Is there a control binding or an arg to remove the oxygen mask? I want a screenshot of Robin Olds with the helmet skin I made and with his glorious 'Stache showing.
-
Sounds good to me. I'll go with that unless someone has a more definitive answer. Thanks!

I'm doing a skin of Robin Olds' F-4C SCAT XXVII. I can't quite make out all of the text. CAUTION THE CANOPY ???? MUST BE COMPLETELY CLEAR ???? ?????? BEFORE ACCOMPLISHING? THIS OPERATION Anybody know?

@KLaFaille are you an aircraft mechanic? Only a mechanic would have noticed this... I'm one and I hadn't noticed but now I can't un-see it...

"Official" F-4E Livery Discussion
II.JG1_Vonrd replied to LanceCriminal86's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
A fictional depiction of an F-4E in East German colors. The Aircrew's uniforms and helmets have been modified as East German as well. The Pilot's handle roughly translates to my last name in English and the the backseater... check in Google translate. I used MagicaThunder's "Homemade Paintkit which can be found here: digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3338228/. Thank you Sir! I also used bits and bobs from the HB default skins. Submitted to DCS User Files. Awaiting approval. Next up is Robin Olds' Scat XXVII. I haven't seen it done yet. -

Same here. Are there any plans to add bort numbers? -
Excellent... Thanks!
-
I would think that it would be at least adjustable by the ground crew to pilot's preference.
-
Bummer... but thanks for the reply @Zabuzard

Are there any plans to make the pilot's mirrors adjustable? (Maybe they already are but I haven't seen how). I found this statement by RL Phantom pilots regarding re-fueling: In the F-4, the canopy bow was right in your line of sight for looking at the tanker and gauging your reference points. I’d run my seat up higher than normal to be able to see over the bow just prior to the AAR (air to air refueling). I’d move into pre-contact position about 50 feet below the tanker, matching the tankers speed and heading, then once stabilized and cleared into contact either via the radio if in peacetime or via visual signals if working under EMCON (emission conditions – no radio transmissions). The boomer would then plug into the jet and I’d adjust my rearview mirror on the canopy bow to see the ‘apple,’ a bright orange plastic ball on the boom just ahead of the end of the boom itself. If I kept that centered in the mirror, I knew I stayed within the limits of the boom and could stay on there with constant, minor control inputs. AGM-45 Shrike Quick Guide by Klarsnow - updated June 5th 2024

Try "ARM" on Weapon Selector Knob. -
Ah... Maybe this should be incorporated in the Manual? I couldn't find anything related to this quirk.

This! Many people are unaware of the "_OFF" function (as I was until I saw it mentioned in some thread a while ago. Maybe it could be added in the general FAQ for DCS?). https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/custom_settings/

Nah, it's not a big deal. I can find at least one vid pertaining to what I want to practice that actually will play. Just to satisfy my curiosity, where are the files / folder related to the browser located?

This image shows the reflectivity (glossiness) from aft (most glossy) to fwd (most flat) and metallicness from left to right (pilot's view) from most to least metallic. The albido color is 35% gray. This can have a large influence for bare metal depiction and needs trial and error for each module. Note that the major influence here is the glossiness in the green channel (as far as depiction of bare metal goes). Also, the angle of the sun plays a major role as well. Again, lots of trial and error. This is the Roughmet dds. This shows the green channel (Glossiness) from Black (Glossy) to 50% gray (Matte) left to right. This shows the Blue channel (Metallicness) from White (Most metallic) to 50% Gray (Less metallic) top to bottom.
-
When I get a chance later I'll try and make some example screenshots.
-
These are really good demonstrations. However, I rarely paint the roughmet in colors prefering to work in greyscale in the Blue and Green channels. I find it more predictable that way. I wonder if you could post those same examples but showing the respective grays of the Blue and Green channels? It might be a good reference for skinners to refer to.

Copy. Sounds like there's no resolution then? No way to add codecs and hardware acceleration? I'm not concerned about performance when I'm following a tutorial.

For some (not all) videos I get the notification on screen "your browser can't play this video" but the video plays fine on my monitor in Chrome. Any ideas?
-
@Q3ark That's it! Thank you! Now I can watch Youtube tutorials while in game and switch the browser on and off. I find that if I copy the URL (from my monitor) and paste it in to the Browser (Ctrl+V) to be the easiest way to input the particular video that I want.

I had posted this in the patch feedback thread but haven't had any response. I'm thinking that a Bug Report might get more attention. I can open the Virtual Browser using the default RCtrl+V and also the buttons mapped to HOTAS (one for Open and one for Close). Once it's open I can't close it with any button or mouse cursor. I can select one of the options, Youtube for example, but can't type anything in the search window. Same for Google. Keyboard seems to have no input. Is there a Virtual keyboard somewhere? More instructions besides the short chapter in the HB F-4E Manual would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the updates! Are there any instructions about how to implement the Virtual Browser? I'm mostly interested in being able to watch Youtube tutorials while in game and being able to switch between the two. -
Nose gun. I haven't tried the others. Do you have suggestions?
