Another day, another TrackIR issue
MadCow replied to MadCow's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm replying instead of editing to make sure the post gets bumped to the top. I have found the problem after searching all day. It's a software conflict with TrackIR and nVidia's ShadowPlay. I found this post on NaturalPoint's forums: https://forums.naturalpoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=12911 I was about to revert to old drivers, and after reading that post decided to give that an attempt before reverting. It was an absolute success and there were 0 problems. So if anyone else has a problem with any of the TrackIR hotkeys not working in game, AND you have an nVidia card, check to make sure ShadowPlay is turned off. -

Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled. For some odd reason, I had to move the TrackIR to another usb port just for the camera to work again. Not sure what happened there. But, it's still non-functioning in regards to the hotkeys. Even using the default hotkeys, nothing works once I'm in either DCS or Arma 3. Very frustrating. -

That didn't fix it either :( I'm now removing TrackIR from my computer along with all registry entries. Will re-install and report back shortly. -

I'll do that now, but I've had a new development. I booted up Arma 3 to see what it was doing, and it looks like it's having the same exact problem as well. It's as if TrackIR or Windows is not sending the key inputs to the game, once I'm in them. I can have them running, alt tab and look into the TrackIR software, and everything works fine. But as soon as I get in game, I can look around but no hotkeys work. -

I am indeed using Teamspeak. It's not open on my desktop, it's down in the taskbar tray. What effect does this have on it? I used to be able to run TrackIR and Teamspeak just fine, flown sorties with some friends online even. The only thing that I can recall that's changed, was that I updated DCS World to the most recent version (not steam btw). I did in fact try this as well, saving the profile and then rebooting both applications. Hotkeys still don't work I'll give these hotkeys a try and see how they work. Edit: I just tried it without Teamspeak running, still a no go. Edit 2: I tried using DTWD's hotkeys. As the first time, they work completely fine out of game, but as soon as I go in game the hotkeys no longer work. I even went as far as shutting down every side application I had running, including my Razer keyboard software and Logitech mouse software. Still nothing. -
So this issue was asked a while ago, and I didn't think it was wise to necro a post from years ago. I'm having a problem with my TrackIR hotkeys working in game only. When I'm out of game, everything works fine. I read it might be a key conflict, so my first attempt was to remove every key in game that I was originally using. No dice. Then, I tried every combination of starting TrackIR and the game with and without administrator mode. Still nothing. To make sure it wasn't a key combo, I pulled up the keyboard list and searched for 3 keys that were not in the list. At least I don't see them. My shortcuts are now Alt + F6 up to F8. Once again, tried running in and out of administration mode. Nothing. I even attempted to restart as another forum post suggested. The only thing that did work, was when I bound the TrackIR profiles to Mouse Button 1 and 2. Except that becomes problematic when you're starting the aircraft up, and any time you need to use the OSBs. Anyone have this same experience and know how to go about fixing it?

A-10C Formation Flight Fundamentals Training
MadCow replied to AFAlinebacker42's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I'm interested in attending, but I currently can't make a guarantee. That's my moving weekend unfortunately. Mark me as a tentative cold start, and I'll pm you personally as the date is closer and I know more. -
Bingo, that was the problem rick. Not sure how I managed to do that, but thanks for the pointer. Rep inbound.

Ahh, good catch. I'll check that soon as I'm home. Does this mean there's no DCS config option that does this same behavior?
-
Does anyone know how to disengage the toggle setting for the brake (if it's in the sim)? I don't have rudder pedals so I use a button on my Saitek x45. Previously, I was required to press and hold the button for the breaks to apply. Currently, I just press the button once and the breaks are on until I press the button again. I don't believe there's an issue with the saitek profiler software, but I'll be checking that when I get home from work. Wanted to through this out there to cover all the bases in case there was an option in DCS World controller config settings that I'm some how missing.

Wasn't there a patch a little bit ago to fix significant slowdown when firing and the spent casings (particularly from the mustang) were causing significant slow downs in performance? Is it possible that while the patch fixed the slowdowns via what's being rendered, it may not have fixed the game recognizing their existence, and therefore the more you use the gun, the more memory you'll take?

The version numbering were wrong when we first started this endeavor yes. We got him successfully patched and we double checked we were on the same version. Once he's awake, we'll start working through the rest of your suggestions. Just to rule it out, I'd like to post my mission to see if anyone has time to view it. Maybe I just made a bad map? It's a very simple map though, designed for my buddy who hasn't flown in quite some time. Ramp start, crap tons of enemies, no triggers. Edit: Just read another comment by you Eno about making sure the network setting was set to LAN. Neither myself or my buddy did this, so I'll be adding this to the list of things to try with him. (http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1914513&postcount=25) Edit2: Don't worry about trying the mission. I tried using a default mission and he still can't find the server. We've worked through several of the suggestions. Trying the repair feature now. If this doesn't work, we're down to having to resinstall the entire thing. This really should not be this difficult to get a multiplayer mission going... BOA Training.miz

I seem to be having a problem just like this and this solution did not work for me sadly. Though I didn't have all 3 files, I only had network.cfg and network.vault. I deleted both and my friend still can't join. I also though maybe it was my router, so I opened the port...and then more ports...and then I just put my entire host machine in the DMZ (which isn't safe) and turned off windows firewall. He still can't see me on the server list :/

You can also cycle through your weapon profiles by using DMS left and right, but you have to be in CCIP or CCRP mode I believe. I'm a little rusty, about to get back into it myself. But I believe that's correct. Click your Master Mode button until you're in either one of those fire modes, have your HUD set as SOI, then left or right DMS to cycle through them. When I was flying every day (a year+ ago) I would set my GBU-12 profile settings during startup, then I wouldn't even touch the OSB buttons for weapon profile selections unless I needed to make a specific change to how an ordinance was used.

I think it's really important to understand a few basic things, and this is for everyone who reads and/or posts in this thread and the forum. There's also a lot of good lessons that can be put in other ways in normal life as well. 1. There are ALL kinds of people in this world, and with that there are many different things to excite them, make them swear, cry, and jump for joy. No human being is exactly alike, ever. No one should ever give advice as if it's the end all advice, particularly negative, unhelpful advice. Here's looking at you Ironmac. 2. With this said, when it comes to gaming there are "generally" (and take that with a grain of salt) 2 types of players. Those who prefer a quick fix, and those who enjoy challenges. Obviously, you can break those groups down even further, but that gets more detailed than what's needed for this particular conversation. 3. It's up to the individual to know exactly how they like to game. A good way to look at this is to identify what games you already play, or played in the past, and take a gander at its learning curve. Are you drawn to Call of Duty and Battlefield 4 only? You probably like the quick fix. If that's you, there's NOTHING wrong with that, but picking up a game with a massive learning curve WILL feel non-fun. Arma 2 and Operation Flashpoint are great counter examples as those two shooters (similar to CoD and BF4) have very steep learning curves for shooters. You simply will not survive run and gun style game play in those two. 4. If you find yourself enjoying games with large learning curves, then stay patient and take off small pieces at a time. Professional pilots do not learn how to fly this airframe in a month or two. The DO take "collage" classes to learn it. This is a "study" sim. It's as close to the real deal as ED is allowed to give to the public. 5. If you decide large learning curves are not your play style, do keep in mind there is a more arcade style system to this game, I think. I had heard it once or twice, but I prefer the sim version so I haven't looked too in depth. If you'd rather play it more casually or relaxed, ask more knowledgeable people. And don't forget Flaming Cliffs 3 fits the niche for people who want a less complicated flight system that they can much more quickly and easily jump right into. That pretty much covers it. I just want to re-iterate that negative comments really don't add anything of value to the discussion or the OP's thoughts and feelings on this discussion. The best thing any of us can do, if we feel we have the time, is to help the OP discover what HE likes, and them help him find a game mode, or maybe even another game that he'd prefer.

The day I got my drivers LEARNER permit (I was 15 years old), my mom thought it was a stellar idea to take me onto a 3 lane highway at rush hour. And then she about crashed us herself while she was on the passenger side lol. She laughs about it now, and agrees it wasn't the best decision...but it happens O.O

I may have found a bug with 1.2.7. It's certainly not critical as I've already found a work around, but if someone else can try this to verify it's a bug, or maybe it's just my installation is messed up, here's what I did: Go into Options -> Controls -> Axis Commands -> Click on an axis -> Axis Tune If you click Cancel, pressing Ok on the following screen takes you to the main menu as expected. However, if you click "Ok" while in the axis tune section, whether you've made a change or not, pressing the next "Ok" button will leave you on that screen. You have to spam click the ok button until it accepts it and brings you to the main menu. I've found that until you spam click ok, your changes will not be saved.

This worked for me on a fresh install. I wonder why it's acting like this now when it didn't used to. Edit: Ok, this is not working for me. More investigation work has begun.
-
Well then, I'll have to install the game tonight and check it out. Thanks for the info Cichlidfan.
-
Thanks for getting those shots for me Xavven! Much appreciated. Chichlidfan, how do we access the model viewer? I'm assuming we'd have to have the game installed for this, correct?

So I've taken up a project to create a Warthog in a game called Space Engineers. If you haven't heard of it, it's essentially a Minecraft in space with physics. I'm interested in building an A-10C that's large enough to make it look smooth while being built mostly out of square and triangular blocks. Problem: I can't find good reference photos that have the same camera distance. I don't have the game installed at this moment, but that's an easy fix if anyone happens to know if there's a model viewer where I can go in and get the specific shots. If there's no model viewer, maybe someone in the community would like to help me out? I need 6 shots: Front, Back, Top, Bottom, Left, and Right. The catch: They have to be as close as possible to being the exact same camera distance and be as perfectly straight on for each perspective as possible. I plan to lay a grid on top to help me build this out of the square blocks, and any change in distance can throw off the grid and layout in game. I don't mind doing the pic work myself if someone can point me in the right direction for a model viewer. If there is none and someone's got an interest and/or time to get some shots and send them to me, it would be HIGHLY appreciated and if I decide to make a vid of it and post on youtube, I'd add your name under credits for source material.

Or the Apache since we have 2 helicopters coming that have multiple seats ;)

I don't disagree with you at all Outlawal2. However, I think it's a good point to provide constructive criticism when possible. For me, I think it was be a good idea for ED to have a countdown timer. Not only did I lose out on the sales this time around, and will wait, I was talking a buddy into buying a few of the modules because they were on sale. Soon as I logged in on Sunday to start buying them, I called my buddy and told him to not worry about it. Had we had an accurate timer, we could have bought it Saturday, and ED would be richer for it, able to put that money towards EDGE or the F18 module.

No one here is "clueless" as you put it and no one here is "self entitled". Your response reminds me of the division in the games industry between the Publishers claiming "piracy" is the reason why they're not making a lot of money, and Valve's highly intelligent Gabe Newell saying piracy has little to no effect on the industry. No one here is saying ED can't do what they want. Most certainly, as the owner of this content, they can. But just as Gabe Newell has come out strongly in support of sales (He has MANY metrics that prove companies make MORE money during sales), some are pointing out that ED would likely make more money from their sales. I have no problem with ED doing what they want, when they want, how they want. I just wish they communicated the start and stop time of their sales better. Think of the Humble Bundles. They have a clock on the front page ticking down to the end of their sales. Had ED done that, and we missed it, well that's our own problem. But there was a complete communication breakdown this time around as to when exactly these sales were going to end.

I'm not entirely sure how you gathered I have a lot more money than you do. I'm unaware of your living situation, and that's personal information that's on a need to know basis, and I'm sure I don't need to know. Having a 10 y/o joystick, and the other toys were basically "donated" via christmas means I haven't spent any money except on the 3 games I currently own. All 3 of them were bought during previous sales because I couldn't buy them at full price. Speaking of that, you say we're in a heated argument over $20. It's not necessarily over just $20. My goal was to buy all the outstanding modules that I didn't own at the sale prices. I was forgoing getting a better joystick, to purchase modules I probably wouldn't even play very much to support ED. At normal prices, the outstanding modules left to purchase would cost me $180 before any taxes are added (if they're added). At the sale prices, it would only cost me $59 before taxes. That's $120 in savings to me. That's 4 modules for the price of one xbox game. That's significant AND supports ED as we all want to do. There in lies the issue. Many of us were under the assumption that we had the entirety of Sunday to purchase the modules we wanted. There was no official clock that let us know when they were over, and that's why some of us are a little bumbed.
