F-4 Phantom Module not authorized DCS OB
II.JG1_Vonrd replied to exssive's topic in Installation Problems
I now have the same issue regarding the F-4 authorization. DCS is allowed through all security and firewall. While doing a complete repair I got this error. -
@Beta Sokol Thanks very much! Makes sense now.

Thanks for the reply but I don't understand what to do with the description lua. Also, I looked in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\F-4E\Cockpit but see no livery folder or files. Would I make a Livery folder? Place my Livery folder in there? Place the description.lua in there? I also see a bunch of Diffuse files in the description.lua like "hb_char_robinolds_overall_highrez", "hb_char_robinolds_pants_highrez", etc. Could provide some more detail about how to proceed? If I did get the flight suit to show in 1st person would it break IC check? And Merry Christmas to you too. EDIT: I think I have a clue now. I see those files in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\F-4E\Textures\Cockpit\VR_Body.zip. Still, I wonder about breaking IC. I don't want to spend the time on it if it does break it.

I've made the pilot flight suit orange (early West German) using the "HB_Char_RobinOlds_overall" and "HB_Char_RobinOlds_CWU" files and they show fine in external view but not in the first person pilot view. Are there other files that I can manipulate to achieve this? @Zabuzard?
-
@BIGNEWYI haven't checked how the system works in game (I'm away from my gaming computer ATM) but this from the Flight Manual might shed some light...
-
This thread being marked as being "solved" is a bit misleading. The main issue of the thread has evolved into the unfortunate issue of not being able to use the Model Viewer and the encryption / hiding of the files that we livery makers use. Perhaps remove the "solved" and let us know whether or not the MV issue will be changed in the future.

Wish List: F-4E - Gueneau 316 Helmet

@LanceCriminal86 Sorry about the late reply. Understood all and thanks for the response! -
Second submission to DCS Mi-24P skin contest November 2024. This is a Livery of the former (GDR) Mi-24P No. 361, C/N: 340 332 now depicted as post unification Luftwaffe 96+42 of Combat Helicopter Squadron 80. It served with the Luftwaffe from Oct 1990 thru Sep 1994. It was then transferred to the Hungarian Air Force, storage at Szentkirályszabadja May 1995 then Szolnok. Dec2017-Jan2019. Overhauled by 419th Aircraft Repair Plant (419 ARZ), a subsidiary of Rostec`s Russian Helicopters holding and changed Reg No. to 331 at 86th "Szolnok" Helicopter Base, Hungary. Details of note: 1) As can be seen in the historical photo it seems that the Luftwaffe had little love for the Hinds and maintenance suffered. The photo shows numerous and massive oil leaks. I just couldn't go that far but did weather this livery considerably from the prior GDR version. 2) The GDR Mi-24P's (and retained through the Luftwaffe and later in the Hungarian Airforce) had bare stainless ring seal plates around the exhaust stacks which had a high temp flexible seal contacting the exhaust stacks. I assume that they were supposed to keep dust, soot and FOD from entering the engine compartment through the gap between the stack and the fuselage skin. Please comment if you know more about them. I couldn't depict the flex seal without the ability to mod the 3d model. 3) Photos show that the left hand APU cover was bare metal (stainless?). 4) Photos also show the lower portions of the pylons were bare metal. 5) I don't think that they used the IR suppressors but I can't stand the plain brown default ones so I painted to match the camo and made connecting parts bare metal. 6) Flight crew and KORD gunners are given Luftwaffe gray uniforms and this is depicted. 7) I made an additional version of this skin with selectable Bort numbers which is included here. Due to the limitations of the DCS decal system I could only make it work for one number due to the number spacing (kerning). So it will be "96+x3" where "x" is the selectable number. Submitted to User Files. Links: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3342265/

These skins have been revised Nov 21, 2024 Both skins: 1) Closer investigation of photos found that apparently only the left half of the APU cover was bare metal. Livery changed to match. 2) KORD gunners given "Stritchtarn" summer camo uniforms. Skin "GDR Mi-24P No. 3xx Bort" 1) Selectable BORT number alignment corrected.

Yeah, true but never hurts to ask.

Add to the above request... please group small texture items in logical areas of the map together and not scattered throughout the map wherever a blank space happens to be. We sometimes spend hours trying to locate a particular item like a bolt or similar item.

I hope that they release this for sale before tariffs in the USA are imposed.

Fair enough

Sorry to raise this after so long but I'm curious about the reasoning behind keeping positive reactions anonymous since positive are the only reactions available. I could understand if there was options for negative reactions such as "thumbs down". What's the harm in seeing who "likes" your post?

Submission to DCS Mi-24P skin contest November 2024. This is a Livery depicting a German Democratic Republic (GDR) Mi-24P, No. 361, C/N: 340-332 of Kampfhubschraubergeschwader 5 (KHG-5) circa 1989. In December 1989, 12 Mi‑24P were delivered. This made the GDR the last member state of the Warsaw Pact to receive Mi‑24s with modern 9M114 anti-tank guided missiles. The GDR was the only operator of Mi‑24Ps outside the Soviet Union in the Warsaw Pact. C/N: 340-332 was delivered 30Dec1989 to Basepohl helicopter base 140 kilometer north of Berlin. Post unification it was re-marked as Luftwaffe 96+42 and served Oct 1990 thru Sep 1994. Then transfereed to the Hungarian Air Force, storage at Szentkirályszabadja May 1995 then Szolnok. Dec2017-Jan2019. Overhauled by 419th Aircraft Repair Plant (419 ARZ), a subsidiary of Rostec`s Russian Helicopters holding and changed Reg No. to 331 at 86th "Szolnok" Helicopter Base, Hungary. Details of note: 1) The GDR Mi-24P's had bare stainless ring seal plates around the exhaust stacks which had a high temp flexible seal contacting the exhaust stacks. I assume that they were supposed to keep dust, soot and FOD from entering the engine compartment through the gap between the stack and the fuselage skin. Please comment if you know more about them. I couldn't depict the flex seal without the ability to mod the 3d model. 2) Photos show that the APU cover was bare metal (stainless?). 3) Photos also show the lower portions of the pylons were bare metal. 4) I don't think that they used the IR suppressors but I can't stand the plain brown default ones so I painted to match the camo and made connecting parts bare metal. 5) It looks like the GDR flight crew had orange helmets and gray uniforms and this is depicted. The pilot also got an 80s style moustache. 6) I made an additional version of this skin with selectable Bort numbers. Look for "GDR Mi-24P No. 3xx Bort". Submitted to User Files. Links: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3341792/ and https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3341793/ I will do another livery depicting this same airframe post unification as Luftwaffe 96+42. As the photo shows, it was by that point quite weathered and apparently not well maintained.

You miss my point. Having the same color codes used for all official skins for a particular country assures that the colors would be homogenous for all of that countries skins when loaded in game. Everybody sees colors slightly differently and their equipment plays a part. One person's "accurate" looking color can be quite different from the other person's assessment.

Please do as Heatblur has done and include a list of args for all modules to use in the Model Viewer. It really saves having to perform the frustrating and time consuming process of moving each of the sliders to ID which moves a component such as the canopy, landing gear, etc. Here's the thread for the HB F-4E.

Would you say those were the colors the East Germans used? The photo I posted above seems to show the lighter color as more tan than gray. But the camera plays tricks. This one is all green shades. I wish ED would provide some guidance from their research.

Wish List: F-4E - Gueneau 316 Helmet
II.JG1_Vonrd replied to II.JG1_Vonrd's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Understood but the helmet already exists in the Mirage - F1. Could it be imported or adapted to the F-4E for Luftwaffe service? I realize that it's a different 3rd party module and might be politically (and technically?) difficult. Just asking for clarification. -
I plan on doing the first as East German and the next as the same airframe in post unification markings (the actual camo wasn't changed, just the markings). Later the same airframe was transferred to Hungary, overhauled and repainted and I will probably do that one also. I just wish that I had good color references. I will probably use the template colors for the default Russian colors since I don't think that the East Germans re-painted the camo when they received them. The colors on the one shown here I don't think are correct. It is a probably museum repaint.

I assume that there was considerable research and testing put into selecting the official livery colors to match the real life colors as close as possible. Trying to find a good color match is extremely difficult because of the wide variation of apparent colors seen in photos when doing research for a particular skin. It would benefit the current Hind skin competition if ED would post / publish the color codes for what they have found to be the best. I prefer Hex but RGB or CMYK would be fine. If there are known standards it would go a long way to having a homogeneous appearance throughout the game when using similar skins. I'm currently struggling to find the best match for an East German Hind. @BIGNEWY? @NineLine?

I will be extensively re-working this old skin of mine. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3321686/ Also a post unification Luftwaffe skin which I hadn't published.
