm looking at mainly the 1600X. What memory speed are you running?
-
Is that at 1440p?
