Thanks 9! Would you please ask the team to work out something regarding being able to alter roughmets? It's essential especially regarding rendering of bare metal.
-
Thanks for the reply 9. Its good to know that y'all are working on some kind of solution. I do understand about the need to protect your property. Personally, I don't feel that we were overreacting due to having little to no information from ED about this issue and I hope that you understand our concerns. Please do what you can to regularly keep us informed about possible solutions, even if it's "we're still working on it guys, no news yet".

I have participated numerous times in the competitions and greatly enjoyed seeing what's possible given hard work by talented creators. The winning skins are now part of the default hangar and a (IMHO) real boon to the community. I hope to participate in any future competitions but there will surely be no such competition for the F-5. No, as @Mach3DS and others have said, it's just not possible to skin it as is... "Old School" methods won't work. I can live without doing the F-5 but my great fear is that any new releases (please, please, please NOT the MiG-29!) will be in the same category of non skinnable. Is there any time estimate to "until we do get something better"? Looks like I'm going to have to really push my desire to get on one of the module makers skinning teams... (hint, hint, wink, wink Developers).

Not when I can make a better product myself.

Ah Crap. What a shame. Perhaps the MV might be tweaked to read the encrypted files? Or a completely new MV? Even if possible it would be low priority.
-
I'm kinda surprised that we haven't heard word one (AFAIK) from ED about this subject. Livery makers have been commenting about since we noticed back in November that the S-3 was encrypted. I really hope that the comment by Waterman about pay skins is mistaken but I can't help but wonder.

This! My fear is that all future modules will be like this, without access to the edm file in order to load the module into the Model Viewer. This would make QUALITY user user skins a thing of the past. @BIGNEWY @NineLine, is this the way of the future?
-
@BIGNEWY and @NineLine I'd like to volunteer my services...

The unofficial "2025 and Beyond" video hype / speculation & discussion thread
II.JG1_Vonrd replied to Lace's topic in DCS 2.9
This! So, if the MiG-29 is doable, why not any of the earlier Redfor? The excuse that data is not available for them rings false to me (especially given the apparent availability of data for the MiG-29). There are examples of many Cold War Warsaw Pact aircraft throughout the Western hemisphere (and several airworthy examples). Saying that Russia won't allow their development makes no sense for a Swiss based company. Yes, DCS is originally Russian and many of the Devs are also Russian. Does this fact play into how DCS decides the balance of modules put into production? I don't claim to have any answers but I'm sorely disappointed at the apparent imbalance. Maybe it's just that they perceive the market for modern NATO aircraft more lucrative. But without an opposing force to use Western aircraft against, it's all just masturbation. -
OK, found them: {"HB_Char_RobinOlds_overall_highrez", DIFFUSE , "hb_char_robinolds_overall_highrez", false}; {"HB_Char_RobinOlds_Pants_highrez", DIFFUSE , "hb_char_robinolds_pants_highrez", false}; Should these lines be entered into the livery's description lua along with the modded (orange) "highrez" dds files into the livery folder in Saved Games or does it need to be a separate folder within the Mods folder?

Hmm, it crashes when I try to open the cockpit EDM. I'll try it on my other machine.

You probably have to join the main Livery Art Group server first: https://discord.gg/mhYUj35A -
I don't see an edm file for the cockpit only. Do you know what it's called? I have a full description file generated from the aircraft itself but don't see any lines containing "highrez". Thanks for the help!
-
Thank you! Understood about being busy.

Gonna bump this one more time in hope of finding what files are used for the internal flight suit view. If I don't get a reply I assume that there is a reason for not divulging that info and will shut up.

I could probably help but not for a while since I have a line of projects waiting. You should post your request at the DCS: Livery Art Group Discord: https://discord.com/channels/547961984658833408/929137570359697409 -

This will be the next depiction of 37+22 in Norm90J and ACE configuration. Looks like they worked these aircraft really hard. -
Are they accessible to users? If so, would you tell me what they are and how to construct the lua?
-
I must be doing this wrong as the default flight suit shows in 1st person, not the orange. Does the 1st person view use a different dds than the one for external view (HB_Char_RobinOlds_overall.dds)? Is my description lua incorrect? Something else? @Zabuzard?

F-4 Phantom Module not authorized DCS OB
II.JG1_Vonrd replied to exssive's topic in Installation Problems
A link to the solution here. For other people who thought that excluding the game exe is sufficient (which obviously is not the case) -
OMG... that was it! I did have the DCS exe excluded but not the folder. Thanks for schooling me on that @Zabuzard! For those with Windows Defender here are the steps (for me the excluded folder is "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta") To exclude a folder from antivirus scans on Windows 11, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings > Exclusions > Add or remove exclusions and then select the folder you want to exclude; remember that excluding folders from scans should be done cautiously as it can potentially reduce your system's security. Key steps: Open Settings Navigate to Update & Security Select Windows Security Choose Virus & threat protection Click Manage settings Under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions Click Add an exclusion and choose the folder you want to exclude.

F-4 Phantom Module not authorized DCS OB
II.JG1_Vonrd replied to exssive's topic in Installation Problems
Windows Defender Firewall and yes, EVERYTHING DCS is checked as allowed to pass. I think you're right that the dll has been deleted or quarantined since I can't find it anywhere in the files. Why is a repair or reinstallation of the F-4E not resurrecting that dll file? -
Windows Defender Firewall here. ALL DCS is checked as allowed but it still hits the HeatblurJester.dll even though I can't find that file anywhere. I can't tell Defender to allow it since it wants you to browse to the file in order to include it in the list but it's probably been removed. I've tried uninstalling the F-4E, shutdown and restart and re-install the F-4E and it's still borked. I'm at my wits end.
