Yes I also experience your issues. THe sight stops working, and attempting to release bomb on wing pylons , actually launches the AIM-9. Even though all the switches are set correctly. To assure bomb release, DO NOT arm guns/missiles, and do not power up wingtip pylons. I think there is a fire control bug or malfunction where the system is confused as to which weapon to launch, and it defaults to AA SRM . Center pylon bombs are not affected. Only wing pylons. Rockets are not effected and are fired. In combat this sucks, as to assure AG weapon release. For a given bomb run the switchology should be; Weapon delivery mode is set to Bomb or Ripple Only pylons with bomb to be released should be ON. Rest are OFF. Bomb fusing set to Nose for MK lowdrag bombs and M117 bomb. Nose/Tail for retarded (gigity) bombs. Sight set to Manual with DEPR set to 80-100 (Down) as appropriate given the bombing tables. Guns/MSL Arm is OFF. That does it, at least for me, but I find the whole thing kind of silly. As coming off a bomb run, with enemy air threat, you have to quickly set ARM Gun/MSL and set Sight to MSL or Guns1 or Guns2, and turn wingtip pylons to ON. If time allows, set Fuse to SAFE, Weapon selector to OFF. Now you are in pure AA mode. Regardless of weapons and sight setting, you still have to watch for SAMs and AAA, and be ready to drop chaff/flares. Common methodology for switchology , trained in RW armed forces (in NATO) is W.I.N. What's Important Now. So once at IP, run the lighting fingers of death, to set switches as needed for bomb delivery. Coming off the target, assuming good release, watch for SAM and AAA, then air for threats. Drop chaff and flares anyway. Then have lightning fingers of death configure switches and sight for rockets AG, or Air2Air mode. LFoD need to be practiced. With WIN. Priority #1 scan for threats, be ready with chaff/flares. Gun/MSL Arm is ON, wingtip pylons are ON. Priority #2 Set bomb AG switches and sight correctly Priority #3 Execute weapon delivery , then revert to Pri#1. If clear of threats, Priority #4 Set switches for rockets , if any. May be skipped if no rockets are carried. Revert to Pri#1. To be fair, Mig-21Bis switchology is worse then F-5E. Especially for bomb delivery, and guided AG missiles. 3rd gen types just don't have the 4th gen avionics with instant AA-AG mode HOTAS button.

Carrying 2 AIM-9P5, 2 MK-83 on inboard pylons, and centerline fuel tank. No outer pylon stores. For bombing, switch was set as follows; - All station switches are ON -Guns.Missiles switch is Armed (Up) -Bomb Fuse arm swtich to Nose -Weapon selection is set to Bomb -Sight to Manual with 100 Down Depr. Pressed Weapon Release button at proper time. No release. On re-atack switched to Ripple. Once again no release. But AIM-9 fired. With fire control system set to AG. Sight in Manual, Weapon set to BOMB, and fuse set to nose. Problem. On another re-attack turned off all pylon switches to OFF except inboard pylons which were left to ON. Once again no-release att Weapon Release button press/HOLD. Same for another run set to RIPPLE. Nothing that I did would release MK-83 on inner pylon. I wound up jettisoning them prior to landing. Center pylons mounted MK83/82 release fine. So I figure there is an issue with stores management in this build of 2.5.1 (latest update).

There is no DEFFERED SHADING option in 2.5.1 menu. The option for Defered Shading has disappeared in 2.5.1.
-
Although the updater works, it freezes after completion with message "Waiting For torrents to shutdown". The message does not go away, the window is frozen, and has to be killed manually.
-
So I got 2.5.1 and J-11A config and working. Seems OK. Only real difference, that I can see, is that J-11A can carry R-77, while SU-27 cannot. J-11A is Chinese clone of SU-27B+. But it is not availale as flyable plane when Russia is selected. Only Chinese. Will SU-27 be updated to FlankerB + in DCS? J-11A handles pretty well. Perhaps roll rate is bit slower then SU-27. G*d please expedite DCS's development of PFM/ASM for Mig-29S. Amen.
-
I don't think 2.5.1 is available just yet.
-
So where is the download link? Only available links are for 2.5 and 2.5 Beta (which is not 2.5.1).

I guess this is more a generic DCS issue then any specific module. There is little to none low level buffeting, when flying NOE, 200 feet AGL or less. A small aircraft, like F-5E, Mig-21bis, should shake and rattle flying over uneven terrain, and situation gets worse in valley's. Well it gets worse in real world. But flying Mig-21, F-5E 100 feet off the deck is nice and smooth. This issue was highlighted old Discovery Wings documentaries on F-111F and B-1B. On another doc on Tornado, RAF Tornado pilot describes how easy Tornado is too fly through low level buffeting. I suppose buffeting would need a more sophisticated weather and meteorological modeling in DCS.

At night, safely landing on any field in Normandy is an excellent challenge. I love those expeditionary aluminum plates covering runways. But man'o'man at night, dusk and dawn, seeing the runway threshold, and runway alignment is not easy. Even with A-10C NVG. With F-5E, you have to set approach waypoints to guide yourself, and you have to hit the waypoints at speed and altitude. What is needed are amber obstruction lights, dimmed of course. Those would not be part of map but a Structure object. Smoke effect object are not visible at night. User can place those lights at runway thresholds, and a pair midpoint of runway. I am of the opinion that treelines are too close to runway thresholds, so a steeper glideslope is required. Of course those fields were built to accommodate WWII aircraft. Even with Gamma set to 2.4, it is nearly impossible to make out runway at night in Normandy. I love it! This is the obstruction light. https://pr-tech.com/product-category/faa-obstruction-lights/ Or some other object. A burning barrel, a tire covered in Cyalume chemiluminescent paint, a torch.

A-10C LMFD map display only has 10 and 20nm . At 5nm , 40, and 80 nm the map is not showing.

Well if we compare effect in DCS to RW, then DCS is correct. No change needed. If we compare DX11/Game engine shading to what we see in movies and TV, then DCS rotor disk needs a motion blur FX, or a textured rotor disk. In VFX world , when we do heli rotors or propellers, at a given RPM, we turn off accurate geo and replace it with circular textured geometry, as it renders faster and looks better on screen. But in DCS, with Shark and UH1, and Gazelle, there simulation of blades, with asymmetric lift, advancing/retreating blade, precession, coning, blade stall due to Vne. All the juicy rotary wing goodies, including damage. If anyone is interested, the best motion blur artifacting is done on Autodesk's (former SolidAngle) Arnold Renderer. Soon Arnold will ship with all GPU renderer. I think we may start seeing blending fusion of game GPU and pro-GPU, as well as combined GPU/CPU.

In RW blades, obviously, do cast shadows, and do create a flickering effect. This was/is a serious problem for rotary flight crews/ So much that in 1950's DOD issued a RFP for technology or process to minimize the effect. It became safety issue, with bright sunlight or exceptionally bright moon. The effect is something like an epilepsy sufferer, getting a seizure from bright strobe lights. Now pilots did not go into seizure, but they experienced spots, and spatial disorientation. The solution was some kind of polarization on for crew window 'glass'.

I also have nonlinear ON. What exactly does it do. I also curve bias of 25 on all axixes except throttle.
-
New discovery, at least for me. Ejected and landed player pilot turns into first person walker game. The pilot can walk, turn look around.

Although not as diverse in terrain elevation, this map reminds me of Central Europe and Southern Baltic coast. I wish it had winter textures. I like the austere airfields, without lights and modern facilities. I have wanted Expeditionary Airfield used by NATO aviation, and Normandy provides that kind of. Though without rough ground handling and rough landings that A2 EA plates provide. As well as lack of center point snag cables to arrest fast jet landings. Plenty of water for amphibious operations and anti-ship missions. I kind of got tired of Georgia, and NTTR, while great map, has no water for naval vessels. A flyable Tornado GR4 would be kickA in this theater.

So I purchased a new module, the Normandy and WWII asset pack. Order went through, pmt went through. But installation is having a problem. Module manager tries to download and install. But what happens is that once it finishes, it freezes with "DCS Updater 2.6.25.40 Shutting the torrents down...." The window goes light grey , freezes, and installation fails to complete. Thank you.

If you had the money to develop a concept for DCS ..
DaveRindner replied to Mizzy's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would look into possibly bridging DCS with Google Earth database, or open source Earth terrain database. Failing that, developing an end user terrain development environment. Where end user can create his/her own terrain and populate it with available assets. Trees, roads, structures, etc... Ability to import, but not export, custom user geometry via OBJ, FBX, or Alembic ABC, or other Open Source polygon geometry format. Some time back, some games based on game engines, shipped with special stripped down versions of 3D modeling (no animation) software for creating their own levels. -
This is more a question to developers, regarding motion blur fx in DX12 and DCS. Not certain if DCS uses DX12. Is motion blur in DX12 an expensive process as either post or shaderFX? Does DX11/12 even suppourt motion blur?

Would be nice to have a global COLOR SATURATION slider. The colors, often in DCS, are unrealistically vibrant. I suppose it is a taste issue. I would set that slider at 75%.

I get this random freeze, about 30%, when leaving OPTIONS. The screen goes black, DCS freezes , and home screen fails to show. Requiring a Process END TASK through Win10 Task Manager. Mostly happens after CONTROLS. This is not the restart of DCS that happens after changing resolutions in System Options. This is screen goes black and DCS freezes until killed. Any changes made to Controls binding in that session, even if saved as profile, are not recorded, when DCS is restarted. With 2.5 Beta it happened few times, but it is happening more with release build. Release build 2.5.0.15365

Ability to go into cockpit of non-flyable aircraft.
DaveRindner posted a topic in DCS Core Wish List
Ability to go into cockpit of non-flyable aircraft. Ye' can't fly them, but at least ye' can see what its doing from cockpit's POV.
